Logs
Found this one without much issue. Log is lovely fresh, dry and unmarked (hmm?) until now tainted by my scrawl of course. Such a lovely area that I'm definitely going to be exploring more of over the coming months now that we have more sunlight in the evenings. Thanks for maintaining this cache.
Found it even though co-ords still seem to be out even though updated. Found 10m away.
Coordinates changed from:S 41 10.673 E 174 48.563Coordinates changed to:S 41 10.677 E 174 48.556Distance from original: 40.3 feet or 12.3 meters. The cache was still in its spot at the base of a concrete fencepost, although now well protected by shrubs and nearby gorse. When placed, this was right next to a stile for crossing the fence, however the track has moved about 5m south to a point where the fence has been pushed down to cross. Retrieved the container and placed a new one in a new spot on the other side of the fence and updated hint to match. Please take care to replace the container as found - *behind* the rock. No need to put it *under* the rock.
This is actually my 2nd attempt looking for this. I did not register my last DNF as I was more out of time to complete it with light fading and batteries low on the trusty light. Returned today with RoyalW1979 and no success in finding this one. Zeroed in on GL and looked behind all possible hard objects and no joys. I even looked 10 metres all around GL but GPS always took us to one hint object without no cache.
Yay! Found after a big search and gorse clearing exercise. The hint object is really useful, but you need to go past some gorse to discover it. Log was saturated but we managed to write on it. Love the spot and the views! TFTC
KiwiKatieG and I had quite a bit of a look and couldn't find anything. But we also didn't really feel like fighting with the new(ish) gorse that's grown around here. Will come back at a later stage and try again
Today I walked from the carpark at Peterhouse St, through the Larsen reserve, up Te Ngahere Trail, to the top of Broken Hill Road/Spicer Forest, then back down the ridgeline and finally walking through Redwood Bush reserve. A very long walk indeed.
One last cache for the day. By this point I was very tired, muddy, and ready for a long bath. I made this find quickly after spying it through the bushes. Then I made the long, slow trek down through the Redwood Reserve. Tftc!

Found while on a club walk to see the kohekohe flowering which the trees we doing in abundance much to the delight of the multitude of warbling tuis. Just amazing. TFTC
Spent a good while looking for this one after misinterpreting the hint. You don't need to step over the fence line to find this one. GPS is slightly out. TFTC
Another quick stop on the walk today. Nice find, logbook good is quite damp though
Back in September 2016 I tried to find this one and left a log saying I'd be back to have another try, well after moving to Bay of Plenty a few years ago I'm back on holiday and decided to turn the blue frown into a yellow smile.
Success! I have no idea why that was so hard last time as I went straight to it

I needed some caches today for my personal challenge, a drive down to Tawa to walk Redwood Bush/western loop track to find 21 caches Thanks -gonefishing- for the cache.
Out with Taiko33 for a tui tour among the kohekohe flowers. Now up the hill so dropped a TB for a view.

With the days drawing towards their shortest, it can be harder to get out and about for a good bout of caching. I knew I needed to get one really solid day in during May, so put the call out to see if anyone else would be interested in a raid on Tawa.
A few parties showed interest, but in the end it was just The Seagnoid and I that spent over 9 hours tramping a basic 'Figure of 8' along the bushwalks that border Broken Hill Road and on to the slopes of Colonial Knob Scenic Reserve, getting over 40 caches each with just a couple of DNF's along the way.
The path up to this point was nice and straightforward. Once we got near GZ, we made the classic mistake of "it'll be that one", which obviously it wasn't so made up look around a bit more. I went one way, tS went the other, and he made the find.
No issues encountered with the container or log, which was soon signed and replaced exactly as found before we headed off to the next one.
Thank you for setting up and maintaining this cache

Decent sized cache, so did a TB swap. One out, one in.
After trolling Facebook looking for a place to live, I saw that TwigNZ was looking to a group to do the Tawa "figure 8". I had a spare day, so why not. After 9 hours we found over 40 caches on the slopes beside and up to Colonial Knob. I completed today's objectives (find a cache for my streak find 3 caches to get my finds to 10 finds per date, a puzzle and an "other" for my puzzle and other dot days) and also found some archived caches, a cache released today (third to find), a geocacher, hardly any people and three trees (also some more trees...).

