OK was here only quickly as I needed to get the plane...as I was on a work trip, my workmates weren't interested in waiting around for me to couch numbers...therefore I was unable to complete 3 to 6. I will need to comeback again...this is an amazing geological formation. Can't wait to come back to do this again.

A trip to check out all the awesome places in eastern Victoria. Now to the west side. TFTC.
Great to see this place pop up on my map as I was cruising around.
It's quite an extraordinary place both in a geological and historical aspect.
Ended up climbing it twice as I didn't have the numbers to know the spots.

A last minute detour bought me to this place. It was nothing like I expected, it was so much more. I will be coming back, as I arrived here late and had to rush to get required photos and information I really did not have time to absorb the beauty this place has to offer. Mother Nature is truly amazing.

We visited Hanging Rock today and loved it. I used to visit here for family picnics when I was young. The facilities and information are much improved from back then.

Now I'm not too fussed about numbers but I do enjoy celebrating the milestones!

It's been a long time coming but this is my 2000th find

This place has real character, a great history (real and fictional), classic views, great facilities (including a racecourse!) and family friendly. Indeed a great place for a picnic!

We chose a day of magnificent weather, chilly/crisp in the morning, glorious sunshine by lunchtime and cool later in the day for the drive back home

We spent hours rock hopping, taking in the views (we spotted kangaroos hopping down the main straight of the racecourse), exploring the perimeter of the rock and taking heaps of photos

We grabbed a brochure from outside the cafe (unfortunately the Discovery Centre remains closed due to covid restrictions) which helped us in locating the sites for answering questions associated with the earthcache

Very impressed with it all, a return visit in the new year a must

Much appreciation goes to Biggles Bear for the Earthcache and prompt response in granting permission to log the cache. Fav point added

After picking locus Cache and Rex up at 7:30 we hit the road heading for my old home town of woodend, to get my first earth cache, we managed to climb hanging rock, the nice ranger helped us out along the way as signs were missing at lovers leap and pick up a few more in and around the area Smile and get home before midnight Smile
Unfortunately didn’t find Miranda

I had been at a wedding nearby and noticed the sign for the park when I was driving past. The mamelon looked impressive and obviously the Hanging Rock name added to the allure. I headed up and thoroughly enjoyed myself. I didn’t have the guide so had to look around a bit for the right spots although I think I found them all. Hello from Ireland.

Found with Rambolina
Several days into a road trip holiday, Rambolina and I finally made it to Hanging Rock for the second time in a year, with our first trip arriving too late to complete the cache.
It will always be a moving experience for me to come here, and I was delighted to share it with my girlfriend.
We spent around two hours exploring the rocks, with its twists and turns, caves and magnificent views. Highlighted by our own picnic at lovers leap.
I was disappointed that nearly all signage had been destroyed, but atleast all of the broken glass I remember was gone.

Away for a long weekend of caching with Freddo and Four Fun.

Over 300 caches in 4 days means that the logs will be mainly generic.

The main target of our mission was to finish off the Mt Disappointment series. We achieved our target along with other caches as we headed east and then west.

My apologies for the generic logs.

Away for an extended long weekend of caching with Freddo and Team Waldron.
The main target was the Dad's Driving Series, and it was definately a fun exercise collecting the series but with that completed we focused on some other caches and making our way back to SA, very slowly [^]
This was one of the fun stops along the way and a nice walk around the rocks to gather the info

There was some slight drizzle and low cloud so the weather caching Gods were testing us. Just loved this cache pulling us here. I'd been here years ago and seen hanging rocks on signs around here. The greeting was no different. Of course we laughed. Found with Mogni who was smiling with every step at this stage.! Some madness but no blood followed.....

Found as part of my 2017 Alexandra Mega experience. Smile This cache added to the fun and enjoyment of my trek to the east and back from Adelaide. While there were a few thunder storms, there were mainly clear skies and I never saw a snake! [^]Surprised

Thanks to Biggles Bear and **clear skies** from TeamAstro. [^] Cache the planet!

