Found in good condition, but on the ground so I replaced it where I think it was meant to go.

13-Feb-24
We were staying down at the Paekakariki holiday campsite for 10 days and i did get to visit some of the caches in the area , This one i had no idea of how to solve although i was so close and so i called in some help to solve this and so i set out to locate it . Hmmm . i went up where i was ditected by my GPS and searched and searched as well as scratched etc but , of course , i knew better than my trusty GPS , and so i looked where i thought it would be . I came back out to the grassed picnic area and thought should i attempt it from a diff, angle ? NO so i sat down and did i bit more research. co ords are accurate and it was now at ground level and so when i went back i had a little more idea of what i was looking for and so i followed my GPS , slowly and carefully and there it was ! so after spending ... wasting .. one hour searching because i knew better! i had it in hand , signed and returned to its placement . I took nothing and left nothing , and i took a photo of what i would call the pot.. the pickle pot or the natural pot like shaped hollow . Thank you for this puzzle.

We had this worked out at home in advance convinced we would pick this up on our way. Our first time in the park we didn't particularly feel like going off the path "down" so we set this for today. Parked at the close by car park. Found lovely dunes, pieces of path fallen due to erosion and soon spotted 2 picnic benches we could sit at. Soon after the hunt and gras whacking began. After spotting several traps we decided that while one of us distracted the toddler , the teen would go for the cache. And so he did. Admin done and on we went. Tftc , FP for bringing us here.

A nice straightforward puzzle. Once things were identified and the math done, a plausible coordinate fell into place like a cascade of dominoes. A parking area was nearby, so we utilized that one, and I began the short walk following the orange line.I had planned a route based on the map, but it was not quite how I thought when I got there. So I walked the parameter of the general area to the highest elevation I could find to scout the easiest route to the cache from above.Distances were about even between two routes that I liked the looks of and chose the one that seemed less dense to bash through.A bit scratchy here and there, but not bad. And that's why I brought some long sleeves today. After a couple of minutes, I was at 0-/+.It's true that the cache is at the base and is no longer above GL.Remarkably, the log is nice and dry.In my mind, I thought the cache was going to be a pickle jar, but that shall remain a figment of my imagination. Cheers.Sleepy was here!

I finally put it in the plan to come and explore this side! Interesting spot and no one around. TFTC!!

A bit of a scramble but got there and found what we were looking for!

24-Jan-22
Junior enjoyed the solve on this one a while ago. Spotted from GPS what we thought looked like an easy path to GZ. Turns out we were right, searched around for a while according to hint, then read previous logs about it being at ground level instead soon had cache in hand. We then proceeded to have a good feed of delicious wild blackberries!
Thanks!

A more straightforward puzzle that it would initially appear but it would be easy to get something wrong. Although my coords didn't look promising initially, logs talking about bush bashing suggested they may actually be right. I didn't come at the cache from the best direction at all and that was an extremely bush bashy affair and even a bit of crawling! I walked right by the cache without realizing while my GPS was still settling then after doing a small loop I ended up by a reasonable place to put a cache with the GPS saying "1m". I looked down and there was the cache! This is one place you accurate coords are essential and that seemed to be the case there. I exited from the cache location in a different direction and followed a frankly obvious path back out into the open. It would have been a lot easier if I went in that way. Oh well. An unexpected location for sure but I'm pretty pleased to have found it with no real drama. TFTC.

Solved this while sitting in the hot car after the last find. Not too challenging -- just needed enough care to not make a silly mistake! I walked the long way round and approached from the pique-nique tables. On site I read some old logs and discovered it's now at GL rather than what it says in the hint. Then it was a reasonably quick find without too much trouble from blackberry - that came shortly with my next couple of finds. TFTC.

Found the long way around! Reading previous logs was really helpful. Enjoyed the puzzle too.

Solved on train from Wellington. Quicker find than expected at GZ, coordinates bang on. All good, tftc!

21-Dec-20
This was a tricky sucker. Pretty tough for a newbie family. It didn’t help that we tried to approach from the path above GZ. That didn’t work. Once we got back on the coastal track we spotted the pickle pot sign and then knew that we were in the right place. Four of us ventured in and began the search. The hint about the container being above ground level slowed us down. Eventually we found the resene test pot well hidden behind foliage at ground level.
Very happy to make the find. Our friends second find.

A little scratched up and about to give up when i found it. Enter into bush from 1st picnic table area to avoid most of the blackberry.

