Great walk in along the beach from Doctors Point. Interesting coastline and great views from GZ.
Once again, we failed to find this cache on a previous visit, but it turned out to be missing. Today we found it, although it still took a little while, even although we were looking in the right place. TFTC

It's probably best to go to this place via Waitati, along the beach at low tide, through the hole in the rock and that way. The access road at the end of Osborne Road is totally boggy and no good for walking, especially with kids, not until the water goes.
A gorgeous day to visit this favourite spot again. If you get here at extreme low tide, you can walk over Canoe Beach and through the arches to get to Doctors Point. The pa site has been excavated, and there is no trace left of the ditches and palisades which defended it. A 1939 NZ Railways Magazine article tells the story of how Taoka seized Mapoutahi Pa in the mid-1700s:
The Massacre at Mapoutahi Pa

Sadly a DNF for us. Given our co-ords were spot on for the hint, we think the cache is gone, as we searched long and we thought thoroughly.
A lovely place to visit. 7 other groups here today.

This is a great, and historic, spot to take the family for a day out/picnic etc.
The co-ordinates were spot on, but where else would it have been? The clue meant nothing to me, so maybe it is no longer relevant?
The cache had fallen to the ground, and was in plain sight, but I put it back on it's "perch".
+ Geocoin.

I heeded the caution but close to the beach found a parked up Toyota Corolla so maybe I should have braved that first pothole, but better safe than sorry. Also would have missed the baby possum that was playing on the track. They are a scourge but it was hard to be spiteful on such a calm and restful evening. Took a photo which I'll upload - hopefully you can appreciate how close I got (camera has no zoom).
Didn't linger long at GZ (magnificent spot) as it was getting quite dark by the time I got there. TFTC.

Took the big black truck as far as I could - great fun through the pluholes at the start. Watched another attempt with amusement. Truly this is one of the most amazing cache sites in NZ. DO IT. The beach to the left of approach to GZ is just so enchanting. Thanks for taking me there.
One of my favourites I think... thanks for bringing me here I sat for ages and enjoyed the panoramic views..God's glorious, majestic and awe inspiring creation.. what more can you ask for on a Sunday caching and contemplating.
FTF. Used to have a cache here myself but it was muggled twice so I archived it. Drove right down to the beach in a 4x4 but the first mudhole would stop a 2WD car. Some repair work appeared to be underway however.
