Sorry, I am archiving caches as they have problems. Final container has been stolen.

This geocacher reported that the cache might be missing.

I attempted this one yesterday, but there was no cache to be found. I even had a previous finder with me to confirm the location.

Finally managed to find this one today with Darkmadviking.
We couldn't quite make the puzzle work, so I contacted a previous finder, who fixed my coordinates.
Glad to have this one found.

Found with Injuryman who did the hard yards on the puzzle, though I helped where I could. Puzzle was just confusing and still not sure how it's supposed to lead to this GZ, but like many other finders I suspect we leant on the experience of finders past. But I'll take it.

This one was interesting. Worked with injuryman on this one a bit (well, he helped me). Heading home from today's trip, I thought I would grab it.
Easy find at GZ (almost worringly so) and I felt pretty dodgy looking around all these funny locations at a playground, I even had a "no officer, I am not looking for stashed drugs" speech prepared in my head, just in case. I'll leave injuryman to explain solving the puzzle, as he put the effort into it. When he finds it that is.

Was out and about with the FFLL ladies today doing some errands when I noticed the GZ of this one was nearby. I have had this one sitting in the solved/unfound list for quite sometime now so its about time to sign the lock and check it off.

Parked up nearby and the search was on, since the FFLL ladies had done this one quite sometime ago, off solo I went.

Took a couple tries to find the right location but soon had cache in hand. Log signed and cache replaced.

Thanks for the puzzle and cache placement Badja Smile

The first and only find of the day. I had a bit of an inconsistency in my stats and needed to find a cache today to clear off a calendar date. I was checking the map and noticed that I had not found this one yet, even though I had been very close to GZ the other day. I had solved this puzzle a very long time ago but hadn't found the cache yet. I decided this one would be my cache for the day.

I liked the theme of this puzzle, and how it used local features to construct the puzzle. I collected the info on a separate trip to said location a while ago. I needed a bit of a drive today so headed over to this one. I parked very close to GZ and then headed over to find the cache. Once there, I realized where this one was most likely hidden (I haven't seen that before!). It was a bit of effort to extract the container but I soon had it in hand. Log signed and cache replaced. Found 10:16 pm with LuckyL10n. Out to find a cache to keep my streak going. LuckyL10n is always keen to find another so this cache was supposed to be a quick one that could be done late at night now some of the info had been worked out. We arrived where we thought GZ was and started to look around. Our clue was now the one of three but we couldn't find anything that had the cache. Review of previous logs again and we thought we should be in the right spot but we couldn't figure out where or where the third was so being doubtful now we had the right one we decided to ignore the coords and look for another nearby feature with the view it maybe hidden there, after a walk looking for it we decided to check out google earth and look that way. Well after visiting another feature that was even worse in terms of locations, so LuckyL10n tried a PAF and we found we must have been in the right place the first time. So back to where we had the original GZ and then again we started to look around. We were checking another area and that's when I spotted yay another of the three with the torch lighting it up Then with a lot of confidence that this was it I headed over to it with LuckyL10n and yep there was the cache it had partially fallen out of hiding. I still had some difficulty getting the container out discovering that removing some objects would make it a little easier. We signed the log and then replaced the cache correctly. Thanks for the cache.

#3061 - 22:15; Out and about again with MrDamage for our nightly daily. It was a later start than usual, so having some idea of the facility this cache was close to, decided to make the grab. This has been on the iPhone top 30 closest to home for quite a while, so there was an added reason to cross it off the to do list. Made our way to GZ and wasn't quite what we were expecting, so after some adjustments, found ourselves somewhere with promise. Still no luck, so we made our way to a similar facility closer to the posted coords, but there was nothing there fitting the description and the hint. Time to PAF, which only confirmed we had probably been in the right spot, but had missed something. We returned to the previous facility and rechecked the earlier possibilities, again to no avail. Widened the search and were aboutr to call it quits when MrD's tireless efforts were rewarded when he located the missing third link, which was a little more overgrown than the other possibilities. Happy to have cache in hand, log was signed and cache returned to its hide in good order. TFTC Badja Smile

It has been a long time between find for this cache! I quite like to find these unloved caches, as a reminder that they are loved and can be found.

