Scrambled through the bush to find this and was rewarded by a decent size cache. Thanks..
at least we found this one with a little bit of luck though. pretty challenging if you don't have a pro GPS device I'd say. TFTC G2
After a quick stop back at the local markets - were back for the final loop. We didnt see any pukekos nearby but a friendly fantail lead us to this cache.
I'm down in Auckland for a geocaching weekend with Yvettetb. She wanted to go geocaching for her birthday and I wanted to get some big numbers to bring my December tally up. Today's plan was to do the walks in Long Bay Regional Park as well as a few others enroute. We walked 18.7Kms and got 30 or so caches. It was a good bit of exercise and quite productive cachewise too. We have recently had pukeko problems with our garden back home. We're on a farm but not that close to the stream but there are regularly 6 or 7 pukekos in the garden. They keep pulling out the young onion plants for some reason. A bit of a bush bash in and around to find our way to gz. I couldn't make sense of the clue - odd one out? I must say nothing struck me as odd. Thanks for the cache in this park
Another quick find at GZ on our walk around the Regional Park. Thanks for bringing us here and TFGC.I took today off to celebrate my birthday and what better way to celebrate than by going geocaching. What a fantastic summers day for caching in and around Long Bay Regional Park with Lis's Crew.
After not being able to do the walk I wanted I came here and spent 1/2 a day navigating about finding caches and clicking up the step counter. Thanks for all the yellow smiles!
A little wander into the bush and some sharp spotting from kellipls made for a quick log. TFTC
PlatSilver and I had no mud issues luckily and the find was quick. Container had some water inside it but logsheet was protected. Fun spot, TFTC!
Very wet and muddy but we found it! The path here is sludge so prepare to slip and slide! Thanks for the cache!
Out and about on our bikes today and finding fun in all sorts of places. Our hero is not great at recognising trees, but he is good at finding caches, so the co-ords must have been good. Plenty of Pukeko around here, with chicks too. They set up a high pitched indignant peeping when we get too close for comfort. Cache is all good. TFTC
After managing to get rid of some muggles (they went to Granny's Bay beach even though the tide was in) we made our way up the track. I left GeohoundandI as lookout on the grass whikst I went in. Found the cache in a nice little nest. Tipped all of the water out and rescued the drowning gorilla. Log was still dry thanks to the super strong bag it was in.
A nice cache for a small milestone. Always great to see one that's big enough for more than just a logbook (although this one was a bit empty, but no worries) and in a good hiding spot too, far enough off the track not to be discovered by accident but not hard to get to. Signed the log, which is in good shape, and tucked it back where I found it. Saw a few pūkeko around today, as well as a lot of other birds. Thanks for the cache, rosmar! (#1500)
Headed on up to Long Bay today after an earlier attempt ended in a blown heater hose, resulting in an overheated mode of transport....then the next 4 hours were spent sorting out a tow etc...... Today was a much more successful trip......
Parked up and took the bikes for a jaunt around the park.....

Found it But the cach has seen better days.
A mouse had nibble a little hole in the bottom of the container.
The hole was just the right size fir ants to get in and make a big mud nest.
I was able to save the log and a gorilla but everything else was to far gone.
Evicted the ants and duck taped the hole.
So it should be good for now.

Was a bit wet and muddy today but 9 year old found the treasure. Log was wet so didn't sign it. Thanks for the hide.
Container is wet and mucky. Didn’t attempt to search it or sign log. Not sure that the location matches the hint, but that might be my misunderstanding. Took photo as evidence, I don’t think this reveals the hide. Lovely view from the bench 150m up the hill. TFTC
Found it. Log book and container are wet and ripped. Might want to check and replace
After a stroll along the beach we had time to have a look for a cache or two before heading back. We made our way up the hill and had to have a good bush bash before we arrived at the GZ were we spotted this well sized cache. Cache had plenty of bugs inside which meant that only one of us would be retrieving this log
Took a little while to find but after a good search around the cache was in my hands! The hint never helped but I'm glad to have found it! TFTC
Last one for this days walk. Sun is coming out now. Nice to see a big container. Container needs cleaning on the inside. Sorry nothing with us today to do this. Thanks for this hide rosmar.
A non-G2 cache in the sea of green? Go on then. After passing a couple of girls on the trail and trying to take a pic of the now emerged view, whilst they tried to photo-bomb it with their own pic, I spotted a likely in point and counted down the distance. Checking as per the hint never helped me and I saw the cache had nestled nicely. Some much and wetness around but added name to list of finders. T F T C rosmar
After the couple of hours of mingling, chatting and 'hosting', everyone dispersed to their own plans and agendas and I had a plan to head to the end of the track and back, caching as I went (of course). I reckon it took me a full 2 hours to get to tracks end, but only 40 minutes from there back to the car. The sun was out, and so were the other walkers but all good and not seen by anyone for any caches, super-stealth mode.
Quite an interesting geocaching day for me today in a number of ways. First up I'm hosting my awarded Celebration Event at Long Bay after the Covid-spoiling one was cancelled at Hobsonville a while back. And that also means I get to attend/find my first cache-type of Celebration event, a new cache Icon. And best of all I get to meet the geocaching community up here in the mi8ghty Auckland area. I've cached here (in moderation) a few times over the last 13 years of living here in NZ, but never lived in the 'big smoke'. That all changed a couple of ,months ago and suddenly this target rich environment is starting to bear fruit (caches).
So, I was out of the house at around 0630 this morning with a wish to get some in before event a clock, which was all good as I managed a few finds early doors. All up today I managed just over 60 finds which was good, and after a misty start the sun attended and all was good, and hot. A D5 cache, meeting some new friends and a decent 15km walk was testament to a successful day, and a Silverdale Burger Fuel for a feed too, awesome-ness was experienced. I even managed to knock off the last few Smile puzzle finals to make my round face beam (geo-icon, not my real face!) T F T C all COs today.

