This was cache number three for the day, and what a lovely spot this is. Following the track from my previous find, I soon arrived at the creek. My GPS was telling me I was within 40 metres of the cache and all I had to do was continue in a straight line, however, the creek was steadily flowing and I didnt want to get my feet wet. I ventured around on my side of the creek, searching for any suitable areas for me to cross. I soon found a log laying across the creek which would make a suitable bridge and so I decided I would cross there. Carefully, I placed my feet, one after the other, across the log and wobbled my way across. Now on the correct side of the creek, I began the short walk back down to where my GPS was originally pointing. Once I made it to GZ, I began searching for the cache. This did take me a few moments as there were plenty of possibilities for where the cache could be. After some more searching, I found the cache tucked away in its hidey-hole. I opened the cache to sign my name in the logbook. The logbook was a bit damp but still signable. After signing, I placed the cache back and continued on my way.TFTC

Did I need to walk the plank?? Yep, i think i did, but thankfully, i had my walking pole to balance with. Otherwise, i have no doubt I would have ended up with wet feet. Took me a few minutes to work out were the cache was so many possibilities awesome tree.

The Winter Wombat Of Thunder Adventure #8
A quick adventure "looking for T4s" for my geoson.
Yes, creek crossing. I took my shoes and socks off, and splashed across. WombatOfThunder was a bit more circumspect (see photo). Of course, that meant I had wet feet when I came back to the other side. I already have a bare-foot reputation at my son's school, so climbing the hill again with no shoes? No brainer.
Thanks heaps, Riddell!

Sadly due to recent rains the river is completely full and un passable so couldnt get to the cache sadly. Will have to hike back up that hill again and come another day

*Cache find # 12881.*

Continuing on from the Long Forest Loop, I then headed to a couple over this way, this being one of them.
I first tried to get to this one from the South but realised that there was flowing water stopping me so I headed back up the track and around and down again only to be confronted by the running water once again, at this spot it wasn't too bad though and I was able to walk across the bridge of tree branches that had gathered in one spot and made my way over to GZ.
Once there I started looking around but I wasn't seeing anything that looked like a cache, around and around I went trying to make sense of the hint, in the end I finally looked in the right spot and the cache was found, that was a relief.

We couldn't miss the chance at a bush walk in this wonderful winter weather today. Yesterday had been cold, cloudy and drizzly. Today, the sun was shining and there was not a cloud in the sky. We started at the carpark nearest to Long Forest Loop #1 and made our way around the park - 6.5km in total, for about 2.5 hours and found all 10 caches available to us today!

We'd actually started the multi-cache; Long Forest Loop #2 and the mystery cache; The Hound of Long Forest but we took a detour to find a couple more caches in the hope that we'd be able to loop around later on the walk. The walk downhill was not taken lightly, what goes down... must come back up! When we got down into the valley - the environment is remarkably different to that at the top of the hill. Greener, lushier, birdier? Lovely. Thanks for the cache Riddell.

Disabled for the duration of the Covid-19 crisis.
Although exercise is ok, beaches, parks etc are gradually being closed, and we are being asked to stay home.
The possibility to transmit the virus by surface contact exists, so why take chances?
At the end of the day, geocaching is a game, and we are dealing with a serious Public Health issue.
We need to get our priorities in order.
I believe the responsible thing is to disable all my caches, until the crisis passes.
Thanks.

With plans made weeks ago to make a day of it and geocache, the destination recently changed as did my caching partner. It was the geo wife that kept me company today with the little Na'wals were at school. We made our way to a few places not yet visited on a nice sunny Monday. We had a great day out.

This was a lovely walk in an area that we had been to before but not this far on this track. It took us down a steep hill into the flat lying area with a nice stream trickling along. A duck was enjoying the water here. We made our way over the creek keeping our feet dry and I was surprised that we turned this cache up quite quickly today.

