Steve was on a solo mission to grab this cache. While I relaxed at our accommodation, he ignored the warning signs on his way to GZ, where the search began. After the previous DNF, he wasnt too confident about finding it. But as luck would have it, he found it quite quickly. Thanks for an enjoyable Multi bucketeer.

28-Jul-24
I enjoyed the walk to GZ. Disappointed to walk away with a DNF after a lengthy search.

We are travelling with richlink on our Annual Caravan Geocaching road trip, using geocaching as our guide. We are staying in Portland for a few days, wandering around the area enjoying the amazing sights this area has to offer. An interesting multi here, thanks, bucketeer. We did the sums and set out, trying to get to our calculated GZ. Eventually, after a couple of false starts a 700m hike and actually giving up and walking away, we decided, just one more look. And there it was. LNCU.

Travelling with iluvtrekking from our home state of WA on. SA caching foray. Staying in Portland for a few days to grab some of the local hides. Its been sixteen years since since we were last here so enjoying the re-visit. Wasnt the quickest find - yes, no, got it! Thanks for the hide

31-Jan-24
Took a while but eventually found it after reading some previous logs. No one seems to care about the the sign on the track.

27-Jul-23
Unfortunately the way in to the final coords is all blocked off with high fences and no entry signs so this one has foiled me again.

16-Apr-23
Checked while out walking the dog. All good and dry

28-Jan-23
Not able to find today
Did find out that the New Zealander brought out my ancestors from Isle of Skye in 1853

26-Nov-22
Here at Portland we have found a few more in the area and this was one of them.

After our last DNF we were determined to get a smilie today, so we reworked our finals and headed off to GZ. Yep a 700 metre walk. Once there we could remember this spot. We spent half an hour looking, Mr "T" was about to give up again and he heard Mrs "T" yell out "I think I can see it", yep there it was hiding. It is hard to find but ready for the next cacher.

Cache and contents were in good condition.

Thanks to all the cache owners whose caches we found today.

12-Mar-22
Yesterday I headed off from Adelaide to the Portland area for a few days of caching and camping. This was on my target list of caches of interest.

The required information was soon collected and final coordinates calculated. Then it was a quick find at GZ just a short distance away.

Thanks bucketeer for the cache.

27-Oct-21
Well this was an interesting caching experience.
We dropped in yesterday to find the information and do the calculations.
We met a local lady who is planting various plants on the other side of the fence in order to improve her outlook.
She is doing a terrific job and we told her so. She was very proud of her green thumb activities.
We decided to hold off on the adventure until today.
A nice walk and after a little bit of looking we found the cache tucked away waiting for a finder.
With the log signed we headed back to the cache.
A lovely walk and the fence is still there and so are some things.

Thanks to bucketeer for this interesting multi

16-Aug-21
We walked along all the enjoyable walking tracks that seemed to lead to gz according to the map. Instead of finding your cache we got distracted watching whales. Thanks for the challenge

Find number 8706 on 25 June 2021

Back in town for a few days for work, it was great to finally finish a few caches started last time I was here.
Was at the nearby parking at first light, after finding the best way to Gz I soon was on the hunt after a few minutes I had the log stamped.
Was surprised to find a local meditation very close to Gz that early in the morning.
Cheers for the cache bucketeer.
Favourite point for sure.

Found it eventually, hidden in it's little cavern. Thoroughly enjoyed this cache with the waves crashing all round us. TFTC

11-Apr-21
Solved it but was unable to reach it, had to get assistance, TFTC

Nice walk along the beach. Great view from the lighthouse. Great cache. TFTC

Found at 11:26 AM GAFF3 - not that the hint is of any use in actually finding the cache Sad.
We searched for this cache nearly 8 years ago to the day without any luck - only finding the lid of the container. Today we returned and made the walk after finding that there is a new stair case that makes the descent a lot easier.
This time the cache was found straight away.
Thanks bucketeer.

Usually we have trouble working out multis, not this time though. tftc

05-Jan-21
Had a look for this one after breakfast this morning without any luck. Came back later on after lunch and with a different approach, kenare came up with the goods. Cigc. Tftc

05-Jan-21
We arrived in town yesterday and collected the info required to get the numbers. While some of our party were still sleeping we grabbed a coffee and headed out to search. Of course when we got to gz we were summoned back to camp. After touring around the countryside and stocking up on winter woollies to get us through the rest of our stay we headed down again to make the find. Woohoo!! I spied the cache first!! Lol, not that it’s a competition!! Tftc

A 5 day caching run, over the 2020/2021 New year period saw me leave on the Thursday the 31st of December and travel to the Brisbane Ranges, down to Warrnambool, Port Fairy, Portland, the up to Heywood, Dunkfield and Horsham, camping along the way. On the Saturday I met up with my caching partner, ilukaperi at the home of choocknchunk, where we spread the coronavirus around as much as we could. Enjoyed some 4wding around the Mt Cole area before making our way back home on the Monday.

