We came out to pick up a solved puzzle in the area and decided to head for this one first. It was a long hot walk to GZ but we appreciated the breeze on the hill and the great views. It didn't take too long to locate the cache, we had to tip water out and unfortunately the log was too wet to sign. As this one has been archived we are logging with CO permission. We have removed the cache and will return it to the owner. Thanks for the cache willbuild!

12.20pm. A family reunion at Waitawheta Camp and a few campers with some energy to burn off saw us up here. A great walk with a view. Well worth a favourite point. Found the cache easy enough with spot on coords and then went looking for the nearby seat. Found it too just 100 metres away!!
Thank you. David.

Out for the day to find a few caches around the Karangahake Gorge, for a few specific caches for some challenges I'm working on. An early start this morning meant I could make the most of the day, and with a little luck find everything I was going for. All up it was a mostly successful day, with some great highlights and a run of DNF's at the end of the day the only downside. But as this is such a great place a return trip isn't so bad! A big thanks to all the CO's for the caches.

I've been meaning to head up here for a while but never had the time to really explore the area, but today I purposely made time to explore this neat place. Had read a few logs before visiting here and had worked out that the multi in the area was somewhere up this side of the area, so found a couple of the waypoints before heading up the valley to this cache. Like others lost the track a little bit but it was nothing to major to work out where I need to be. Took a few minutes of hunting at GZ to locate the cache. Great views from up here.

As we were already up here, Ric persuaded me to help find the Maratoto cache !
Lots of gorse and cutty grass here....!
Lost the wee track a couple of times but finally got to gz !
Ric spotted the cache in it's resting place !
This one has been placed a while ago ! 2009 ....
Lovely views...thanks willbuild

An enjoyable trek to get to the Maratoto Track viewing spot. Remember tackling the Monster a few years ago with GreenblAt and KiwiLeon. Some amazing views to be had from the top of the Monster, TFTC and memories.

Tftc! Decided to pop up here for a short walk with junior, before collecting the bigger kids from school, since it was such a lovely afternoon. We werent quite sure which way the track went once we hit the bush, so followed our instincts. Was rather overgrown in places, so not sure it was the actual path, but junior thought it was a great adventure, and the views at gz were absolutely stunning. Was surprised to see a helicopter parked up nearby, which took off while we were there, adding to juniors excitement! Smile

A great little outing. Will have to bring the family sometime and continue on the track.

I had decided to wear my gaiters for this walk. It was just as well I did as the bush and long grass was wet and they protected me very well. I went up via the very nice bush walk up and easy gradient for part of the way (an old tramway????) to the cache and back down the more open easy way.

Cheers for the cache.

Hot day wandering around the mine. Very interesting area.
Eat lunch in the shade beside GZ.
Glad I had the track I'd come up, marked on GPSr, or I would have lost the track on way back TFTC

498 Was going to walk the track over to Maratoto but weather was not the best so it was a quick trip up and back from Golden Cross.

12-Oct-14
This walk took me a little further than I was intending, my main focus being the Earthcache near by and with limited time. Wasn't really wearing the most sensible of shoes either for this track! But no denying this a lovely spot with a pleasant view. The log is quite damp and only managed to take the pencil provided (I emptied some accumulated water from the box also). Thanks for placing this cache Willbuild.

After 2 months of no caching today was the day to start again

noticed a unusal collect of natural items, discovered a cache hidden under it

Out for the Day with MCC (his first time caching for some while) and it was great to once again be travelling these Waikato roads, and what better time than early on a winters day with the sun up, high in the sky, and the sky all clear of any clouds.

It was a great day to be caching and the bonus was getting the remainder of the T2R series along the way as well as a few others we wanted to grab.

Nice and easy walk continuing on from the little multi and fantastic views across both sides on a stunning winters day

Thanks for the placement

Great little walk, and an interesting area. Awesome views too! There was still frost in the shade at midday. Pretty easy find - dropped off a trackable duck. Tftc

I figured it would be a waste to come out here for the earthcache and not come and grab the traditional up the hill, and I'm glad I did. What a view! TFTC!

Took the harder walk in as I had never done it before. Found the cache, took Tb's and dropped off TB's. then headed off track for an explore with my tramping buddy Curriepie. No time to look for other caches in the area tramping takes priority. TFTC

What a beautiful spot on this gorgeous morning - great walk - I have walked through and up the monster a couple of times but that was before I started caching - will have to do it again soon. TFTC

Ran up from the mine carpark with the sun beating down today. Took 13 minutes up and 8 back. I believe this to be the shorter, easier way to the top! Cache was well-hidden and replaced as found. Retrieved the geocoin. The view was better than expected, as low cloud and a touch of rain cleared from this morning. TFTC

I was going to tackle the caches in the area from the Golden cross side but the gates were still locked mid morning so had to come in from the maratoto end. So had to do a little extra walking. Great walk in. Thanks

The Freezer Mice strike again!!!
On a mission out here today to try and claim a FTF on the Golden Cross Earthcache, and thought it would just be plain rude if we didn't grab this one while we were out here as well.
As with all the other caches out this way, this one fitted in very well.
Turned out to be a pretty easy find too.
TNLN, TFTC.

Fabulous views out over both valleys this evening. Got to the cache after 7 pm and was pleased that there was a slight breeze as it was still very warm.

#1394

Pleasant afternoon for a walk, great way to spend Christmas eve with Mellee, found by Mrs Geckoh while Mr Geckoh ran the rest of the track to tackle the Maratoto monster cache.
This ticks off all the Waihi area Willbuild caches, waiting in anticipation for # 21!

First time I have been to this spot. Tempted to carry on to the Maratoto road end but it was too late in the day & the sign said the gates are locked at dusk. Saw the formidable Maratoto Monster which I conquered at Easter along with my three knights! TFTC

OmaGosh and I decided a bit of a walk was in order this afternoon, so this trio of caches in a bit of unexplored terrain for us seemed just right. A nice walk up from Maratoto side (if a bit muddy after the rain yesterday). A nice easy find thanks - the first of the three for us today.