This one was a couple of months in the solving. I had to go to North Lyneham a few weeks ago to drop geodaughter off, so that was a good opportunity to pinpoint WP1. What an ugly structure in miniature! Then that week I headed to the original to take a look around, but could not find the described photo. As it happened, I knew there was a photo that I had not seen, but it was all much too hard on that day to get to it. about a month passed when I took some leave, and paid parking came into the triangle, so it was easier to leave it for a while. After confirmation from the CO that this was the photo in question, I headed back earlier this week when the going was easier to take a look.

Found some likely answers to the questions, but when plotting the GZ, found I was always in a front or back yard. The CO confirmed I had overthought one of the questions and made it more complicated than it needed to be. A simpler approach gave me some slightly better looking coordinates, but still ones that looked a bit odd, so I decided to pay a visit.

At my GZ, there was nothing of particular interest, so I expanded my field of view (by a lot) and found a very likely spot. Even more likely when I realised the connection between the description and the location. So after a couple of options failed, I was left with one more - and BINGO - my hand landed on the cache.

It was a VERY large cache for the hiding spot, so it took a fair amount of effort to get it out, and even more to get it back in - but the log was safely signed and cache rehid as requested.

I am not sure how I feel about this puzzle at the end - there was a fair amount of ambiguity in the directions, but I did like the GZ and hiding spot. But very pleased to get this one sorted for my 76th day straight of caching.

Hello back at you !

Just passing after catching the bus on a different route from usual to have a bit of a walk. All is in place. Sat on the bench and had a look at the cache contents. Looks like no one likes Duplo. Log all in tact. Took Hummingbird trackable as this cache isn't done very often so I will move it on. Hi to anyone watching this.

Out for a ride and cache with the geokiddies and we found this awesome park with a little bike track and we thought what a great spot for a cache! So we started looking in some places that we thought would be good to hide a cache and we found yours! It was so cool that I dropped off the hummingbird coin that I've had since February.

Found at last, marathon effort

We started this one with parkpre and had spent a long time at the intermediate site in Canberra. Eventually after looking at all the photos and lots of other items and areas of interest we called in at the help desk for some assistance and they were very helpful in directing us to what we needed to find. The final GZ also took some time and we were really pleased to find the container. Left TB. Thanks for a very educational and interesting puzzle.

What a great cache, I really liked set up and the idea of this one. We collected all the clues, some with the assistance of some friendly helpdesk people and then set about trying to sort out GZ. We had a few issues trying to sort quite where GZ was but after a bit of thinking and trial and error we found an area that seemed right. After rereading the cache page and using all information we had we finally found the cache. It's a great feeling to find a cache like this that is different and requires a fair effort and also that hasn't been found for quite some time. This cache is no longer unloved! A favourite from me.

This one was an interesting cache. We cruised the street to find the clue with no problem. The next morning we headed to the WP1 site. Jon was very helpful in pointing us in the right direction to find the right place to get our information for the next stage. We worked the numbers again and again with a couple of possibilities but eventually some deductive reasoning brought us to a possible spot. We sat, we crunched some numbers again, we re read the text, we tried a couple of possibilities with no luck. Reread the text again and I was convinced we were in the right spot. I took a little wandered and found the elusive option. And rattled out a cache!!!! It all comes together very nicely. A frustrating and enjoyable cache. I am glad we persisted and finally got it. A great team effort!!! And a fave from me

In attempt to attract a bit of attention to my cache I have placed 3 (count em 3) trackables in this cache. Trackables seem to be harder to come by around here these days so this could be a real find for someone.

Remember you can't do this without paying careful attention to all my words. I declare that even when you get to the final coordinates you have to go back to the text description and do some more deciphering. I have made the text a little more obvious too.

Out for a days caching with Steeba and Hoojar. This was one of a few finds we made today.

Our luck last find for the night and after eventually finding the one in three we soon had the cache in hand. The rain by now had become pretty heavy and depressing.
Thanks

Found with The Rats and Hoojar on long days run through Canberra.

This made 103 for the day in Canberra and was our last. A very difficult one- the first bit was sorted out quickly but the second bit took some time and an interesting visit to a place not visited in many years!

