Found this cache today while in the area with SteMicMitSar. A good spot for a breather.

10-Apr-22
On our way to an event today, and LeeLee stopped to wait for Crackers to catch up and thought, hang on...that looks like a sistema hiding in there.
Sure enough, there it was, tucked away in one of the trail signs.
Winner!!!
Cache is in really good condition so unsure how it got here, but reading previous logs it confirmed for us it had a big cache creep.

After hearing about this cache while at a nearby event and as it was on my way back to the car I mad sure to stop by and sign the log. TFTC

*Found on the 10 Apr 2022 @ 1:33 pm.*
*Cache find # 12682.*

While attending a nearby event this one was mentioned so while we were on our hike back to the car we stopped here and signed the log.
Cache is in excellent condition just not where it should be for some reason.

**Thanks to kw46 for placing this cache.**

I found the track to be medium verging on hard with the washouts and rock crawling, overgrown and that unstable mass of dead wood (heading from Obrien's crossing). Anyway DNF and read previous logs. If the cache is no longer at the GZ, it needs fixing. Sorry to ruin everyone's fun with the other co-ords posted but it is no longer a traditional cache. Please fix!

24-Apr-17
Logging a DNF as it was not at GZ. Beautiful area. Co-ords of where it is now are in other logs.

05-Feb-17
Hiked the east track from O'Briens Crossing with Barney and doggo. Should note that the cache is not at the co-ords supplied, but those noted in other posts

10-Dec-16
I attempted this hide in early 2015, with no luck. I remember reading a previous log from a cacher called "xambo4u " which contained a different set of co-ords. I dismissed these as no-one else had mentioned having trouble with the hide. If only I had taken note and used them.... oh well. So armed with a new set of co-ords provided by previous finders ( S 37° 31.572 E 144° 22.213 ) I once again returned to try my luck again. With the temperature in the low 20's it was the perfect day for a hike.
On my first visit to this cache i walked the East Walk, this time I decided on a different approach. I parked the car on O'Briens road, right next to Cowan track. The walk in was peasant enough until Cowan track ended and the Razorback track started.
That's when the pain started !! Fortunately this time it was an easy find, for me and quite a few others it seems. Between the last finder ( by a geocacher that is ) and myself, there were a total of 10 entries !! Various walking clubs and hikers had left there mark in the log. It still remains a mystery as to how it travelled so far from it's original GZ. Being in such an obvious spot, I'm sure it will get a lot more discoveries !!
Seeing as the CO doesn't appear to be active anymore, it looks like it will be in this spot for a while. Hopefully future finders read the previous logs and take note of the updated co-ords. 12 months of unloved for me, thank-you very much !! TFTC kw46 Smile

DNF. We checked the photos and fairly certain we should have been right on top of where it was put. Trail is good if not a bit overgrown.

Today dad and I set out in the mission of getting Gnu ear and decision time.
But the day hike ended up a lot bigger than we had intended. We had made the mistake of not reading the logs before we got out there and were stuck looking around the rocks for a good 20 minutes to half an hour.
We had made the decision to scout the logs for some hints and found a new set of coords that we bashed in and found it was 1.7km away from the original GZ (as the crow flies). After much umming and arrrring we thought stuff it, we cant only get one cache on this walk.
The long journey was made, we found it.... ended up getting whiskey business also.
went back up cowans track and back to obriens crossing
still puzzled on how a cache can walk 1.7km away from its previous spot.

Left obriens at 1.20pm, made it back to the car at 6.45pm

Out in Lerdie doing an overnight hike at Mine Camp with Mudbrick and Pacman. Had a good search at posted coords but no luck. Hmmm must be gone. On the way out the next day, Muddy happened to spot a suspicious pile of rocks at a marker 300m from coords. And it just happened to be decision time! Wow, what the hell has happened here?

Future finders - take the coord location from previous finder. You will not find the cache in the rocks at posted coords- its down 300m at the junction.

Initially we ( Jacko83, pacman, & myself) were unable to find this cache. A previous cacher had noted that the cache was now at about 400 metres away. We spent a considerable amount of time looking, then gave it away as a DNF. We found it the next day 400 metres away at 37.31.572 & 144. 22.213.
most perplexing.

12-Apr-15
Found with Jacko83 and Mudbrick while hiking from an overnight campground nearby.
This was a DNF yesterday, but through a strange set of circumstances we found the cache by accident this morning.
TFTC, kw46.

This was my only DNF today. Had a great, albeit wet walk in this morning. Had a look in all the usual places, even widened the search area a bit. No luck for me today, it was probably staring me in the face. Thanks for bringing me here, I will be back. Thanks kw46.

Found this Geo when I didn't know what geocaching was! Returned today to put my name back in. Plenty of muffles look like they've found this one!

Out with my bushing walking club and enjoying a totally different area to what I have been used to. I have checked out a couple along the way without any success. I do not like to hold the group up at. I found this totally by mistake and greatfull for it.
I found this at the following co ords. this is right on the track 37 31.573 144 22.211.
Thanks for the walk kw46

Found it - but wasn't looking for it! Saw a suspicious location and figured it would be a good geocache location... I was right. Smile

This one took me a little while to find because there were muggles about. I had not seen another person all day and then here they were loitering!!! As soon as they left the cache was quickly in hand

17 March 2013 11:43:00

This was the last of my finds in Lerderberg today.

A pleasant walk with the company of 2 cachers.

We passed a group of school students and crew on a 4 day trek.

Then we took a rather interesting short cut up and over a ridge.

The cache was soon found not long after by drjim7.

A quick bite and conversation I left them to continue on further.

I turned back to the car.

After we left Myles we actually ran into him again >> he was just driving off the crossing when we walked down from our little loop. Good day for a hike with even better company.

