Today we headed out to find some caches after a bit of a hiatus whilst we were dog sitting. Todays plan was to tackle Mt Barrow and other caches in the surrounding area. What a great day we had, the weather was pretty wild at the top of the mountain and only 4 degrees, certainly blew out the cobwebs . We found lots of caches and enjoyed our day. Picnic at Barrow Hut was great. Our thanks to all the CO, certainly wouldnt be enjoying Tassie as much without you all.Great walk from the top boom gate, we couldnt see much more than 10m but the chilly wind certainly blew away the cobwebs. Nice find by the Geohusband TFTC
Out on a maintenance run and as it is such a beautiful day did walk Molly the Geodog to this cache.Cache and contents are in excellent condition. Also an easy find due to accurate coordinates.
With the sun shining and no rain to be seen, I decided to drive up a mountain and collected a few caches on the way.
The gate was closed but I had my bike with me so I unloaded it and rode to GZ. I found a new shiny mint tin with a bison hidden inside so I stamped the log sheet and put back under the rocks where I found it.
The countryside up here is very pretty. The different coloured moss on the rocks, the different textures of the low shrubs and bushes, the way the clouds float passed hiding the towers, a special place.

In the area for some peak bagging. No problems climbing the peaks but alas we couldn't find this cache.
Today we are heading back home after spending three fantastic days touring around the North East of the state. We have decided to meander our way back taking our time and taking a few roads less travelled in the North and we were picking off one or two outstanding caches along the way. It is quite a grey and overcast day with spots of showers, therefore good day to be in the car for most part.
Wow what a breathtaking drive and views. It was a little bit hairy in parts but we navigated it quite well. The gate was closed so we walked the 2km round trip. It was an invigorating walk with all seasons in one day in the space of a couple of hundred metres. Once at gz the rain started to become horizontal and it was very windy. Nevertheless we were very determined to find the cache. So we searched and searched and searched some more. We looked under every rock in a 20 metre radius and alas we could not find it.
We were as sad as the blue frown icon. However it was a great experience and we are glad we gave it a go anyway.

I came here yesterday on a date with a muggle. I figured it was too early on to introduce her to my weird interest in finding Tupperware containers in the bush so I decided to come back today for the caches. So glad she showed me this place and so so worth coming back. Yesterday it was all covered in cloud. Today beautiful panoramic views. A FP from me for the location although the cache needs some TLC
Hello flange_1&tribe thank you for the cache
EeePees and I were on a weekend away with the main intention of finding the trig point on top of mount Barrow.
Today was our second attempt of finding the old school cache, last time the weather wasn't too good at all, luckily it was a little better today. Iparked the car by the gate and walked out to your cache it wasn't too long before it was found.
We continued our walk out to the TV towers for a look by the time we started our walk back the weather bad got deteriated withe the wind increasing bringing the clouds in with it, by the time we were back at the car the werther was too bad for a walk to the trig.
Sorry for the late log, trying to cache up a bit.

A fantastic day to head up to Mt Barrow. In the past the gate down the bottom has been always closed. I was happy to see it wasn't. Fantastic landscape and quite. Only the sound of insects. I hadn't planned on finding a cache but I thought I would look up see it there was one up here. Happy see there was one. The gate up top was closed so I made the 800m walk to GZ. The cache was a bit wet so needed a bit of TLC. TFTC
Woo hoo we where excited about this one beautiful day apart from the freezing wind.

out and about with 2 Rafas caching of to the north and then the east perhaps. TFTC TNBPLN log dry. easy find after a bit of a walk we got to GZ thanks to the boom gate. great pictures of the other antennas. a nice day, cloudy at first then fined up.
Thanks for the cache flange_&tribe.
RLD4963, and I were visiting the north of the state for a couple of days. After staying overnight at Hadspen we made our way to Weldborough via Mount Barrow.
Neither of us had visited Mount Barrow before, and it was certainly an exciting drive up to the top! Great views, although there were clouds right at the top which would lift to reveal blue sky and then reform briefly - but it was not cold and not windy, and we got some great views. The road barrier was closed so we needed to walk the last 1km or so to the cache.
Nice quick find at GZ, we took lots of photos of the various views up here, and then made our way back to the car. Thanks for placing a cache up here to give us a reason to visit.

