Tftc - found it strewn around GZ. Collected the parts and placed where we though it was meant to be however it is soaked.

Caught the express train to Lithgow while waiting for my car to be serviced in Penrith. Walked up here from the station. I knew it was going to be very steep but nothing quite prepares you for the steepness when you get there. Great spot looking down from the top. Very tricky to hang on and blalance while trying to reach for the cache, but somehow eventually got there. TFTC
Parked at end of Georgie Street, and followed the trail up the mountain. Tough hike up but once up, the five caches were mostly on flat walking tracks. Brought my water bottle with me and had coolish weather. Took about five and a half hours to walk to the five caches. This was the toughest to find up here, and difficult to get to. Signed and replaced. Fav point. Tftc
Found Been meaning to get here for a while and today it finally happened. Such a lovely memorial! TFTC!
Found whilst working on the old 132KV powerline. Our leading hand was one of the firefighters who worked with the blokes who lost their lives
Great spot!
And thank you Ted and all volunteer firefighters out there! Also all service personal!
Very much appreciated and never forgotten!

TFTC Thank you for going to the effort of hiding this cache. You have shown us a new place and have helped make geocaching an enjoyable activity. An interesting location and an opportunity to think of the souls lost in our bushfires.
A seven-hour 17 km walk on a sunny Spring day across four Lithgow ridges with rogerw3 guiding the way.
After the climb to Scotchmans it was good to reach the near level fire trail. Stark against the sky on a wall-like rock formation was the large white cross ... and around the bend in an underhang below the cross was the memorial to the fallen fire fighter. A pause for thought. The Memorial cache was a respectful distance away, requiring a nimbleness of foot for the log signing. TFTC

Pretty sure the last log should have been a find. I'm sure they signed the logbook? Nice hide, took a little while to spot. TFTC,

My fellow cachers (Team Canary x 3, Bikerbuddy, Garks, Nickoheap and pjmpjm) were kind enough to bring me to this cache despite them all having found it in the past, thanks. And thanks to Roger for placing all these great caches.
Nice to bump up the find numbers away from home (thanks Cookie for the lift)
Was able to leave a pair of disposable scissors, but took nothing.
TFTC Rogerw3 (will have to get a series out in the Manning Valley for you to come up and enjoy!)

1445 Along with Manning Valley Mountain Biker I thought this an appropriate place for a geocache.

teamfraggle's first ever cache find which was rather exciting, but sad to hear of the firefighters who lost their lives. RIP Ted & Col.

A great way to remember our firefighters. This was a clever hide, had to do a bit of rock climbing to find the cache. TFTF
Sure their must be an easier way up here. Having survived black Saturday in Victoria with many lost around me I never know what to say. But it did bring a tear to my eye. Tftc
Thanks rogerw3. It is good to be reminded of these sacrifices, especially since they make it possible for us to work and play safely in these areas. I found the cache neatly tucked away and very well stocked and waterproof while working at the nearby trig station. TFTH!
Thanks for the information supplied in the cache as we saw the crosses and wondered who they had been placed for. Such brave volunteers.
This is a sombre yet beautiful place. It is hard to imagine the fierce intensity of such a fire. The cache is nicely placed away from the memorial, yet in a spot that appeals to the adventurous.
Sad historic site yet so peaceful I remember the day this happened, we were fighting off a fire an a mountain close by. We clearly picked the hard way up but probably a good idea to ward off diabetes since we just ate a bunch of maccas! Tftc
Rogerw3 caches always seem to bring me to a different part of the world previously unexplored.
Another historic area and scenically beautiful to boot.

A really lovely spot here and very sad too. I was really glad we'd walked to this spot rather than driven in. What a great area for walking on these fire trails and it was so much fun having another 8 cachers to chat to along the way
I was part of a group of nine, led by Rogerw3 for the Lithgow 20 km walk for the GCA leap year event.
I was walking with Alfyboy when the road led us to this rock. I think we were both surprised to see the white cross sitting atop the rock, but then I remembered the name of the cache. We worried about retrieving the cache and signing the log book for everyone first. After I'd returned the cache I joined everyone at the memorial, and heard Roger and pjmpjm explaining about the people who had died here trying to take shelter from a bush fire. It's a sobering thought, and was hard to imagine for us, walking on a cool day that would later turn to heavy rain.
Thanks for taking us there Roger.

From a distance I was wondering why there was a cross on top of the rock and then Roger filled us in on the sad story of Ted Hughes. We placed a stone on the cairn to thank Ted for his sacrifice.

