#4221 Today is day 36 of my geocaching vacation in New Zealand. The weather looks nice, and it's warmer as well. Today, my goal is to get a geocache in Gisborne region and make it back before the road closure.Found it! It was a quick find. The cover was missing, but the logs were still intact. This marked my eastern most geocache found as of today. E 178 01.724' Mission accomplished. Now, I just need to make it back to Hastings before the road closure. nzkeko, thank you for the cache! -crystaloops from Taipei, Taiwan on November 5, 2024 @ 17:54:54[GC1R48C] Bridge Pillar (Gisborne) was a D5.0/T2.0 Small Traditional Cache at the time of finding.
Was at the GZ for a long time then my daughter got hh and went to fetch her mother. Mum finds it in about 3 minutes TFTC.
Heading back up to Gisborne for another week of caching-I-mean-teaching. Happy to say this one didnt take too long by torchlight. Cleverly hidden and dry considering it doesnt have a lid. Log is full but I might see if I can come back and add a new one. If the swag holding the log is put back the same way, this may survive ok without a lid until the CO can replace. Mihi ki a koe, mo te keteroki #398
A keen eye will spot something that doesn't *quite* match.. but it took us a few looks to find! The cache pin gave us a good clue as to what side to look at, and then it was just using the geosenses to work out what was different. Very well constructed camouflage! The lid of the cache has gone somewhere, but a convenient piece of SWAG is holding the log in tightly.
i thought i would at least look at this one, that can't hurt, almost did hurt because the ground was slippery but i managed to stay upright, D5 at least its not T5, gps didn't want to settle, so had me looking at a lot of places, just when i thought i was too crazy this time and should give up i spotted something that didn't look quite right, bingo, oops thats a different game, i found it, now how do i get it, im vertically challenged, but i managed it, cache lid is missing but log was in there and i signed it, getting it back wasn't too hard, tftc
First time in Gisborne, so of course we had to grab a cache or two while we're here! Was expecting something different given the D/T here, but the cache was quickly in hand and the log signed, my new Easternmost find. TFTC!
Today we had a good drive / wander round the town and picked up several caches - trads, puzzles we had solved and a few multis worked on today too.Cache found after a short search - being guarded by a feathered sentryLog signed and all returned TFTCTim and Viv - ddm
Had a free hour, and I needed the entire hour to find it. Local boaters here in masse. Coords are bang on. Everything is good at GZ. TFTC TFTHSL * dronnord * ...\*""*.,,.*"",..,*"",..\

This had us searching high for quite a while but when the right place was discovered it was easy, as is always the way. A great little hide. TFTC and a favourite from me.
This has now become my most easterly found geocache on the planet!
Perhaps for a good while.
Perhaps also one day I can find a cache at the most southerly extremes by the same co too.
Thanks nzkeko for the geocache!

Found by Blenheim Bear over in Gizzy looking at bent bridges, I could not resist the challenge of this one. Thanks for the cache all good today, but the container lid is missing, cache log is still there and signed. Blenheim Bear
Couldn't get this on our after work missions as always after dark so eventually on our last day in Gisborne we had a bit of time before we returned to the bay. Nicely tucked away but we as there was no one around we had a good look & found & returned the cache.
Managed to get some time during daylight hours on our last day in Gisborne to get this one. Luckily no one around which allowed us time to have a good look. Tucked away. Tftc
That was fun but no luck today. We're visiting the area from Crestview, Florida, USA. Thanks for creating the cache.
Summer Geocaching Road Trip - Day 3 - Palmerston North to Gisborne - definitely put the road in road trip today. It's been a while since I've been off on a road trip and this one has been on the cards for quite a while. I plan to visit some parts of the country where I've done very little caching before and hope to complete the qualification for a challenge cache in Nelson. Reading a few previous logs gave me confidence to attempt this one. Didn't take too long to get my hands on the cache. TFTC, Biggles.
Located without too much trouble but sad to see it's in need of repair. TFTC nzkeko!
We soon found the empty container, signed a new log and left it stuck under the cache. Cheers nzkeko.
Took a few minutes to track this one down. As mentioned by previous cachers, lid and logsheet missing. Left a temporary log and replaced as found.

A nice quick find of the container, but the lid is missing. I tried to put in another log but it wouldn't stick. Thanks for placing and maintaining your cache.
Ms_KR and I are off on our annual pilgrimage to Auckland to visit family. Today we cruised from Napier to Gisborne The weather was fine but humid!
Thanks to all CO's for publishing and maintaining their caches. .

Like others found the container but no log to sign. And yes recommend sturdy footwear here!
Found the lockbox, unfortunately it does not contain a log, needs some maintenance, have placed back where we found it. Very stealthy location though. Wouldn't recommend barefoot or jandles on this hunt.
Was on my way to get a nearby adventure lab and thought I'd have a crack at this one as well. Didnt take too long to spot the cache but there were too many muggles coming towards me so walked away and watched some ducks until they had gone then back to grab the cache. As taybeedragon mentioned lid of container is missing but container is holding log in place. Thanks for placing nzkeko.

Walked across the rail bridge. Lots of people jumping off here. Log and lid miussing on Magnetic key holder. Put temp log in bag under Keyholder. Got a piece of glass in my foot for my efforts here. Bummer.

Needed this one for my D/T as the ones at home are proving to be elusive. Found the cache after a short search though I did miss it on the first look. Happy to be able to sign this combination off.
Malinkaly and I planned a road trip to go to the MEGA but Covid has postponed the event again. We decided to continue on with our planned journey making adjustments as we go with the ever-changing travel restrictions.
Greetings from Dunedin!
Thanks for the cache, nzkeko

We had a nice lunch in the sun on the steps of the war memorial watching the waka-ama boats go up and down. I then left Ms M talking on the phone while I biked over the bridge to make this find.
A good hide. I like the container.