So I spent New Year’s Eve by myself on the shores of Lake Elingamite, sipping on a glass (or plastic cup) of red wine and watching the sunset on 2020. Good riddance I say! I got up early and cached my way from there, through Warrnambool, Port Fairy and Portland before finding my camp for the night at Annya Camp. A lot of variety of cache types and some good ground covered too.

Man, they don’t make quick easy caches in Portland, do they?

Thought I’d just duck into town and grab a few caches and then leave.

2 hours later and I’m still looking for my 3rd!

So a nice easy 1 stage multi. Easy.

You’d think!

Still I learnt a lot, particularly about the people of Portland and their disinterest of signs designed for their own safety.

Here I was thinking I was being “dangerous” by ignoring the safety advice. But every Tom Dick and Harry were down there with their dog, and their kids and their girlfriends and their parents and their grandparents and their best friend’s cousin’s really hot uncle.

But anyway, I digress, there were a lot of people. And of course, being Portland, the final wasn’t too far from the initial Comoros, if you’re a Crow!

But anyway, there I was, trying to hunt around and not be seen by someone’s best friend’s cousin’s really hot uncle who was fishing nearby, or by the multitudes of others who have either ignored or can’t read the sign, trying to find this cache.

After a while, I resorted to a PAF, who was able to give me more detailed directions and BANG, there it was.

Wow, I need to come back to Portland and do all the caches. Just need to book into a motel for 3 months.

TFTC, a FAV point

28-Oct-20
It’s been just over 2 years since I last searched for this. I had no luck last time when I was doing some relief work in Portland. I looked for it in my second last day of work and the next day when I was going to try again it was pouring rain and blowing a gale so had to leave it unfound. Today it’s a beautiful day, my husband is out doing a spot of fishing and hopefully being as successful as me on this occasion. TFTC

Loved the lighthouse. Walked in past the fences like a local. Did not spot your hide. Great area.

28-Sep-20
This was worked out the day we arrived as we stayed in the caravan park right at the lighthouse. I was too chicken on day 2 to walk to the cache but after reading logs and watching locals walk I decided I was game whilst the boys fished. Thankfully it was a quick find and I was back out to safety before long. Lol. I love lighthouses. And of course more great views here. Thanks for the cache.

i came down to mount gambier with mogni to help do maintenance on the rail trail ( tomorrow ). We decided to go to portland for the day. First finder of 2019. The rain kept the muggles away.

27-Jan-19
Did a the calcs for this one off along the cliff down the steps and along the beach oops a fence no entry well it looks like it's pretty worn out fresh tracks and only 200 m went in for a quick grab but decided to get out when a bit of limestone fell down lovely walk so went down to the next multi thanks anyway

14-Oct-18
Stage 1 last night when we arrived in town. Made the trek to GZ this morning. Daily exercise ️. TFTC.

30-Sep-18
Not so much a DNF as a DNA. The southern end of the trail is blocked off and didn't have time to walk the 1km round trip just to see if the northern access was viable or not. Might need a check to see if it is or not.

22-Jun-18
Didn't ayyempt as there is a fenc across the accessway

30-May-18
Worked out the coords but it put me halfway down the cliff as far as I could see, past a couple of fences and danger signs. Dark and very windy, decided to leave it for now.

29-Mar-18
Went to check after a tip off by the last finder that the cache may have crept. Sure enough it had and is now back where it belongs.

02-Mar-18
I went to waypoint one and calculated GZ, and then headed past the temporary fencing (that was wide open, like a gate, so maybe it’s only to stop cars), where I found the cache in plain sight. A quick PAF and I was told it’s not supposed to be in plain sight, but I couldn’t understand where they meant for me to hide it. So, if you have time, I think you need to check on this one. Meanwhile, TFTC bucketeer

Find #3087. Found @ 15:18 with j-bean.

We're on holiday in Portland and I was able to grab a cache or two. I went for a walk to the lighthouse one morning and grabbed the information I needed. Today I came with my son to view the Water Tower lookout, and while we were in the area, I grabbed this cache. It appears that the area is not supposed to be accessed at the moment, but we were certainly not the only ones on the inside of the temporary fencing.

Took nothing, left nothing, signed log and visited some trackables.
Thanks for the cache bucketeer

21-Dec-17
I popped by the lighthouse again today Smile
With GZ worked out I peered over the edge Razz
Hmmm !!

GZ seems to be a bit inaccessible at the moment,
as the track below the cliff has been blocked by fences,
due to the subsidence of the ground at the top of the cliff,
which probably means gravity is going to bury the cache,
or cachers in rock sometime soon [:o]

Ah well !! Razz

PS: The barricades can be easily wandered around,
but wear a hard hat Wink

I DID IT! I FINALLY FOUND IT. It's so simple now that I know where it is. Don't give up, future cachers. You can do it!