Today we were on one of our travel all over the place chasing smileys with Ausfox; and Neville_devil. We were particularly after higher favourite point caches for the current souvenirs but were also grabbing anything in our path as we were heading to our target caches.
The Long Forrest loop as been on our to do list for a long time so after today earlier events we were looking forward to the walk and hoping the rain would hold off.
As we approached we were only 20 meters from the cache and the was water in the creek. We looked for an easy crossing without getting wet but that didn't look possible so it was shoes and socks off for the cross and an easy find.
Thank you The Riddellers for get us out in the bush for a great walk.

Out for a morning hike as part of a school camp activity. After the geocaching activity yesterday finding caches that were set out my our camp guides, the students were keen to find a real geocache. After gaining permission from our principal who thought it would be an educational experience, we made a stop here by the large tree for morning tea and a group photo. I gathered a few eager recruits and went searching. I finally found the cache, but not before looking at the hint.

With nothing planned for today, it was a quick look around to see what "walks" we could do. This one wasn't too far from home, and the plan was to walk Long Forest Loop and Canopus Circuit in one go. Parking at the Long Forest car park, the total walk was just over 13.5km, taking about 3hrs. Nothing too hard, and some nice scenery and some wildlife to be seen.

This was a cache from a different time, about 8 years from the two loop series we were knocking off today. You can tell by the look of the log book, but still very much in order. Lovely spot down by the river. Thanks.

Found by Aussie Train Driver 11/11/17, find number 1173.
Out for an afternoon walk with the family today and we chose to do the Long Forest Loop track. It has been some time since I have done this walk and (aside from a nice walk in the bush) the new geocache trail provided sufficient motivation to revisit the area!
After completing part of the nearby multi we trekked down the hill to the creek. What a fantastic spot! It would be great to relax in the shade beside the creek and have a picnic.
There was a bit of water flowing so I rather ungracefully jumped across the creek and soon uncovered the cache. Log signed, cache returned, and I was back across with a bit of a splash. TFTC Riddellers!

Grabbing all the caches in the Long Forest Reserve and this was the last one. Only shallow creek crossing today so no need to take the boots off. I had been here before a few years ago as a muggle bushwalker, and it was nice to return. An easy find. I gave the log book a new zip lock bag. All is good with the cache.

Thanks **Riddell**

One cache in one hour. Well that was my experience today hiking in from the car park and not realising the extent of the twists and turns ahead. Very pleasant walk and passing pleasantries with other venturers both ways there and back. Busy spot. Easy find once got over the river 50m from where I approached . Wonder if there is an easier way in. On the way to part two of the Yorick series and this unexpectedly was my first river crossing for the day. More later too! CIGC TNLN TFTC Riddell.

Failed to find this one a few years back, as it seems some floods shifted the container out of it's hiding spot just before my previous visit. So with some time spare and an urge to get out of Melbourne, I took the short drive to Long Forest. It's a pretty easy walk in from the nearest carparking spot (Long Forest Road and Sundew Avenue) and it started to lightly shower just as I approached the creek.

The creek was empty on my last visit in spring/summer, whereas my visit this winter uncovered a wide and flowing creek. I didn't want to muck around in bare feet, so found a few trees overhanging the creek and managed to monkey my way up one and across another to safety on the other bank. An easy find once at the tree, made my way out of the Forest via a different route to get a sight across to eastern Bacchus Marsh.

I was in the area today, so popped in to check this cache. Its all good and where it is supposed to be. Oddly enough, we stumbled across the long ago muggled Comadai 1, and Comadai 2....... There is no way they got to their current location accidently. Definately muggled eons ago. Will contact CO directly, as their location deserves to hold a cache, and maybe riddle wants to fix one of them and leave it there.

The weather looked to be clearing up as I visited C@W's cache nearby, so I figured I'd have a go at bagging this one before heading back to the car. My approach from the south along a part of the dry creek made it more of an adventure, though not as much of one as it might be during a wet Spring.

The cache was a nice easy find, exactly as described in the CO's post, which I read much later.

Thanks, Riddell... now, is that another cache I see on the map, a couple of klicks to the north?

