Love early knock off on Friday - it means I can go caching This was my last stop this afternoon and I was finally stumped. Spent a while hunting here, checked the hint, googled the hint!, looked again trying to think tackle head hides but still no luck. I had already run past the time limit I set myself so when my GPS battery died I called it a day. TFTH tackle head
Cache was exposed and out in the open - lucky for me or I probably wouldn't have found it! Back safe and sound now, TFTC xox
Awesome camo! Had no muggle activity to contend with either. Log signed & replaced. TFTC & smiley face
Thanks for the cache. This one had us puzzled for a while but in the end we found and signed it.
Third stop on a lazy Sunday afternoon caching trip with parents visiting from Adelaide. This one had us scratching our heads for a while, but some handy hint googling by dad had cache in hand in short order. Great cache design well hidden, thanks!
Couldn't find, but the heat zapped all our caching energy and we retreated to our air conditioned car. We will hopefully return another time.

Find # 3454
Streak: 145 days
Out on our regular cache run with my caching partner in crime, SedgwickDave. We were heases west today towards Altona, Truganina, Point Cook, Hoppers Crossing, Werribee and finally Wyndham Vale. The weather was not looking great with rain forecast, but we were both keen to pick up some caches on this side of town and I needed 28 more finds to get 1000 for the year which I hoped to be Wyndham Lights 2013 incarnation.
This one had us tricked for a bit, but eventually the very well camoed hide revealed itself.
Thanks to tackle_head for the cache. TNLN

Found @14:56 #3366
Today's cache run with Ahomburg had us out on the north west side of the bay with some urban style caching starting at Cherry lake and heading towards Wyndham Lights at the end. Weather was looking grey but it cleared during the day. A great result with 24 finds and 1 DNF.
Another interesting location and due to the day and time of year there was no muggles about, which made the hunt a bit easier. Checked a few places and then once checking the hint the ahh moment was realized with Ahomburg making the find at last. Nice history. Thanks for showing me this area.

On the bike this morning thought I'd detour off the waterfront and nab this elusive on my 4th crack. Happy now
Found @ 7:09am, find # 2730.
Biggles1024 and myself headed down to Geelong for the day to attend the Christmas Smorgasbord of events, while picking our unfound caches on the way and in between events.
We stopped at this one and by the time I arrived at GZ, Mark had just made the find on a very nice hide. Thanks to tackle_head for placing this this cache.

Find #748
Stemicmitsar and I again teamed up for a trip to Geelong. Attending as many of the five Xmas events being held there was the purpose of our trip but naturally we wanted to find as many caches as we could along the way. Excellent camo employed here. I really liked this one. SL TFTC

Find 936 at 00:30. Tonight I was out with Burge on a caching run in Melbourne's West. We were focusing on the Point Cook and Williams Landing areas, along with a couple of others that we haven't been able to cross of the list until now. All up we found 19 caches tonight and this was cache number 16 on this run.
This was about our third visit to this cache as it has been quite elusive in the past. A bit more thinking around the hint gave us some new spots to search and tonight we were finally able to make the find and cross this one off the list. Thanks for the cache, tackle_head! This one has been a good little challenge indeed.

After attempting this on a few occasions its good to knock this off the list. Was interesting tonight as there there appeared to be a gang war and the police sorting it out. Tftc Tnln sl

This was the turn around point for our morning cycle, as our planned ride to Frankston was comprehensively washed out. The GPS was extremely accurate and this was a quick find - which just goes to show how far out I was when I was last here.
Even then the hide caught me by surprise - well done! Just the high standard I have come to expect.
Ok, not wet yet. Now to make it home dry too...
Thanks and cheers!

Bought some fish at the fish and chip shop for lunch . Then it was cache time ! Great little hide was found ,but I had to use the hint to find it. My GPS was bouncing everywhere .Thanx for the cache steve and all the caching fun
No sign of possibilities that we could find today. I note there is a new plaque cemented on, dated Dec 2012, and different from the one in the photo. Things have changed recently?
Regular Tuesday orienteering and cache run in the west.
Great hide, quick find, signing and rushing as I'm late.

I'd been in Werribee earlier in the day untill the heat got the better of me and I hopped on the train home. As the train stopped at Westona station, I noticed that the cafe near GZ was shut today, probably due to the labour day holiday, so I quickly jumped off the train and rode over to have another crack at finding some brown gold.
I'd spent a while here in the early hours previously, and had discovered where the cache should be, but it was not there, so now that tacklehead has replaced the cache the find today was made in moments. Having only been able to imagine what should be there, it was good to finally see the camo job that so many had favourited in the past. Loved it. very clever and blends in perfectly. great construction job too. Have another favourite point tackle_head, this cache is well deserving of it.
Cheers.

