We are leaving Waimate to further explore on our Sth island tour by caravan. Im just out on a last bike ride checking out yet another trail.Dumped the bike in the bush back up at the junction and walked to this spot. Looked around for ages - almost gave up and then just one more look under a rock all dry here - cache and waterfall.TFTC
Go often and check cache box. Decided Brady bear had been dormant long enough so picked him up to send him on his travels
Timed arrival for lunchtime to give me time for a long search. Went all over as far as I could safely but no luck. No water either.
That was a bit of an adventure. Lucky I slowed down as there was someone on the track when I came around the last corner. And then under bush cover, it was very hard to get a lock. Sometimes 20m, sometimes 10m. Rarely much less. Eventually resorted to looking in obvious places, and luckily as I looked up, there it was just above me. If you're desperate [Gbjneq jngresnyy sebz fjvgpuonpx] But unfortunately there was no waterfall today. Thanks.
What an awesome place to be today just the sounds of nature and not much else enjoyed the walk from the carpark to grab this one as it is the last one on this track for me not much water falling today a true bitsprayer cache in perfect condition TFTC dropped TB
Very tricky - enlisted some assistance and in doing so may have converted three newbies into the world of geocaching!!! TFTC!
I managed to get the railway cache the other day after work, so I was back down in the waimate area with more assessments, so I fancied a bit of hill running, but I did not think it was going to be that bad (or im just unfit). Had a gentle descent thinking that if I got a DNF I would really not be happy. As I was there, a good root around and around found the cache around 15 mtrs from where the GPS was saying I should find it. Poor GPS signal but i could not believe it when i saw phone signal! Weird. Phew! The cache logged and put back.all good and dry with it. Cheers
I still can't believe I dragged Mum up here in her late 70s. Insane! Glad to get the find. GPS not too reliable here. Go with instinct. Bingo! Tftc
Now this was a fascinating place to get to - a few trees which survived the 1878 fires? Nice to be in the cool of the bush on a hot afternoon. GPS not much use here so the three of us searched different parts of the valley until we ended up in the logical spot. A non-waterfall today but would be a nice cascade after rain.
I'm still in Waimate picking up a few more caches. Today is a time for some hikes. After meeting up with Team Daywalk at the previous cache it was decided that we would combine forces to attack the caches down the hill from this one to my cachemobile which was left at the carpark at SH82. It was not so much a waterfall than a waterdrip due to the extreme lack of water.
Cheers for the cache.
Cheers for the cache.
Waterfall nice. Was looking forward to a swim but no luck. Great spot. Easy!
the last time I planned on attempting this series it was wet and horrible ( so I postponed), guess what ?it was pretty much the same today but I was determined to get it done
this one was a mission for me there are a lot of "rocks " to look under when your looking in the wrong place , phone was a bit vague for the search and typically the Gps died on me before I could find it .
I spent the most time I have ever looking for a cache on this one so I didn't have to come back, after near 1/2 an hour the gps came back to life and finally had me on the right track TGFT got the bonus number for this one and a fav from me for the frustration value

It was a longer walk than anticipated but you get to the point of no return, and it becomes a wasted effort turning back! The bush and birdsong around the waterfall were the highlights. A huia feather pin was left. Nothing taken.
The afore-mentioned "stroll" turned into a full-on hike with this one! After completing the other side of this track 5 months ago today with a pregnant Mrs Rex (who went on to give birth 8 days later ), we ventured back with Mr and Mrs Paws enough to clean up the other end. It was wonderful to have Mrs and Baby Rex accompanying us, although they had to sit this one out due to steepness. A beautiful sight greeted us, and after a short scramble, the find was made, and the ascent continued. As always, cheers Robert!
As it was such a nice afternoon we thought we'd do the walk, not realising it was so steep in places. Gammy knees don't like hills! Logging as part of Rambler's Reward. TFTC
A large section of the track up the hill from the embankment has been obliterated by a slip, but not a problem, and still consistent with the terrain rating. Then down to the waterfall, not spectacular today, but a bit of water in it, and a quick easy find in the first place we looked, then back up to the top. TFTC
Strolled up to this one after doing the Railway embankment one.
Great location, but very little water when I visited.

Found it whilst completing the series, and trying to get it done before the weather arrived! Cheers Gav [10018]
Drove to near the uphill track started and then commenced the 'puff and gasp' to the saddle. What? The cache is just 59m away! That means it is down there! Oh well, there's nothing for it if I want to get that bonus cache. Got to GZ and I got the deja vu feeling of "Little Erratic". After searching under almost every hint object within 12m I gave up on my dream of ever finding the Waimate Bonus. As I scrambled my way back up I saw something that attracted my attention. Investigation revealed the cache 15m North of GZ! Yea, the Waimate Bonus Dream is back on. Quail cache, here I come.
The waterfall was running well today, quite spetacular. Well worth the trek in
Thanks

We did all of the caches in this series today and did the circuit in three hours. Thank you to my grandparents for coming with us on this cache hunt.
The waterfall was only a wee trickle today, even after an hour or so of steady rain. Not very good signal, but the spot was fairly obvious. Would like to visit this after some heavy rain, it would be amazing. TFTC

Needs rain! no water at all today but I'm sure it would be a pretty little waterfall with a bit of flow in it.
GPSr had trouble but checked the oibvious places and it didn't take long.
Great wee morning walk, TFTC

Expended quite some energy reaching this point. Pity little water to make a waterfall today. Great walk. TFTC
Two down! Had to wipe the sweat out of the eyes long enough to spot the obvious. Nice spot this one.
The GPS was not very useful at this spot but I saw an obvious hiding place using the clue so no probs. Must be the best spot to visit in this series. TY.
What a wonderful walk, lots of Quail, GPS still giving false readings but the clue was very helpful. -TB +keyring. TFTC