The photo was elusive and had to rely to a previous finder for a hint.

After a little search the cache was in hand. Thanks!

In the cold rain we finally found this one. Of course it was in the third place that we looked!

Had done most of the groundwork for the cache on Friday after arriving in the ACT and doing a bit of sightseeing.
We then made our way to GZ today before heading home. Quite enjoyed the puzzle.
GZ was located after an extended search before the hint on the cache page sent us to the location. Many thanks for the puzzle and cache Badja. Cheers! TNLN SL

This find has been a long time coming! We started gathering the info ages ago and it took a while to get it all together and to finally get out in the area.

Our coordinates had us about 20m off? Not sure where we went wrong. A nice safe hide too. Cache was dry and in good condition.

Not getting up this side of town very often, we had this one on the to do list for quite a while. Today provided an opportunity and the playground was deserted in the heat of early afternoon. A very nice spot though. Thanks Badja.

As fitzy says, we had been working on this one for a while. I can't remember if Adam was still playing football for Jerusalem or Kevin Rudd was still Prime Minister.........either way, it's been a while.

Lots of calculations and a bit of head scratching, but we came up with something. I went home and fitzy went to check/find the cache, so it was my turn to head back today and to do the same. Wow, that's a big cache in a little hole. Eventually grabbed it, walked away to sign the log and then replace it. It was at this point that the nearby dogs (who were up high and watching I might add) announced my presence. No chance of being stealthy now.........................

A quickish dash back to the car and I was gone. Hope the cache isn't after all the noise.

Thanks for the fun......................I think

I cheated on this a little and used Street View to solve the first clue. It really just confirmed what I thought anyway and so while in the city today MV and I set about collecting the next clue. Today was my first visit to this location and my inner-nerd wanted to spend more time looking around but we had a job to do and we set about finding what we were after. It turns out the best solution was to ask John who drew us a map of exactly where we needed to go. After chatting about one of the clues it turns out MV's literal interpretation was correct however we slipped up slightly on one of the others. The result meant later tonight our GZ was a little way off but we got it sorted and MV came up with the find. I don't know why the cache coords and cache don't line up, this is only going to frustrate people and I think it's an unnecessary down side to what is a very well put together cache.

Thanks,

R - B

Reperio at 1930. Well this is one cache that I have been intrigued about ever since I laid eyes on it. Went in search of the miniature structure a couple of weeks ago, and soon found my next destination. Earlier today while in the area, Rubik and I set about finding the next piece of the puzzle. What appeared to be a needle in a haystack soon turned out to be much less, as we cam across a muggle who knew exactly what we were after. Once we arrived at the required photo, we worked out the numbers, and decided to call past GZ later in the evening. Arrived at GZ after the sun had gone down, and were reasonably confident we were in the right area. After a 5 min search, we came up empty and couldn't see a place viable enough for a cache. We took another look at our numbers and realised one of them could be slightly out. Once we readjusted our numbers, they looked much better, and realised we had only been 30m away from our previous numbers.

So, by the light of our torches, we set about finding the cache. Knowing from previous logs that the cache wasn't located at the coordinates, we widened our search and started pin pointing likely places to hide a cache. After 10 mins of searching, the torchlight caught something we hadn't yet seen, and once we investigated it, we came up trumps. Can definitely see where confusion occurs with this one being so far from the coords, and after the find, the hints still weren't clear.

All in all, this has been one of the more memorable caches I've completed in recent times. I loved every aspect of the hunt to get to the cache. A real adventure.

Gratias Badja on a great cache.

The reason I was attempting this cache was that is was nominated for the 2009 caching awards, so while I was in O'Connor doing "Sustainable House" I swung by North Lyneham. I nearly had a fit when I saw it! Then on another day it was off to the real thing. Lots of security always makes me nervous when I am doing something secret Smile. I wandered around for about 45 minutes, but finally found the only photo of him in the place. I got 2 of the three details (or so I thought), but one eluded me and I ran out of time and went home. The next day I woke up and realised a detail that I needed must be in the photo so! I swung by on Pi day on my way to the event after a morning's caching around the traps and got the detail I needed. Then tried a few things. I had the right technique, but not the right birthday. That sorted and a like spot found I took note of all the previous controversy and emailed the owner with my co-ordinates. After a few emails back and forth I found I did have the right spot so went there today.

