Day 14 of the Crookedclan's great New Zealand holiday adventure. Sadly, today is our last full day and our holiday is nearly at an end. Today, we travelled from Greymouth over the Alps via Arthurs Pass to Christchurch, where we spent the afternoon looking around, somewhat awestruck by the extent of the damage from the 2011 earthquake.
We spent quite a while here having an early lunch and searching for this cache helped occupied the kids. No luck though. Add me to the list of DNF's
Thanks for the cache

Have found this one previously and went to show it to the kids today but it could not be found. Pretty sure this is definitely gone as we found the nylon it was attached to but nothing was attached.
MadNosyBear DNFed on this as we gave ourself a time limit as is was starting to get dark and a little drizzly. but in the time had a really good search with three sets of eyes. Hmmmm!
Popped in for a look but it was chockablock with tourists happy snapping and I was on a mission so didn't hang about.
We note this has not been found for some time. Found evidence of the cache so hunted (involved digging!) further to see if we could retrieve, but nothing further came to light. Suspect it is gone. Happy to discuss our findings further with CO to clarity if cache still in place.
Team_Gaters and I have planned a this trip over the last few months. We finally got to the business end of things and kicked off out West Coast raid. We had two days and a lot of boxes to tick. We started at 5am on Saturday morning and it took over 12 hours to get to Greymouth. We drove a lot, walked a lot and had a lot of laughs. We experienced 4 seasons and even contemplated aborting the mission as we were standing in icy cold weather freezing as the rain came pelting down in Arthurs Pass. We encountered matigouri, rosehips, blackberries, brambles, spainairds, baby gorse and old man gorse!!! Still finding parts of prickles in my skin! We also saw kea, weka, cave weta, tree weta, giant slugs, giant spiders in caves, west coasters, fat wood pidgeons, tui and a giant dragon fly. Had wet feet for nearly two days. Three FTFs and on of them was unpublished (first for me).
This was the planned last stop on the way back home as we wanted to be back home before dinner. We had 40 minutes to grab the caches in the area and collect the data for the nearby earthcache. I have been throught this cave about 15 years ago and must do it again. We had GZ to ourselves and started searching something caught my eye and we soon had the log signed. Lovely spot.
Awesome weekend. TG and I joked that going back to work would be a bit of a let down, so to combat that we would keep one foot in a bucket of water and the other one on top of a pin cusion, that should ignite the memories.
Thanks for the cache.

Heading for home after a caching weekend to Greymouth. Popped in here quickly on our way home....no time to walk the cave, another day. Figured we knew what to look for here...and we were right, TW came up with the cache quick smart. Nicely done. A great wee spot. Muggles intent on the cave and not us. Cheers.
A very late log we forgot about all our logs in the gps and this is one.
Found at last after a few trips in the past to Castle hills and left with out finding it not from the lack of trying.
Ra finally nail it ,sign the log and took photos .
Good place for a cache ,not many people in the winter and worth a walk round the area.

Tricky!!! Found reasonably quickly although extraction was fun. The "attachment" was not on the container but adjacent. Thanks.
At late log (29 April) for a find on 15 March.
Found on the way to Greymouth for a GirlGuiding training weekend.
I collected another leader from the airport, pickup up Subway for tea on the run and set off. Cave Stream was the ideal time and place to stop to eat. I'd been here with a school group about 18 months ago and had no chance to look so I headed for GZ and the other leader soon joined me. She'd heard about caching and wanted to know what one looked like.... well how big is a piece of string Explained that this one was very small, and a tricky find, and what I thought it might be. She she poked around for about 2 minutes then said, there's something different here ... yup the cache. Talk about beginners luck!
Thanks

I had been round up past here recently before - A couple days before actually, but there had been far too many muggles every time I went past to have a propper look.
Then today we tried to take a look before leaving, however there were so many people around again that it wasn't possible!!
So we were about to leave, when the large group there left themselves, and we had the area to ourselves finally!!
I took a big huge look about, and spotted the cache prett easy! And so happily we sat about chilling signing the log before returning, and heading off further. Nice to be able to have this cache now as found - clearing out the area of Cave Stream!!