Apologies for not logging this sooner, I recently found a list of caches that I never got around to logging online. This cache was found late 2012 but I don't recall the date. So I'm logging it with today's date because I really don't want to mess up my nice round number of 700 caches for the year by adding extras!
This was my second attempt at the cache, the first time I examined the monument too closely but this time I looked around a bit more and the excellent hide revealed itself. Thanks Steve!

The camo appears to have disappeared. All that remains is an empty space where it should be.
No find today & something I think may be very important is present in the photo but no longer in real life...
This was the 15km mark of my long walk through the area. GZ was deserted but I couldn't see or feel the cache. A very frustrating half an hour.
We did enjoy the challenge of finding this extremely well camoflauged and innovative cache. Fortunately we arrived at GZ nice an early before there were too many muggles about which sure helps!
TFTC tackle head for all the planning and effort that went into this great cache.

This evening is the Williamstown Pub Dinner Event, and Pam's Book Club is meeting tonight at our place. Hmmm difficult decision.
I left a couple of hours early for the event in order to attempt a few caches in the Altona area I hadn't found last time, and then I attended the event, after which I found a few more with TheMD and Spladem.
This one was number 3 of 10 for the day.
Last time I was here I was completely obsessed with one of the words in the hint.
Today I focussed on both words and had much better results. A very cleverly hidden cache.

Today, the score is

The gps didnt want to settle at GZ, or did it? a simple but very effective camo that blends right in. Thanks again Tackle Head.
Tried this last week, but was getting a hostile stare from a tradie working on a nearby shop, reckoned I had found it, but walked away...
Returned this arvo and I was right, had to squash a redback!! Sorry to the people who don't like violence...
Thanks for a great hide tacklehead.... I still remember my first find, one of your mad max series, and have been continually impressed with the quality and effort you put into them.

No ants in the cache today - it was probably too cold for them! This was my second or third visit to this location, and finally the hint made sense (after googling it and finding a different interpretation from last time). I think the plaque was still attached last time I was here - but I might be wrong. Another clever hide! TFTC
On a bright and breezy autumn Monday, decided to set aside my writing work and drive out to Altona with my bike on the rack. Then proceeded to ride to 19 caches in a grand circuit with 100% success. A fabulous day out, cleared the head and exercised the old bod.
This one had me pacing in circles, but finally got the brain in gear and figured out what to look for. But when I shifted to the middle of the grassy area to sign the log, I was shocked to find the cache full of ants! I did my best to bang them out, but I think future cachers might throw a tin of spray into the vehicle before visiting.
After signing the log, my challenges were not over yet. An elderly woman appeared up at the shops and stopped to talk to a fellow. She was facing squarely my direction. I sat patiently, reading some emails, then once her conversation was done after at least 10 minutes, I waited for her to shuffle past me pushing her little trolley, then out the rear end of the park. But she didn't make it as a different fellow stopped and they had a great old chat for another bloody ten minutes, and all the while the little woman was facing right at me! Surely she was wondering what I was doing there as she talked in a loud voice about a local misdemeanor of some sort. Oh dear, I've been tagged by the local stickybeak! She was not going to leave until I did, it seemed. So I stood up and looked annoyed at the world, pretended to be on my phone, then sat down with a thump near GZ and as stealthily as possible returned the cache (beautifully rendered, I might add). Waited a bit longer, then coolly collected my gear and rode off into the day.
TH, I'm going to give this a fave for all the above reasons!

This is the second attempt at this cache. A muggle free day helped this time around. TFTC tackle head
After spending the two previous days walking around Melbourne doing caches it was nice to get out of town and not to have to do so much walking. So visiting WA cachers richlink travelled in our direction and we headed off from the Werribee south caravan park to do some caching. Later in the day we found ourselves in the Altona area and this proved to be good as we found some of our favourite caches here. It was getting really late by the time we got to this location and richlink were keen to get on the train to head back to Melb so luckily richard spotted this one fairly quickly. Thanks tackle head, we have enjoyed your clever hides.
Travelled by train to Werribee to spend the day caching with Liz and Bruce around the area. Came to altona on the recommendation of other cachers and we were not disappointed. Only wish we had a bit more time to check out others but this was to be the last for the day. Another inventive and well executed hide.

