Needed an Earth cache for the latest souvenir from HQ, so selected this as I was looking after junior cacher today.Parked nearby and unloaded Junior in his chair and made our way down the path to GZ.The wind was howeling today, but the sun was out which kept junior warm. Thanks for setting this up, and educating us on the area.TFTC.
An evening stroll to collect one of my favorite types - an earth cache. Having cleaned out all the ones near home, Auckland is a fertile hunting ground. Finer ignimbrites than the coarse ones in the Kaimais. TFTEC.
Day 20: To Howick and through the Rotary WalkTodays journey took us to the East of Auckland where we spent a little bit of time exploring Howick before I embarked on a long walk from Pigeon Mountain to Panmure via the Rotary Walkway. It was a beautiful walk along the Tamaki River which I really enjoyed. Thanks for all the caches in the area, these will be some of my last caches on this trip to NZ!(End of the cut and paste bit)This is the specific log for this cache: Its always interesting to see the effects of Aucklands many volcanoes all across the region, and this was no different. The sign here was most helpful in explaining what this was and the geology of the region - so thanks for setting this EC up. Photo is attached, and answers will be sent soon. TFTEC!
Visiting family in Auckland from the UK. Out for a walk and found myself near this EC, would have been rude not to gather the info, to send to the CO! Enjoying seeing NZ birds along the path, and checking out some volcanic rocks, very different to those I see close to home. Thanks for setting this EC.
We came along to this earlier this year when we did the AdLab but for some reason I forgot to take a photo and log it. This afternoon just before it poured down we came back and managed a quick walk and a picture of the geohound.
Happy Easter
What a great wee walk around the water front
Weather is fine so far
Thanks for the Earthcache

On a day trip up from the Waikato with ABCDF4 and eyespyben walking around this waterfront grabbing caches as we went. Enjoying the walk and the views. Information gathered and answers sent on behalf of all 3 of us. Thank you for setting this up.
M24: today was a dot day, deciding to get caches closer to where we live, one a day on the dot days, makes it easier. This one, like the Ash and Peat, I ignored back last July, and now finally getting this one done.
Easy simple questions and a photo to go with it. TFTC.

It was one very windy day in This area today.I was out collecting ad labs along with a few other caches in the area…some interesting rock formations along with striped colour segments ..I enjoyed the area many thanks
In the area doing ad labs, thought we would do this at the same time. Answers sent.
Answers sent. Another one we in conjunction with the Ad lab. Great day to be out.
A nice quick find. I had to shelter for a while till the shower stopped. Thanks.
I'm in Auckland to house sit while my mother is overseas visting family. Today started out a blue sky day. I should have got out a bit earlier as it was wet and windy later in the day.
Thanks to all CO's for publishing and maintaining their caches. Cheers.

Second Earthcache for the day! Supernannny and I were passing by so I really wanted to stop for this one. Once again it was pretty straightforward but I did spend some time checking out the cool rock while I was here. I've sent my answers and here's a picture. Thank you very much for setting it up!
This display showed alot of information regarding ignimbrite. Unfortunately I was unable to complete the geocache due to time constraints but I was able to check it out.
Had a great walk from pigeon mountain along the walkway. Found the earthcaches very illuminating. Tftc
I enjoyed my walk along the Rotary path today. Found a few caches and got my step count up as well. Have sent in my answers. TFTC
I've wanted to take the assistant for a ride along the rotary walkway for ages and with the weather looking good, today was the day.
We attempted to find some traditionals, but our run of DNFs continues, so why not learn something by doing the earthcaches whilst we were out and about.
Sadly, the assistant is a little young to understand pyroclastic flow, but we had a lovely ride by the Tamaki.

The main target for coming down here onto this walkway and a good example of the Erath science lesson, as well as a descriptive info board. Answers have been sent to the CO and will post pics soon. T F T E C Kiwileon
A day trip out East Coast way was the plan for today, and a nice day for it too. We started the day with an Adventure Lab series out Howick way, headed to Musick Point for a visit to the foreshore and surrounds and back via the Rotary walkway around Farm Cove out Pakuranga way. The weather was glorious and we managed over 10kms of small and medium walks, but mostly flat and well formed.