A quick find by Talla64 while we were out caching in an area we have not been before. A passing muggle stopped briefly to ask if we were lost, but we reassured him we were fine so he went on his way. Lovely day for walking this track. Dropped a TB. Thanks for the cache -gonefishing-.
Out and about with Flowerydaze in an area that is new to us and after looking back and seeing what we had to climb, maybe the last time. However it was a lovely day and the sun shone. This was a quick find thanks to the hint, TFTC gonefishing.
Wrapped to find this! Have come in from the Kiwi St end and lost the track, dropped down to a dry stream and got back on to track. Will try the rest another day- starting in the correct place!
Looking too much at one hint object, nearly failed to see the other. All good in cache, tftc!
In Wellington meeting up with Family and friends. Some spare time today so headed to Tawa for a walk. Enjoying this walk. From native bush its a walk past the bovines to the fence line. This one is now snagged and tagged. Cheers
Took me a little while to find this one, my phone GPS seemed to be pointing me in a certain direction so I searched for a while in the wrong places before switching to my GPSr which then led me to a different spot and the cache was then quickly located. If I'd read the previous logs I could have saved myself some trouble! Nice place for a cache, enjoyed my exploration of this area. TFTC
Not many hard items to look for so was quite easy to find. Thanks CO for the cache.
A new track for us which is always a bonus. It was interesting to,look back and see how Churton Park is creeping ever closer. Once we identified the correct hint object the cache was an easy find. TFTC
Quite sunny up on the ridge, and not too unpleasant out of the freezing southerly. I used to come up here a lot from the Stebbings Valley side, before Churton Park extended into the valley. Nice to be back! I got fooled by the coordinates here, like Gasbottle, and had to cross the fence a couple of times before I found it. An easy find in the end! TFTC,
A fairly easy walk from the previous cache I'd just come from. I misinterpreted the title and the hint and spent the first few minutes at GZ fruitlessly searching the wrong places. I took a break to read a few logs and found that the coordinates are about 7m out; there's no need to cross the fence (I'd done so twice); there's a completely different interpretation for the hint.
Now I looked again at my surroundings and quickly found something that matched the new parameters and shortly after that I had the cache in hand.

Ended up resorting to the hint as the GPS was taking us into a patch of scrub and found it in the 3rd place searched.
Rather than head back to the car, decided to continue along the track and hopefully meet up with the track from Kiwi St and the "end of the road" cache and its friends ....... not a great idea as after about an hour of walking the track showing on our topo map on the GPS disappeared and we ended up on the gravel road heading away from the caches.
Ended up following a fence line perpendicular to the "end of the road" cache as it was "only" 450 metres but took us close to an hour as the terrain crossed several streams with extremely steep descents and climbs in between. In hindsight it would have made more sense to go back to Braenose St and drive to Kiwi St but was fun nonetheless.

Relatively quick dash up here from the cache I stopped at on the way up. Seemed like quite a long 400m for some reason even though most of it is easy ridgeline walking. Had a bit of a look around at GZ and was just about to reach for the hint when I spied the cache. Not a bad view up here but it doesn't compare to some of the higher elevation caches around Porirua. TFTC.
While on the Tawa ridgeline I decided to head on up to grab this one. Got a little stuck at the GZ as I had gotten a bit confused with the cache title was thinking it would be hidden under a native tree (like a similar series in Kaitoke), so I had spent a few minutes crawling under and clambering over a specimen nearby without any luck. I stepped back to take stock of the situation whereupon I spotted something else that matched the hint so headed towards it and came a across a closer one that was hidden from view which turned up the goods. Now it was time to make my way back down. TFTC
I set off on a mission tonight to grab the cluster of caches to the south of my sisters. With 4 dogs in tow...my 3 + 1 of my sisters there were a few added challenges accessing and finding the caches but it was a successful mission. Had to pass a dead sheep on the fenceline...smelly and while the dogs wanted to investigate I rushed them past. I guessed what the clue meant and then had te find a likely suspect...got it! Tftc
Searched for a while today, checked the clue, too much gorse to get close to hint object (so maybe I didn't understand clue). Considered walking further but wasn't sure which way the path went and didn't want to end up on farm land with 2 dogs in tow so decided to head back down the hill and have another go at a cache I missed on the way up. I will be back for another look someday as it's a lovely walk up here
Cache #7 for this short mini-raid into Tawa on a glorious, sunny winter Sunday. Nice quick find, and I added a small "Guitar Pick" geocoin that has been travelling with me for far too long.