Continued down Lerderderg with Philipp and Myles. As Myles wrote we heaved over a spur then down onto GZ for an instant find.

What a great walk. I lost the track a little bit when I came to the big wood heap but soon picked it when I stayed close to the river walking from OBrians crossing. The weather was perfect, the cache was soon in hand and the log signed then back to the car TFTC. A walking pole was a good idea.

This one is another one that I have been waiting to find and thanks to Bogonghazy and can tick it off the list.
It was a lovely walk/climb to GZ and I was amazed at the amount of debris that had accumulated during the raging torrent that the river would have been when we had all the rain. I walked on the massive beaver like dam constuction as I headed to GZ. Even though I had some helpful advice I was unbelieving that that was where the cache was. My GPS was correct this time.
Thank you kw46 for a very enjoyable walk on a lovely day. We just got home before the misty rain set in. It made the whole area very mystical.

Team MAS0N set out yesterday with a single goal in mind, to find this cache and find somewhere to camp. We managed both and had a ball. It did take us 2hrs and 15 mins to get there but that was limited by ten year old legs and numerous obstacles left by the last floods. TFTC TNLN

Found @ 9.01am Find # 411
Well this one was a challenge too get to, after recent rains river was right up to the edge of track and in some places covering the track completely which took some negotiating to get past and lots of fallen trees to go under and over But on the bright side if I had attempted a day earlier I don’t think I would have got through As the water levels looked like they were a lot higher
Really enjoyed the walk immensely and it was fantastic to see so much water. Cache in good condition and was found in the first place I looked Big Grin

1st find of the day, and 2538th total find at 14:14.

It took us quite a while to get to this one. We had to dodge all the detritus and dead fall caused by the rain and the flooded river.

Took: Nothing
Left: Nothing
Thanks kw46 for the cache

Yep this cache was Decision Time for us too. Decided we would head down to the Lerderderg to pick up a few caches while it was a colder day which would make for an easier walk. Although our decision was for the worst, because we only had a few hours to pick up the caches. We continued our walk down A Gnu Ear to only have to stop every five or ten minutes due to rain. We where about half way between the two caches and the weather seemed to be getting even worse, so we had to make our decision- to go back and have time to pick up another 2 caches or continue to the cache and get the smily. We chose to head back. So what did we learn. When adventuring into the Lerderderg always allow more time in case of a unknown incident, and two, allow for the weather before you go.

Found this with Team BAPHA while on an overnight hike through Lerderderg State Park. Lots of fun finding a cache while hiking through lovely and largely unspoiled countryside. Track was well maintained from our campsite 5.5km downstream all the way back along the river to O'Brien's Crossing. Took nothing but left Speedy TB. TFTC!

I decided to clean up a few caches in the Lerderderg State Park on a lovely Summer day of 26 degrees.
I actually wooed my wife in this park as we came here for picnics and fishing when we were a LOT younger.
I hadn't walked this far into the park before, but with 2 caches to claim, it was a good enough reason to do it, especailly as i took the dog along as company.

The track was clear, and the container's size was fine, as it was in a very obvious spot, as the description suggests.
As previous finders have mentioned, this is a terrific walk on a clearly defined track beside a river that is now running again.

The only other thing worth mentioning is that the return walk back to O'Brien's Crossing only took 50 minutes,
much shorter that the drive from Ballarat to Gisborne.

My thanks to kw46 for another great cache, TNLNSL

After a bad start to the day’s caching by being beaten to what we were hoping for a FTF we knew that bristlehound was ahead of us and would get to this cache first which happened as we meet Max on the way out as we were still heading towards this cache.

This is a great walk and would advise more cachers to do this as it is I think it’s only about a ten k walk there and back and you will find two caches.

O’Brien’s Crossing is a lovely spot to start you’re walk and has good facilities and a lovely pond.

Thought the cache could have been a little larger as it’s only small and the difficulty rating should be more than a one as that means its wheelchair friendly and this is certainly not.

NI-NO and thanks to kw46 for placing a cache in this lovely area.

This cache popped up on my arrival home from walking this track for the second time in a week. In other words, I must have walked past it while it was awaiting publication. Frustrating??? Yes!!! I didn't then get a chance to go in for a third visit before heading over to Tassie for a flyfishing trip to the Western Lakes but, a check when I got back revealed it was still awaiting a find. Well, someone had to do it so I headed off this morning for a quick grab. It took a little under an hour to walk in from O'Brien's. The track was dry and in good condition. Much dryer than my earlier visits and the river had dropped considerably. An easy find was had at GZ and what a beautiful spot is is!!! A great place for a bit of decision making. On my way out from a FTF, I met up with Bushfire and Vicfire on their way in. We'd had a brief "Good day" at the carpark before I left, unaware that we had a common cause. They were only a few minutes behind me but without the benefit of local knowledge, had spent a bit of time looking for the start of the track which I have walked numerous times over the years.

I suggest future searchers not be put off by the Terrain rating. The track is rough in places but quite good and the walking is generally flat. I made it in there in around 55 minutes, including a stop at the cache part way in. (For what it's worth, I would probably rate it no more than a Terr 3, but then again, I guess I'm fairly familiar with it.)

Many thanks for an enjoyable walk, kw46, and the chance for a well overdue bit of exercise.

We have been keeping a eye on this one for sometime but its a long drive from home base.
Bushfire asked lets do it "no one has found it yet"
Ok so a early start is needed to get to this one ,cool day on our side.
Arrived at spot you would not believe it we are in no mans land and we have company.

Only to find bristlehound was only a few minutes in front of us but we not sure of our way.
Took us about one hour 10 minutes with few stops to take the view in.
Nice spot and easy find
The track is a bit rough but we found it good over all.
Thanks for an enjoyable walk, kw46