Grabbed this one today while planning a hike for some Scouts. Initially could not find it, was was starting to think it would be a DNF. Walking in circles looking under, above, around, and I literally tripped over the hide. Something moved that looked solid. A bit of shuffling objects, and there it was. Thanks for making it hard, but not too hard. Cheers.

Find # 2608
Date 3rd Feb 2013
Time 10:23 AM

Well, its February already and a weekend, time to again get together with my caching partner in crime SedgwickDave. It looked like the weather was going to be perfect yet again so the plan was to head west towards Lerderderg State Park, picking up as many caches as possible along the way including many higher terrain caches then we were used to. We started bright and early due to the extra distance from home for this destination and the fact we needed to be back home by 6PM for me to play basketball.

This one was a bit of a longer walk, but well worth the effort. It was a beautiful time of the day, slightly overcast, so not too hot. A nice little spot to stop for the search. It didnt take too long and the cache was found, very well hidden.

Thanks to Riddell for the cache. TNLN.

Found @1021 #2388
Well is was the start of another caching month and this time I was super eager to get out caching and this time heading further west then before with the intention to tackle some bigger terrain caches. Today's run was focus on the Long Forest & Lerderderg state park where there were a number of quality caches found. As usual was on the trail with Ahomburg who was happy to start extra early to allow for the travel time. An epic run which ended with the insane "Acts of Cord - The Pinnacle", a cache I will never forget and the best gelati ever tasted afterwards. The self imposed 3 cache type rule also achieved with the total number of finds at 19 today.

Well after a nice trek into GZ and the crossing of a smelly dried creek bed we at finally arrived at GZ. The search began and well after a good 5mins the hint was checked and even this did not immediately show me the light. It was a few minutes later that a spot I had look at but not well enough finally reviled the cache. A pleasing and fun hunt. Also a fresh log so extra sweat.Big Grin TFTC The Riddellers

All good to go.
Please ensure the cache is put back EXACTLY as you found it.
Spoiler alert: there are two rocks and a piece of wood holding the cache.
Replace them in the same order that you find them.
Hint still applies.

18-Jan-13
Does an accidental find count? I will take it as a find, mostly because there was no writing material to record the find, I was mountain biking and almost rode over it, after inspecting the find, I thought that just maybe the weather had dislodged it from it's hiding place.

I will return there in the next few days and leave behind a pen or pencil along with my details, if you are planning a walk in the area it will be worth it for the terrain is wonderful, apart from the snakes, so come with water and a sense of adventure.

Those that lived and worked in the area when it was first settled had a very hard life, scratching the very surface for survival you might say and there is still evidence of those days gone by as you will see if you walk the area.

Incidentally the "Coimadai "creek started life I believe, eons ago as a lava flow, there are heaps of wild life and yes some hiking, if in the area, also have a look at the old cemetery on the old Bacchus Marsh Road, that alone speaks volumes of the past.

A big fat DNF on my behalf for this geocache, the walk from Pump It was OK - a bit taxing in parts, I wished the paths would point straight between caches Smile But that's so you can go up and down the hills. Once at the ground zero tree, I checked the main obvious gap in the base of the tree in fine detail, couldn't find the container up or down or buried under the ton of leaf litter than I removed. Checked three other tiny holes/gaps around the perimeter of the tree but still didn't pick out the cache.

Spent quite a while looking, checked other nearby spots even though the GPS clearly pointed at the big obvious tree. Rechecked many times and never found the goods. I'm not terribly bummed about the whole thing though as the walk was really nice, I had the whole forest to myself it seemed. Some pretty woodlands and I think I would enjoy returning once more if I knew the cache was still there.

Found @ 2110 Hrs Cool...

A cool night to be out, but the moon provided enough light that we could walk with relative ease... This one had been looking at me for far too long & it was great to be able to put it to rest with Danlop23... An absolutely beautiful area with the smell's & bush sounds (in between me panting like a dog on a hot day)... Crossed the creek (walked back with dampish shoes)...Smile Maybe we should have come in from the other side Wink

Thanks for bringing me here Riddell...

