The bridge is collapsing and permanent barriers have been placed for hundreds of metres to stop people entering.
Therefore the cache is inaccessible.

Caching my way to Wagga Wagga for the Australian 3 day orienteering champs. Foiled by the fence on my first approach. The grass was too wet to crawl under, so walked around and climbed over the gate (despite the signs saying no entry). Quickly found. TFTC.

09-Jun-17
It appears GZ is now fenced off by a barbed wire fence due to the danger of the bridge losing bits. Might be worth a check nad relocating it. Will log TB Centralised as it is near the old railway trestle bridge.

04-Jun-17
Cows were bemused as only they can do.
Watch out above although we survived.

Access to this cache is questionable but it's probably a case of enter at your own risk. You wouldn't want be standing under the bits that have already fallen and the fence protects cattle and humans. Too bad if you're a duck. Thanks again The Farmers 5.

Another good find while driving / walking around the area today.
Had a great time going from cache to cache.
Thanks for the fun!
SL

No issues getting to the cache.
The fence is to keep the cattle out.
Gate installed to give easy access to the area.
Cache in good condition.

Heading north for the Alice Springs Event at Easter we explored Gundagai and surrounds using geocaching as a guide and picking up a few caches on the way and this was one of them. An easy find. Thanks The Farmaer 5 for our tour of Gundagai, we enjoyed the locations we visited.

Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache for our enjoyment.

Thanks for placing this cache The Farmers 5. This is number 1452 for us now.

Suscoe was heading down the highway steadily subtracting the KMS to home.
We decided to pick up a few along the way as it was pretty hot and the car was cooler than outside.
We enjoyed getting off the highway in some places and exploring the country a little more.
It was in the high 30's while we were here.
No one much about in the streets and parks.

Thanks to The Farmers 5 for this cache.

What a brilliant old reminder from days gone by.
If only the timbers could speak.

I was going to post a DNF, but the story is more of an aborted trek around GZ, hindered by a frozen GPS map (only occurs 5 or 6 times per caching day, nice one Garmin) and the 2 tonnes of Forbes cherries I ate yesterday.... we had to retreat to MacDonalds for personal reasons.... given the damp squishy area, the 4,338 waterlooged cow pats between the car and where GZ seemed to be and the recent snakes log spooking my buddy - we decided to not come back.

Always a delight to see these trestle bridges still standing (just) - they make an impressive impact on the landscape and of course deserve a cache as well! SL at 12.47pm on our tour of Gundagai as we make our way along the Hume to Yass today. No sign of the GC placed here in January, so suspect it is in the bottom of someone's caching bag! #3683 TFTC The Farmers 5 and now we must check out the National School monument.

#1738 On my way from Canberra to Albury for a few days caching. Stopped in Gandagai where all the rivers and plains were overflowing. I also bumped into StrangeTrousers who was also caching for the day. This historic area was very green and muddy. Its amazing where geocaching can bring you. Signed log and replaced. 2234 8 of 17 today

I felt like getting out of town today, so I cast my eye over the geomap to spot a likely target & settled on Gundagai. After all the rain, the hills are a lovely shade of green & there was plenty of water in the rivers. It also wasn't cold, so apart from the occasional light shower, it was pretty much ideal conditions. Being Sunday, Gundagai was a bit on the sleepy side.

These old bridges are in poor shape & are due to be demolished. It will be a shame when it finally happens as they are so much a part of this town.

I caught up with The Skype at this one. I had met him earlier at Jugiong. An easy find. Grabbed a TB.

29-Mar-16
My cars gps tried to take me over the bridge! Oops. GZ was nice and in the shade. I disturbed a heap of crickets on my approach. They were pinging off all over the place. Such fun!. Cache was found in good condition. Tftc

24-Mar-16
What a beautiful old bridge. I'm so glad to see it's still standing, even if only just. I suspect in the coming times the safety boffins will have their say and it will eventually be pulled down, removing a magnificent part of Australia's history - what a shame! Anyway, about the cache. I parked on the road and walked the short distance to GZ, paying attention to a few areas before locating the obvious hide. I left a Geocaching NSW geocoin behind which I had picked up in Victoria yesterday. Happy travels!