#7278. Decided to head up to the Kapiti Coast today to pick up a few caches. Lovely early spring weather up here (even in Aug). Sunny and even felt warm in my winter clothes. I only noticed this puzzle last night. Decided to get Mrs GSEL to count them at the same time and as we had matching numbers I felt confident I had the coordinates correct. Interesting place. Clearly used to have an access road to the Pickle Pot but a gate now blocks off the route and its really a pathway rather than a road. As I closed in on GZ I saw the blackberries referred to by others. Even with longs on it was a bit scratchy (later I found a way out that avoided blackberries altogether). Once at GZ I found the cache in the third place checked. Excellent coordinates helped. Signed the logbook and replaced the cache as found. Thanks bkj97 for the puzzle and the cache.

No luck for me today.

There are times in one's life when you glance at a message on your phone, and just know that you life is about to become enriched with another adventure!

Such was the case this morning, when I got a message "Are you interested in a FTF?" So 50 minutes later my son (ThatWeirdGuy04) and I were in the centre of Paraparaumu on an adventure with another couple of cachers.

After all that excitement was over I thought I would take the opportunity to try for a couple of Puzzle caches that I had solved quite a while ago but hadn't gotten around to finding.
This was the second of those, and I remember enjoying solving this one although with no Geochecker or even a Checksum I could never be sure if I had truly solved it or not.

That had become apparent many months ago when I had my first attempt at finding this one. After a fruitless search back then I had contacted the CO who had kindly put me right on a wrong element in my solution. I hadn't engineered an opportunity for a second look until today, and at least this time I would be aided by ThatWeirdGuy04.

And thank heavens he was there, because I would probably be logging a DNF otherwise. We had been searching for about 20 minutes, and discovering that this place wasn't only a Pickle Pot but also a Prickle Pot and we were more than a little damp and frustrated by now. But he wanted to persevere, so I gave him my solved co-ords to put into his phone whilst I read previous logs. It was a combination of both these things (his GPS and my reading of previous logs) which combined when I spotted the cache lurking beneath a typical piece of caching camouflage.

We were very happy to find this one. The lid hadn't been properly replaced previously, but the container had not let any water in so the contents were fine. The log was swiftly signed and then the whole thing replaced as found.

Thank you for the fun Puzzle.

On a planned geocaching trip with specific targets.
1: The final 2 caches to fill my D/T grid
2: The last 5 caches available (all in the South Island) to meet the NZ Jasmer challenge GC4R9Z6
3: Get as many caches as possible in a day (Solo)
I had no timetable and only a vague route (Christchurch - Dunedin- Invercargill). So after 20 days of sleeping in my tent/car I arrived home having traveled 4500km and visited some interesting places. Met some great people. I had found over 650 caches. That was a lot of park. Jump out out. Find cache sign and return. Then on to the next. All this done by myself. Also attended an event and had 2 FTF
Mission 1 and 2 were achieved and I had a best day of 153 caches. All this done by myself.
Day 1 Hamilton to Wellington 31 caches.
I left Hamilton at 6am and got to Paekakariki at 4pm. I thought as I was in the area I would have another go at this one. I had solved it some time ago but did not find it on my last visit. Came back just on dark and searched the same places again with no luck. So I ignored the hint and under torch beam I spotted it. It was at GL and between 2 dead trees stumps . So pleased to tick it off. Thank you for the placement

17-Dec-18
Could not find coordinates.. whenever s-coordinate was right, E would be wrong and the other way around.. walked to circles before I gave up.

29-Oct-18
Very good!
Found reasonably quickly - puzzle co-it’s were good. Cache is clean & dry, looks more like a test than a pickle.
Thanks

08-Sep-18
Solved this literally years ago but never got round to looking for the cache so this was my main target for today
The parking waypoint is no longer available, this didn't concern me as I was using public transport and walking, but for information of others the closest you can get with a vehicle is S 40 58.235 E 174 57.681. There is very limited parking space there and it would be advisable to ensure your vehicle is secure.
A bit of a hunt for the cache but once the GPS settled down I discovered I was standing only a metre or two from the cache and not too far from where I had put my backpack down.
A relief in the absence of a geochecker to find I hadn't made any silly mistakes to put me in a pickle , though I was fairly confident having checked and double checked.
As mentioned by an earlier finder hint 2 does not apply.
TFTC.

Wandering through the surrounding area today, collecting caches as I go. Took some time, and an adjustment to the last puzzle number, but got there in the end. Signed the nice clean and dry log sheet. TFTC

This was not quite how we thought the Pickle Pot would look like. There are so many of these sheltered picnic areas in this park.
+ a glass pebble, - nothing.

