TFTC. Enjoyed our walk to Lake Chisolm. Thanks for bringing us to this location. Have added a FP Answers & photo sent to CO
[8995] Holidays on Tasmania, day 7. Today I had to travel the Tarkine Drive alone as my wife stayed sick in our bed & bedfast. A complete circle, starting in Smithton, took 6,5 hours with 10 scenic stops/ short walks and I also logged 12 geocaches along the route, this one for example. A nice little walk to a beautiful hidden location. Thanks for placing the EC close to that spectacular route. TFTC!
Thanks TeamSwampy for hiding this cache and giving us some fun chasing it down This was find number 1,085 for us We are traveling Australia full time in a Coaster Bus and of course grabbing some caches along the way. [Feel free to follow our journey HERE...](https://linktr.ee/SalandAnth)
Today Im starting out early from Smithton to do a lap along the coast, then head into The Tarkine and back to some tall timber where Im staying. Its gonna be a huge day exploring, driving and caching I still cant get over how massive some of these trees are! They are absolutely amazing. And then the lake. it was a lot larger than I expected, which made me wonder what exactly am I standing, walking and driving across the top of??TFTC TeamSwampyKeep smiling
Today we did a loop around the Tarkine from our base at Julius River. We had an amazing day out we loved the area and especially that it isnt overrun by tourists meaning could be immersed in nature - brilliant. This was our first stop of the morning we were the only ones here. Wonderful sinkhole lake/cenote. Have seen others in limestone in Mexico but this one was an impressive example. TFTC
We were driving The Tarkine Drive and after spending the night at a nearby campsite, this was our first stop for the day. It was drizzling, so with rain jackets on, we decided to see what this lake was all about. We really enjoyed our walk here and set about gathering our answers. It was interesting reading the information boards learning about the area. Thanks TeamSwampy for placing this Earthcache
Caching around Tasmania. TFTC.
Was raining but totally worth the hike to this magical place.

Find Number 2631 found at 11:34. Today we found 5 caches. We had 3 DNFs. This was the 3rd find of the day
Day 6 of our tour round Tasmania. Today we drove from Stanley to Arthur River via the Tarkine Drive, in gale force winds and sudden heavy showers of rain. We did, however, manage to attempt some caches between showers.
What an amazing experience! We walked slowly along the path (neither of us are as fit as we used to be) admiring the forest as we went. It took us a lot longer than the usual 15 minutes but we were rewarded by platypuses. Lots of platypuses. Three were visible at one time, but we saw well over a dozen popping up and down. Sure, some would have been repeats but there would have been at least 5 or 6 individuals.
Oh, yes - the earthcache - answers have been sent to the CO and a favourite point awarded for the platypuses.
Even the rain starting up as we returned to the car didn't spoil it for us.
Thanks TeamSwampy for the cache and the platypuses.

The lake was larger than I thought it would be. No platypuses seen today. Thanks for an interesting earthcache.
Found while visiting from Canberra. A pleasant stroll to the sinkhole where all became obvious. I will send through answers. Here is a photo.
Another hole in the area! Visited while doing the tarkine drive, and going the caves I plan to visit this week haven't filled in like these did.
Thanks for the earthcache
Thanks for the earthcache
We collected this one while out driving the Tarkine. A beautiful place. Loved our walk in here, the forest was serene and the lake eerie. Have sent the CO answers to the questions. Photo attached. TFTC
Finally got around to logging this after sending the answers to the owner
Great place
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3 days off from work, and Geo Kid O joined me on a journey to Stanley and then down along the western explorer road towards Corinna. We have a great time finding a number of caches and driving a road I had not travelled on before.
The Western Explorer road was closed for a while and recently had been reopened with a new bridge near Balfour. Some very interesting sights along the way, with part of the road feeling more like a forest track, and other parts felt like a place where no one else has gone in the past, other than on the road. The open button grass plains were amazing along with the mountain views.
We stayed in Stanely, and the caches in and around Stanely were very good, including one walk to the top of the Nut. Gee that is a steep 400 metre walk.
Thank you for the cache which was part of our journey

What a great place to visit. Thank you for placing this earthcache in the geocaching.com system
I’ve wanted to come to Tasmania for ever, it’s always just been too expensive to bring our 4wd and van over, nearly 2.5k just for the boat (return) that $ always seemed to be have been better off spent ‘up the road’ on the big island for a few weeks rather than coming over. Anyway when plans were made to do a Big Lap we knew that it must respectfully include a lap of the little Island as well.
Having sold our hobby farm and put all of our possessions into storage here you have us, on the road wild and free in Tasmania.
Sorry for the generic log, but time, data and reception (gosh Tassy has spasmodic reception) are all factors in the decision to use a copy and paste log, we will always endeavour to leave a photo or two with each log and always leave a favourite point and unique comment(S) where applicable for the truly outstanding caches.
Earth, Virtual, Letterbox, Handmade and Gadget caches are always at the top of the list for us to find.
Thank you for being one of the CO’s who supplied us with a cache to find today.

