Great Northern escape 2022 Day 49. Atherton to Cairns (again) travel day. It was time to return to Cairns to complete the Multis required in my calendar. Before I left I finished a few caches around Atherton I had been saving and then headed via Yungaburra to Cairns. I did the Spider series along the way.
The day started with three caches along rifle range road. No bikes around this morning in this area, so a quick dash across three sections of rack to the likely looking place that held the cache.
Thanks for the cache Danielc

We woke up this morning and the predicted rains hadn't turned up yet so we thought that we would have a bit of fun and try our luck with this series of caches.
The roads were a little bit slippery in places , more than we expected when we started the track bunt not enough to cause any damage to the track or concern to us.
We really had a great time along here but believe the scenery would have been a lot better if we hadn't been in cloud and mist for most of the day but it was still a very enjoyable mornings drive.
We managed to find them all except no 5 which managed to elude us.
We apologise for the basically generic log and it by no means takes away from our gratitude for placing this series.
We had to wait for a mountain bike rider to sort himself out before we could look for this one and happily it was found in the first place we looked.
Thanks again Danielc for showing us this area.

Found it! Out and about with WayneO. The glass jar container that this was in was smashed so we replaced it with a plastic bottle that we had in the car. TFTC
Quick little find for the geokid, just a heads up the glass jar is broken so be careful, TFTC
Snake guarding the cache, be careful!
We went for an afternoon geocaching drive and here was our first stop. The cache is easy enough to find but today also inaccessible thanks to a brown tree snake curled up against it. We thought she might not be real but as we carefully lifted the rock she blinked sleepily up at us. We're no fans of photo logs and only do it under special circumstances like this.

Fangsoki and I checked out of our Cairns accommodation this morning, and began our journey to Atherton, where we will be staying for the next couple of days. We were near our accommodation now but still a little early for check in, so decided to duck off and grab this one while we waited.
An easy drive to GZ, we parked at the sign and wandered over to find the cache in a very likely hide, albeit a little more of an exposed version of the hide than expected, with a bike track right here. Obviously this hasn’t been an issue however, with the longevity of this cache.
Thanks for the cache Danielc.

1MinnieMoo and I had time for one more cache before we had to check in at our accommodation at Atherton - this was it.
We parked up and made our way to GZ. We instantly found the prize safe and sound. We signed the log and rehid the cache as found. We will be continuing this series tomorrow. TFTC Danielc

Found by hubby, again! Good place to hide a cache and thanks for taking us here. Placed a little souvenir in there.
Lovely place to visit. Lots of tracks around today! Knew where to look as soon we saw it
Lived in Atherton for most of my childhood and have never been here, thanks for bringing me out!
On a caching afternoon in the tablelands. We went for a drive and after a quick stop we located the cache. TFTC.
Love the area. Old girl zigged when she should have zagged. But all in a morning of caching
Found with orth71 on a caching trip in Atherton.
Lovely morning out battling all the mountain bikers.
Must be a very popular activity up here on the Tablelands.
Mrs geocacher went to high on a turn and had a spill but cache located and signed.

2 days in Atherton, trying to get some good sunny weather before heading further west. Not so unfortunately, got wet a couple of times grabbing the caches.

Found it Logbook is looking a bit past it, if anyone is a mould fan come find this lovely specimen. Tried to dry, needs replacing
I have a really bad habit of not reading descriptions until after the fact lol. Lucky for me there was no shooting being conducted today . NEF TFTC.
What a way to end 2017. We have started on the RRRR series. The log book was damp (sorry we didn't have one to replace it - perhaps being better prepared for geocaching is something to consider for 2018) and we grabbed the travel bug. No muggles on bikes as we dashed in and signed the log. Thanks for the cache Danielc.
Currently camped at Herberton, not much more time on the tablelands, but caching a few more smilies..... Started this series, this afternoon, didn't know we would finish it. Found and left a springing tb
Travelling around Australia using Geocaching as our Tour Guide.
Staying in Walkamin for a few weeks, today we headed back to this area to finish off the RRRR series and a couple of extra caches jumped on the list aswell.

TFTC. We had just found M is for... and decided to continue up the track to attempt part of this series. The geo vehicle is a small SUV with plenty of clearance so the road was not really and issue. Stopped at this one for a quick and easy retrieve.
I'd meant to grab this before hitting the trails, but forgot and grabbed it once I'd worn myself out instead. There's some good tracks about here!
There's been a bit of fire further up the valley, but around here is still green.
Thanks for the cache!

Out on the FNQ Wilderness Ride we spent a day in the MTB Trail having fun. I managed to get this one but was having way too much fun on the bikes and missed some of the others higher up
This area is a construction zone atm & there's a no entry sign before the gate. The GC is all good. TFTC cheers
Today we travelled from Mareeba to Rocky Creek.
We did a tiki tour of the town up the mountain to Herbeton & return.
Picked up the TB from here. Left one as well.
Thanks for placing this cache Danielc

Found this one near the trail we ride at the Atherton Mountain-bike Park, have ridden past this one quite a few times! TNLN. Thanks for the Cache.
While spending 16 months abroad, travelling through all states of Australia and also having a two months break in Thailand I did a lot of geocaching.
After many, many caches accompanied by the strong will not to write any standard logs, I ended up with more than 1000 finds, all waiting for an official log. After intense considerations and carefully weighing my options, you now receive this special limited edition numbered log.
This is my unique non-standard log #80.
Thanks a lot Danielc for taking care of this cache, showing me this place and turning my travels into an adventure!
Greetings from Germany.
Keep on caching!
Theatralis ?

That’s roughly the route I travelled:
Germany – Sydney – Cairns – Cape Tribulation – Armidale – Sydney – Canberra– Melbourne – Tasmania – Melbourne – Boinka – Adelaide – Alice Springs – Darwin – Adelaide – Melbourne – Perth – Rottnest Island – Denmark – Perth – Melbourne – Thailand – Brisbane – Sydney – Adelaide – Boinka – Melbourne – Germany
---
And finally some statistics:
Days abroad: 51
Days of geocaching: 31
Geocaches abroad: 80
Geocache of the day: 1/3

We had some fun sneaking past a family of mountain bikers to find this easy cache! Thanks for the cache Danielc
A few days away at Mt Quincan and geoD insisted that he was taking his mtb. GeoP was enjoying a long overdue catch up with a school friend while geoD was playing at the mtb park. From his reports geoD thoroughly enjoyed these tracks and wants to go back again.
Thankfully there were no muggles to interfere with a quick find, sign and replace.

This was a good little road thru different kinds of forest.
At the start there was plenty of mountain bikers, still the cache is safe but its close.
All up from here.
Thanks for the hide

A nice quick and easy find today. Well, apart from the one hour walk to get here from Atherton. But on such a beautiful bright winter’s day, that's no hardship.
Took a little funky car badge. Left a spinning top and jumping frog.
Despite being 1pm on a weekday there were lots of MTBs heading up the tracks – young and old, locals and visitors, all loving it.
Thanks Danielc for placing this cache!

Our last find in the series. Many thanks for a great day's caching Danielc. We had a ball!![^]
After "Top of Mt Baldy" I though I should do an easier one to let my heart rate drop. Mountain bike riders everywhere. Hundreds of them. I had no idea this was here. Thanks for bringing me here. As a bike rider I love this valley. TFTC Danielc.