04-May-18
Nice easy puzzle, took longer to find the cache, was about to give up when I read that I'd managed to avoid blackberries and that led me in a different direction, log a little damp despite being double-bagged, but still able to be signed, two dogs had a run around in the pickle pot!

07-Apr-18
Enjoyed doing this puzzle and was very pleased to find the cache just on dark this evening. Enjoyed a lovely sunset on the way to this find. Cache in good condition. Thank you for setting it up.

09-Feb-18

The marked parking point is no longer available as the track leading to it is closed to vehicles, but it's only a short walk ftom the nearest parking spot.
Second part of the hint didn't apply as I found the cache easily at ground level. I signed the log and replaced the cache where I found it.

Another solved but unfound cache off the list!

5 November 2016 15:44.

Pondered and puzzled over the pixels ages ago. At the park today, and post-race, the potential for partaking of the possibility to pick this up presented itself during a pause in the process. Purloined my sons push-bike and pedalled the pathways to the perimeter, where pedestrian pacing was prudent. Perambulated, whilst pondering the position to place that perturbing pottle, possibly? Potentially? Prize! Penmanship, placement and back in time for the prizegiving.

TFTC, another one for the DGSC challenge.

Antipodienne found after much bush bashing and prickles. Cache right on gz but may have fallen from grace — at gl and wouldn't be able to see sky. Replaced where we found anyway.

18-Jun-16
Long, frustrating search through blackberry finally yielded cache. GZ correct but a stretch to say you can see sky. Glad we were successful. TFTC

27-Jan-16
Bushbashed to what looked like a reasonably obvious location given the hints but couldn't find a cache anywhere

13-Sep-15
Had solved this many months ago but last time I was up here forgot to bring the coordinates with me. Return trip today and after walking along the beach with family headed over to pickle up me a cache. This one certainly had me in a pickle as didn't wait long enough for GPS to settle down and managed to over shoot game zone by quite a margin (some of these dunes are quite steep). Eventually on a slow back track located the little pot. Thanks for the puzzle and thanks for the cache.

25-May-15
I've misplaced the little book, where I write down the answers to puzzles that I've solved, so I was very excited to discover that I'd loaded the final coordinates to the Pickle Pot months ago when I was doing random mystery caches in anticipation of such a trip. But alas, we didn't find the pot of gold. Either my cords are wrong or we didn't look hard enough. At the end of the day, coffee seemed more important (sorry!).

02-May-15
Solved quite a while back, but first time I was able to go and claim it. A bit of shrub bashing and the cache was found right where the GPS said it would be. Ninth of my personal "15 caches for 15 years of geocaching" challenge for today. TFTC

03-Apr-15
Found quite quickly, co-ordinates to GZ were spot on. QE park is a great asset, lots of walking tracks and places to picnic. Tftc.

20-Mar-15
Needed somewhere to exercise the geo dog after work so thought I'd finally come up and grab this one which I'd worked out quite awhile ago. Nice easy puzzle, just took a bit of patience, especially since I decided to double check all my countings. The cache itself took a bit of searching, it was just a matter of looking everywhere until it appeared in front of me. Wasn't covered by anything but surely no one else will be this far off the path Smile TFTC

20-Mar-15
Found on a nice quiet evening with no muggles about. Thanks for the cache! Smile

Cache in order, log signed; all re-hidden just as found.

Cache # 1,888 - Had lots of fun solving this puzzle several months ago, but been putting off visiting the cache site until the right day. Today was a brilliant day in Kapiti, so visited with Violet Butterfly and Astro Hunter. A bit prickly getting to the cache itself, and found at GL. Tipped a bit of water out, but log is fine in the double bag. TNLNSL. TFTC.

Found this today withViolet Butterfly and The Wandering Dragons. A bit wet in the undergrowth, with some stickers too. No problem at the coordinates, which were dead on. Thanks!

Beautiful day caching up in kapiti. Great little multi to start with. Tftc

10-May-14
Had spots before my eyes doing this one but quickly solved. Came up the coast to retrieve and due to the helpful hint I soon had this one in hand. Nobody around at this time of year even when the sea was dead calm. TFTC

23-Apr-14
Thought I'd solved this before but couldn't find the solution so had to get all dotty again. Coords confirmed and a solo find thru the blackberry while the guides played hide and seek. Dried out moisture in container. Log slightly damp but fine to write on.

20-Apr-14
We found this after a few minutes search a bit damp but serviceable. Tftc.

20-Apr-14
No problems thanks for the cache.

10-Jan-14
Didn't attempt to find, just noted own the co-ordinates for another day and a blitz on bkj97 puzzle and multicaches.