Found last night with SnapHappy1 and company around 21:15hrs. It was a really dark night and reasonably cool. Went down the steep path near GZ to find that the river was flowing! We made it accross with out wetting our shoes too much though. Overall it was a reasonably easy walk out. TFTC

A very pleasant spot to visit in my lunch break. Walked for about 1km then as I came down the hill heard the sound of frogs then of the creek. The creek was flowing quite merrily due to recent rains. I was prepared to go into the drink but didn't need to thanks to a makeshift bridge which I was able to scramble over. The cache was soon located and was in excellent condition. Lo signed, nothing taken nor left and now I'm on my way back. This was a great interlude in my day and I'm now ready to face this afternoon's punters. Thanks Riddellers.

Saw some wildlife (roos) Thanks Riddell always nice to walk in this area.

Found it. I started from the car park across the road from Sundew Ave. I did notice that the track was not the Happy Valley track, But I kept going anyway, then I cut across country and eventually found the right track, and life got much easier. Went on to the cache and then came out by the right track, which brought me out at a car park about a 100 m further along the road. So it was exciting, interesting, beautiful, and tiring. What an ordeal!
I obviously took a wrong turn somewhere, as the path I was on was leading me well away from the cache, and then disappeared!
So away I went. Great weather for some bush bashing anyway.
I know how the Quiet Plodder felt.
No less than 4 creek crossings, I felt a bit like Macgyver myself. LOL.
Finally I found GZ, and soon had the prize in hand. Woohoo.
Now all I have to do is find my way back to the car.
Luckily I found the right path and was soon back to the car.

Well, thats my walking done for the day. 1 hr 15 mins in and 45 mins out.

I probably approached this cache via the 'harder way' following the Creek from a southerly direction on no defined track - it was a very long walk from Bacchus Marsh (but there you go). The GPSr did say 'go that way' once I was inside the nature Reserve boundary, so I did and had an enjoyable bush bash through this gorgeous example of Mallee Forest. I rarely heard a human sound (apart from my huffing and puffing) and was treated to an orchestration of bird sounds ranging from Rufus Whistlers, the skit-skat of Wrens, Bellbirds with their clipped thrip and some Rosellas with their excited chatter. There are rocks aplenty for the geologically interested that included some sublime Rose Quartz and the mauves of Sandstone. There were examples of abandoned (long ago I'd suggest) farm equipment - how did they get here? And of course, you see all about you those fine ecological survivors the Bull Mallee Eucalypts with their gnarled trunks and scrooge like shape. I understand some stands in this Forest have not been touched by the lick of fire for hundreds of years. Approaching GZ the GPSr indicated 'go over that Creek son'. A rather modest waterway for sure but I loathe (wimpy you could say) getting my feet (foot?) wet so I did a MacGyver (showing my age) and made a very pathetic bridge of tree trucks to cross the whole 1 metre (just) wide Creek. A brief scurry about and the cache was found. Appears in OK condition though rather bereft of goodies/trinkets etc. Filled in the log, passed back over my 'magnificent' bridge and opted to the follow the 'real' tracks back to the main road and eventually home. Had a terrific time walking to this cache which is located in a lovely spot, well worth the effort. Thank you to 'The Riddellers' for the cache and its location. TNLN.

Enjoyed the walk to this cache and what a delightful spot!! 6Hinemoa2 and I parked and took off without reading the directions, soon finding ourselves running out of track. From there, it was through the bush until just before the cache, where we found the track that, had we read the instructions, would have taken us all the way. But, it was a great little walk and, spider webs?? Boy, did we each get a face full of those! Never seen so many in one kilometer of bush! Loved the old farm machinery and the big dams, full of water and the close encounter with the swamp wallaby. A quick hop, step and a jump over the beautiful little stream and the cache was in hand. Needless to say, we took the easy way back, in spite of the initial uphill trudge. Many thanks Riddell, for a thoroughly enjoyable journey.