Just as I pulled up I spotted a playground, but being a weekday I thought I would be safe and then this lady walks up with a stroller. Of all the bad luck. Thought I would do a walk past to see if I could still get it, found the cache sport and realised that the trees nicely masked my activities so was able to make the find. My advice to future seekers would be that when you look at you potential location on google maps, use the map view. Not the satellite view.

Thanks to Badja for the cache. There was plenty of obfuscation, but it was all overcomable and while the final location is the exact location of the cache it was close enough to warrant a visit. I think, though, that the cache description should say that the calculated co-ordinates aren't the exact place, but that and all the information gleaned and provided should be enough to find the cache.

Wow – that was rather more of an effort than normal... Found the first WP OK, but the second one had me stumped for a while! Took two visits in fact, as parts were closed to the public on my first visit! Then I had troubles calculating the final location! Finally sorted that!

So this afternoon, with minimatt we headed off to GZ – of course, I was rather nervous at this stage! What with previous finders comments! But no – there were no issues... GZ wasn’t spot on, but close enough, and a little though had us finding the cache in under 5 minutes!

Thanks for a very well though out cache!

[slight spoiler] I have made a little adjustment so that the connection between the final coordinates and the clues is clearer. I don't agree that the final co-ordinates have to be exactly where the cache is hidden as long as the clues given clearly point to the cache location, once there. Although I do appologise for now adjusting twice. My observation with my first cache placement is that cachers are tending not to look back at the cache description. And take it easy guys sometimes we take it too seriously. I (and many intelligent friends) have stared at and manipulated Secret Squirrel's 'Lifes not Black and White' for months now without any idea how to solve it. I hope all of you FTF hounds had fun.

Badja, could we have a quiet word together please. Seriously. SINCERELY.
Could you please check your info about "him".
Could you please adjust your formulae and/or the original posted coords.
Sincerely, even with any adjustment for "his" details, the cache location is not at any remote possible combination of your formulas.
Also, very sincerely, GZ is meant to be "exact" not "somewhere" within 150m of where the formula calculate.
Also sincerely, please do not "enjoy watching" all peoples frustrations due to ....... (I have no idea what).

Sorry, but there are too many things amiss here.

That said, [red]SINCERELY, A GREAT CONCEPT.[/red]. After I worked out which "him" (not the "rightful" owner of the Latham tag), it was a very well put together cache (SINCERELY, I mean that), and a very good final hiding place - which I found at a 7am early morning raid, allowing myself lots of time to scour the whole area while free of muggles. Grabbed TB's.

SINCERELY, great cache idea, nice hide. Thanks, mtbikeroz.

And let History know I was looking for the GZ on Friday afternoon but was stuffed by the first set of Fawlty coords.

Further to my moral FTF yesterday (I had actually kicked the cache hiding thingo 20 minutes after the correction to the coords was posted), was back on scene this morning. Got it on my third grope. Signed the log, seemed harder to put back but it did pop in eventually. Not keen on hides in the vicinity of what was this was in the vicinity of but that is just me.

Now, my critique - I think this was a brilliant style puzzle, one that I am going to copy particularly at Waypoint 1. You'll find me this afternoon building a model of the Australian War Memorial out of matchsticks out in the front garden. You have been warned! I loved the cryptic clues, however I would like to see the GZ coordinates being somewhat more accurate as on what turned out to be my second assault on the GZ, I wasn't sure that I was at the right place. Maybe the listing could say something like GZ coordinates will have you within a 50m radius ?

Congrats on your first hide. My first puzzle hide suffered a little from enthusiasm creep - sometimes it is good to run your calcs and coords through a friend. But I did enjoy my smugness of being the first to suss the photo !

SINCERELY, from the guidleines, http://www.geocaching.com/about/guidelines.aspx#types, "The coordinates listed on the traditional cache page are the exact location of the cache." Whilst for a "traditional cache", the same applies for multi & puzzle caches, the final coords should be the "exact" cache location. Sincerely.