Continuing our 20km walk, we came up to this GZ with Bikerbuddy and I looking for the cache. I noticed a nice spot where it could be and he made the climb and the find. We went thoguh the cache and the log was signed. Interesting sad history here and more information is in the cache as well. Thanx rogerw3 for another great cache. TFTC

This was the second cache we found on our 12km loop around the hills of Lithgow, with my two youngest boys, pjmpjm and rogerw3.
I can still remember watching the fire from my work on Mort Street that horrible december day.
My thanks to all those brave men who risk their lives to protect us all.

I walked here with rogerw3 and Team Canary as part of today's 6 hour geocaching expedition in the Lithgow area.
Roger explained the story behind the 'Memorial' and each of us added a stone to the cairn to remember Ted Hughes and the many other firefighters who give their time -- and sometimes their lives -- to protect us from all fires.
It was a sobering experience to think about bush fire disasters on such a pleasant summer afternoon. We also remembered all the rescue workers and volunteers who helped -- and are helping -- in Queensland, Victoria and NSW during our current flood crisis.
This geocaching location was a great idea, to encourage geocachers to remember all those who work hard to maintain the bushland we all enjoy.
We then found the cache some distance away. It was in good shape and the contents were nice and dry. TNLNSL.
Thanks to rogerw3 for setting up a geocache to honour Ted Hughes and other firefighters.

Almost gave up on this as gps way a little wayward. But found it , looked to the heavens and saw some rocks out of place and on investigation found the cache.
And a little freaky knowing some people died here to protect us. And very grateful for the fire brigade who do such a wonderful job.

Certainly a sober reminder up here of what fire can do.
We paused for a moment to look at the memorial then off to the cache in a nice little nook. TFTC!

Like Webby, I'd been out here many moons ago for the cache out the end. This time we got to stop at the memorial instead of driving by. I remember the day this happened and the loss for this town.
This one was a clever hide. Thanks

A nice quick find and the last on this ridgeline. A great idea for a cache, reminding us of the sacrifices that are made for us all. It’s been a great day so far with lots of “Views”, but time to take a break and grab some sustenance.
Thanks rogerw3.

Having been past here a while back for another cache, I knew where we were going. Cache was found quickly and then, that completed all the cache on this ridge system and it was air con on, windows up, tunes on and heading back to town to rest up and eat.
Been having a blast so far, many thanks for the tought and time you have put into placing these caches.
Cheers

Time to pay my respects to a fellow 'bushie" who paid the ultimate sacrifice....
I too, have come close.... http://www.petlins.com/peter/trapped/tr.htm
thanks to rogerw3 for the sombre time....

Well part of our team went a caching, part showed our respects and all went a looking at the views in one way or another.
We are only glad that we did not have the same views that Edward "Ted" Hughes had on the tragic day of December 2 1997. May we and no one else ever have to wittness the views of that day ever again.
TFTC and the rememberance.
Thanks to the organisers, cache owners and those who attended the weekend, we had a top time. Look forward to catching up again at the Geocaching Association of NSW Nurragingy Christmas Party GC1ZCCX December 12 2009 and the Oz Wagga Wagga Mega Event (April 2-5, 2010) GC1Y5R if not before.

Yet another highlight of the Views attack tour. I'm glad I didn't drive all the way down the spur when the reccy was done a few weeks ago. It would have spoilt the impact.
A great site for a cache.
Without the efforts of the firies access to these areas during summer months wouldn't be possible. Lets hope we don't need to go through this again => http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.aspx?id=2328955

Found 9:25am as part of a Lithgow 4x4 weekend caching and camping adventure. This memorial is a somber reminder to the ultimate sacrifice that one can give in protecting their community. I also remember this event as I went to school with the Police Officer who had to break the news to the media. Thank you for bringing us here.
Drove right upto this one and we had the cache found in no time, top spot and well worth a look Thanks for bringing us here
Spent some time here giving respects and having a bit of an explore around the rock formation.
Here's to the "Firies"!
Here's to the "Firies"!
This cache brings back memories of the terrible fire which ripped through the mountains on the northern side of Lithgow. The fire was so ferocious that anyone or anything in its way would be very lucky to escape alive and the fact that two very experienced members of the rural fire service lost their lives are a testament to that.
Mrs Stilllookin quickly took the find on this one which is appropriate since she used to wander all around the rock formations near GZ when she was growing up.
Thanks for the cache and the FTF as well.
Took nothing left nothing.