Our first Earthcache!
Beautiful day at the rock on Cup weekend. I had a vague memory of coming here as a kid and it being hot, dry and dusty. Today was gorgeous - we couldn’t stop taking photos of the stunning rock formations, as did many people around us. Really enjoyed this cache for the unique location and the extra focus it gave the trip. Thanks Biggles Bear

After receiving permission to log this one, I immediately thanked the COs for their generosity. I can't stress enough the need for a brochure when you first arrive and pay for parking.

This was one of the sites that I was most looking forward to during our day of travels with no kids, just my bestie and I. This apparently was a place that she had never been and was quite excited to have finally seen the setting of her favourite movie growing up.

We spent a while walking up, down, around, and back again, trying to find the requirements for this EC...it certainly took a lot of work, but it was certainly worth it.

A great day and a great location. Thank you for bringing us here.

Visited and had a great day climbing over the entire top.
Glad that the whole area isn't fenced off allowing you to explore.
The entire family enjoyed exploring the whole area and we returned home with the same three kids, didn't loose anyone down a cave, even though he said he was stuck, nor over the edge.
Was a bit worried that I may not have had the answers correct, however Biggles Bear has given the go ahead to log, which is always a great sign.
Thanks Biggles Bear.

I was last here over 10 years ago! It's one of my favourite places on Planet Earth, but haven't had time to return on my flying visits to Melbourne in recent years. So glad I made the effort this time and hired a car bright and early. I'm pretty sure the visitors' centre has expanded since I was last here.
I could spend at least a week on the rock! I find it endlessly fascinating and alluring; all the faces in the rocks and the crevices that draw one in.
A good set of tasks that motivate thorough exploration of the rock. Many thanks to the CO, this gets a favourite point. Indeed, it is probably my favourite cache of all time!

**Smile # *4528* / Earth Cache # *123* **

The geo wife and I were geo kiddie free so we had planned a trip up to the Macedon Ranges and Hepburn Springs areas. We left after packing a few supplies and were on the road early. It was a little overcast first thing but it turned into a beautiful day to be out exploring. We were a little surprised at the fee of $10 but went in anyway as we both had never been here before. We parked the geo vehicle and set off. It was really interesting exploring these rare Victorian rocks. Such massive force and interesting geology. Answers sent to the CO an photos attached.

01-Aug-16
This has been our cache closest to home for quite a while now.
Anyway, the weather was perfect and the time had come to pay it a visit.
We packed for a day of caching in the north west and headed out for a day in the country.
After picking up a cache at Darraweit guim, we headed for the Rock.
We spent the better part of the day here trying to find all the features without the use of the map from the info center. We would highly recommend getting the map because most of the signage has been removed.
With a lot of climbing over and under the rock formations we finally had enough information to log the earthcache. A really fun day that we enjoyed very much. This cache also brings us to our 6000th cache.
Thank you to Biggles Bear for the Earthcache.

At the moment Pfote and me are on a work and travel backpacking trip through the world. After I've spent a full year in Australia Pfote joined me for my second year down here. We will definitely try to collect a lot of boxes and all the special things in every state all around and right through the middle.

We used this weekend to drive out of the city and visit the hanging rock reserve.
Definitely a nice area, thanks for bringing us here.

This was day 23 of our trip out of Sydney touring the southern states of Victoria and Tasmania.

We enjoy doing earthcaches and learning more about how places were formed, some of the history of the area and just going to places that we have never visited before. This was quite a walk on a hot day but we made it to the top and enjoyed the views as well as the variety of rock formations. Thank you for bringing us here.

Out today for a road trip to my old home stretch of Macedon Ranges, and to visit Hanging Rock.

Arrived here after a big morning in the bogs at Wombat, and was happy to stretch the legs and check out this historical spot. I strolled around taking in the info then made my way to the summit. One thing I hadn't thought about here was the view - awesome! Perched up on a rock, ate a sandwhich and tried to spot the property of my late Mother's which I'd say was under 5k away.

Amazed the amount of foreign tourists here, yet I grew up in the area and never came here. Thanks for geocaching hey?

Thanks Bigglesbear for another fantastic cache from the legends of this game. I really enjoyed exploring around here and taking in the history. Loved that Mad Dog Morgan was from around here, the movie with Dennis Hopper is a classic.

Thanks for the cache! #2800 Will return with a fave!