Found it, what a great hiding spot not too many muggles though broken glass nearby and a dead bird (rip).
Tricky to locate and extract but managed. Only a couple of places behind you Bookthief. Lots of broken glass to beware of. TFTC
Visited this spot during my East Cape Easter 2021 journey.
I remember this hide. It was my third, lucky, attemp here.
First time couldn't locate it.
Second time with Aiden29 container was to far away to reach it...
Today... Third time lucky!
Instant one at GZ previously obtained....
Now off to an Irish pub to celebrate with nice creamy pint!. TFTC

Tried briefly, but had to pee really badly and couldn't focus. Went back to the hotel and came back, and found it almost instantly with fresh eyes. Thanks for the cache!
We are on our summer holiday, we usually take a few weeks and travel around the South Island, but this year we are heading around the North Island. Heading up the West coast and back down the East coast. Finding only a select few caches along the way, we are mostly targeting some challenges we have qualified for, some large size caches, some that fill gaps in our date placed grid, a few D/T combinations, some with lots of favourite points, letterboxes and anything else that grabs our fancy.
I had a fall on day two of our holiday, while out geocaching which has resulted in a fractured bone in my leg and I am in a moon boot and with crutches and I was told to keep weight off my leg. So I am only limited use when it comes to our trip now. I tend to stay in the campervan and just hand out suggestions of when and where GK should search.
This was the 'really want to find' cache in Gisborne, I was intrigued when I saw the D/T rating so I hobbled out of the campervan down the well designed steps and over to gz. After a brief search gk found it. He has the right attributes to get it easily.
Thanks for placing this cache and thank you for the smiley.

After performing a few calisthenics with no luck I stood and used my xray eyes. Log is full so put new log in. Thanks for bringing us here nzkeko.
A quick search and all was revealed...nice tidy hide ..love the walk / cycling track ..awesome .thanks for a great cache
On a road trip with NZ Bozzy , Heading back down to Wellington with a couple more stops to make. This wanted this one for the DT rating as it is missing from our grib so very pleased with a find.
Main reason was to grab the North Island TMTG caches and some oldies. And also to celebrate a birthday with a 0

Thanks spotted it. Targeted this cache for its D/T rating when I knew we would be in Gisborne for the TMGT tour. With Kiscardi.
Awesome find and a sneaky one at that!! First ever D5 and took us about 10-15 mins to find
Found. Went in the cover of night, so no muggles could see us. Great hide. Thanks
Took the boys for a couple of caches today. Found a couple in good shape

After getting off the cruise ship, we walked to this cache before our shore excursion began. We spotted the cache right away, but it would take someone with extremely tiny hands (or appropriate tools, which we weren't carrying) to wrestle it out of its hiding place. Somehow we managed to retrieve it, sign the log, and replace it, all without disturbing the pigeon who was roosting within inches! T4TC!
Had good look about but nothing but pigeons. There is signs of work being done on the south side of the bridge which may have lead to it going missing.
Spend a lot of time searching the many possible hiding places, but no luck. Possibly muggled. Tftc. MattieH from Tassie
Found this one after a little while of searching, removal was another story though. Wished I had my kids with me to help. Finally got it, wrote down the date and then I think I forgot to sign my name!! Haha! Didn’t know this had a rating of 5. Would have never attempted it if I would have known, but turned out there weren’t many muggles so wasn’t as tricky!
I looked for quite some time and was really happy to finally get it - thanks for placing!
Persistence must be my hubby Tui’s middle name! Once again he came up trumps after quite a lengthy search of the many possible perches. However, finding and retrieving it was easier than opening it but finally Tui managed that as well. We really enjoyed strolling along the path and watching the canoe crews and kayakers. TFTC
After dinner nearby Mrs B and I walked across the road to hunt for this one. Checked out a few spots before disturbing the keeper of the cache. Found the cache soon after tucked away in its hiding spot. All good here, TFTC.
Read all the logs and had the cache in hand. Keep looking up but not as up as you think tftc our first D5
First D5 for us nearly gave up but reading back over previous logs convinced to keep going. TFTC
Saw the difficulty D5 on arrival to gz. Didn't put me off. Wasn't to long after finding the guardian of the cache that I spotted it. Quickest D5 I've ever done. Lol. Tftc
After a strenuous hike D4nielB and me decided to do some relaxing caches in Gisborne.
We were lucky and could locate this one relatively fast.

We could find this geocache while traveling in New Zealand. Today we drove from Whakatane to Wairoa. Around noon we arrived in Gisborne and I took the opportunity to get some geocaches. Main target was the virtual about Cook, but along the way there was a highly rated tradi under the bridge. I was able to get this one after a search of 15 minutes. My reward was a log and some pigeon droppings on my hands. The first stage of the virtual was the hardest one as I didn't fully understand the question. The rest of the questions are easy. There are fences around WP3 so it was not completely legal to get the information there . Thanks for this virtual and the interesting walk. Just before heading back south to Wellington I could find Missing Geocache Gizzy, a cache I needed for my 81-matrix. A bit overrated, but great to get my matrix fuller.
Thanks for showing me Gisborne in another perspective.

Worth the 5 difficulty. Left small tb. Off cruise ship Golden Princess from aussie
Nice find. Musogurl found it after a few minutes. Was nice to be in the shade and luckily no muggles hanging about or going past. Lull in bikes at the right time.
Nice spot. TFTC. Nice dry cache. Got a bit of a fright from the pigeons though!
