A long weekend in the Rocky area with Fangsoki, Gaz'n'Kab and Captain Terror to find some old and unloved caches.
We also search for archived caches and we all had this one on our list to find while in the area. Captain Terror had found it previously and we found it neatly tucked away.
TFTC.

Finding this geocache was possibly the most 'ninja' I have been in a long time - but alas, I did find it!
I had flown myself into Rockhampton this morning and can attest that there are indeed many lagoons around the city, in fact it looks like the buildings and roads have nudged up out of a massive swamp. But now onto geocaching and this one came up in my research and I so I headed for it despite being archived. I had to park a distance away and walk to the driveway as it was now after business hours. The little gates were closed but I assumed one could still walk in to the lookout platform. So I did.
I was about 90% of the way there when a garbage truck rolled towards me. He pulled up and suggested seeing as the gates are closed, I should leave before security sees me. Hmm.. thanks buddy. Then, as if on cue, I spotted a security car - it was much further inside but still within sight. At this point I should have turned and headed back for the car and I almost did.
Instead I waited a few moments for the truck to move on, then I sprinted for the platform lookout and dove over the railing and down into the recessed stairwell. That went well except that I had landed in a pile of green mud. Great. No time to waste I bolted out towards the lookout. About half way I realised why the area is cordoned off - most of the floorboards are rotten. Somehow I managed to miss the really rotten ones.
I spun around, looking for the cache and luckily spied it, tucked away. I made a grab and squatted down for a record-setting signature in the logbook - a date and rushed name was all I dared. I slapped it all back together and rehid where I'd found it. To save risking the floor again I bailed over the railing and ran back up to the road. I didn't bother looking for the security at this point, but rather sprinted for the gate.
Was I seen by security? No idea. Have I done more dumb things for a geocache find? Maybe, but I'm struggling to remember when. This one would be easy to do when the gates are open during business hours. But, this geocache lives on and can be found by those who are thusly inclined. TFTC thefourbees

Found at 10:37 AM GAFF2. We had a lot of trouble with this cache in Sept 2009 and couldn't find it, Today we were determined to find it as so many have after our attempt. First problem we encountered was that the whole platform was taped off! Looks like it is not safe to go on there any more. So we checked under and found nothing again.
Now we must say that we take great notice of D/T ratings to help us hone in on cache hides, so with a T of 1.5 we were not going to be looking much higher than head height as we did 4 years ago. But then another sign appeared and we thought - nah it couldn't be there could it? Sure enough it was And that was after jumping onto the platform, which is no longer allowed .
Thanks thefourbees.
Feedback: Terrain rating should be at least 2.0 and you better have a look at the site as it has been cordoned off.

Easy find. Thanks for maintaining this one. Nice to see a 4-yr old cache still out with the original log! TFTC!
Ignored the bunting and walked across the grass that had been sprayed with pink stuff. A quick find then thought we better get out of there. A busy place at 8.30am. Thanks.
Found location of cashe. While trying to retrieve it, I was spied by bloke from the dump. I was greeted with a hearty earful of abuse and quickly removed from the area. I suppose I deserved this as I did go around the safety fencing to get in there. Have not handled cashe or signed it. I'm going to log this a find. I'm not going back. Thanks
There is one of those High Visibility caution fences blocking the path so we wern't too sure about putting too much effort in to finding this Cache, We probably did the wrong thing by going around the fence but with 72 yellow smillies on this page already I didn't want to add a Blue one. Found easy after changing elevation a bit.
Found it on our return visit - not sure how we missed it last time. A lovely outlook. Thanks thefourbees
DNF as the walkway to this one was blocked off by high-vis. red tape due to maintenance/reconstruction. We will come back at a later date to uncover this one.
Took alot longer to find then it needed to due to the area being fenced off at the moment.

Great hide - lucky hubby has long arms! Having two boys they were so excited to find another lego man inside this container...Yay, now they won't fight over one!!! We left a few novelty erasers and a keyring in exchange. TFTC
Found with Bedmaker while in the area for the weekend.

Found with TassieGirl13 while in the area over the holidays.
The GPS had us in the wrong spot at first but after expanding our search area a bit we eventually found the right spot.
Being the weekend the area was busy but luckily not at GZ.

Had to get a little help from The Bowra's A team to reach this one. Nice hide. TFTC
3rd times a charm! NOT safe for kids. Happy to have finally found it. Left goodies took nothing. :0)
Thankfully this was not a muggle prone as I thought it would be. Hmmmm - it certainly was not a terrain 1.5 the way I retrieved the cache It is in good condition. A very beautiful area. TFTC thefourbees

First find for the day with geokid in tow, didn't take too long to find. Lovin it!! TFTC...TNLN
It was raining all day yesterday in Yeppoon, we were stuck in our caravan and couldn't hunt caches but today the weather was much better we went to hunt caches around Rockhampton...took us a while before Mr Bushies2 found it. Thanks thefourbees.
Came in after dark - walked in, but had an easy find. Probably the easier time of day to do it. Cheers Gav [8440]
Visited at night but could see that this is a fantastic location.
Wished I had the time available to be here during the day!