# 291. First time exploring this lovely piece of bush and collecting a few caches on the walk. This cache found without too much bother. I'm grateful for two things though - (1) that I had new Goretex-lined boots keeping my feet dry after walking through the long wet grass on the trail up here; and (2) that I didn't drag the kids up here last week when I first thought about it, as they would have been complaining non-stop by now! Nice views! Tftc!
First find of the year. Tried looking for this in October without success. Even went over the fence then. After reading the logs see the co-ords are out (about 7m) so just tried about there and could see it peeping from behind so easy find. Grass quite long in places at this time of the year and nearly tripped over on the way up while trapzing along the fence line. One foot caught the other trouser leg and the seam split beautifully. Dont trust warehouse sold made in china! Some mending to do now! TFTC
#239. Having found the nearby cryptic cache quite quickly, I thought this one would be easy. Alas we searched long and hard in many places, lots of them quite prickly. With family enthusiasm waning Mr GSEL did a final check of a few last spots and fortuitously the last option revealed the goods. Sweet. Wont have to walk back up here again for just one cache, although the views are well worth the walk. TFTC
PS The logbook was dry today.

#611 sometimes I can't see the wood for the .... Took much longer than it should have. Very wet log. TFTC
Have been seaching this area for ages and never come up with the cache. Went searching with muggle friends today. They found it in twelve seconds flat. I'm rather embarrised now and a bit scratched after heading up the hill on a mix precarious possum tracks and a few much safer offical tracks. Oh well TFTC anyway.
PS logbook is soaked wrote on the back cover to try make my signature legible.

#960 Another day babysitting the Treasure Hunters and a beautiful day for it. Very impressed that the little ones made it to the top with hardly a complaint out of either of them. The prospect of finding 'treasure' is a big motivator. Co-ords were several meters out but the hint was helpful after some keen observation from Aga. Logbook was saturated so I couldn't log it and unfortunately I didn't have any spares on me, sorry. Amazing views from up here and a stella day to enjoy a wander. TFTC!
Cache # 1,832 - Took advantage of a fine Wellington morning and no work today to go after one that I knew would be a little work and take a little time. Looks like I took more time than most people because, silly me, I didn't look closely at the surroundings as I approached the cache and relied on the GPS instead. I thought I knew what I was looking for, but arriving at the coordinates the appropriate object was not in sight. I looked behind everything visible that was even close to what might match the hint, even crossing over the fence several times, all without luck. I was about to give up when i decided to go past the GZ, and discovered the hint object I had been looking for about 7 metres out from the coordinates, and not visible from the coordinates. Cache in hand in seconds. Swapped out trackables. A good lesson learned, and at least it was a nice morning to do this. TFTC!
Nice find this morning after rain all gone. Tawa looking good below. Left behind TB to enjoy the view. TFTC.
The final of a small series. Great view of Tawa and environs from this spot. Cache quickly in hand. The walk back down was quite enjoyable. TFTC
Nice quick find, just what I needed after having to give up on the last cache
What a lovely spot! Thanks for bringing me up here. Took the TB as it's been sat here for a few months. TFTC!
Found during a spot of Saturday caching in the Tawa region.
Find was straightforward, cache was in order, log signed, then safely re-hidden, just as found.
TFTC found with team cacher Sweet P too

Do not go straight up from celebration, unless you love bush bashing with added dead gorse for extra fun! Too tired to think properly about the hint for a while... then it made sense. TFTC

If you go for this one at 8.30am on a sunny Sunday morning when it's rained the night before, there's a good chance that all the long grass will cause you to get very wet. And that's what happened when I attempted it today. An energetic trek to GZ and fortunately not too difficult to find, thanks to the clue. TFTC.
As we walked along the ridge from "Ye Trees" to this cache, we met up with selesi, who was busy studying her GPSr. She was also heading for this cache, so we accompanied her. We were very pleased that we had her company as she found the cache while we were both searching in the wrong area.
Always good to meet up with others in the hunt.

