Took me a while but finally located the pesky little cache. Interesting architecture at the terminal. Thanks
Good hide - had a local come up and ask me what I was looking for - explained geocaching to him and he was gratful to know why these people were looking around and even in the dark - he was very happy now he knew what was happening

FlyingPigSquadron has landed at Whakatane International! We were planning to fly over White Island, but were told it was too cloudy, so decided to follow Plan B - go caching. QEF under the eagle eye of suspicious neighbour. Great airport - looks like a prototype Maccas! TFTC&H Geckoh
Came across a heard of cows getting driven down the road, unfortunately the motorists in front of me were very unsure how to get past and took simply ages. At least the cache was quick. Thanks
Good quick find today, thank you --- no wasps or muggles today either, just lots of big rain!!
Our long-nosed tweezers are now our favourite geocache accessory:-)

Have checked cache today - it was all in place as it should be but the container has rusted and is leaking.
We have replaced it with a smaller cache that will not rust.
Please take care when retrieving and replacing

This one took us a while to find! Thought we might have to DNF it, but luckily we eventually rumbled it. Nicely done. Many thanks.
logbook changed, little bit of cache creep but it seems to have creeped into a better spot!!
10.45am - Same as, no cows follwed us either, log book was really wet and needs replacing, had a spare snaplock bag in car so replaced, not the ideal time to find this when it was pouring down with rain
Another micro in Whakatane we couldn't find - magnetic seemed an odd thing to have out here by the airport in the middle of nowhere? GPS was all over the place and we looked high and low to no avail. Noone was around and we spent a goof 15 minutes searching??
Missed the last flight out of town so caught a cache instead!! Local cows had no way of following us....T4TC
Took some time..
Found lying in the open eventually.
Used a paf to get help

Very quiet at the airport today so could take our time, though we didn't need it. Nicely placed cache.
didn't take too long to locate - not many cars today. Left a tiny pet rock - a mouse. TFTC
Nice one! Left a 20c coin in the tin, signed the second, drier log that had been left. The original log is a bit damp. TFTC
Clever hide! found it and watched a helicopter take off good fun for the boys of the team
#40, revisited this one, must have hit a flight check-in last time I ventured out to this one....nobody about today.
Those Waimanians must have been there on a very wet day (they sneaked out without telling me).
The cache was fine today - not wet at all

First solo find!
Contents were a bit soggy.....
Turns out those mint tins aren't so waterproof lol

We weren't expecting this placement. A nice quick find for our first Whakatane cache. Thanks.

An interesting airport indeed. Found the cache after a 5 minute search, and we did enjoy the smell of the pines. TFTC.
That terminal sure is "distinctive". TFTC.

Easy find good clues, carried on up the road to visit the castle and watch a helicopter play - cheers Jumboz
Found as part of my three week caching trip from Wellington to Auckland - # 583. Thanks.
The Freezer Mice strike again!!!
On our way home to Hamilton (from Gisborne), and since we still had time for a couple of caches we stopped in at this one.
Proved to be an easy find, although we had to dodge some traffic to make the retrieve.

The cache wasn't in any of the places we initially checked, but perseverance eventually succeeded.TFTC
We have found several caches near airports, but none hidden in quite this unique spot. TFTC, TNLN.
Went to find a few caches today with Morgan but find that Jak had taken the GPS down to Wellington with him and mum. So it was to Google maps to help find the cache and works just fine. This was the 4th of 5 today. Thanks
So what did we do wrong - couldn't find our road to airport but found the cache, just as well we are doing a road trip! Tricky! #729
On my way out of town this morning & decided on impulse to go & look for this cache. Didn't have a GPSr with me but managed to find it just the same. No trades, TFTC.
Retrieved this cache nice and easily after chasing my lost luggage all around the country. Was happy to find luggage and cache!

A quick and quiet find, then a car came past and gave us quite a fright with the noise it made! TFTC.
Loved the airport buildings, we expected to see Noddy and Big Ears up in the Control tower. Paua landed here years ago in the days of "the old tin shed terminal building" on a school flight over Mt Tarawera and a visit to see the Te Mahoe Dam being built....that's a lifetime ago!