Out on a lovely sunny afternoon exploring this trail on an Onzo bike I found earlier. An interesting earthcache, and a great place to take a short break, cheers
First proper family bike ride where 4 out of 5 of us were on bikes! Great pathway for it too. With both Mr and Mrs 3pearnuts having geology degrees this cache was just perfect for us - not so our poor long suffering geokids TFTC
**This was 1 of 19 caches that was found by me on the 18th of 19 days in New Zealand.**
**Which also was the 71st of 75 days that my travels thru southeast Asia and Oceania would last.**
Besides being an interesting location geological this appears to be an good fishing spot. At least must the man I saw standing at the shore with an fishing rod think that.
The answers did I send via Message center on December 17th.
*During 19 days I traveled from Christchurch to Auckland in an SUV, that i also slept in during most of the nights. 5.956 km of driving did it take to visit the 351 caches that I have marked as found in c:geo.*
*Earthcaches was my main focus during the stay. And I manage to visit 106 of them. So New Zealand is right now the only country where earthcaches are my most found cache type .*

Had nice walk in the area on early Saturday evening. Thanks for Earth Cache here! Answers sent to CO.
Did this earthcache today for International Earthcache Day today and have sent my answers (hopefully correct) to the CO. We didn't have too much time for geocaching today as Albert the Geohound is going to the Pet Expo to talk people into adopting greyhounds (he won't be doing much talking).
Got to GZ and quickly found the information required to send the answers to the CO and spent a bit of time having a look at the formation - nice colour and impressive for where it has come from.
After finishing the earthcache we wandered along a bit further and collected two traditionals.
Thanks for the interesting earthcache - we were grateful to have one that was easy to collect.

I'm up in Auckland for one of my regular visits, and with having the next week off work I am looking to break my longest streak for finds as well as push through and gain my 500th Cache whilst I'm here.
Today is day 7 of my current streak. The weather this afternoon was absolutely perfect for a walk so my better half and I decided to talk a stroll along the Rotary Walkway, as we do as often as we can. I suggested doing a section that we don't walk so often, as I hadn't managed to get around to grabbing a few of the caches available along that section, and i really wanted to get this particular Earthcache as the title will help me with a cache I'm trying to get through Project GC.
Having parked up near the boat club, we started walking towards this cache and there were a couple of families also walking in the same direction, so I was wondering how easy it would be to gain the information without attracting muggle attention. But luckily for me they soon cleared off allowing me to take my time at GZ reading the appropriate sign. Having my better half there meant at least I didn't have to struggle to take a the photo! I have sent you my answers, and I hope you don't object to me already logging this as a find.
Thank you for creating this cache for others such as me to learn from.

First earthcache, such fun! Oops, sorry, had Miranda on my mind, thinking what she might do with the word Ig...Nim...Brite. Being an idiot, are we? IgNimBrite, are we? Bear with, bear with. Such fun! What I call .... IgNimBrite.

Came along to this earth cache with garball, convinced I took a photo also bit clearly did not save it, thankfully I am in the photo that garball posted. Thanks for bringing us here KiwiLeon.
In the short period of time before WildTulip needed to go to work we took a walk along the waterfront and stopped at this earthcache. The weather has been atrocious overnight and so far this morning but luck is with us as it had stopped by the time we got here. Have emailed CO the answers to the questions and attaching my photo of my sister and I. Thanks for bringing us here KiwiLeon - had planned originally to visit the other earthcache on this walkway but we ran out of time. We will be back because it's a great walk with lovely views.
Headed out with Bennett24 today for international earth cache day. This was a great cache in my opinion because I LOVE geology. Sent the answers to the owner and photo attached.

Out with Tinytree today to grab an earth cache; as this one is on geology Tinytree was keen to come along as it has always been one of her favourite subjects. It was very windy today especially around GZ but all info collected okay and sent to CO who has given permission to log. Photo attached. TFTC.
As I had been working most of the day in front of my computer, I decided this afternoon to get out and get a bit of fresh air. And as it is also a weekend in which earth caches take centre stage, it made good sense to try and focus on this one... and also the other one near by. So with my lovely wife and the real canine Sherlock the Puppy in tow we parked and strolled along this Rotary Walkway until we got to GZ. Learning the facts associated with this earth cache reminds one of how massive those early eruptions were. I have emailed you a copy of my answers. So thank you KiwiLeon for taking the time to set up this earth cache and your other one near by. As always... much appreciated. A favourite point from me. TFTEC
We headed out today to grab an earth cache to earn an earth cache souvenir. Very nice cache, very interesting facts, thanks for bringing us here.
We sent the answers to the owner, the photo is attached.

