Finally getting round to logging a few caches naughtybunny and I had done on New Year's Day. Today was a beaut day for exploring the Goolwa / Hindmarsh Island area. Ended up getting about 25 for the day. This was another on the island where the mozzies have just taken over! The cache was found quickly as there weren't too many hiding spots. TNLN. Cheers.

I finally have time to catch up with my logging from a NYD trip to Goolwa and Hindmarsh Island. We managed to avoid most of the Muggles, the weather was great, but I needed to bathe in insect repellent because the mozzies were bigger than me and very friendly.TFTC mogni, apologies for the late log.

Geez the roads all over the island are in really good condition, even this one that doesnt take us too much further than here, or is it just our roads are so bad at the moment haha.
We came over to cache the island as it definitely beat going anywhere near shops or centres of towns, people go crazy at Christmas time. There was water in the pool near the side of the road but even with plenty of rain there wasnt much of a wetland to be seen unfortunately. There was lots of duckweed on the water but we couldnt see any fish or frogs.
Thanks mogni for keeping the cache gooing and mundoo for placing it. TNLNSL

A nice detour out to this cache, I even continued all the way to the end but nothing but houses with farms out here.
Cache is all good

Today after doing some family stuff together I had a few hours spare to go caching around the local area. So set off and found roughly 20 caches.

Thanks for the cache

Found at 16:32 by Olga.
We had been to the Goolwa market, the a less than successful cockle collecting expedition. Most of the cockles were undersized, but we managed to get enough legal ones for a meal.
We decided a few caches would make up for this. This cache was second on the list, and was found quickly.

Dry today, but only just

After collecting what we thought were all the caches on Hindmarsh island last year, we noticed we missed this one! Alas, we were back in the area for holidays again, so couldn’t resist picking this one up. Tftc Smile

The wetlands are wet, but the weather today was dry and windy. We saw pelicans, straw ibises (not bin chickens) and ducks. Its a pity that we are not able to go to see and walk across the other barrage, it would bring more tourism to the island.
I did see a tour sign further along about a water cruise which looked interesting, might have to follow that up sometime. I wonder if they'd drop me off to find caches along the coorong?

28-Dec-20
Found on a trip down south.

It has now got to the stage where we have over 750 draft logs waiting to be completed. These range back over at least a couple of years.

We are not a fan of generic logs but with everything that has been on our plates recently we reluctantly have to admit this may be the only way we can get this back log cleared. If your cache is in our backlog it usually means it is one that we wanted to spend more time creating a much more bespoke log than this. But we are not managing to achieve that goal. So in the interests of getting the backlog cleared we have decided to resort to this long form of TFTC as a way of getting a large number of them cleared.

We apologise for the lack of commentary specific to your cache or event. We are somewhat targeted in what we go after. There are unfounded caches within a few kilometres of our home which we published before we started 8 years ago. We have just never got around to o looking for them. We like unusual cache types, puzzles in particular, older caches, and tend to target a much more wider group of caches when we travel. We like remote caches and caches that bring us to an interesting place. It is likely that this cache found its way into our find list because it fits one of these criteria.

As cache owners we appreciate the effort that goes into hiding and maintains caches so thank you for that.

With weather forecast to be a nice warm day, jesswrigley and I decided to head down Goolwa for a few adventures. After completing parkrun in a new location and a nice breakfast, we decided to experience taking the jeep on the sand along the beach towards the Murray Mouth. It sure turned out to be busy, but pretty fun. We stopped off for a few geocaches along the way, before heading back, and then visiting Hindmarsh Island. I hadn't been here for 20 years, with coming to Narnu Farm back in my school days as part of a camp. We managed to clear that island of its current geocaches, and then the final part of the day was heading around to Clayton Bay and Point Sturt to see more of Lake Alexandrina and its picturesque settings.

This was one of the geocaches we did early on Hindmarsh Island, as it was the most furthest away from the bridge. A nice wetlands area, and I had not even heard about the the nearby Lawari Conservation Park. Why aren't there more geocaches in this park area to encourage more visitors? The cache container and logbook were in good shape. Thanks mundoo for the cache placement, and mogni for its ongoing maintenance.

Off on a road trip to the Silo Art tour Vic, Mildura, Goolwa SA, Maitland SA and then home via Murray Bridge, Naracoorte, and the Grampians, picking up some caches along the way as we see the sights. We are now staying in Goolwa and today we went over to Hindmarsh Island. As our GPS went on strike and despite all our efforts it wasn't going to work so we were out to see if we could make any finds without its help. We did have a navigator in the car which gave us an approximate area to search. As we had seen similar hides it was Mr Pooky who again made a relatively easy find. TFTC and bringing us to this spot. There was water in the wetlands today.

Nomads travelling in their caravan around Australia. We have been on the road since July 2011 and discovered caching in August 2013. We travel with a bunch of travel bugs belonging to our sons and grand children. Where ever possible, we will maintain your cache as we travel.

After our house sit in Willunga, we are on the road again, filling in time before we go to Kangaroo Island on 1 Nov. Caravan at Hindmarsh Island, so today, we concentrated on all the caches there.

Water here in the wetlands at the moment, but you have answered a question we have often asked regarding those twirly things on the overhead wires. Thanks Mundoo adopted by mogni

Both primary members Bri and Sal headed out for an afternoon of exploring Hindmarsh Island and finding a few caches of course. Razz We called in at the Goolwa Bakery for some lunch goodies which we took with us and consumed at Sugars Beach overlooking the Murray Mouth. Big Grin Again time ran out before clearing the entire island but only now two left to look for and of course the inevitable DNF to rectify! [B)]

There are certainly plenty of water birds now in the wetlands. On the way to the cache we saw a flock of Cape Barren Geese in the paddock next to the road. [^] One the way back we had to stop and give way to about a dozen crossing the road. SurprisedRazz Arriving at GZ I was moving a little trepidaciously. I could see the rocks...just as the grass was about half a metre high and very spongy to walk on. [8)] I kept a wary eye for sticks that suddenly started wriggling and made it to the rocks, carefully parting the grass to get to the cache. Smile Something moved in the grass nearby but I couldn't see what. SurprisedSurprisedSurprised A quick sign and out of there.

**Thanks mundoo for this cache. ** Big Grin

Doctor Owl asked me if I would like to join her and sushilord for a day of caching and of course I said yes. [^] After some discussion it was decided that we would target some puzzle caches near Goolwa and meander our way there stopping to find caches that we passed (or detoured to!) Wink A fun day was had by all, lots of caches found, laughter and frivolity, and our target met...what better way to spend a day. Cool

We had finished with our target caches so it was now into Goolwa to try and get all those we hadn't found previously. [^]

Didn't get to this one last time I was over here, so I was glad we came to get this one. [^] It took a while to find hidden amongst the lush green grass, but Owl was on it and made the find. Big Grin

Thanks for the cache mundoo. Smile

Took a little while to find the right rocks, due to an abundance of grass at the moment, but the cache was eventually located. The area has been farmed extensively, but there are still pleasant little spots like this.