Found it! Lovely breeze. Took snake balloon and left JNK card from Walking on Trash cache.
Brahms6 found this one on Christmas day with "Moistvonlipwig"
We waited all day for the rain to stop but ended up going out in the rain to find this cache. Moistvonlipwig took his new GPSR and it took us to the same spot as mine, good news. Took a hairclip left a Goose and A Turkey. This seemed appropriate for such a hide. Signed the log

Logged with Kasper Magnusson and Maria Lindahl. A pretty easy one but perfect for a sunday evening
Found on the way home from 10/10/10+10 and with the dump being closed, no muggles and a nice sunset. Thanks thefourbees. TNLN.
It was a bit smelly with the breeze blowing our way, but with the use of our littlest fuddley we soon had the goods and were on our way.

Found it eventually but I wasn't going to give up as I did not have a very successful day caching, its all those bulls!!!!
I had a quick, unsuccessful look for the cache when first arriving at GZ, but got sidetracked with the birds. After a bit of that I turned back to go look for the cache when I espied it quite unexpectedly. Thanks for putting a cache in this good spot.
Hehehe that's were I would have put it. Funnier then that was the Tip Worker who found it in April, thought it was drugs, read the note, left a message and put it back Hehe. Cheers from Sydney.

After looking and finding what would be the perfect hiding spot, I still could not find the cache. The Gardens did look fresh though.
Maybe next time

Had to laugh at the last entry in the log book. It was from a dump attendant who had noted someone acting suspiciously in the area and he had come to investigate after they left. He was sure he was onto a drug drop. Don't know whether he was dissappointed or relieved but he conceded that it was great that people came to see the birds in the reclaimed area.
Thanks the fourbees

Arh to think that this spot was a dump, the regeneration of this area is a tribute to the council.

TravellingStrom found this and took TB
There was no room to leave large TB I had with me
I have just checked and there is no record of the above TB being here, I guess someone forgot to log it in?
Now what do I do?

Found second time round, just needed to read the instructions more carefully. Made some swaps. Took Cockaroach travel bug, for placement elsewhere.
Found with Jimw83 while I was in town visiting friends and family. Interesting little spot and opposite to the mess that is in the general area. Good thing Jimw83 is tall.
Thanks, Deathtrip

It was certainly hiding at the dump and so well we couldn't find it. Was a novel place to have a cache I have to admit so well done in your thinking. Enjoyed looking at the lakes, shame we couldn't pull up the cache though. Anyway, TFTC...eatmorchikin & Stigglepot, Brisbane

Got this one today while at work...(Oops hehehe) in Rocky
I dropped in a coin that isn't from this site.

Had to drop off a couple of old TVs that geoson no longer wanted so made a trip to the dump early last Wednesday 23rd September. $5.00 poorer later, I decided to look for the cache on the way out. I wonder who thought up the idea of placing a dump right next to a river. Maybe the powers that be hoped that a flood would come along and wash all the rubbish away. Putting the wetlands next to a dump is another strange decision. Oh well. I digress. Back to the cache. Looked everywhere, even slid down the hill then eventually found the cache. I just managed to reach it. Dropped off the Cockroach Travel Bug as I felt it had found Nirvana (the dump not the wetlands). Thanks Fourbees for the cache.
I'm willing to bet that the cache is still in place
Not that sign silly !!
Look behind you !!
That probably won't help

DNF at 1.35pm. For a difficulty of 1.0 the cache should have been quite simple, but not for us. We looked all around the sign which was quite bare really.
Thanks anyway thefourbees.

I thought it was us but after coming back and reading the past logs we were #5 in a row that recorded a DNF so I fee a little better. I guess we were there but it was not. Some TLC needed I think !!

No luck today. Found the sign, but with the amount of traffic around decided not to get too venturesome. Another day maybe.
The cache name got my attention
"Surely not ?" I thought.
I know some refer to geocaching as a 'scavenger hunt', but was this taking things too literally ?
Arriving by geomobile I followed the GPS arrow off the main road and to the wrong side of the tracks and through the main gate to the dump [:o]
I had to laugh. I've found many caches just outside the fence of the local dump, but never before had to enter the dump
But GZ was pretty obvious and I happily parked the geomobile in the location provided and wandered to the lookout.
Amazing. I counted over a dozen species of water bird in the lagoon.
With such a good food supply next door the sacred ibis were in plentiful supply.
My faves were the spoonbills though
Finally I remembered I was there for a cache.
Do you think I could find it though ?
No way !!
I even looked at the damn thing on several occassions and never saw it lurking !!
When I did see it, I laughed
I managed to grab the prize eventually without attracting undue muggle attention or breaking me neck
Murphy was nearby though.
Rather than risk life and limb to replace the box, I saw an opportunity for a quick and easy rehide
The cache rattled back into its hidey hole briefly before dropping several metres into the long grass below [:o]
So much for not venturing beyond fences
TFTC and fun and bird watching and rubbish trucks [^]

Another one I didn't need the GPS for. Just had to wait out some muggles sitting in a car and truck near GZ before we could get the cache. With all the cars and trucks going past it was bloody noisy. It's bit of shame really as it would be a nice place to view the birds.

Almost found this morning but council worker was keeping an eagle eye on us. Came back 6 hours later and found easily.

# FTF Woo Hoo !! Felt a little uncomfortable with what I thought I had to do with so many muggles around.A phone call to the Bees confirmed my fears. Prepared myself then waited for a short break in muggles and a quick action and it was mine. Grabbed GC to take to GC1NEB1event then move on . As this was my last cache for the day I stayed and watched the birds for a while. Thanks 4bees for another great cache.