25-Apr-17
scramping & I spent some time in Portland today...a day we had planned some time ago...
We got the coordinates easily...which always seems the case Razz...it's at the other end we seem to have trouble...
We searched & searched...my dickie knee was giving me some grief but I overcame that when I finally had my hand on the cache...
Thanks for the hide & the adventure bucketeer.

25-Apr-17
Having a great caching day with hevwalker. We worked out the coordinates easily and reached GZ after a lovely walk. Took a little longer than it should of but soon had the tricky little cache in hand, signed and replaced without too many muggles going past. TFTC

15-Apr-17
We thought the calculations we had done were incorrect, then it dawned on us that a beautiful stroll was needed. A fantastic Hidy hole. TFTC

15-Apr-17
Found w Tazz&Co. a great spot once we realized that we didn't have to abseil. Thank goodness for steps. TFTC

27-Mar-17
Found it after a long search.... Our co ord which were easy to solve and triple rechecked were 28 m out.
We knew it couldn't be in b'd rocks.
Lovely spot and we were happy that we had some early lunch while waiting
for the weather to abate before retrieval... Needed to PAF,
Enjoyed it though.
TFTC
Otherwise would still be looking!

13-Mar-17
We were camped nearby so it was a short walk to the first point and then we left the final point for a later time. A day or so later when the weather had fined up, we took the walk that was needed and thoroughly enjoyed it. The hide is a very clever one that had us looking for a little while. SL TFTC

12-Mar-17
I couldn't go past this cache!!! A Kiwi just has to find a Kiwi. GZ was easily calculated and then we had to decide which way to go to the cache. On the walk we discovered a dance with jandals which tickled my fancy. The cache itself did not take too long to find thanks to the eagle eyes of AnyMules Smile. TFTC 12/3/17, 10:24 am Find #2029

12-Mar-17
Came here with a Kiwi to find the Kiwi. She was excited to see all the "Jandals" - I just call them thongs.

Thanks for the cache bucketeer. Found on 12 Mar 2017 at 10:25 am. Find #4046.

Portland
Today we were caching with Alansee, Macamob, Phetlern & Liz and Bruce.
We cache untill it was time to attend the event. Afterwards we contiued to drive around the area caching & tiki touring as we went.
Bill had ridden his bike from the caravan bike to collect the information required earlier in the day. This afternoon was anice walk along the water front. As a kiwi himself this was certainmly a cache he wanted to find.
Favourite point given
Thanks for placing this cache bucketeer

11-Mar-17

After attending the 8 Months to Alexandra Event, we spent the afternoon with a group of friends caching our way around the town.
Apologies for the late logs, we are still catching up after an almost fatal computer meltdown.

Thanks bucketeer for placing caches for everyone's enjoyment.

Found witha group of walking cachers today. I had previously been at the top but not had the time to do the walk.

11-Mar-17
Here in Portland for the event. Great to get together with a larger group and do these varied caches and hides. Beautiful scenery and a location we very much enjoyed. Thanks to bucketeer for placement of this cache and adding to our enjoyment of the area. Big GrinBig Grin

11-Mar-17
Found by Mary & David, with Phetlern, Alansee, Liz and Bruce, and Mrs Crackers, at 1400. At last! Our nemesis has been defeated. We'd been here twice before and failed. Today, David looked in the right place and found it. One of our group had found the cache before, and was sure that the container and location were different. Our thanks to bucketeer.

11-Mar-17
I was in town for the event & a day of caching. I had worked out the coords for GZ quite some time ago when here with the family, but thought the beach had been closed off, so didn't attempt it. Today I thought I'd better complete the mission. It took me about 10 minutes before looking in the right spot. Sneaky hide. Thanks Bucketeer.

10-Mar-17
Another interesting multi and a very tricky, tricky hide. I eventually made the find, thankful I didn't drop the cache. Thanks bucketeer.

14-Feb-17
We found ourselves with a three day break to play with, so we seized the day and made our way to Portland for a couple of nights.

Thank you for bringing us to the Whalers Bluff lighthouse. Awesome! We really enjoyed our walk to the cache too. This was the only cache we needed a PAF for - and we had literally had our hand on it - isn't that always the way?

TFTC bucketeer.

27-Jan-17
Had the coordinates sorted last time we were down this way, but it wasn't until today that we were able to get here. Took a little while to locate, so we're happy to put a smilie here! TFTC

16-Nov-16
Knowing we were heading down to Portland today we printed off many multi info sheets in preparation for a day of multiple fun. It didn't take long to get GZ all sorted and we thought not too far away... Or was it ? After coming up with the best way to access the hiding location we repositioned our geomobile and made the hike along the beach admiring the cliff formations. Took about 5 minutes to locate the hiding spot to find the cache in good condition. We nearly got muggled out as we left GZ by the humans dog, not sure he will interested in signing the log Smile
Thanks bucketeer for another fun multi.

