Unfortunately for us it was not a smiley today. We had the hint location but could not find it. Will see what others think or the CO

Cache was full of water and everything was floating, pushing the lid upwards! Drained it, signed the waterproof logsheet. A possum walking nearby, and it's 11am! I wonder if there's been poison here?

Caught up today with Alpenmilch80 and we are trying to get as many kms in before easter so looking for all the nearby walks that we haven't done that fit our spare few hours. This loop fitted the bill nicely and it was a great afternoon for a stroll in the bush.

Met a hunter here so had to have a break while we waited for the coast to be clear. Soon found the cache very exposed and wet. Had a spare waterproof log so signed that and put that in the cache to keep it going for a bit longer. Hid back where it was supposed to be. Thanks for the hide.

21-Jan-22
Needs help as everything wet, unfortunately we didn't have stuff to repair

25-Oct-21
A large cache and so obvious when we spotted it lol. Tftc

24-Oct-21
Found it. Another day tramp this time on a mission to get a few geo’s.
Thanks

11-Oct-21
Found this one just before heading down the west branch of Hendersons tramline. Cache was verrrry damp and waterlogged. Invis13 had some spare waterproof paper on hand so we signed and placed a new log as the existing one was too damp. Cool lil hide

11-Oct-21
Went far to wide on the initial search sweep but eventually narrowed it down. Simple but effective hide. Rowdogg and I decided to add some paper as the cache contents was pretty wet on this one. The last leg of the north south was starting to get pretty muddy.

26-Jun-21
Container filled with water, replacement plasticky log paper good though

05-Oct-20
Knocking off some caches doing the loop and to the hut. Dot came up with the find. Cache not in the best of conditions. No way you could sign the log. So I took a pic. Tftc

01-Dec-19
Beautiful walk through the kaimai ranges. This one was quite out in the open, tried to hide it a little better. Thanks for the cache

Had a great walk along this track with SB20 as a practise for a great walk later on in the month. Really enjoyed the Kaimais this way and hope to do some walks up there. Tftc...a little bit wet inside but the logroll was ok.

Boy what a disorganised group we are. I had suggested a couple of days prior that we do this walk but nobody seemed keen due to the weather. I had rang Bruce when I was at Lake Okaro to see what he was up to and he tells me that they were at Tauriko and heading to the Kaimai's. So it was a mad dash back to home to get some gear and meet up. So myself, Squirrel Nutcase, Davidson Clan and Phillip Perry made up the group.
I had suggested another entry point but got vetoed on this. Anyway good uphill climb at first then we arrived at GZ. Container half full of water so drained and found dry log sheet.
Could do with TLC. SLTFTC

Sometimes the best adventures are the ones you don't plan for... We'd definitely discussed these caches but were yet to set anything in stone. That was until Davidson clan (who we all thought was in the Central Plateau) suddenly appeared - keen to get this underway. As if by magic we were now together at the top of the Kaimai's - parked just off SH29.

I've had my heart set on accessing the caches via this route for a long time now. There's a short but steep section about 40mins in and then it's all easy-pezee from there - except for the slippery roots, cutting grass, bush lawyer, gorse, and my favourite.... the [hook grass](http://www.terrain.net.nz/friends-of-te-henui-group/plants-grasses-sedges-rushes-nz-natives/hook-grass.html). Pretty much par for the course though when you're hiking through the Kaimai's.

Finally made it here to our first stop and while the cache was found quickly with good coords and hint - it wasn't in the best condition. We got our names on the log and then it was time to continue. Cheers twigster, TFTC Smile

With Gap (of Fap and Gap), (Mr) Davidson clan, and Philip.Perry... Today’s expedition reeked of unplanned-ness... Someone stated that they were heading down (up) the North South track, and if we were interested in going... So here we are...

It rained overnight and fog hung low over the forest. We set off from the Highway 29 entrance, taking our time to adjust to the conditions. The track was well marked and in a good state - slightly greasy with rain but quite manageable.

Our first test occurred about 40 minutes in... The track ascended steadily among exposed tree roots and rock. This turned out to be the steepest section on the track. So we were quite pleased to have this behind us...

After what felt like ages, we arrived at Kaimai Crossroads. This was not the stroll in the park that we had anticipated... The cache was in not so good shape, and full of water. Luckily, there was a waterproof logbook - which was difficult to write on...

Well, we have our first cache bagged for the day, and definitely a good one to claim. This one has been on the ‘To Do’ list for far too long... TFTC.