#4774. Good to meet up with Selesi on our return from Ye Trees (especially as she found this cache). Good to explore more of the hilly area overlooking Tawa. TFTC.
Headed up the hill today to get this last cache up this path. Nice walk, and had to rethink the final resting place after the obvious place yielded nothing but a prickle to the hand. Great view up here today. TFTC.
Stunning views on a nice Saturday morning.
Took a while searching around GZ looking at possibilities, and gorse.
Had another think and had a rough idea what I should be looking for so moved a little bit back from GZ down the hill and had a study.
That looks like it could be made out of 'very hard wood' so up and a quick rumage and then out with the stamp.
Had a look to see if I could get to Gone Native #4 from here but couldn't find a suitable track so guess it must be the explained entry.

Slippy on the muddy steep bits but rambled on to gain my just deserts. TFTC great views across the valley from a sheltered spot.

found it - I had to use some of the clues in the logs - great walk and view TFTC - watch the wet clay on the track - it is slippery
Had worked out the clue object on the way up to here, so was just a matter of sticking my hand in and grabbing the cache.

Great views today. Took about 10-15 minutes searching and had resorted to clue which I thought was straight foward. I thought this was going to be a DNF and was looking for a spot to sit and take in the view when I saw something that fitted the clue, instant find then . I had been searching probably a good 5-6 metres away.

#830 Came across from Ye Trees to this one on a nice warm and windless day. GPSr was pointing a few metres away but soon has the cache in hand after spotting the hint item. TFTC!
Quick find after seeing the relevance of the hint, TFTC, the walk was amazing with great views!
Banian and I were coming round from 'Celebration' when Banian spotted this on the GPS. It was only 300 mtrs up a hill- so we took a direct assult. BIG mistake. I am still pulling gorse heads out of me [XX(] anyway TFTC
Came up to this one from "CELEBRATION", The going was good until we hit the gorse! Must have put the difficulty rating up by a couple of stars. GPS had us searching a gorse bush so resorted to hint and soon had cache in hand. Followed the fence and track back down, and as we had parked on Oriel Ave we didn't have too far to walk. Great view from GZ. SL TFTC.
Awesome views!!
Nice walk on lovely sunny day.
Hint made sense once I stopped and looked properly

I got to GZ only to have a deja vu moment. I've been here before and found this cache but hadn't logged.
Came up from Celebration. There is the main track and the 'other' track. Tried the 'other' track as it didn't lose too much height. Realised the numbers were going up so tried to bush bash for a while. That turned to custard so retreated and continued on the track. Much easier. Finally along the fenceline and enjoyed great views. Found cache, now back down. Saw an old track going in the right direction so off we went. This ran out of course but we continued down the spur and before long were back near the car. Hooray! TFTC
I don't believe there is a track, and it was more than T3 my way Eventually made it to the top, from Celebration, and took a bit of hunting to find. Tried to find a track back down, but decided to bushbash. Sigh. Cheers Gav [9262]
Find #560. Our first cache find of the day. How many times have we been on this track now looking for caches, only to discover we'd missed one??? . No problem, however, since we needed something to stretch the legs. It was good weather and lovely views as we climbed the hill in the early afternoon. A bit slippery in places since it all the grass was wet (and will probably remain that way for the next 5-7 months...).
We arrived at GZ and began the search, hoping for a quick find. Our GPS was pointing into the gorse, so we gave it a quick look, but decided it wasn't there. It was only after 10 minutes of searching that something twigged regarding the hint, and there it was! We never noticed it when we arrived. The first find in over 4 months. +TB -spikey ball. SL TFTC.

Hot day for a find. great views though! Had problems, took a wee while to find and then once found, the clue made sense! TFTC
What a climb! Worth it though. Glad to find the cache eventually when I decided to look for it properly instead of letting the GPS mislead me! TFTC
took the direct route through the bush from celebration. quickly in hand. cache is a -ok. TNLN. SL TFTC
Decided to undertake this one after completing "CELEBRATION" GC1X8WH, so followed the track southwards. (GPS only showed it was just over 400m away but looking that a-way was straight up hill and bush bashing didn't look all that inviting.) Great walk through the bush along the track to find the start of the up hill part of the track. After climbing and climbing came out on the top to follow the fence along. After poking around in the gorse decided to reread the hint which quickly reveled the cache itself.
On the way up had spotted a possible track back to the car. After following the marked track came out back where the car was located, saving a long walk back around the way up. Cache good and dry. Thanks for taking me to a great bush area. 6th find for the afternoon. TFTC
