exellent find the hints sent me looking in the wrong place for a bit but found in the end
Another quick find here while in the area today finding caches. Thanks for the history lesson and also a cache to find.
Thanks for the cache and the history lesson. Even though our phone was misbehaving and had GZ some 20m away the logical placement and helpful clue ensured we had the log in hand after a minute or two. Log was very damp.
Today, Vamber, KiwifruitsNZ and alpenmilch80 decided to tackle some of the caches out this way. We enjoyed a day of lovely (and muddy) walking, chatting and caching of course!
We eventually spotted where the cache would be, and soon had the cache retrieved and logged. Thanks for history lesson and the cache!

After finishing the Solar System trail, Vamber, alpenmilch80 and KiwifruitsNZ decided to tackle a few more caches in the area, with one aim being to see KFNZ secure their 1600th cache!
A relatively easy find, though this was the second of a series of cache in what was to be described as the "murder series of caches"! A dead cat being the clue at this particular scene!

During the event at the Auckland's Botanical Gardens Team Vamber invited me to come along to tackle together with KiwifruitsNZ the Solar System trail and other caches in the area. I was a little bit scared about the weather forecast but it turned out to be a rain free sunny day . Due to the rain yesterday we had some muddy patches to cross which we all mastered slip-free and were rewarded later the day with some great ice cream....
Found easily after locating the right side of the road. TFTC

Nice quick find. I had no idea such swampy areas existed in NZ. Logbook wet through but did manage to sign. TFTC
Enjoyed a visit out here. Plenty of lovely black swans on the water. Quick find and really enjoyed the water views thanks.
Sad to say I am of the age that I remember this and the fact we used to go the Meremere to get a trailer load of coal for the winter fire. TFTC

I recall stopping on the highway and watching the coal buckets moving toward the power station. That gives my age away, does it not. I parked on one of the plinths before reading the description which said not to. Luckily the sharp bits have been ground away, where I parked. But don't drive in too far or a wheel goes over the edge. Oops too late. Lucky again it is a 4WD and getting out was easy. Not so for a car. Found the cache. Thank you. Now the warning! Paper wasps have taken up residence near GZ, so take a big can of insect spray or running shoes.
It was "yay there it is!" as going to sit down, but then spoting just a foot away from the cache hiding spot a good sized wasp nest!!!. I had just walked over it so an exit was in order, Log sighned at a safe distance and then replaced from the saffer angle, all done with no stings......this time. TFTC.
Quick find. Logbook sodden all the way through. Left some new paper after drying out the bag as much as possible. Possible future fishing spot. Thanks
A little search required. Cach was full of water, couldn't sign log. This cache needs some maintance.
Container half full of water, but we did not have a replacement with us.
+ a marble, - little green car.

This is a cache that I should have done a few months back but I had missed the turn-off. So it was done today. I knew that water level recorder towers and the catwalks had other uses.
Cache was rather damp inside and was only just able to sign the log.
Cheers for the cache.

9.35 - Container was full of water but was able to still sign log, dried it out as much as possible, co ords spot on. SL>TFTC
Last Meremere cache for the day. Took longer than it should have to find the cache... Nice hide, if a little damp. TFTC, Biggles
I do remember the coal buckets along the cable but in typical youthful fashion I had interest in where they cane from or where they were going. Nice spot for a cache. Enjoying a few in the area while helping at a rowing camp at Mercer. TFTC
Called in a couple of days ago but muggle on the hill was watching so left it.
Back today for a quick find

Last stop on the way home and nice to visit somewhere I hadn't been before. Pretty quick find. TFTC
Had never been here before. Very interesting. A few muggles around. Sat and ate a snack. When the muggles left the cache was quickly in hand.
Nice find. The Blue Duck got really excited when he saw the wetland so we had to let him go. TFTC
I remember seeing this as a kid. It was quite a sight. Coordinates spot on the money. TFTC.
Got it this time, The river iw way up after all the rain last few days but cache is still high and dry.

No wasps today. However being the first day of the duck hunting season made the place sound like a war zone. TFTC.
J remembers driving down here when the cableway was operating. Interesting to be back here again without the structures. Easy find at GZ, wasps still around. NINO TFTC
1.44pm. We had just pulled up when car load of fisher people turned up with nets and deck chairs , but they soon left.
A lot of wasps around GZ so watch out.

Did not find this one but with all the guys going into do work on maimais for duck shooting and some nice people releasing some hand reared orphan ducks from west Auckland I had to watch the carp swimming in the river quite a few times.
Interesting piece of history. Find was made by our smallest team member who is very good at getting into those hard to reach places...!

Geo-Goober parked on the pad, like ADV we didnt read it either, but thankfully we wernt treated to a flat tyre!
Made the hunt alot harder than it needed to be! I remember the bucket lines working as a young fella, it was quite impressive in its time

Oops, parked on the plinth before reading the notes. Lucky for me I got the right one and was able to drive away afterward.
Must of been an interesting sight in it's day.

Found as part of my three week caching trip from Wellington to Auckland - # 857. Thanks.
No 3 cache of four today. Have lived in the area a while and remember the pylons and cables being removed. TFTC.
Used to duck shoot here in my younger days. The cable cars were working back then. The road was gravel & could drive all the way down to the mine site. There was a gate that was open up to duck shooters during the season.
A lot of work has been done to restore the swamp back to the way it was.
Cheers funkymunkyzone

Would you believe it? A fisherman (after Koi Carp) had parked on the concrete plinth. Returned later and made a quick find Thanks.
The monocable would have been a sight to see. Looks like a good place to explore by kayak.

I can rember the cable way as a kid traveling south, good to see there is a cache here to keep the memorary alive
16:20 This was interesting. I remember these buckets from a younger life. Imagination filled in the rest...
We have driven past here many times, but never ventured up this road before. Odd countryside - if it was a bit warmer you might expect to see alligators in the swamp!
Nice cache hide. Thanks for another interesting detour on our trip to Cambridge.

Easy find, but, as I was going only by GPS, forgot to have a look at the non-monocable (nonocable?)
Snr Southern Augur retrieved the cache while Jnr and I sat it out in the cold NINO TFTC
Another quick stop in the area, I am old enough to remember the monocable well, was always fasinated by it.

No worries with the find, the whizzkid had it in hand before MandyP and I were out of the car. TFTC