24-Mar-16
Great find in the dark. Very impressive old lady. Great history lesson. Tftc

10-Mar-16
Camped nearby, so when it cooled down a little set off on a bear - oops, cache hunt. I was sure I had told Little Red Riding Hood (aka my GPSr) about the caches in this area, but she feigned ignorance, so I relied on Sam(sung) who directed me to the GZ. Once there I scouted around and soon had cache in hand. T tb LN SL TFTC

Found 27/12. I remember driving across this bridge many years ago - I can still hear the rattle of the planks as you drove across and wondered how much more it could take with increased numbers of trucks. Thanks for the history The Farmers 5.

28-Dec-15
Tfc great story.

Nice bridge. Amazing that they built it that way just in case it floods. Doubt I'd drive across it in a flood! TFTC

My second day on a caching road trip for the Mega Event next weekend. I was up bright and early to start caching again.
That's a long bridge! The longest I've seen before this was Macarthur Bridge, Camden NSW. It is approximately 1Km long.
Thanks for the cache.

02-Nov-15
A quick walk to find this one in the humidity and flies. Such a shame that they've let the bridge deteriorate so much, but I suppose there is no financial imperative to maintain it.

Thanks

My grandad and I found this cache while on our way to Albury for a small caching trip. This was our last find for the day, because it was getting dark and we wanted to arrive at Albury - and it was great! We enjoyed looking at the old bridge and surrounding landscape. There were a herd of cows nearby as well. The search for the cache took some time but it was a good hide. We were wondering if this cache gets flooded easily!

Our thanks to The Farmers 5 for taking us to this historic structure!

4201. A wet day at work meant a trip down the Hume for some caching.
A little damp under foot and after checking out the bridges, a quick find followed. Only cow muggles out in the rain today!!!
Thanks The Farmers 5 for the cache and the history lesson.

21-Apr-15
Find 11 on a trip down to Wagga Wagga. Stopping in Gundagai on the way to find as many caches here that I can. A wonderful example of wooden trestle bridge engineering. It is a real shame to see how delapidated the bridge has become. Another quick find, thanks Farmers 5.

13-Apr-15
What a fantastic old bridge this one is, it looks like it's just hanging in there, pitty there is no funding to restore it.
Thanks for showing us this historic structure and for the cache.

I was on a day trip from Tumut to Gundagai this morning Smile
There were a lot of caches with hiding dates way back in 2009/10.
Surely I had visited Gundagai sometime in the last five years !! [:o]
Hmm !! Obviously not Razz

Today I enjoyed a tour of the towne finding these 'mature caches' Smile
The trestle bridge looks as I remembered it last visit.

And after a short stroll, the cache was an easy find Big Grin

Sun almost set so track to GZ was getting difficult to navigate, especially through the many grazing cows curious enough to check me out while I searched for the cache. Quick find before they got too close.

11-Mar-15
Gotcha! And to think they even considered demolishing the bridge is amazing. Thanks

11-Mar-15
We actually found both caches now at GZ! The last entry on one of the logs was March 14. Good luck to the next hunters and thanks

TFTC. Nice easy one and CIH very quickly. We are on our second trip to Gundagai and will try to find the caches we left unsearched a month ago.

We arrived at the new free camp in Gundagai and got ourselves set up, soon after our friends FelixII who also hale from WA pulled in. I had already discovered some there were some caches here we had left from our last brief visit so we decided to spend the rest of the afternoon seeking them out. I noted that this particular cache required maintenance and had a suitable sized box in the Landcrusier BUT it was flouro pink! Thank goodness for Dave who obviously is super prepared, in the blink of an eye he had our container camouflaged and stencilled. FelixII are real heroes