Out at the community celebration event today. This is one of the caches I grabbed while here.
Decided to do a loop with Tramyard to do some caches we both needed and then headed off on a run by myself to get all the caches around the long bay point.
Thanks to all the COs who placed caches here!
Nice spot for a cache!

Bit of bush bashing to get to it but very well hidden. I would suggest waiting until there’s no juggles around as it’s noisy to get to through the trees
Bit of bush bashing to find the cache which is always fun. Cache quite nasty inside with some slugs making it their home. Tftc
Spent far too much time using my head and not nearly enough following my nose on this one. Got into the bush quickly and spotted a likely odd one out which turned out not to be the one. Hinted around in the bush for a little bit more and spotted the cache quickly. TFTC!
On a sunny Sunday we returned to Long Bay for a short walk. We often walked here in 2016 but were still muggles back then. If only we had known what we missed out on!
Here we strayed off path, into the bush and were happy to find a big container with a log for us to sign. Be careful returning to the path, I was nearly run over by a bike. Tftc!

Second visit in Long Bay. Last time decided to skip this part of the park. Nice to be back on not so hot day. Still warm and I enjoyed my Sunday stroll here. GPS bang on at GZ! Thanks! Took TB
Lots of flax here and with a recent injury to the plant I tried to clear the way to ensure doctors orders were followed. Cache was easily spotted once we were through due to size and location. TFTC.
A nice picnic and day out walking for Bennett24, Tinytree24 and Tuolei and we came to this one. We did spot a few pukekos on the way around but no nests which is a good thing as that is not something to mess with.
Some debate from the path - one half of team Tuolei is missing some cornea due a freak geocaching accident involving a flax bush and there were a few to bypass to get to the spot we thought the cache was at judging by the rather excellent hint. Still, the desire to get the cache outweighed the thought of the embarrassment at the eye clinic and and we went for it.
In the end there was a simple enough path in and we found the cache. With one finally big enough to drop a travel bug we also released one back on its way.
Thanks for the cache - saw the old log is a bit worse for wear but the new one is find so all good.

Came over this way today for a morning walk around Long Bay Regional Park to collect more caches for the Hidden Creatures Souvenirs ... and the trek eventually led me here. Nice quick find. TFTC
Some time ago Dragon_Griffin kindly did some maintenance on this cache so it is all good to go. This maintenance is appreciated.
We saw this one had been maintained by the previous finder so decided to give it a go. After finding a suitable place to head off the track we were soon at GZ, such a nice peaceful little spot.
The cache was soon located and is still in good condition and no longer in need of maintenance.
Thanks rosmar for bringing us here.

Fridays are my adventure day with Mr 4 so I decided to take him to Long Bay to do some caching... or 'treasure hunting' as he calls it I was aware that there is a nudist beach at the Northern end so didn't take him that far
This was the fifth find of the day for us. It was a quick find once we got to GZ. I've done a bit of repair work on the cache and taped up the hole so no more bugs should be getting in, and I cleaned it out and put everything into new ziplock bags so it should all be good to go now TFTC!

Cache has been disabled due to damaged container and sodden log book. Will ractivate once we get a chance to undertaken maintenance.
Wow, we found our way through the bush with a little bird railing against us. Maybe we came too close to his nest???
The container was wet, with ants in it. The little note book was rotten, since there ist a hole in the Container.