This was my first cache on day three of my trip so I was here early. A beautiful place to be after an enjoyable early morning walk. Logged with permission of the C.O. Thank you for the cache which was the reason for me being here.
We were out for a day trip with friends doing the Tarkine Loop and, of course, geocaching on the way.
We are enjoying the earth caches.
The walk into the sinkhole was lovely. Huge trees, wildflowers, amazing root structures.
We didn't get to see a platypus, but did see a pair of little grebes busily making a nest on the banks of the lake, and the chorus of frogs was very melodic.

Placemarker log if i ever get round to it.
Well this week myself and Goose were meant to be on the mainland at a Mega and we did think we would be going to this one but with Victoria letting the side down and restrictions on moving between states back in place all the Mega's we canceled or postponed.
With time booked off work we came up with a plan to do a lap of Tassie and collect some of the more out of the way caches in the West and then pick up some others on the North Coast before hitting Launy and then heading South to go home.
From filling the car on Monday to filling again when we got home on Saturday we covered just over 1800Kms, along the way we picked up 18 GCA caches, 57 GC caches, 1 puncture, 1 chipped windscreen and 1 engine warning light.
Found on 01/10/2020 at 10:02:00 AM thanks to TeamSwampy for placing this cache for me to find.

After an overnight in Smithton it was time to loop down here to visit a couple of caches that really should have been done on the last visit but when there are more people everything takes longer, priorities are different and things never work out quite as planned.
Driving through the rain forest, the filtered light was magical but made it hard to see too far in front. We saw quite a bit of wildlife though, with the rat even seeing a tassie devil.
The track down to the lake was a little sloppy in parts and cockatoos screeched above us like an out of tune Sunday choir, all making for an entertaining walk.
The lake itself was still and quiet creating some beautiful reflections with the clear sky after heavy overnight rain.
Answers sent to CO via GC messenger. Let me know if you don't get them Swampy.
Thanks for bringing us here, so glad there were not crowds to ruin the experience.

Great place to listen to the chorus of frogs, spot a platypus our go crazy attempting to identify lichens and mosses.
Made the detour off the main road out to this sink hole, this is definitely different to the ones in south Australia but still an amazing location and so peaceful.
Today I set off to do the tarkine drive and find the caches within in the area. Set off from home at 5am and covered just over 800km for 38finds plus 5 labs. An amazing area that a lot of people need to visit.
Thanks for the cache

T-Tech and I are down from Brisbane for a meandering holiday around Tasmania. We flew to Melbourne where we picked up the campervan and spent a day caching there, then took Spirit of Tasmania I to Devonport. Tick that one off the bucket list!
Today we are travelling from Arthur River through Trowutta Forest Reserve, and plan to take a couple of walks to get some exercise! We were unsure if we could get to this Earthcache as our campervan has a clause in the hire agreement that says we may not drive on unsealed roads, (unless going to a campground) but were pleased to discover a sealed road all the way to the parking lot [^] We enjoyed the walk out here. We did not find the required board at the posted co-ords, as per the Description, but when we reached the lake itself, we found what we needed. A chat happened about the questions, and we took several photo to help jog the memory. I have sent my answers to the CO. TFTEc, TeamSwampy.

Another one of many on our travels through Tassie [^]
Kind of weird to think that if I just pulled out that one log it could all drain away

What a fabulous part of the world this is. We were staying in Smithton and took a day trip to do the Tarkine loop as we had heard it was not to be missed. After visiting, we agree! Thanks for placing this earthcache here TeamSwampy
With a bit of time off and a chance to get away from Sydney was what I needed TeamMerlin was also free at the time. So Tasmania seemed to be a good place to spend about a week. It has been a while since I last went when I was there for photography and before I knew about Geocaching. We found a lot of nice caches including one of the oldest caches which was a Hide month I was missing. A lot of puzzles had been solved either before we went down or the night before between us. While here we also visited a lot of EarthCache and learnt a lot more about what makes up Tasmania. Stopped nearby so headed a bit further to this EarthCache got the required information and teamMerlin sent it in and now logging with permission
Thanks for bringing me to the area and giving us something different to learn TeamSwampy

Out and about picking up caches as we travel around this area of Tassie. Have seen some wonderful sights as we venture into some very unique wilderness!
Arrived at GZ and read the board and then realised we had to do a walk. Off we go and saw some big logs and some interesting ferns. Then we came to the sinkhole where we got more info.