09-Nov-13
Solved this from afar 3 & 1/2 years ago and today was set aside to go and sign it off. I quickly homed into the GZ coords and initially misunderstood hint 3. When all else had failed to turn up the cache I tried elsewhere and this time the penny dropped. The cache was found not nestled, and wet inside. After drying and signing the cache was replaced where the I am sure the CO left it. Removed what looked like a live bullet from the cache!!!! [:(!] Who left that there?

24-Aug-13
Spent time at what we expect was GZ, but we didn't turn up the goods on this occasion. That happens.
Sad

06-Jan-13
Got the coordinates right, but the cache was located very much off the beaten track. Nice day at the "Pickle Pot". Eventually managed to find the little container in the depths of the jungle - it seemed a bit like that! Pleased to succeed with this one. (In doubt at one stage!). TFTC.

25-Nov-12
A bit of gorse and blackberry but a good cache. Nice picnic spot too. SL. TFTC.

21-Oct-12
12.50pm. More of a "Prickle" pot today. Got the coords right first time but it still took too long to find. Was following the hints but the hiding place when I eventually found it did not suit hint 2. Hint 3 was OK. Left it where I found it as I am not sure where it should have been. A favourite point fromm me for all the effort. (Yours and mine!!)
Thank you. David.

31-Dec-11
The weather was not favourable for caching today but I was keen to get another puzzle cache completed before 2011 came to an end.

The puzzle was a good idea and unlike any I have solved previously.

The walk to GZ was spoilt a little by long, wet grass but cache is in a nice place. I may have to return to Pickle Pot for a picnic.

23-Dec-11
Spotted a slight (but obvious) error in calculation, & quickly amended it. Then found cache without any problems - bit of a scramble to get to it - ouch blackberries!!! Thank goodness for little hands! Left a pet rock - a bear cub. TFTC

06-Nov-11
A tricky wee puzzle to get right!
After the drizzle, the bush bash to GZ was rather damp, and had wet feet and trousers for the rest of the day.
Well hidden, I searched the correct place initially but didn't find it (was looking for a bigger container) but after the hint was decoded, it was a quick find but more difficult extract.

Find #609. Our second find for the day - after eating some lunch at the Paekakariki Cafe. I think we easily win the award of getting into the biggest pickle while searching for the Pickle Pot cache! I had solved the puzzle a month back when I was bored and placed the corrected coordinates into GSAK - so today, through all of the rain followed by sun followed by rain, we went looking for this cache.

We initially set off on the Te Araroa pathway for 200 metres and navigated through a mizmaze of convoluted, grassy and wet tracks before reaching the location we believed the cache was in - it seemed perfectly acceptable for a cache spot, just off a track and near some trees, so we began looking. Only after we became increasingly more frustrated after 10 minutes of searching we looked at the recent logs and what they said didn't make any sense at all, we weren't in the right location! [B)]Smile

So, back to the car we went, and in a fit of mathematical enthusiasm we got the iPhone out and re-equated all the answers. Only to discover I'd made 2 (sic!) mistakes in the final coordinates. Oh look, it's actually only 70 metres away! Now down to the new location. Hmm... this seems more promising - there's a geotrail here. We arrived at GZ and began our second search - not much luck at first, but we turned around and searched a slightly different tree and there it was.

A very enjoyable (despite however long it may have taken us) puzzle, search and find. Cheers Bkj97! SL TFTC.

Great wee spot for a picnic, but we didn't bring anything!
4/8 for a days family geocaching at QE Park.

22-Apr-11
We solved this puzzle over lunch before setting out on our geocaching hunt with Mr and Mrs sfortyoner. What a nice warm picnic spot. The muggles must have wondered what us crazies were doing but I don't think there is much chance of this cache being muggled.

22-Apr-11
Found by Mrs fortyoner as I stood perplexed a metre from it. near enough in plain view. Dang. Curious muggles enjoying the sun in the Pickle Pot stared at us as we came and went. Decided the best approach in future is to go around with a divining rod. A forked stick. Acceptably crazy is better than acting weird.

17-Apr-11
Great to finally get this off my to do list as I had solved the puzzle some time ago but left my notes behind on the last couple of times that I have been in the area. An easy find with good coords, the 3rd of 10 found while out for an afternoon of caching with Master Miester. TFTC

Solved the puzzle back home in Auckland, and stopped by at the Pickle Pot to make the find today. GPS led us on a merry bush bash to GZ. Took quite a bit of searching before we spotted the well hidden cache. Much easier route out again. Thanks for showing us this spot.