Travelling around Australia and we are currently staying in Woodend.

Well with fine weather forecast we decided to head out to Hanging Rock and Mt Macedon.

Wow what beautiful scenery, and some great history shared with us too. It wasn't an easy day with this walk being too tough for Mrs Felix to complete and turning back but Mr Felix soldiered on to gather all the info.

Logging this cache with owners permission. Have added a few pics of our visit.

A truly rewarding caching day. Big Grin

I have visited Hanging Rock a few times (cream tea at the café is worth the drive on its own) but hadn't been aware of the Earth Cache here. Had great fun as always clambering over, under and through the rocks and visiting all the points mentioned. Took a while to find a couple of bits of information (almost gave up) but got there in the end. Logging with permission. TFTC Biggles Bear

I first saw the trailer to "Picnic at Hanging Rock" 40 years ago while living in another country.
Today I made it to this mamelon with ThePacgirl and TheSnoopy for our own picnic at Hanging Rock.

It's a lovely area to visit and explore.

We headed to Melbourne for a week of exploring, relaxing and a touch of caching, and today headed out to grab a few, and this one was next up on the list Smile What a fantastic part of the world this area is! We headed in today not with any goals, but to just explore the area and see what we discovered! We spotted this EC and decided to give it a go, and headed up into the rocks Big Grin We soon arrived at the infamous Hanging Rock, and grabbed a pic before heading up and playing around in the rocks some more Big Grin We soon made our way up to the top, and gathered the measurement we needed and were soon off to calculate the fall height and after some more exploring, we found ourselves back at the information centre, crawling through displays and reading up on the history [^]

Being international Earth Day micaparamedic and I decided to try our luck with some Earth caches to celebrate.

It turns out this is the first time that we both have visited this fantastic park and we really enjoyed the area both for the geological features and also the great scenery and history.

The map we collected led us a bit astray but we managed to fulfil all the requirements with a bit more walking and have received permission to log.

Many thanks Biggles Bear for a fun earth cache in an excellent location and even the name. ;_) A favourite point from us.

Pictures coming.

On International Earth Day, Spook and I decided to head to the Organ Pipes National Park and to Hanging Rock to visit the five earthcaches available there, and to celebrate our planet. After completing the tasks at the Organ Pipes National Park, we headed to Woodend to have lunch before going on to Mamelon. Neither of us had been to Hanging Rock before and were pleasantly surprised. We explored the Discovery Centre and then made the climb to the summit completing tasks as we went.

Thanks Biggles Bear for the earth science lesson and bringing us here.

`yebo biggle bears

what a day to hike up hanging rocks, ohhhhh we had too much of that fabulous grape juice the evening before and toay it was grey and miserable (not only in our heads)

maybe because of that, we decided to scramble up the hill and soon admired the rock formations along the steep hill, huffing and puffing up along a stream of others, many families around Smile

we gathered the information after we found a map , it took about 30 min to get it, but alas the chill helped us to get a clearer head...

anyhow, it had been fun, it had been good, it had been interesting

Today took on a life of its own.
I arrived at the park thinking this would be an easy earthcache. It certainly seemed it from the cache page. All those numbers next to the things were in the information book. Once I got my hands on one of those I realized my error. So there was nothing for it other than to go for it. I mean the park fee was $10 so I might as well get my moneys worth.
So I set off having circled those numbers I was after and walked up the path. I chose the steps over the ramp way and ended up at the 1st task place very quickly. Following the track around I made it to the top. I have to say Im pretty stoked that the most problematic thing I came across was the heat. It was 30ºC today and usually its my feet or my knees that give me grief.
Had a few issues up the top as either things have moved or the arrows are missing, so had to kinda guess a few spots for elevations etc but all within common sense.
Boy oh boy was the view amazing up there. I dont think I could EVER get enough of that. Oddly I was able to hear a police siren from somewhere in the flat. Not very serene.
So hoofed it around to get the rest of the data and went back down.
Got myself an icecream and a postcard from the shop (and a birthday present for a mate) and went off to Gisborne to cache there before heading home to clean up before my event this afternoon.
What a lovely spot. I had no idea it was so close to home. I love spur of the moment weekends.
Thanks for the cache Biggles Bear and it was nice to see you at my event this afternoon too. Smile

With permission. I had a laugh at my own expense when I checked out the details before we headed off to Hanging Rock. In 2012 I attempted this cache but had forgotten to print out details. So after helping at the schools orienteering champs at Hanging Rock I headed up top to the supposed geocache site. I ventured no more than 75m or so from the GZ but what an exciting 75m. Down rocky channels, leaping from tor to tor, exploring every bit of a jumbled area. Coming back to one jump I realised it was now uphill and was a real stretch - no other way out so discovered the gap issue was all in the mind.

