After a very rainy day it finally cleared so we went fishing of the wharf with the kids. Checked for geocaches and happy to see this one. We definitely made it to the right spot but couldnt find the cache unfortunately.
No luck here today. Met lots of locals but no cache. I see it hasn’t been found since 24 April 2022.
#14,478. An interesting multi in Matauwhi Bay in Russell, but not quite getting out to Pomare Bay. A bit of navigation to get to the final GZ, which was all quiet at the time of our visit. Found after a bit of a search. The cache was in good condition, all nice and dry inside. Took nothing, left nothing, signed log.*Thanks for the multi and geocache placement, and for bringing us to all these sites, **.T h a n k s. .f o r. .t h e. .c a c h e.**.M a u r u u r u. .k o e. .n u i. .a t u. .h o k i. .t e. .k e t e r o k i.*
Woohoo found it, 3rd time lucky and thanks for the puzzles they helped us too with some help from a geocaching friend. Lovely spot on the way into town. Thanks for bringing me here. TFGC
3rd attempt back for this one. The new puzzle pics helped as well as a hint we got from a local caching friend. Have replaced the cache container with an eclipse tin as the cache lid had disintegrated on opening. TFTC found with Yvettetb
Thanks for the cache, different to any I’ve done before, but a lot if fun. Have spent the day doing caches around Russell with friends. Coming back to the boat club for dinner tonight. Lovely area.
Up in Russell for a few days with friends and having a great time walking and geocaching. Wasn’t sure that we were going to complete this one but the puzzles were a great help. Very happy to find after two previous DNFs. Thanks for the puzzle and the cache
Finally managed to find my old photos on the hard drive, so have done some " virtual maintenance" , by reloading the page photos to GC ( rather than using Photobucket) and have re-loaded the photo puzzles with a newer, more reliable source ( Jigidi). Final was still there last time I checked ( but forgot to note here ) Will check again, when in the area..... Happy Caching!
Went to grab this one but could not locate. Was evidence of a rough sleeper, so did not spend too much time. Hopefully was looking in the right place.
Will have to come back another time.

1203. 5:10 pm. We enjoyed this quick multicache. eKitten said it was the best cache of the trip so far. Found with GRAkiWi and eKitten. TFT(piratey)C.
Have a good hunt but couldn’t see it. Had fun following the instructions. Unfortunately the hint images links were broken. Thanks.
Didn't have the photos so had to reverse engineer the coods - found after a bid of a search around likely suspects TFTC
With muggle niece visiting from Oz, today seemed like a good day to show her some of the sights in the BoI and introduce her to the world of geocaching.
After lunch at Long Bay, we stopped off for this one as we were heading back. After explaining about multis and compass bearings etc to the muggle, I decided on the reverse psychology method for this one and with the good hint, the cache was soon located in the spot I had calculated. Signed log and then replaced safe and secure for the next finder. TFTC

We used the reverse technique. We feel quite chuffed. Great first find of day. TFTC
Planning a trip to Russell and we noticed that this hadn't been found for a while and we like resuscitating caches (especially where the co does regular maintenance). Unfortunately the puzzles wouldn't load on the phone, so we needed to use the other method. A quick note to the CO who also kindly gave us a hint. We plotted 3 way points and our first was successful!
Logbook shows last find as 14/8/16!

Sitting @ GZ soaking up some lovely sunshine
... Looking & behold! There was the old cache peeping out at me. Placed back more securely in its original position. Gosh we haven't had any visitors for quite some time in our little backwater

LOL, I couldn't find my own cache! Maybe it is still there or has suffered a bit of " cache creepage"? But I left a makeshift replacement just in case, until I can return better prepared.
this took me too long, I was right on the spot and I walked away. Came back and had another look and "A-ha gotcha". TFTC.
Thankyou SaltyCacheNut ...Jolly nice to find an offset trad here in this Gorgeous little bay ! So peaceful .
Think this might be where I looked down to from a higher road earlier ....Took quite a bit of poking around to get the final...well tucked away ! I missed it at first feel .....Thanks for showing me this area !