ApacheD and myself came in for and over night adventure camping at Hurunui hut. We had just emptied the cache of water and signed the replacement log as log book is drenched put cache back when three hunters and their dog appeared. Had a chat with the hunters and then carried on up the north south track to the Junction cache. Tftc

Well, I went down to the Crossroads but, unlike Robert Johnson, I didn't sell my soul. Instead I found a cache. Co-ordinates spot on. Logbook mush. Waterproof replacement added. TFTC.

28-Dec-16
I've been wanting to do the series of caches around Hurunui Hut for a while now, and they had just started to annoy me. Decided last minute to head up there this afternoon to try and turn them into smilies. Parked up at the top of the Kaimais and headed along the ridge track leaving about 12.45pm and headed straight for the hut as I would grab the ones I past on the way back. I was really impressed with the quality of the track, with big sections of it nice and flat. Got to the hut in 1 hour 40 mins, with the return trip taking a little longer. All up the trip took pretty much on 4 hours.

Finally got the message and trusted the GPS for this one, before reading the clue. Cache found nicely tucked away as suggested, however the cache is in need of a bit of TLC. Everything is soaked including the logbook, so much so I couldn't get my name on it. Took a photo instead. Thanks for the placement.

20-Nov-16
Stopped at this spot for morning and afternoon tea, in between we did a bit of hard off track work, the first hard tramp I had had in ages. Sadly the cache is damp and really needs a bit of care.

18-Oct-16
Nice walk, directly from the old kaimai road. I was surprised to see a big tent up in a clearing about half way. It took about an hour to gz. I got muggled!!! Three ladies out for a walk appeared just after i signed the sodden logbook. Sorry i didn't carry a replacement log, hopefully the next person to find it will have a spare.

After this i headed straight back to my car as i didn't have a lot of time and am unfamiliar with these tracks.

The stream was handy to wash my legs and shoes a bit, and geo-dogs muddy legs Smile

Thanks for getting me out here, i enjoyed it! Tftc

A lovely camber up from State Highway! A nice quick find. Cache is pretty wet. TFTC

1931 After a cold night at the Hurunui Hut followed by a warm walk up to get Te Weraiti Trig and Kaimai King this was a resting spot and refuel. Log is very wet and needs drying out or replacing. Signed the paper left by previous finder.

10-Jul-16
We headed up old kaimai road to look for a new cache. We weren't sure where to go in but knew the waterfall cache was near the Carpark we parked at. River was too full to get that cache so headed up the track to the new one. We soon realised that we were getting further away from it. But luckily closer to this cache. Time was an issue and we decided to turn back in fifteen minutes. Luckily we arrived at the crossroads before curfew!. Cache was soon in hand. Everything was saturated and log impossible to sign. I had a bit a paper so signed that but it will soon be sodden as well. Thanks heaps for this placement and saving us from a dnf.

09-Jul-16
Found it after a good trek in from old Kaimai Rd ...waterfall car park end ...the wet weather we have just had did us no favours and the track was very soggie in many places making it exciting and slippery. The GPS beeped right on the spot and I soon had the cache in hand and the natural camo was working well....sadly the the rain and weather have been cruel to the cache .....the container was half full of water and all the contents extremely sodden tried hard to sign the log book to no avail so added a paper log as that's all I had but this will not last long. A bit of maintence will quickly put this cache back into pristine condition as this junction is well worthy of a cache thanks for this great little cache and it would be ashame to let it deterior to much more

15-Feb-15
Found after an enjoyable hike in from SH29 at the summit. Just over an hour in and same again out.

The cache was sitting out in the open on the track and is a sorry wet mess. See the attached picture taken as we arrived Sad Everything in it is saturated and beyond salvage.

Found its actual hiding place and put back, but really needs attention.

Easy find once the GPS settled, it swung around a bit, should have read the description! Smile Very wet though, most items soaked through. Thanks for the cache

combined a early morning deer hunt and finding this cache. No deer today but the cache added some excitment to the morning. Easy find.Container had a fair amount of water inside and log was damp but still managed to sign the log.

Came up here from the carpark, when I planned this there wasn't meant to be any rain, so much for that Idea. Great walk in even thou the weather was lousy and appreciated the moments of dryness but not so much the rain that always seemed to follow.

