Thought this might be a DNL. Bike shoes are not good for this sort of activity. Rigid soles do not make for good grip. The "steps" were just big enough to be able to manage it.
On our way back home along the M31 from one of our regular trips visiting family in Violet Town (VIC). We've never stopped here at Gundagai before (except for at The Dog on the Tuckerbox up the road a little further) as Holbrook is usually our lunch stop but this trip we were keen to finally check the place out and were pleasantly surprised at not just the lovely and well-kept little town it is but the location as well. We will stop here more often that's for sure. We thought this monument might be a good place to stop and get a bit of history. Cache was found on the ground with a broken lid. Unfortunately we didn't have spare sistemas with us (we usually do) so I was unable to undertake a repair but we placed it back as per hint which is actually a dry spot so hopefully it will keep a little longer. For what it's worth, log is bagged and was dry when we signed it after the last few days of rain. TFTC, The Farmers 5.#2034
Cache needs fixing, box is damaged and paper too wet to write on. Thanks for the find
Found easily but it looks like someone might have moved it from its intended place (I left it where I found it).
A couple of nights in South Gundagai to enjoy the town, scenery and serenity, and of course caching. TFTC
On our way to the geo bash we stopped at Gundagai for the night a nice walk in the morning found us at this cache, we found it in the open on the ground so after signing we popped it back into its safe spot, thanks for placing it
Finally we are on our way to Canberra for the GeoBash.Tonight we stopped in Gundagai and once we had set up we hopped on the bikes and toured around town, finishing off the AdLab and finding some caches. We dodged the cattle and the poo on our way to this unexpectd monument. Cache retrieved without difficulty. Thanks for contributing to our holiday The Farmers 5
Found with Nibletricecakes on Day 2 of our Adelaide Leap Day Mega trip.Quickly found. TFTC.
After a day of kayaking on the Murrumbidgee River, I went for an evening walk from the caravan park at which we were staying and took the opportunity to search for the geocaches on the Murrumbidgee floodplain that explored the history of Gundagai. I found four of the five on my list - the wasp guardians launched an assault when I approached the fifth cache and I retreated massaging my wounds. This cache was a straightforward find, being in a place obvious to geocachers and on the coordinates, although I was grateful to have a muggle companion to provide support when I felt I was about to fall. Thank you The Farmers 5 for installing and maintaining this cache, and for providing the fascinating history lesson.
Found on an early morning stroll during my one night stop over en route from Melbourne to Sydney. Lovely and quiet and misty here this morning, with a beautiful golden light illuminating the cache and the residents. Definitely easy enough to find the cache but getting it in hand did take a little bit of effort. Terrific! TFTC
There was evidence of some strong winds yesterday and we found this cache on the ground. We replaced as per hint with a half brick to hold it in place. Hope that this is okay. TFTC The Farmers 5
Today was an absolutely amazing day for geocaching! I woke up early, packed my bag with all the necessary gear, including my GPS and hiking boots, and hit the road. The sun was shining, birds were chirping, and I was ready to take on the world of geocaching.
The first cache I set out to find was in a nearby park, nestled in a dense thicket of trees. As I approached the coordinates, I noticed a fellow geocacher making his way towards the same spot. We exchanged greetings and introduced ourselves, and it turned out we were both after the same monster of a cache.
We decided to work together and started our search, combing through the underbrush, climbing trees, and scouring hidden nooks and crannies. After what seemed like hours of intense searching, we finally found the cache. The feeling of pure euphoria and triumph that washed over us was indescribable. We let out a loud scream of "*FTF*!" (Even though it wasn’t), high-fived each other, and took a celebratory picture.
That was just the beginning of our geocaching adventures. We went on to find several more caches, each one more challenging and exciting than the last. We even stumbled upon a cache hidden under a waterfall, which was both thrilling and refreshing.
As the day wore on, we started to notice a strange phenomenon happening around us. Every time we found a cache, we felt a surge of energy and power that we couldn't quite explain. We joked about having tapped into "The Force," and laughed as we imagined ourselves as Jedi knights of the geocaching universe.
At one point, we found ourselves lost in a thicket of dense foliage, struggling to find the next cache. As we trudged through the underbrush, we suddenly heard a strange noise. It sounded like a person whistling a tune, but the source of the sound was nowhere to be seen.
Suddenly, a man appeared out of nowhere, seemingly materializing from the trees themselves. He was tall and lean, with skin as dark as coffee and an easy smile on his face.
"Hey guys," he said, "looks like you're lost. Need some help?"
We were hesitant at first, having been taught not to accept help from strangers. But there was something about this man that put us at ease. Maybe it was his friendly demeanor, or maybe it was the fact that we were all geocachers, united by the same passion.
Either way, we accepted his offer and followed him deeper into the woods. He led us to a hidden waterfall that we never would have found on our own, and we were able to find the cache that was nestled behind it.
As we signed the logbook and recorded our names, we turned to thank the stranger who had helped us. But he was gone, vanished into thin air like a mysterious apparition.
As we made our way back to civilization, we couldn't help but marvel at the strange and wondrous events of the day. We had found caches in places we never would have imagined, felt the power of "The Force", and even encountered a friendly stranger who seemed to have some kind of magical powers.
In the end, it was a day filled with adventure, fun, excitement, and unexpected surprises. We were all exhausted but exhilarated, our hearts and minds filled with the thrill of the hunt and the joy of discovery.
This was a day we would never forget, and one that we knew would inspire us to keep exploring the world of geocaching and all its many wonders. We couldn't wait to see what other amazing treasures were waiting for us out there, just waiting to be found.
So if you're ever looking for a great time and an adventure like no other, join us in the world of geocaching. Who knows what incredible treasures you might discover, what random strangers you might meet, or what hidden powers you might uncover? The possibilities are endless, and the rewards are truly priceless.