I'm over in Russell today with my caching buddy to collect a multi for the new souvenir. A lovely day to be in this beautiful place. My Grandparents lived in Queens View Rd, in Russell many years ago. My Grandpa was a very keen sailor and sailed into his seventies in his boat Timog. We visited their grave today. I'd done the photo puzzles at home so we went straight to GZ. The cache was well hidden - we had to have a second look. Thanks for the multi
(1879) Up in the Bay today doing some caching. Work out where GZ would be, then the hunt started. 5 minutes of searching with the old faithful compass and GPS, we finally had the cache in hand. TFT multi.
After the wind prevented us getting to Cape Brett plan B was formed starting with this clever little multi, loved putting the clues together. The find took longer than it should with muggles sitting around but soon located. Thanks for making me explore this pretty spot.
Out with urbangypsynz and muggle. I had tried to solve at home, and I suspect I got my magnetic and true mixed up, as I went to the wrong place. If only I had bought the instructions for how to do a projection on this GPS.
We had walked to the end of the wharf, it looked like some kind of event was happening, or the locals are very musical.
Although I had taken photos, of the puzzle pictures, it was UGNZ who had printed them out, and with a bit of searching she soon had the cache. Thanks for the hide, I would have loved to say it was straight forward - yep it was, and another fun adventure

Out for a days geocaching road trip with mr tikitour, Vistra and Pageheart. travelling around the mid north and into Puketi forest. What a great day, weather was good, great company , lunch on a deck overlooking the beautiful Tapeka point and not a DNF today.....we signed the log in variations of TPV to save space and time.
A lovely spot here to find a cache, Vistra did the projections and we soon had the cache in hand. Thanks for brining us here...off to Russell for lunch , all the caching has made us hungry. TFTC

I was up in Whangarei for the long weekend and today joined up with tikitour and PageHeart for an all day road trip around Russell, Waitangi, Kerikeri and the outskirts of Puketi Forest. It was a great day out with great company, lots of caches found and pleasingly not a single DNF! We mostly signed the logs with some variation of TPV for our caching names.
Did my projections from the car and we walked straight to GZ and made a quick find of the cache in this nice little bay! TFTC!

So today saw a geocaching adventure with Vistra, Tikitour and myself. Our adventurer started early in the morning and saw us heading for a bunch of caches both new and old in Russel and Puketi Forest and surrounding back-roads. In total we spent over 14 hours on the road and out caching visiting places that we would never have gone without caching,
Logs were signed with initials VTP or a variation of the letters to save time and space.
Such a fun day. TFTC

Thought this might be a good one to start in Russell but it was not to be. Many bases were searched but nought located. Thanks for the fun nonetheless
I'm visiting Russell for three days and staying in a lovely place overlooking the bay. What a beautiful outlook!
On arrival at the boating club a man called out to me but it was a case of mistaken identity. "I often get that," says I modestly, "mostly for Sean Connery". "I get George Clooney myself," replied the salty seadog with a kiwi grin.
My stride must be longer than the average pirate's because I overshot the mark by quite a way. A bit of geosense together with the hint led me to the cache.
Thanks SaltyCacheNutZ. The cache is in good shape. Found at 10:38 AM.

I have been to Matauwhi Bay many times. Happy memories when a mate of mine used to have a 15m sail boat parked up the harbour. We used to take his dinghy from here and paddle out and take supplies with us and stay the weekend, me and his missus and their child. We often powered out to Bay of Islands somewhere to fish. Sometimes every second weekend. Only once we used the sails when we had the manpower to assist us. That was the best time. My geocaching foto on my page is from that time. Then the boat got sold and that was that.
Anyway, the cache here was no problem, just had to do some reverse maths - and didn't have to get my feet wet!

It was off to Russell to pick up a few caches today as I was staying in Ohaeawai for a few days.
I had just starting searching when the CO turned up and muggled me. Nice to meet you, SaltyCacheNutZ. Using the photos to hone in I soon signed off the cache.
Cheers for the cache.

TFTC and thanks for the hospitality! Had a great chicken dinner on Sunday! Left a gold doubloon
bubblezone likes sailing very much. So I went sailing in the Bay of Islands for the first time of my life. It was a fine day
After that we made this cache. My navigation led me in another direction, but the intuition of bubblezone was better.
Thank you for the cache!