Well , we searched again after 2 people found this over the w/e and with a pointer from Tacklehead we can now tick this one off.
Surprisingly, we both both touched the cache on a previous search and discounted it when it didn't move easily.
Thanks Tacklehead. Once again your hides haven't disappointed.
We have now put you on a pedastal and plinth of your own as the Holy Mecca of cache hiders.
We look forward to doing more of yours in the future.

After having no luck at Grab Your Rod #1 and deciding a Hot Chocolate was more inviting than continuing on with Creatures and Creations in the now heavier rain, we were glad that by the time we had finished our warm drinks that the rain had eased up again and we could continue on our Top 50 Victorian Favourites Quest and any other enticing ones along the way
So we came to this cache and once again GMelb managed to put his hand on it almost immediately whilst JMelb was looking elsewhere. Once again a very cleverly constructed cache worthy of a favourite point.... we're using lots today!! TNLNSL

Sitting in this peaceful little square today it was really difficult to imagine the area as any type of coalmine. The cache itself was another example of tackle_head's amazing imagination when it comes to creating cache hides.

Was able to park right next to GZ but of course I knew better and spent some time looking in the wrong spot. Eventually sanity prevailed and I soon had the well hidden cache in hand, another great tackle head cache! Thanks for this one, though as stated in a previous log, the main plaque has gone from the monument which is a pity.
My last find for 2011 on the way to Williamstown to watch the Fireworks across the bay!
The hide, in typical tackle_head style did not disappoint! No muggles here tonight, but although getting caches at night is sometimes easier, you do tend to miss out on the 'feel' of the area! Some great street art nearby that I will have to drop back & photograph at some stage!
Took: Nothing
Left: Nothing
Thanks tackle_head for bringing me here!
*Cache Condition ~ Fine!

Another very clever hide, very well concealed. Took a seat on the monument to sign the log and wait for a muggle to pass by before returning the cache. Thanks for the cache.
Muggle central.....
Of all Tackle-head hides this one proved to be the most difficult and not even the cover of darkness made a difference. My GPS was all over the place with no hope of settling down and I even resorted to the clue (Which I very rarely resort too) this brought me to a likely spot then suddenly we had disturbed a nearby dog [:(!] we had to walk away where I decided to PAF and shortly afterwards the clever hide was made.
I actually shinned my torch on the cache when that dammed dog went nuts.
Really nice container - Awesome camo......BLOODY DOG [:(!]
Thx tacklehead.

4/09/11 9:39 AM Find #452 Back again, tried yesterday but with some help from jsmyong55 I found it. Very sneaky! TFTC.
One of 42 with Trailrunning and jsmyong55. A great night out with these two hard-core cachers. Now this was a great hide. jsmyong55 and I were looking in the wrong spot entirely when Trailrunning just walked up and grabbed the thing. He's good, there's no denying it. TFTC.
Tonight I was out with caching buddies jsmyong55 and The Physics Teacher. After meeting at Swinburne we took the West Gate Freeway to head out to Williamstown to pick up a few DNF’s from last week as well as continue on. The weather kept clear for us, but the wind was biting.
We had 41 caches on the list, and while we pulled up stumps at cache 33 we did bag a number on the way back to Hawthorn so that the Physics Teacher could get over 40 caches for the night. J and I had already collected these. Not bad in 6.5 hours.
After bring ya rod #5 we decided to make our way home as it was time. I decided to grab this on on the way. We found a neat hide after a moments search. Nicely done again tackle head.

Monday night seems to be a usual run for trailrunning and I nowadays. This time, we had Physics Teacher on board with us. We met up at Swinburne to begin our run. Traffic wasn't looking as good on Westgate but we went ahead with the plan. We had 41 on our list but we called quits after it was getting late and really chilly the later it got. I must remember to bring a jacket next time. Thank goodness it didn't rain, that would only make things worst.
It was a pretty good run I must say, with 34 in the bag tonight and many more for the Physics Teacher along the way back. Not bad considering we had to walk quite a distance for some of them.
One of the few caches found on the way home. Physics Teacher and I were searching for the cache at the wrong spot but we have the experienced trailrunning for jobs like this. Found it without much problem. TFTC tackle_head:)