Interesting info here. Never would have stopped to read it were it not for the cache. Was a lovely day as well. Here's hayleyfcy and myself...
Beautiful day today! Really enjoyed coming out here with michaelteacher. Thanks for taking us here. It was interesting reading up about the geology of this area. Tftc
Lovely winters afternoon for a wander around part of the Rotary Walkway. GZ was busy with several persons fishing from the walkway. Interesting place to stop. Thanks for bringing us here. Next time we will be back with our bikes and scooters. TFTEarthcache
Enjoying an early morning albeit foggy morning walk along here. Answers have been emailed to CO
Out with SethRaven, what_fibble, Panda0505 plus a few more today inspired by a Tufty challenge and needed an earth cache. Thank you for bringing us to such a lovely spot that was fabulous on a sunny day, as well as teaching us something of the geological history of the area. Picture of myself and what_fibble, with Panda0505 deserting us for the most interesting tree to climb. Answers emailed to CO.TFTC
Another interesting earthcache on the Rotary Path. Quite surprising the difference in the thickness of the ignimbrite between this location and not too far away. TFTC
Visited the Rotary Walkway for the first time, and collected some caches while at it. Nice location. If I had not done this EC, I would've walked straight past it all, thinking it was just another map. Interesting information. I learnt something new today! TFTC
Found and grabbed the answers while in the area collecting a few recent caches. It was a bit blustery at GZ today, which meant less muggles! Nice area which would be great for biking, maybe later in summer though! Have submitted answers to the CO and am logging in anticipation that the answers are satisfactory TFTEC!
Day seven of my New Zealand geocaching adventure!
Aiming for Earthcaches and odd types&sizes, avoiding traditionals.
A pleasant short walk here, had a look at the layers and the views. It was a day on unpredicatable weather but here it was good.
Thanks for your Earthcache

Today on the holiday visits him the Rotary Walkway! Besides, the Earthcaches relaxedly or exhaustedly! Many new infos! The best thanks for working out!
I'm sure I would have walked past this without seeing it if not for this earthcache. Thanks
I'm working over in Howick at the moment, work takes me everywhere and I cache there when I start a new house. So, I came by here after having a short day at work and had a nice wander along the path to GZ. How fascinating are these rocks! Without caching, it would be so easy to just pass these by and not ever notice the significance. Thanks for bringing me here, a very interesting spot.
With my daughter at hockey practice I had some time to kill and a couple earthcaches seemed like the perfect way. I stopped by this one after taking the short walk and taking some time to admire the really great views across the basin...TFTC! #1109
Having a smattering of geological knowledge and as a kiwi, an interest in vulcanology I enjoyed your description of this and the nearby cache. It will be of significant interest to the many visitors to this site. Great cache keep up the good work
Had a great time in this beautiful area today. Easily got the info needed as well as a photo.
Thanks to KiwiLeon for a very well set up EC.

Took advantage of a still day to do our first earth cache.
While I did the work geodog greeted everyone on their way past.

Up in Auckland staying with my grandparents and what do you know there is an earthcache right outside! Right where I used to play as a kid! Popped down when my grandparents when out to quickly grab the answers and have emailed them to the CO. I have lots of fond memories playing up and in this chuck of rock and around the trees here. Cool that it is a cache. Thanks for the earthcache. Will be here for a couple of weeks so will take a walk down the path another day to find some more caches and bring back some more memories
Right on time for sunset I went along this beautiful walkway to visit the two EarthCaches along the way. A beautiful and somwhow convenient place to solve this EarthCache and a spectacular sunset happening right opposite over the hill. Very nice end of a long day of senseless driving and car-issues.
Thanks again for the quick log permission and for setting up this nice EarthCache!

Day one of a three day trip to Auckland for some geocaching and general exploring. A very hot day for a walk around the water. Info quickly gathered and onto the next one. TFTC (2800)
Answers messaged to CO. Nice walkway & enjoyed the nearby Ignimbrite & learning about it.
#1636. I need to find quite a few earthcaches to complete yet another challenge. So was targeting a few while up visiting relatives in the Auckland area. This one was on a pleasant walkway around the Tamaki Inlet. Found the display board and looked at the exposed rocks nearby. The GZ today was crawling with fisherman who were lined up at the point as the high tide surged in. One even caught a small fish while I was there. I would have thrown it back in but they duly filleted it. Must be desperately hungry folk up in these eastern suburbs. The earthcache was quickly assessed and the info sent to the CO. Thanks for setting it up. Cheers GSEL
Found while exploring the area. Thank you for setting this cache I like learning new stuff. Logged with COs OK. I did take a photo on the phone which I will upload when I finally get my PC to talk to it. TFTC
Also visited this EC this drizzly morning to help get my EarthCache numbers for the GIO licence challenge I am doing. Answers have been emailed and will post a foto tonite. TFTEC
Being Geocaching Earthcache day I needed to find one I had not yet completed and this one fit the bill being relatively close by.
It was really really windy along the walkway. Cragger and Laval had their scooters but on the way to GZ we were walking into the wind so it was quite hard going. Nevertheless got there in one piece and soon found the required information and had a peek around.
Back along the walkway and off to get our errands completed.
Thanks for bringing us to this spot and showing us something new.