This time was much easier although not without its issues as a surprising number of the informational signs are gone. Fortunately it was possible to guess locations at the northern end. However, Lovers Leap being bereft of a sign needs care not to go too far! The Park Ranger said that vandalism is the cause and that funds are not available to replace the signs.

Thanks Biggles Bear for two very enjoyable and very different outings.

A good attempt made by Crazy Creels and Emma's JAM. We were at the Rock for a market and decided to do this cache with Emma's JAM. We got as far as taking the photo under the hanging rock (5) when one of the members of Emma's JAM started feeling light headed and threw up. It put an end to geocaching for the day and we slowly made our way back down the hill. Love the information you provided about the rock formation and we met some geocachers from Ireland while we were up there who now live in Australia.

We're staying in a gorgeous circa 1850's cottage in Hesket for the weekend for our 21st anniversary and made Hanging Rock our first port of call for the weekend as it was the reason for choosing this spot for our weekend away. We had watched the DVD Picnic at Hanging Rock the night before which set the scene for this magical place. There really is something about this place which is magical in the nice sense of the word! I (JMelb) just feel so peaceful here! (Despite what happens in the story lol)
Anyway we spent nearly 3 hours exploring this lovely place and even saw a Mummy and Baby Koala sleeping separately in a tree about 3/4 of the way up the rock. Smile

Reading through the cache description I realised we would need to calculate elevation and without the GPSr I was worried our plans had just become undone [:o] Thankfully we were able to download an app for the android phone that gave us an elevation readout *Phew* Smile

Great Cache. Was a great day with the kids and the numbers on each of the tasks made it easy to navigate around given this lined up with the map.

Word of caution, you might want to check what was on at the rock before you go. Normally it is quiet, we picked the weekend with the old cars show - must have been thousands there, lots of cars and took quite a while to get in and out. http://www.picnicathangingrock.com.au/

Anyway - good fun, great place, great cache!

After visiting Mt Towrong and Mt Macedon we saved the visit of the Hanging rock as "goodie" for the day. Since we had enough time left we visited the exhibition first where we could find interesting and also needed information. When we started the track with the brochure we quickly realised that the numbers in the brochure are not really exactly placed and we had a hard time to find all the spots. But this brought us to interesting views with the rocks and the farmland.
We enjoyed the time at the rockdespite it was quite hot between all of these. Tnaks to the Biggle Bears fr setting this on up!

I had a small day of caching planed to today to make sure I had a good number of caches on this once in 4 years caching day. I noticed the EarthCache here at Hanging Rock and decided it was worth the trip into the park to collect. The walk was a big one for me. I took it slowly and had many stops, but I made it in the end. There were a few visitors on site today, including a large group of students, who did rather detract from the silent mystery of the rocks, but on the plus side, also made it very difficult to get lost. Thanks for the cache Biggles Bear

This certainly had us a bit confused in a few places as we found it quite difficult to find all the locations. We really should have visited the discovery centre before heading for the rocks I suppose. An interesting area with some amazing rock formations and very spooky on this misty rainy morning. Email sent but photo to be added when I get home. Thanks Biggles Bear

Thankyou for a great search. I live not far from here and have been reserve numerous times, but apart from walking the tracks never paid that much attention to the datail of the rock and its formation.

Wss a good way to reach my 40th cache, and my first earth cache.

Well what can I say, I've reached 500. That has come about quickly. Some months ago when i started to play, I didn't realise I'd be having so much fun. And what better way to celebrate the 500 than to do a cache like Mamelon by Biggle Bear.