Greetings from the Cad from UK

Nice little multi that initially confused me lol

30-Apr-16
Our first cache for the day. We had the coordinates worked out and researched the best way to get to GZ. All routes seemed unwise or not recommended, still we tried to get to GZ as many had tried before. A gentle stroll and about 150 wooden steps down saw us on the beach. The walk to GZ of about 400 mts was uneventful providing you ignore the 'Falling Rocks' from above warning sign - (I took a photo of same).

At GZ, which is directly below a popular lookout, there were many bottles cans, rocks etc that had been thrown there from above. - hence the warning about 'FALLING ROCKS' from above.

I searched for about 20 minutes as a convoy of doggie muggles passed by. At all times I worried about missiles being rained down on me from above. To add to the disappointment the cache was not found - a third in a row for this cache. The placement of this cache needs serious consideration about placement and current existence.

Greynomads - Bill and Diana

29-Apr-16
This cache is my current nemesis. I'll try again in the morning.

Sigh.

24-Apr-16
I spent a long time at GZ but without a result. Oh well something to do next time I'm over this way

Great views and a nice walk along the beach wall. Thanks bucketeer. Nice to find at least one of yours today!

19-Sep-15
Wandered down with Haynicmay after a BBQ breakfast on the beach.
All good cache was where it belongs and was last logged by a muggle.

21-Oct-14
DNF today. Arrived at the lighthouse and gathered the information to give us the coordinates for GZ. Unfortunately there was no access to GZ. Beach blocked off and access to the cliffs also blocked off. A nice view from here however.

19-Oct-14
Found the route to where I had calculated gz to be closed to the public becuase of rock falls. Maybe i got the numbers wrong.

08-Jun-14
Got it.

09-Apr-14
on the way to portland...damn cant find it

01-Feb-14
Took a late afternoon walk to check this one out. Found it more or less where it belongs and signed last by a group of muggles. Replaced in it's correct orientation to ensure no more muggle finds.
There's been a few rockfalls around GZ recently and please use your own judgement as to whether it's safe or not. It would be best to stay away after heavy rain falls.

23-Jan-14
No luck for us today, GZ is very close to the cliffs and there appears to be some evidence of land slip and the nearby area has been fenced off. Enjoyed the walk along the beach.

20-Jan-14
DNF! Like the last log, searched & searched but came up with nothing Sad

22-Dec-13
It was not our day in Portland. Even if we really tried hard. We took all the way down to GZ and crawled through the bushes but the box we could not find Sad Is it still in place?

18:05. Logged it with Cachebox!

01-Dec-13
[Found today whilst out for a walk. Lovely view.]

Had a bit of a laugh explaining to some people why I couldn't just walk straight forward 20m when there was only 10m left to the edge of the cliff.

[Nice spot! Lovely walk along the beach, glad I had the experience. Never would have known of this track otherwise Smile

TFTC!]

Long walk... eventually made it. Dissapointed there were no swaps so I added a couple. TFTC

Can see the lighthouse from the caravan, so this morning went walking with lozza, checked out the history, went for a walk and was amazed by the chalky cliffs, met a local made a find. tftc

17-Mar-13
Excellant condition for a nice new treasure. The cliff faces were spectacular. Is this like the white cliffs of Dover? It felt like honeycomb to touch.
Well so close and yet the walk past the broken sewer pipe was enormous.
Anyway the bananas pushed on under turd.
B2 descibed the lighthouse as one from a monopoly set due to its small size. That is the advantage of this high vantage point.
Thanks bucketeer.

19-Feb-13
No good.... Sad dotty's chooks.

14-Feb-13
Nope 2nd go and still can't find it Sad

27-Jan-13
Kiwi commenced right near where we were staying and tormented us with its closeness despite a DNF on our first try. Fortunately the owner replaced it and we wandered down after tea to find a large party of people (all locals) also looking. The cache was soon located by them and it has now ceased to torture us. TFTC and the replacement bucketeer

27-Jan-13
Nice walk to an easy cache (this time lol) .. tftc!!

27-Jan-13
Good walk little cold.

26-Jan-13
Replaced the cache all good to go again
Sorry there's no swaps this time

23-Jan-13
Couldn find it!!

21-Jan-13
We looked for ages in this little odd spot. We then called a previous finder - Team Crackers who told us to look in a spot that we had already searched, but nothing. We then though that it got dislodged and could have slipped under the cliff, but we couldn't find anything there either.

It was interesting to read about the ships stories though.

21-Jan-13
A DNF for us too.

20-Jan-13
Went back today with partner hawkz25. Don't think it's there .. may need someone to check it out Sad

Nice hide and a great spot to go swimming on low tide.