Cache in excellent condition and then made my way back to the car, being very careful on the very very slippery track

18-Dec-13
Am slowly picking up the Kaimai caches, and even though this one hadn't been found for over a year, I was pretty confident that it would still be there. Combined with an afternoon hunting trip from the summit carpark, it took 50 minutes to get to the crossroads. We met 2 runners and 1 tramper along the way. The cache was well hidden and the log in great condition despite the quarter of a cup of water inside which I tipped out. The goodies are not faring so well. Went for a small hunt in the immediate area without success, and wandered back home for dinner. TNLN TFTC

Decided it was time to stretch the legs again after a very busy couple of months that has kept us away from the hills. A beautiful walk on a gorgeous spring day: just what was needed! Cache ~ 1/4 full of water (emptied it) but amazingly, logbook completely dry. TFTC

Awesome cache. Found this with Joshtait. Lovely place but it was a pity to see so much rubbish all over the place up there so we became tidy geocachers and cleaned up most of the mess. If your up there, remember leave only footprints and take only pictures.

Mrs Zorgon said she wanted to go on a short bush walk this morning and I remembered this cache had been on the to do list for way too long. Parked up at the Kaimai summit entrance and noted that the sign said 1 hour 30 min to the track intersection which is about what it took us today. Rather cold in the strong wind but the bush protected us from the the worst of it.
Many thanks for any enjoyable walk!

We came in and out along the North/South track from the Kaimai summit. It was a bit boggy in places but not too bad and the cache was dry.

Was a bit waterlogged and some of the paper stuff had begun to disintegrate. cleaned it out and re-sealed it. The log book was okay.

16-Jan-11
Was heading over to Tauranga today, so stopped off at the Kaimai summit, filled up the waterbottle and started from that end. Was an easy walk and took just under an hour each way with OmaGosh.
Easy find thanks. The logbook and all other contents were indeed sodden. I've replaced logbook and pencil and put in a zip lock bag inside the container (which still looks fine - someone probably didn't close the top properly at some point).

16-Jan-11
Found with GuanoGerbil. Thanks for the fun. OmaGosh, over and out...

Grabbed this on the YSAR rogaine. Been here last year but didn't know where the cache was. Very depressing! The log is sopping wet and writing my name was VERY hard with a pencil, managed to engrave it into the paper =) TFTC anyway

An afternoon off-road run along the north-south track to find this and the springs cache. Enjoyable run with some slick footwork required if we wanted to keep our feet dry. At GZ compass took us for a trip down another track before sorting itself out and sending us back again! TFTC TNLN

I was supposed to leave this one for mrs Geckoh to find while I ran on to find the kaimai king cache but about one km past this cache the tracklog was going slightly the wrong way so I returned and claimed the find for this one instead, muddy track but otherwise well maintained. We parked at the top of the kaimai's carpark and checked up on our new cache on the way back, TNLN TFTC!

The Freezer Mice strike again!!!
The last scheduled find for the day, and all was going well until the cache had been found... then the sky turned black and the heavens decided to open up!
Mass amounts of rain and hail prompted a pretty quick turnaround and jog back down the track in what ended up being very slippery conditions.
Cache found without too much searching, although did initially overlook its hiding place in favour of a bigger item mentioned in the clue.
Thanks for the re-visit to this spot, the last time that I was up here was actually on the day it was placed.
TNLN, TFTC.

On the hunt with Jumboz, Didnt read the good clue "well" enough!, We spent some time searching for cache!, we looked south of the north south track not south of the end of the West Henderson tram track! (makes sense when you are there!) Jumboz the human K9 sniffed it out tho and we were back at van in around an hour 40 from leaving, Have been part way up this track to find kaimai kids waterfall cache, well worth the stop off on the way up, (unless one attackes this cache from the top Kaimai sumit car park). left Squigly thing Cheers Muzy Man! Big Grin

27-May-09
nice easy walk in with muzzy man -easy find once you sit down and read the clues as well as the doc sign-some great places to camp on the way to gz TNLN

11-May-09
The day of the big storm in the BOP. I was not alone as I had the rain running down my back and thunder for company. After a 40 min search when about 500 metres back up the track or river to ph to get a clue and then it was an easy find. Did a swap. Can the next visitor take a bag to put the log book in TFTC

09-May-09
Bit of a slippery trip this morning, but found OK. Had been up here not so long ago so no surprizes-nice walk. Those with more time could turn right at cache and then right again after approx 40 mins onto a return route rejoining the road 1.5 km down from the bridge start point.
TNLN thanks