Wow! What a controversial cache!!!

Yes, sure, as far as the actual listing a mystery cache, the entry Final Location waypoint must be the exact coordinates of the cache, however that information is only viewable by the Reviewer and the Cache Owner. And that doesn't mean that any calculation has to put you smack on the cache, nor does it mean that additional clues can't be used to lead you to the cache through logical deduction.

However, as Basil, says, probably some kind of allusion to the nature of the calculations would have been a big help in avoiding the frustration for early finders. I must admit that when a calculation ends up on a house, it is usually the error of the hider, not a deliberate intention. I have been on the receiving end of wrong coordinates and wrong clues, and it is really frustrating. Being an FTFer can be exquisite but it can be agony when things go wrong. I would have made the same assumption that there was something wrong with the setup of the cache listing - instead of realizing that you had designed the hunt so that logical deduction was required out in the field more than once. I am certainly glad that I wasn't in the FTF hunt.

Whew, after having said all that, what did I think? I really enjoyed this mystery. Firstly, I was really surprised to see the object in the front yard in North Lyneham. Then I enjoyed the trip to the real thing. I went there during the week with CT and we only had 15 minutes to find the photo and we made a complete stuffup - searching the wrong side. Today I came back ready for a leisurely search, and prepared myself for buying a Hot Chocolate as a consolation prize if I didn't find it on this trip. I decided to abandon all previously held conceptions and keep a very open mind, and I soon had found the required photo even though I was a little uncertain.

Then it was off to the place near the GZ, which I confirmed as the correct location by the "number" in the hint. I groaned at first - wondering how I would find the cache other than brute force. However I sat in the car, and had a good read of the listing and extracted some ideas and clues on how to approach the search. TaDa! Found it almost straight away, and liked the big cache.

Well done Badja - enjoyed the detective work and the exercise of the brain.

I will claim a Moral FTF with this one.

Sussed the questions on Friday - very clever went for a drive - but discovered the problem with the original coordinates. Updated coordinates are better but I fear there may still be a problem.

edit - The bribery money for the guides was money well spent ! I warned them there would be a hoard of people looking for "him" over the weekend !

#246 and #2 JFTF: Joint FTF with linFox at 3:47PM. After finding the sculpture we headed of to the real thing. Spent a fair while doing loops until we settled on the right group photo when mtbikeroz comes into the area. The three of us work out the GZ co-ordinates and we are off. Bit more wandering around and we found the cache. A very interesting hiding location. A total trip time of 1 hour and 35 minutes. We were surprised that mtbikeroz drove past us around GZ and never came back.

ALLLRRRIIGGGHHTTTYYYYYY ver 2

There IS a group picture of [red]H[/red]im in the building, AND he WAS sitting on a specific numbered BENCH, AND the photo was taken specifically because of his impending birthday. But as I mentioned in my earlier log, that photo which I have found IS in the building, is NOT accessible by the normal public. The suburb owes its name to [red]H[/red]im.

But it is not [red]H[/red]im we are after, it is [red]h[/red]im. Ahhhh, with that information, I easily obtain the information, BUT ALAS,
The original coords are wrong,
The updated coords are wrong,
and/or
the formula given for S&E is wrong,
as ALL alternatives end up in houses in said suburb.

Looking forward to suitable corrections.

co-FTF with rubai!

We set off along the puzzle path, finding the miniature then moving off to the real deal. A long loopy search around and we ended up at what we hoped was the target photo.
As we discussed the details mtbikeroz turns up and we work out the details together. Eventually we come down to a few possible GZs, and off we each went to track it down.
We reach the calculated GZ co-ords and it doesn't look good, all of them were right on top of houses. We got out to look around, just as mtbikeroz drives by too, but no go on our co-ords. So before returning home empty handed, we decide to try one more nearby location.
After a less than hopeful search, rubai spots a suss spot and, aha! Got it!

Our co-ords ended up 100-200m off the GZ, maybe our answers were a bit wrong, maybe not. But still, got it in the end. Just think where a GZ might be in the general vicinity if you end up on top of a house.

Took the GC (that wasn't actually logged as in the cache).
Thanks!!