Had heaps of fun on our scooters on the way to this cache. It was really really windy. I helped to read the board to find the answers. It was lots of fun. Thanks
So much fun riding to this one. Last time we did the other one here a bird kept hitting my helmet but this time it was ok.
Thanks.
Thanks.
Found while out for a Sunday morning walk with Mrs McMike2012 on a beautiful Spring day ... we have never been down here before, so knowing there were a couple of caches nearby, we decided to try our luck ... bad news for the traditional ones ... didn't even attempt any of them as there were just way too many 'muggles' around ... we'll have to bring our bikes out at some later date, just as well the Earthcaches were easy enough to do. Answers have been emailed & we are logging in anticipation of receiving the all clear. TN except photos:LN, not even footprints:SL, not even ... TFTC ... #1,034 for us.
There were a couple of guys fishing right next to GZ, with their bicycles right next to the info sign, but they carried on about their business while I gathered the answers & photos required to claim this cache. Such a beautiful walkway - I will be sure to visit here again.
Found while out cycling this trail. Was a nice afternoon for cycling and we enjoyed this trail and the earth caches thrown in.
We have been meaning to do this one for a while. Took a walk/scooter along here today and enjoyed the sunshine and views. Will send in email once I have photos downloaded from my phone.
Gorgeous views from this cache location today. Logging in anticipation of the CO accepting the answers we have e-mailed through, and that we got the answers correct. Answers found with darthcacher1, purply and newlynfam
Came out here with HeMaLuDy and their junior cachers to claim this earthcache today, as we both needed one for our Geo Roadtrip souvenir. We had been doing a bit of caching with a group previously, so this seemed to be a perfect opportunity.
I love this walkway, and used to walk along here on a regular basis (really need to get back to doing that), so I have spotted this before and read the information, all pre-geocaching though. Nice to come back today!
Logging in anticipation- answers emailed to CO.

Been meaning to do this one for quite a while now as it is the closest Earthcache to home. So when the opportunity arose to do an Earthcache for the Geocaching Road Trip came along, this was the natural choice.
After we had got back into the car, we spotted a bunch of like minded geocachers (NewlynFam and HeMaLuDy) heading off to get the same cache.

TFTC. When you look at the depth of the ash it seems incredible how much material must have been displaced from such a long way off.
Out for a bike ride with the kids and stopped off at this Earthcache as it was close. Nice bit of geological history in the area! I've emailed the cache owner with the answers. TFTC!
While we were in the area we thought we might as well grab the other earth cache since it was so near
A nice walk from where I had parked the car. Always learn something new with an earth cache. TFTC.

My father has recently shifted to a retirement village in this area, so when I visited him earlier today, I naturally had to see what caches were available in the area and this turned up. As Earth Caches are few and far between in Blenheim, where I come from, I couldn't help but be swayed by the lure of this one.
The navigation function on c:geo took me to a cul-de-sac approximately 200m away from GZ and a short walk took me past one fisherman (who had a snapper) to another less successful fisherman at GZ. The information was obtained and the images were taken and later on in the evening when back in Blenheim the information was sent to the CO.
The concept of Earth Caches appeals to me and this is the second one I've done today (Mortimer's Rift being the first), and being in Auckland it is only natural that they are based on volcanic activity. I was surprised though about where the origins of this feature were, thinking it would be a lot closer. After viewing these Earth Caches and visiting the Volcanic display at the Auckland War Memorial Museum yesterday, I'm glad I no longer live in Auckland... hang on, I live in Marlborough which has a couple of major fault lines going right through it... the term 'out of the frying pan and into the fire' comes to mind.

Visiting Auckland on a 4 week Rotary vocational exchange. Just moved to my last home hospitality family who lives within walking distance of this cache. Thanks Rotary and all the Kiwi's who took such good care of all of us on while we've been in New Zealand.
We had a really nice walk up the Rotary Walkway in the morning.
Thanks a lot for the cache and the tasks that were not too difficult to fullfill.