Well catching up with logs going all the way back to last year is painful let me tell you!
We had hoped to drive all teh way to GZ but a gate put paid to that plan, so walk it was, it took a little longer than we were thinking but it was worth it, not many views to start with but staretd to get some on the way back as the smoke cleared.
Thanks for the cache.

Damn gate! Ok, so we parked at the gate and walked the roughly 2km round trip. It was pleasant enough and with a wind change all the smoke was disappearing finally giving us some nice views. We were looking for a slightly bigger pile so took a minute to locate the cache. We added our names to the Hancocks addition then continued on to the towers for a look.
Thanks flange_1&tribe.

An exhilarating drive up here, and a stunning day for it. This cache was a nice and easy find. The log book was saturated and the zip lock bag was torn. We added a sheet of paper in a new zip lock bag and also used another zip lock to protect the cache. TFTC

Found it.
The logbook is completely wet. It is rather useless for writing any entries into it.

Made the walk to the cache as the boom gate was shut. On arrival I took ages to find the thing as I was looking for a stack of rocks. Once found I tried my best to sign the cache but the log was so wet. Sorry I forgot to bring a replacement.
A great adventure out today collecting caches around the Mt Borrow discovery area and surrounds. All up a total of 10 finds. Was lucky enough to get the car out of the ditch when coming down after doing the discovery trail. I hit a soft patch in the road and it slid down into a ditch. Lucky for the 4wd I was able to reverse up out of it.
I am currently writing detailed logs because of a challenge provided by Project-GC. "The Author" Badge challenges geocachers to average one hundred words or more in each log. Given that I have found so many GC caches, I have to write many logs with well over 100 words for a long period of time to get my average to the target. Apologies to anyone who finds the logs tedious but it is the only way that I can strive to attain this challenge. After over 5000 plus caches (which includes all cache finds up and including yesterday), the average log length is just over 70 words. I am now entertaining the possibility that I might be able to achieve my task before the end of next year. It's surprising how much is has increase since doing this.

The weather turned quite nasty by the time we got up here today. The road is shut so I didn't fancy the walk today, so until next time the cache is safe from me. Thanks for the drive though Andrew.
Time to revisit a spot I've been before
The drive up here doesn't require a 4WD at all
Those with a fear of heights may not want to try this drive though
And up at the top,
as expected,
it was damn cold !!! [:o]
Cloud base was about 100 feet lower than the car park today.
So the views through the mist were scant at best
You wouldn't know there was a lot of communications infrastructure up here !!
(Like one of Australia's most powerful TV transmission towers}.
It was all hidden in the mist
So while me fillings in me teeth were picking up Channel 2 loud and clear,
I rugged up and took the stroll across the plateau to GZ.
A quick find at GZ and a bit of a view down the Tamar greeted me [^]
The stroll back was far chillier,
I had the headwind !! [:o]
TFTC,
and soggy logbook.

Found, cant log on paper as its smelly mushy and pretty foul but it is still there! I didn’t have a container with me or i would have replaced it beautiful day up the mountain
Yay,a magnificent day and walk and tftc..easy find once you're there...log is in need of replacement, so couldn't sign, but we found....please bring new small container..snow proof and log..
Bit wet inside container. Dried out as best we could. Container not really suitable for alpine environment.
Once at the top of Mount Barrow, if you continue along the road you come to a gate which shows that the road is closed (and probably will be for some time as parts of the road are gone!), anyway, I decided to go out for a walk after all it was only 800 odd metres...couldn't see more than 20 metres ahead of me and that was a long walk, although much quicker back. The cache was in a bit of a state, very wet, and unable to sign and as I was 800 metres from my car, I couldn't replace anything. I could only take a photo as proof of log.
Take two...and in the Land Cruiser this time which was much more ideal. No longer a drive by though, with a road closed barrier making it about an 800m tramp. It was icy cold, but absolutely lovely up there nonetheless. Unfortunately managed to lose track of my pencil amongst all of the layers we had on, so took a photo of the cache instead. Thanks heaps for taking us beyond the barrier. Wacky and the miniature brat boy.
Hadn't read the cache description before getting to the top, and there were no 4wd only sign today, just a rough surface warning, so yep, I actually took the Mercedes sports coupe up into the clouds. Wasn't so bad, though certainly not ideal, but unfortunately the white out got so bad once I was up there that I couldn't even see my feet, so a quick exit was had and I'll just have to wait for another day to get this cache (in the Land Cruiser)
I remember coming up this way many years ago on a family holiday, I remember the road being really scary.... I was disappointed this time.
Anyway drove as far as we could, stopped at the boom gate and hoofed it from there. Conveniently a couple was walking back down from the towers as we reached GZ, so it was on to the towers for us too. Came back and spotted the "4 Rocks" in round .000034 seconds flat. Signed log and made a reasonably brisk dash back to the car, the chill was tolerable, the incoming rain wasn't.