After heading down the wrong highway, and backtracking a fair bit we arrived at the car park about midday. We had a bite to eat at the sit down cafe, we then went on search of the clues.

What a wonderful walk. I have never been here before, but I have been close, but this place is amazing. I loved it. Thanks BB for such a great Earthcache.

A fantastic caching experience. We first went on Saturday the 5th but stupid me didn't write all the questions down first and due to a lack of mobile coverage I couldn't them through the iPhone app. Thankfully we were staying in the area for the weekend and made a return journey on Sunday to answer the questions and climb the rock enjoying the many many stunning views throughout the climb. I was a particular fan of the 'waterfall' (well the water drops anyway) and standing below it while singular drops floated down from above was a great experience that I encouraged some nearby kids to experience as well.

My first earth cache and definitely one that's going into the favorites.

Cheers

We arrived at Hanging Rock and found many people exploring this wonderful place today. We headed straight for the summit walk after picking up a brochure and decided to take the summit walk, straight to ground zero. We took the stairs and took our pics at the rock as many people walked by. We then continued straight up to the summit and H was struggling with the steepness of the mountain. We did our required tasks, found the right places but were truly blown away by Lover's Leap - what a location. We may have visited Hanging Rock even if it weren't for geocaching (I think I can remember coming here when I was little) but we would never have been able to experience a view like that at Lover's Leap without this great game. Our thanks to Biggles Bear for setting up such an awesome Earthcache. Logged with permission.

Easy find in a lovely area

Friday is a good time to visit the Rock. The morning was fine and warm and with barely a breeze we began the ascent.
I grew up within 10km of here so this place has always been familiar to me. Even my daughter Miranda was named
after the Picnic film.
We hadn't been back in a while but easily made the climb gathering in the information en route.
Thanks for the quick confirmation too Biggles Bear.

It has been a while since I logged an earthcache but they always add something
special to a walk and even though I am not as fit as I used to be I had no trouble
at all on the ascent.
Great views as always.
Thanks for the cache Biggles Bear

Cant believe I could find the actual engraving until I returned to the website and saw other entries. Nor could the 6 others in our group. It must have been the unexpected heat! Sad to see anoth plague with T Scott on it - more recent and only 3 years old. I dont know the story but have added a photo out of (I hope) respect.

We wanted to come here for a while as friends had recommended a visit ("I'm sure there's also one of them geo-things for you, there's got to be...!)
Right they were. What a great park. Hanging Rock definitely deserves an Earth Cache. Had lots of fun climbing all over the place and testing the new gps.
Thanks for the quick log approval,

we climbed the rock and had the picnic at the end. Sent off our answers and got the go ahead to log as found. Be aware the map provided is not the most accurate.
Thanks for the walk and the challenge.

What a fabulous day! The walk around was beautiful and the cache made a family day out even more exciting! Had fun finding all of the parts and tried to match them up to the map from the information centre. Although we did not find the map that acurate so just use it as guidelines. Thank you for such a great day. TFTC

We were to go camping this weekend; however it was a tad wet for my liking so we decided to visit Hanging Rock instead. Righto - jobs on then - now what caches are around? Ahhhh! Ohhhh! Yeah!!! EARTHCACHE! Our favourite type! So it's in the car and off we go! Arriving just before midday we decided to have lunch in one of the available shelters out of the rain allowing us time to work out where we had to go and to plan our ascent. The rain made the rocks a little slippery, however we had visited all the required points in short order and were back down in record time just before another torrential downpour. Not quite sure how the young ladies going up went as we passed them coming back down - several had high heels on!!! Probably not wise in slippery weather...
I must admit that this cache was very enjoyable. We enjoyed the walk immensely and even 9yo GeoSam didn't complain (very strange indeed!). To top it off we all learnt a little bit about the history of the area.
Highly recommend this one if you are up for something a little different. We also managed to grab another 4 in the area before bad light forced play to be abandoned.
Thanks BB for a great day out!

Found this one after many cries from Geowife to stay back, dont go so close to the edge, your trying to kill us all, fell on deaf ears for the rest of our party. After shegave me a good hiding, i promised not to do it again (i snuck in a few more rock, cliff scrambles) and set about finding the remaining clues.
It was a great day out and enjoyed this one immensely.