Last cache for the day walking and working with Bristlehound.
Took the 'short cut' through the bush following the compass direction not the written ones provided. We encountered a bit of everything- rusty old machinery, scrub, a wallaby, hills, rubble, water and finally we took it in turns to clear our path of any spiders and their webs.
All good fun especially when we reached such a lovely spot. I'm sure the locals use this when their is water around.
Bristlehound wisely worked out our way back to the car along steepish paths and we heafded back to home after a wonderful day in the bush.

It's been a while since we tried this one only to find it had been muggled. Great day today for the walk and I was not suprised to find the creek flowing at the bottom. It was a couple of strides wide but managed to get over without getting too wet. The cache was quick to find and it was then a slower walk back up that hill.

I did raise a sweat, but I didn't take a very easy way in Smile When faced with a choice of track, it seems I invariably take the hardest one - and not on purpose! Approach eventually made from the west, and quickly found in the obvious place (but not where the GPSr wanted me to be...) Enjoyed my day immensely, I need to do more bush running!

Find # 1388 @ 15:55
I, like Muzza, decided to take an alternate and more direct route to gz. I turned right at the fence post with the green paint and followed the fence line and some animal paths to the head of a small creek (S37 39.719 E144 30.093) then walked the dry creek to the bottom of the valley. It was much more interesting than following a vehicular track. Once at gz, the cache was an easy find and I spent some time looking around. The trek down to the creek led me to a small waterfall (dry) with the rock remains of a small hut or cabin. This certainly would have been a great place to live, providing the creek flowed enough to obtain and store drinking water. This small waterfall is about 188 metres from gz (S37 39.674 E144 29.928)
I took the creek back up to the carpark. I really enjoyed this cache. BTW, there was no pen in the cache and I didn't have a spare to leave so make sure you bring one with you. TNLNSL Thanks to The Riddlers!

The track shown on my GPS didn't seem to correspond with the actual track I was walking, and when it started to head in the wrong direction, I went bush and followed a gully down to the creek, then along it to GZ. The cache was found nice and quickly. I took the track back to the car and was surprised at how different it was to that in my GPS.

Thanks for the cache, and an enjoyable walk through the area.

Found by Mary & David at 0910. Planned to do this one early in the day before it got too hot. Turned out to be a good idea, as the climb back up from GZ was steepish but mercifully short. Disturbed a wallaby near GZ. Would be nice to see some water down there. Our thanks to The Riddellers.

While attending the Merrimu Christmas Event we took Bushfire's suggestion and popped over to pick this one up quickly. Ha, Ha!! First, we went off in what turned out to be the wrong direction, although we got quite close there was just bush between it and us. OK, back to near the start and off again, this time obviously the right track, cos after a walk the cache was only 20 mtrs away. Only problem, we were at the creek crossing mentioned above and it was flowing freely today. Off came Mrs' shoes and across she went (no need to get two pairs of feet wet!!). Soon she had the cache in hand, signed the log and back safely on dry land. Well, not so dry, the rain had started again! Back to the Event, but so late that everyone except lone Trunks'nsuch was gone (rained there too!). TNLNSL\ Many thanks for the mini adventure in the bus, Riddellers, enjoyed it.

Um, maybe the weather today was not the best choice to tackle this cache. I knew it was about 1km or so from the parking place, but had no idea I was going to be up hill and down dale. Maybe I should have looked at the terrain rating too. Whoops.
Anyway, apart from struggling up the hills (4 times, 2 there and 2 back) this was a nice walk on a very warm day. The scent of eucalyptus was in the air but there was nary a breeze so it was almost cloying. A few roos bounded out of the way as I made my way to GZ but there was no birdlife at all that I could spot and the ground was very dusty and dry. I kept a special eye out for snakes, but I think they were shading from the heat today too.
At GZ the cache was an easy find (thank goodness) and I took more than a few moments to rest up before heading back. No drama on the way back but I did find a different track that I should have used in the approach. When the choice came to left or right, I chose left and that wasn't the cleverest apparently.
Still I got back to the car and collapsed in a heap in the air conditioning downing lots o fluids to replenish the ones I had left behind.
Took nothing, left nothing.
Thanks The Riddellers for this cache today. It's a very nice area for a stroll but today I think I out-strolled myself.