obviously we should throw our compass away - or the given data is just inprecise - anyway we followed our guts and promptly found the cache. given the fact that it hasn't been visited for a while it is in impressingly good state. we retrieved the geocoin. could the owner please tell us, whether he wants it to stay in new zealand? or should we take it with us to hawaii or california or london or vienna? thank you so much!
My hunt yielded nothing but frustration, wet feet and dog poo. I tried both Sight N Go on my GPS to set the FL, and the paces method but neither proved successful. I wanted to check out the hint puzzles, but they require Flash, which is not good if you're in the field as most smartphones won't be able to handle it. I'll try to borrow a computer to look at the puzzle.
Up in Paihia for a long weekend celebrating my lovely wife, Stella's, birthday. Grabbing a few caches along the way...
This took us longer than it should have. I used a true north projection first. Doh! Found it quickly after fixing that problem.
The log doesn't appear to show many finders at all since early 2013. Odd. Anyway. All good and thanks for the cache.
Find #407. Thanks for the cache. 27/04/2014 13:36

Holidaying from Australia decided to squeeze in a geocache and found a perfect one near where I was staying, great area to retreat and a wonderful board walk. TFTC SaltyCacheNutZ.
In the area early this morning, and along with a nice full tide and glassy waters did what was required to get to GZ. Made hard work of finding it, but eventually came up with the goods. TFTMC.
Made this harder than we needed to but came up with the prize - Miss Beccy found it after Mr waiiti20 missed it on the first pass. TFTC
Checked on cache & it was still there! Came prepared to replace, so did change the container to a slightly larger one though it wouldn't make any difference to finding it... Same exact spot!
A quick piece of waypoint projection had us onto this one fairly quickly.
Great hide.

Had some trouble with the pirate hobbling today (nothing to do with the pint at the Duke of Marlborough), so ended up having to reverse engineer the directions using the GPS after converting magnetic to true using the iPhone. That left me a few possible search spots and came up with it fairly quickly. Thanks SaltyCacheNutZ.
Nearly didn't do this as looked too difficult but we did and it was the most satisfying one today out of the 14 we did. Paces were spot on. Tftc
Nice area, rescued a small beetle out of the water. Watched a few fish in the water. TFTC
The fish in the water next the the carving didn't seem too interested in some crushed lesnack crackers...so I ate the rest myself while following Riser5 to the cache. Took a little bit of digging to find it but signed and replaced quickly before the hangi was dug up. TFTC
Third the nerd he he he he he he he he ha ha ha ha ha ha ho ho ho ho ooh ho ho ho ooh ah !!!
I found it with my class and then I became a member and went the next day and found it again! [8)] TFTC
The projection was straightforward, and it didn't take too long to find the cache. TFTC
Wonderful place. Great place to chill out over a cold beer. Nice easy find. Enjoyed this one thanks.
Spent some time on this one but that was cool, just going over back bearings with my daughter. The bearings got us roughly right but the window then took over.
Found with local head master this is our 250 find !!

TB dips:
Sweet Blue Penguin waited here while Kiwi Steinlager called into the club while we had burgers & beer.

Stopped by & discovered on occasion a full tide can swamp the container which is not as watertight as I had thought [B)]
luckily the waterproof paper worked great and signatures remain intact, so dried it all out & replaced the same until I can figure out a better solution that will be weather, tide, muggle, cat? & possum proof! [:o)]

#15 - northernlite and I cached our way around NZ ....in from Ottawa Canada. A great way to discover a country! Brought along our newfound muggle friends from Auckland....converted them into cachers - sniffa 1 and 2! This was a fun way to introduce them to a multi. TFTC!
Touring New Zealand from Canada with Kikiwiki. Took some time to find the guardian but we eventually tracked him down. Followed the instructions loosely but it brought us right to the cache.Horray for Sniffa1 (or 2?) for making this a quick find.
took a while to spot the guardian, then realised we didnt really have to
start there. Quickly found cache on the stated radius.

enjoyed finding this one with Mr Chillipips, though did not have benefit of listing pics so think we afforded some amusement to locals with our discussions of bearing readings. Mr Chilli enjoyed conversations with local successful fishermen hauling in their catchs of the day and were happy to sign a new log in a cache we found easily once we got our bearings Nice walk in nice bay, and the cooking smells made us hungry. Dropped German GC in and out for visit TFTC

their was a wedding taking place close by but manage to have a good look but now i don't feel too bad that I couldn't find it ( missed by 3 days )
Thanks for checking; will come equipped with replacement on next trip to town...
Worked out the final position while sitting in the car, then able to go straight to it - it was raining after all.

Thank you "Fool on a hill" , I happened to check the cache on New Years Day and you placed it exactly where it was meant to be. But didn't read your log until yesterday so checked it again, and guess what? it was on the ground again! guess I will have to keep a close watch on this one. Or see about a possum trap? LOL hmmm....