A lovely spot to stop during our exploration of the area.
A nice Earthcache on an exploratory walk around the Tarkine Tourist route in some typical rainforest weather.
A pleasant spot to stop for a lunch break too. And by the way this place is really worthy of a visit as it appears that not many people realize that it has been opened up again after the fires of 2016.

A broken ankle means I am now catching up on earth caches from last a March trip to Tasmania.
Lake Chisholm what a beautiful walk and what a massive storm while we where here. So much lightning. Favourite awarded. What a jewel in the area.

We completed the Tarkine Forest Drive today and this was a bonus stopover en route. What a gem! The walk to the lake was peaceful and the lake on arrival was as calm as a millpond. Only a few other tourists yo spoil the illusion of being the only people left on earth. Thanks for placing this cache right here.
The cache all was pleasant. The group ahead spotted a tiny frog on a leaf, so we stopped to take a photo too.
Today was a miserable day and well suited to a roadtrip, sightseeing and picking up some caches. Our aim was to explore these beautiful forests and discover amazing information. Thanks so much for bringing us here and for this enjoyable Earthcache. A favourite point from us.
Tassie Trip Day 33 - Today was a great day for the Tarkine dirve so we started at the final location as the weather was good and the first half being in the forset and at hieight. So the trip started with a cache close to town and then on our way to the main drive area.
Wow what a spot and that body of water is rather big I wonder what would have happened to it if the sinkhole had never formed. It was alos a great day to see some of the wildlife in the area such a hidden gem.
Thanks TeamSwampy for the lesson and a great spot to visit and find out how it all happened.

Today we drove the Tarkine Loop and I was hoping for a good haul of smilies. It was not to be. There were 2DNFs and in one location there were 4 vehicle loads of muggle campers still packing up, so I didn't even try and the third disappointment was caused by lack of safe parking space for a big rig like ours. We did have some success in finding caches and I will hang on with bated breath to see if my answers to 2 Earth caches are acceptable.
Many thanks to all COs for placing these caches which add interest and excitement to our travels.

On a spin around the Tarkine today,
this was the highlight
I wandered along the trail to the lake in search of an Earthcache
The forest here is incredible !!
So this is what happens if the timber industry leaves somewhere alone
I felt rather dwarfed by the trees !!
Like I was walking on Endor !!
And then a lake appeared !!
I could almost imagine Luke's X-wing sitting half submerged on the shoreline [:o)]
Enuff !!
No Ewoks seen,
or Tassie tigers
Thanks for the Earthcache [^]
Fave dance time !!.

Our apologies for the delay in posting our log. Things have got a little out of hand recently & the backlog has become rather more of a "log jam".
Our thanks to TeamSwampy for placing this cache for us to find (or occasionally not) on 24/01/2018. Further details (for earthcaches & the like) will be supplied to the CO once the jam has cleared.

Hi there TeamSwampy.
We cached around North West Tasmania today - and found your cache **"Lake Chisholm Sinkhole"** at 12:47:00 PM. (This brings our total find count to 18447).
We ended up finding a variety of container types and sizes on our journey & found 13 caches (& DNF'd 1).
Thank you for placing this cache here, without geocaching as our guide we would never have found so many interesting places to visit on our nomadic wander around Australia.
Regards
Ian and Penny.

Today we decided to do the Tarkine Drive. We stopped at many nice spots. We did in total six caches. This was one of them.
It was a nice pleasant walk to the sinkhole. It is interesting how different spots in the nature were created.
Thanks for showing. Tftc

What a pleasant walk down to this earthcache[^] The water level is a bit low but then Tassie is in the midst of a dry spellThanks for showing us this one, we've missed it before TFTC logging in anticipation.
Geo van on the move again, this time set up at Julius River and of course, find a few caches while we are there. Visited Lake Chisholm Sinkhole. And then on to Milkshake hills if the roads are open.