Exploring Long Bay Regional Park/Reserve and doing some caching along the way. Missed getting this cache on my way in, so made the side trek to grab it on my way back. I was lucky enough to be able to find a slight geo-trail that went through a good path of least resistance through the bush. Container was found easily, right where my GPSr zeroed out. Container has a hole in the bottom, so insides are wet. Replacement log is doing OK, but this might need a maintenance visit. Thanks for the cache!
Aiden29 and I were must have been following in Mikkyp's footsteps, and after a short bush bash we made a nitce quick find. The log was very, very wet so we added new waterproof paper
Made plans today to conquer Long Bay Reserve with merlot58. We ended up following Mikkyp around finding most of the caches along the route. Unable to sign saturated log, so left behind waterproof paper.
Out walking the 100 Acre loop track with three of our grandchildren this afternoon, we detoured off the track to come and let them find the Pukeko's nest. The trees have certainly grown a bit since we made our find. The logbook is a bit damp but they were able to sign it, and we were able to show them our FTF log.
Today it was my very first day at New Zealand and in the afternoon I decided to do a little walk at Long Bay Regional park. And it was a pleasure! What a lovely landscape! But it was funny, because you can find nearly the same in southern England. Only the plants are a little bit different.
But I enjoyed every moment and I' also was glad to pick up 14 caches (out of 20 I tried). Usually my hit ratio is higher, but for the first day in a foreign country (and a 24 hour flight) it was quite okay.
Thanks a lot for all the caches and greetings from Germany.

OUR 1000TH CACHE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No Pukeko's around the Nest today, but did find a Christmas Teddy Bear TB in tis Cache !
Thanks for the Off-Track Cache.

Had to bush bask a bit to get to this one, nearly decided not to but then i thought i've made it this far! So i continued in and dropped off a TB. Hopefully someone picks it up soon. tftc and the little excursion off the trail.
Cute TB witchegurl ! Left it though for someone else .....Added a minion toy ....
Thanks for this off track adventure rosmar !

Schools out for summer. Kiwiscot & friends enjoying an afternoon caching at Long Bay. Unfortunately due to this caches location some of the local fauna has taken a bit of a beating by us geocachers whilst getting to gz. Easy find. TFTC
The West group of rebel98, harisree and Gorby (+ moi), continue on our quest to find a few more Long Bay caches. Many hours have past, but its such a lovely day that what is time?
The GPS had me overshooting GZ, and with the hint was looking about for the potential hide. Gorby was first to spot the cache, and we all converged under the tree cover to admire the treasure within. Loved the hide and hint. I have been looking at google satellite image of the area, some big changes with tracks, tree plantings, and everything is growing bigger. Thanks for the hide

we blindly followed rustynz to this one, as she was keeping an eye on Gps, but.. oops.. we have come bit ahead in the off-track for this one. our lil geo girl was hanging in rusty's hand . rebel98, spotted where to check, with the help of the hint and gorby spotted it quickly. gave a chance to our toddler to reach and get the cache and she got super excited seeing the treasure inside. tftc.
This cache was quite a distance off the trail which I thought was fine. I might have found the cache but it was Rebel98 who spotted the correct tree! It was a neat size cache for little harisee daughter all of about 2 feet tall stretched up to her full height and very determinedly got the cache out of the tree, watched on by a very proud mummy! She was very excited to find some toys that she could carry away! Then we adults did the signing, and we let her put the cache away. Lots of fun had by all.
Spending a Sunday afternoon in long bay looking for some caches. I'm a bit overdue with logging these caches.
Nice cache.
Nice cache.
Easy way and a hard way tonight's one. Took hard way in and easy way out. TFTC!!!
Off the beaten track. Most look odd when people go off trail. Especially a couple emerging again looking very satisfied with themselves.
Found with Onawe after a quick splash at granny's bay to cool off. Mr beconaze got nailed by the biddy bids on the way in to this one. Log & cache was a bit wet
Lots of bidibids and thistles to contend with to find this one - but we persevered and hunted it down. Easy enough once we had battled to the right location. TFTC.
The kids in our team took the cache name all to seriously and we're stalking every pukeko they could find hoping it would lead them to its nest!!
Log wet and falling apart, we signed below a finder from 2012 so some pages missing it seems.

Found while out for a walk with Mrs McMike2012 on Labour Day Monday ... weather forecast wasn't looking that good before we started but it ended up being a pleasant day, albeit with a cool breeze blowing in exposed areas. 6th of 11 caches for the day. Bit of bush bashing required to get to this one but easy enough in the end & soon had it to hand. TN:LN:SL. TFTC. #648 for us.
This is where my day got interesting, i stood around taking fake pictures waiting for some muggles to pass. But the muggles turned out to be nsallis(who's logs are listed as the 6th but it was really the 7th). The rest of the caching day was spent with nsallis (Ned) blitzing the park
Out grabbing the Long Bay series today. The weather is now awesome!! Logged as Team Smilie.
Not too bad bush bashing. Was a little wet.
Find #487. Thanks for the cache. 2/06/2014 12:22

Out caching for the day with Cretti. Little bit of a bush bash following what must have been the previous finders path. Nice big cache which was easy to find. Lots of pukeko's around today.
Signed log as team smiley.
Thanks for hiding.

Out for a day of caching with Lycurgon, had tried to come down to Long Bay a few weeks ago but traffic was horrendous . Much better today thankfully TFTC
Bush bashing not too difficult as its quite open between the plants. No puk's around the cache today!
Following the geocaching trail makes it easier than baching the bush. I hope we're not actually disturbing any pukekoes by going there, because I definetly heard some around me. TFTC.