We found this cache at 3:10pm as the 12th of 20 on our Baccus and Beyond Day. A nice walk down into the gully. "HA" spopped just before the steep bit and I took the lone walk for the last 150m or so. It took a bit of finding and I thought that it may have been gone once more before I spotted the hide. No Robmc wasn't. Thanks from D,& HA B-A.

Another good walk through a pleasant bush setting. Enjoyed the start with all the flowers in bloom. We took a fairly direct approach on the last few M which stretched the knees a bit but the GZ was worth the effort. Nicely hidden cache.

We had just finished the walk in the Northern section, so we had an idea what we would see. The track was quite flat until that last little bit. Fortunately, there was no water at the bottom of the hill, no river crossings today.
Great tree. We looked in every nook and cranny before Chewin' eventually found the cache.
Thanks, Robmc.

Enjoyed the stroll to and from this one but would have been dissapointed if it wasn't there. It took a bit to find actually but we managed without too much fuss. I'm thinking I better not tell the Swaggies about this one or they'll be backing up the truck to get the old mower and combine near the start.
Thanks indeed The Riddellers

Well, who would have thought our cache would be muggled!
But there you go! It was gone.
So Mk2 is in place and all is back to normal.
Make sure you tuck it back up into its hole and it stays there before you leave.

A pleasant walk down there, but DNF after 1 whole hour, searched every available nook & cranny.

My first approaches to this cache were a comadai of errors! I coudn't find the parking area and while I was looking at Oziexplorer I noticed that I was parked not 50m from the carpark.
Then featherdown decided to wait in the car so I set off cross country for a change. Very dry and mostly open going dropping down a dry creek bed to the even drier remains of the main valley creek.
A great place for a cache.
Thanks to the Riddellers

This was cache # 5 of 28 for the day, in the company of Alansee & pprass. the cache was found at 1300. An enjoyable walk stroll or in my case hobble as I had stood on a four inch nail the day before. I enjoyed seeing remnants of the farming days now long gone, the way Alansee led us took us past the remains of an old stone looking building now very dilapidated. My thanks to The Riddellers for the cache.

Found at 1.00pm GAFF1 in the company of Alansee and ACTS2YG.
Loved this cache - from exploring which track to take (wish the Suzuki could have fitted between those posts!) to taking an Alansee cross country and down gully route to crossing the dry creek to finding a cache in a lovely setting.
Thanks The Riddellers for experience and to the guys for the company.

Done with Acts2YouthGroup and pprass on a fine winter's day. A most enjoyable stroll into the Long forest, although because of the way we first strolled we didn't use the track in. However our walk in was still good fun.

At gz it is really quite a nice area and the find was soon made by pprass. My first for the day - they were up to about 25. Razz Thanks for the walk and cache Riddellers.

This is another of those caches that I really enjoy. A short walk on a well-made track to a peaceful flat beside a creek. Just what the doctor ordered.

On arrival at the carpark, I was surprised to see another car there. Oh well, if I wasn;t going to get the FTF, at least I would hopefully meet another cacher to havachat with. I found the owner kicking around in the mud at one of the waterpoints. (What for, who knows?)

So it was off to find the prize solo. Saw a couple of roos scuttle off as I was heading down the gully, which is always nice. Found the well-hidden cache in about the fifth spot I looked, it certainly won't get found accidently.

Thanks, The Riddellers, for a ripper of a cache in another nice stroll close to home. TNLNSL

Oh yeah, FTF @ 0855 hrs

1st find of the cache run and 2071st total find at 12:10.

A very interesting area. We explored it a bit more than we intended by virtue of taking the wrong track at some point. Nevertheless we thoroughly enjoyed our foray into an area we should visit more often.

We could have been first here if we had got our act together when we received the 'Publish' notification. Thinking that the FTF hunters wouldn't be so busy midweek, we decided to 'sleep on it' - and ended up with 2nd place.

Took: Nothing
Left: Nothing
Thanks The Riddellers for the cache.