Logging with permission from the owner. First time visiting the lake and despite the dreary weather had a great experience. One other couple there enjoying the area. Love these earthcaches where the answers can be found and you don't need to be a geologist to answer the questions. Thanks.
Spent the last couple of days enjoying a road trip from Zeehan to Smithton via Waratah and collecting a few smilies along the way. Enjoyed the walk. Answers forwarded to the CO.
Thanks TeamSwampy

Nice short walk to the lake. Also stopped off at Dempster lookout & the Trowutta Caves on the way home. Beautiful area that we take for granted because we live here. TFTC
Found the lake and didn't realise the info required as I am new to GC and with impatient family from NSW.
Thanks for the earthcache Swampy - spot on for this location. It was a magical walk down through the most beautiful, atmospheric forest scenes. The combination of myrtles, those giant awe-insipring eucalpyts, the mosses, ferns, fungis and lichens all contributed and made for a fantastic short walk. I'm so glad we went the extra mile! At the lake, I was surprised that it looked well....just like a lake! Brilliant area though. Permission gained to log the find. Thanks again.
We have found this beautiful location on our Christmas holiday trip around Tasmania. So many great memories!

We had a rather damp! week in the North West. It was lovely walking down to the lake. Thanks.
Lots of beehives on the way in. In the lead-up to visiting this lake, we enjoyed the lookout providing a view of the valley, and a couple of rainforest walks at Julius River. The massive trees here are very impressive!

Stayed at the Julius river camping ground down the road last night and ventured up here to the lake this morning. The tranquility is lovely and you do notice the spongyness of the ground from all the leaf litter as you meander to the lake- and hope it doesn't sink! Worth the drove out here. Cheers
A great place to visit, the forest walk is beautiful and fresh and the lake is awesome. I have been wanting to visit here for a while. tftc
I think this is only the second earthcache I've ever actually made the effort to do... regrettably, I find it difficult to get interested in geology. I just wanted to see the pretty lake. Anyway, we scribbled down some answers from the board, then walked the lovely quiet rainforest path to the lake. The lake was quite beautiful and still with the sound of croaking frogs filling the air. And no one else to be seen! We found our way to what appeared to be the typical 'photo opportunity' log, took one of our own, then departed this lovely place. Thanks.
Was in the area doing training with the SES. Walked through lovely rain forests and visited some caves in the area.
We recently visited Lake Chisholm Sinkhole we thoroughly enjoyed our visit and the interesting information we learnt. We were lucky to see a platypus in the lake as well. We are logging our find with permission. Thanks for bringing us here TeamSwampy.
Logging with permission. This was a really nice walk in this area, lots of interesting plants and fungi. Thanks for bringing us here!
Nice little walk. Thought the walk at Julius river (just down the road) was prettier.
This is an idyllic location, a geological feature sheltered from the winds. Although we knew of the formation of sinkholes and had seen many, we didn't know the reasons why a small number had become lakes. We would recommend this as a top area to visit. Logged with permission. TFTC
Logged with permission. Not sure if the date is correct, but somewhere around then! Earthcaches are great - makes you learn what there is to learn about an area, and they are always in interesting and lovely spots. This one was no exception. (And there's no box to get lost or muggled!) We enjoyed the short walk through the beautiful forest - we reckon some of those big trees are as good as if not better than the much publicised ones in the Styx Valley! Thanks so much for bringing us here.
1335 Found by baby&Mrs gopher. We wre going to do this Earthcache on our way from the south but it was raining heavy so unable to come up the World Heritage track. We are glad that we came back to have a look here, what a wonderful little area.Signed with permission Tnx TeamSwampy
Third of three Earthcaches for the day.Now that is a a record I am proud of.
Answers sent. Photo will follow in a few weeks when I get home from hols.
Thank you for bringing me to a lovely corner of your State. Well worth the detour. Also loved the Chisolm Tree, though I am not sure why they singled out this one. There were other giants just as impressive. No Platypi today, but some ducks put in an appearance.

Visited here some years ago - this cache took us back again to do the beautiful walk down to the lake. Email sent and photo being uploaded. (Sorry, took photo with GPS so couldn't have it in the image as well.) Thanks for the earthcache, TeamSwampy.
First saw this lake some 40 years ago while locating many of the forest roads in the area so it has brought back many memories. I'm glad to say it's exactly the same as it was back then. These large sink holes were a conundrum when locating roads as they would unexpectedly appear from now where. Great to be able to come back...so many thanks Swampy for the cache.....thoroughly enjoyed it...Cheers.

This is a combined first to find as we shared the day with yin & yan. Would be a nice place for a photo early morning or late evening. Very windy today. Thanks for the cache.
Answers all right and Swampy confirmed via Email we + Yin & Yan are the first to log this cache.