FOCW Irondale on the way to the Rutherglen Mega event today. We focused on caches in Blaney, Carcoar and Gundagai (where we also stayed the night). All around a great day with some solved puzzles in the map that got found and we ended up picking up 60 cents worth of return and earn cans, found a fifty cent coin, a really decent reusable drink bottle, a ring, and some fresh figs from a tree near Coolac.
This one was cool! Have a FP. The cows were all out. They didnt appreciate us being nearby, we had a lot of rude cow-stares. I did the climb for retreival and replacement TFTC

We were happy the ground had dried out enough to give this cache an easier retrieval. A fun placement for this hide. TFTC and the PT The Farmers 5.

#1147 Good to get out of the caravan park for a nice walk around the place again this afternoon. Stopped by here to make a find whilst taking in the area and reading about the floods at the cairn. Cache was found quickly, log sheet signed and cache returned. Thanks Farmers5 for highlighting this bit of history
Nice placement, cows need to do some maintenance around it though.
Note: Water logged needs maintenance

Quick find in an interesting place. Was not where we expected it to be , but co-ords helped make it a quick find. Log was totally soaked and could not be written on. TFTC
Couldn't find yesterday as it was our first geochaching adventure, after locating more throughout the beauttown of Gundagai we were determined to find today. Great spot!
We couldn't find it the first time but if you look closely you can find it!
Love the history around these cache. Found and signed log. Thank you (also, trackable is going on a holiday! Yay!)
Coming back from Wodonga after adopting a new geohound although he stayed in the car for this one. Ms5 came with me though. Um yeah WATCH OUT FOR THE ANT NEST under the cache!

Another houselike cairn here but it should not be disturbed to find GZ. Look for something nearby that could turn an ankle on the plains of Rohan. TFTC!
Nice spot. Shame the grass around the area is so long at the moment. Nice easy find though. TFTC.
Watch out for the ants. Interesting location. Yes don't build too close to the river. Should have listened to the locals.
Geo-Rabbit found this without too much effort. With the log signed, it was replaced as found ready for the next geo-adventurers.
Thanks goes to the CO for bringing us to this location. Cheers.
PS: watch out for the Bathurst Burs.

Coincidentally the show is on today.
What great timing and a novelty! It seems like a lifetime since I was able to go to a country show. I am so glad COVID has not stopped it.
The school history is tragic and a nice memorial. Thanks for sharing with this cache placement.

We decided to head off to Gundagai for the day to do some exploring and obviously find a few caches. Our first stop was the show grounds to have a look at the showjumping horses. On our way out we stopped at this cache. It is such a tragedy that this happened and that only a couple of years after the school was opened. Thanks for sharing the history lesson and for placing a cache here for us to find. Cache still in good condition.

What a tragedy that this flood and drowning should occur. Cache found quickly. Thanks for this history lesson. TFTC
Still out caching with my bestest buddy, Finalf29 Now thinking of heading home after a wonderful few days.
Well GPS had me bouncing everywhere and with so few likely spots... once it settled down the GPS took us straight there. Great hidey spot. Interesting history. Thanks

I have some work in Sydney and I don't particularly want to catch a plane (or more particularly use public transport) so am driving to Sydney. Don't need to be there until lunch time, so headed to Goulburn for the first night. So why not pick up a few caches on the way?
Still wanted to get one in Gundagai after the DNF at the cemetery so drove under the bridge and up to the memorial - what a disastrous place to put a school. Was wondering where the GPS was leading me but was obvious when there - hopefully the Murrumbidgee doesn't flood again! Cache had water and log was not signable - emptied as much as I could.

What shortsighted idiot approves a school site on a floodplain? That very preventable tragedy leaves me fuming at government incompetence. And wow like nothing has changed on that score...

We are trying to get a badge ,the author ,from project GC for writing found log files of 100 words or more. Once we get this badge we will stop writing this. We are also trying to get badges for adding photos to our found logs .
We started caching in December 2019 and by January 2020 we were hooked. As we are on the road full-time, living in a caravan, caching fits in well with this lifestyle. It is taking us to places that we would normally not have gone. When we move to a new place we also look at what caches are in the area and how many days we will need to be there in order to get the caches we want.
Trackables that we have with us today are:

Day 3 of our trip, starting in Gundagai, we managed to pick up the last of the local caches we hadn't found in the past, with some great ones among them too. After 9 caches here it was time to head across to Canberra for the weekend.
After a little off-road driving after spotting the cairn, we were checking out the plaque. Terrifying stuff.... Oliver found the cache today.... TFTC!

#943 We too drove across the grassy floodplain, dodging the cattle, nonchalantly munching away. Amazing these folk built here, particularly after being warned by the aboriginal people, but also a sad reminder of how quickly a flood can occur. Thanks to 'The Farmers 5' for bringing us here , for the history and another smiley.
Not sure we were supposed to drive across the paddock but we did as we were quickly loosing light. SL TFTCM
Very great geocache. It took us a while to find our way into the field. We loved learning about the history of the old school and the flood. The girls pretended they had horses.
What a tragic story!
Glad to say it hasn't been raining much so I wasn't washed away from my campsite down by the cteek here.
This morning was a cold, calm foggy start but I enjoyed the walk yo GZ amongst the cattle, crows and cockatoos (or should I say cockatiels?) ... there were about 30 white ones flying around raucously looking for the highest perch!
Thanks for bringing me to this interesting place and TFTC!!

Building a town here is absolute lunacy. Looking at the tree line by the river, it's clear that this ground is lower, so there's nothing to stop the waters once they get that high. It must have been a horrifying experience though.
The cache was found without any problem at all, with my daughter doing the honours. Nice spot for it. Thanks for bringing us down here.