Another DNF, less than an inch of snow on the ground but no sign off a stack of rocks
Gate locked. Walked the km from the gate to GZ. Couldn't fInd hint left alone the cache.
After a very chilly jog into a stiff breeze we were very disappointed on not finding this one. Hint did not help either. Might need checking by CO as it hadn't been found for awhile?
A long walk ...... but co-ords were quite good. The hint didn't help as the cache site had been disturded so we have tried to put it back as the hint describes it. TFTC
Well it's definitely not a drive by any more due to the locked boom gate. I reckon it would be close to a 2k return walk by road, give or take. That's alright because the views over Launceston and down the Tamar valley are amazing. Took a bit of searching but we eventually located the cache which is in good condition. Thanks for bringing us here.
Headed up the mountain in the Geocruiser on a gorgeous sunny day hit the top and got blown away by the wind and the views. So much for a drive by the boom gate was down and we had to hike to GZ, all part of the adventure. TNTL TFTC

Low cloud and drizzle so not much of a view today. Signed the log and headed off to find the other caches close by. TFTC!
Quite dense and low cloud was the main feature of the visit, with visibility down to less than 10m at times. However, due to the excellent hint (thanks!), we were able to make a quick find. Obviously, no view today but the frogs were certainly very active. TFTC
Scary ride up (and down) the road with a sheer drop on one side. Made half of the team quite nervous. The other half enjoyed the challenge and couldn't keep the smile of his face. It was cold at the top but beautiful. Glad we visited earlier in our day as we saw Mt Barrow from Myrtle Park where we stopped for lunch and it was covered with clouds. It was hard to retrieve the log from the container because my fingers were so cold. TFTC and the opportunity to see some wonderful views.
Nice walk in on a great summers day. Went all the way up to the towers and station after find. Have been here in the snow should be interesting to try and find in winter. TFTC
Never noticed the sign down the hill.
Driving carefully as to not spin the wheels on the loose gravel, I soon made it to the top and parked near the closed gate, and walked in to the cache.
I don't think I could have picked a better day. The sun was shining, there was a slight breeze blowing and a few clouds in the sky.
I found the cache OK but my pen refused to work in any way, shape or form so I tried a little mud. That didn't work so I pressed really hard with the pen on the last page.
Thanks.

After an interesting drive to the summit we headed off to do this one. The boom gate was locked so we walked to the cache. Thought the clue might be a little bit obscure as the whole area is strewn with rocks but as we were walking along the road we spotted them easily. Thanks for bringing us back up here. It's been a long time between visits.
Boom gate was open so we drove right to the cache,
Found easily cheers FLANGE_1&TRIBE

On the way out to East Coast....so called in here on a glorious day. Walked in from the boom gate which enabled the spectacular views to be taken in. For those coming up.....definitely pick a clear day as the views are awesome. Noticed some snow on one Mt. only. Cache had been signed by vk7rp(radio call sign I think)....maybe not a cacher??? so will hold off on claiming FTF. Top cache Flange-1 & Tribe....many thanks...Cheers.
Yes I was the first to find, a couple of days late logging it in the system, due to extended camping trip at nearby Myrtle Park. Yes the cacher-name is also my radio callsign .Anyhow it is a top area to visit and had to walk in from the locked gate. There was a sprinkling of snow around which added to the magic. But it was COLD.