28/08/11 5:11 PM - I had this place to myself but alas it eluded me. It could be a tricky hide but I wasn't keen to break anything. It seems odd that long ago there was a mine here and this little monument is all that's left.
Found whilst out on a daytrip of tackle_heads hides. Using the car as cover here is a good idea. Had this one in hand pretty quickly, and pleased to have another intuitive tackle_head cache under the belt. Makes up for the ones that eluded me today. Thanks TH, loved the cache.
Picked a quiet time to find this cache, log too wet to sign so I added a small piece of paper and signed that. Not sure if it will stay dry though.
Amazing to think of a coal mine in the middle of suburbia! Muggles everywhere and probably made worse when my finger got stuck for 2 mins, ouch. T4PlacingThisC
Out on this cool Wednesday night for another huge night caching run with my good mate Blacklegend (Marshy). We were looking around GZ for the cache when the dog in the yard scared the crap out of us with its sudden and consistant barking. Dam annoying barking dogs. Anyway Marshy located the cache and we signed the log. Glad to move on from here. TFTC.
One of 33 found on another legendary night caching run with my good mate Marty (Quasar3671). Another fantastic hide tackle head. Dog in the backyard scared the $##$ out of us. Fascinating information here. I wonder where the exact location of the mine shaft is and whether it is just covered up and still in existence, or if it was filled in...?? TFTC.
Had a crack at this one, but as soon as I arrived at GZ the cafe owner popped out for a chat. He's a really nice guy - but he's still a muggle ! DNF
Finally!
me and crochetboy have searched for this one no less than 4 times always coming up empty
looking deeper into the clue and with the iphone app we finally can mark this one done

On my way back home before the 'pick up' a bit later, this one popped up on the radar so I thought I'd drop in for a look. After reading the very interesting history, it was down to business. The O3 kept telling me that the cache wasn't where I was looking so after checking the hint , I decided to believe the O3 and soon had the very cleverly hidden stash in hand at 11:20
TNLNSL, although our BYO pen geocoin had a visit to mark the occasion. Thanks for another real beaut tackle_head .

Suscoe arrived here nice and early today.
Just a few muggles collecting papers and not much else happening.
A couple of attempts and back to the car for a tool or two and just the right one assisted.
Cache in hand, signed log and returned to its safe haven. Number 1 of 11 for today.
What a great story and who would have thought that something had been happening down below all those years ago.
Thanks to tackle-head for sharing this history with us.

This one took a great deal of searching and in the end I had to resort to the clue. I wasn't exaclty sure what it meant though. Desperation made me try anything and then I struck gold - not the yellow type though. It is hard to imagine that a mine existed here many years ago.
This was a very sneaky hide and I loved all the history with it.

I wonder if 'tackle_head' heard my primordial scream when I found this one. But for this log a 'YEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSS! will do. It helps understanding what the clue means and I had a handyman person with me who gave me a different perspective in this regard. A very well thought out hide. Glad to have bagged this one after so long. That aside, you'd never realise there was a coal mine here if not for the plaque and yet I wonder how many Altonians and visitors know of this history. Thank you to 'tackle_head' for the cache location, the cache (ingenious) and importantly the caching notes and history. I will remember this one for a myriad of reasons in a glad light. Found with Dylan 7a on a night time caching journey.
Yay! Yay!
Horay! Horay!
What can we say???
Except thanks Tacklehead for your offline hint & assistance. We just didn't think to make the connection with the arrow as a guide! And here we were trying to pull everything apart on the actual monument! (Not that there's much at all to pull apart!) So one thousand apologies to the local council for making certain bits & pieces a little more wobbly & less tacked on than they were originally! Thanks again! SL.

Ok. We admit defeat on this one! Enjoyed a great day off work (Aust Day Holiday) & thought we'd check this one out for the 3rd time & give it our best shot. Trusted our GPS, sat on the plinth, looked at the plinth board, felt everything, watching out for anything cammoflauged, rubbing our fingers alongside all cracks & crannies (not that there's much on this plinth!) & gave up in the end as it was messing with our minds! Might have to consult our psychiatrist about this one!!!
I checked this " happy little cache " today at 1440 hrs and is doing well and asked me to say Hi to everyone - so there you go .

Ok. So this was our 2nd attempt. Read the description & hint again. Read everyone's comments. Wiggled & jiggled a lot of bits & pieces but no luck.
Checked the cache today at 1115 and all is " HO HO HO - MERRY CHRISTMAS and a HAPPY NEW CACHING YEAR " ( cache is well )

We were obviously not in a tacklehead frame of mind, but found it eventually!
TFTH Steve & lots of Ho Ho Ho Merry Christmas's to you to.

Ok, put the thinking cap on and think deviously...
I checked GZ once, but obviously not well enough as the second check yielded the desired result.
TFTC Tackle_head
Looking forward to doing your other nearby cache soon