Decided against this when we arrived as it was busy with muggles, just to be swarmed in our wetsuits by a group of scouts once we made it out of the cave... never mind, we persevered, pretended to be a bit on the exhausted side, and waited for them to ge organised and get out of our hair we knew what to look for - kind of - so proceeded duly until sonia26642 saw something and decided to keep at it - success! Thanks for a cool challenge [^]
we were in the area taking 20 scouts through cave stream, (heaps of fun if you have never done out) and managed to get some time to do this find. fairly quick find as i guessed how it would be hidden, just a process of elimination. nice hide. TFTC.
Came here once before, it was wet and rainy and failed, but today we found it!!!! Ya, so pleased to have found this one, well, Victoriousone did. Team work all around!
Yay finally got this one. We stopped once before last year but it was freeezing so we didn't look for long. Nice wee hide. Found with TwoSharpe. TFTC
Soon spotted by miss fozzmiester when we stopped off for a picnic tea on what had become a beautiful summers afternoon after leaving the rain back at Arthurs Pass. A very nice spot. TFTC

Had been unable to look for this cache when we first arrived as children were playing at GZ but on returning from the caves there were no such issues and Mr Geckoh was able to spot the cache after a minute or two of searching. TFTC

Looked in all the wrong places before we spotted something familiar. Good little hide TFTC.
I was really pleased with myself for finding this one. We'd just about given up when I sat back for a look and got that "Ah..haa!" moment and there it was! TFTC.
Found with my boy Zalgar on our holiday in New Zealand!
We found so many caches I am having a hard time keeping up with logs. So sorry for the generic post. Apart from some rain we had an amazing time and I loved my first visit to your country. Hopefully we will come back to see more in future.

Funny how the further west you go, the more clouds there are We were trying to limit our caching today with a long drive to do and a couple of German hitchhikers along for the ride too! This one did take some time but a methodical search after a logical guess got us there in the end. Shame we didnt have time to check out the caves, looks awesome.
Good luck for the Geocacher of the Month for December Moneydork!

19/11/12 6:42 PM Find #1553 A nice spot to stop and a good find which was quicker than expected. I'll grab the others nearby another time. Thanks Moneydork.
Lots of muggles - and some other geocahers around who guessed what we were doing. We thought we were being stealthy but they recognised the signs! We were looking in the wrong place at first then finally found it. Awesome cache. It came in as one of the top two caches of the day on our vote for the actual cache. We loved the size, the shape the look and the hide. Thanks heaps.
Found with 90CRX on our quick trip around the South Island. Thanks for your effort in placing this cache, I enjoyed finding it.
The D/T combination for this one would have been nice to get if only I had a few minutes to search without muggles around. A steady but never ending stream of them soon had me heading to the next cache. Good thing there is quite a few in the immediate area. TFTC
Journeying through NZ on our first international geocaching adventure making our way to the NZ Mega at Dunedin.
Heading to the west coast. Greetings to cache owner, we crossed paths in our hometown of Echuca, Vic when you were traveling around after Oz Mega. Now we are here to attend yours.
Cache had us going for a while, when Greg came up with the goods. A nice hide. TFTC SL
Poor planning on my behalf has left us cachless from this point until I can get some GSAK downloads happening.

Well, this was the third cache here, and a DNF for me. My dislike for this style becomes self full filling at times.

Day 3 of our NZ wander before the mega. With it raining overnight in Westport we decided to head back to Christchurch today.
Made a list of caches to tackle but had very limited internet access overnight so werent really sure what we were up for.
Parked in the carpark on our own and were able to have a good search. We both looked but it was Mr Felix who came up the winner
Replaced the log so we could leave our mark.
Then headed off to the other nearby caches.

Very tricky indeed. Searched and searched but gave up after 30 minutes of looking, couldn't keep the kids amused any longer. Went and found another one a few Km's away.
This one has got us dispite a few attempts.
We will be back.
Nice day great views from here.

Great little hide, the team were about to give up..then bingo...got it. TFTC as we had a great time in the area
Found at last! We have had a couple of goes at this with no luck. Today being cold and with some signs on snow along the road we have the place to ourselves so no muggles. Thanks to the CO for a helpful swap of emails confirmed we must have over looked it before so with new focus we searched again. After 10min we found that we thought was a tell tail sign and soon after had the log sheet in our hand. The log sheet is almost full so can the next cacher please bring a new log. We completed the signing duties and replaced. TFTC
Third times the charm. No one else around so could spend time at GZ, not that I needed it! Thanks for the challenge
Second attempt. Four of us searching with an Oregon and a Montana. Obviously were were falsely attracted to wrong features. Both GPS units consistently indicated a spot on the gravelled path.
Great hide, and easy once you think. First cache after picking up the camper, heading to the West Coast. TFTC
A revisit and after running into fuzzynz down the track, they gave me hope in finding this one...they joined in the fun and after a short search I spotted a TOTT lying close by...I used this tool to extract what turned out to be the cache...very nicely hid. Thanks for this one.
On our way back to the car after a walk around the area, unfortunately
not equiped to through the cave, we searched for this cache, and it
took some time and a bus load of japaneese tourists just stopped by.
I guess our interest for the area looked a bit strange but suddenly
wasawasa spotted something interesting and there it was. I think
we managed to log without revealing too much. The japaneese bus stop
was very short so when we should hide the cache again we were almost alone.
Logged together with wasawasa.

Reading some logs it seemed that this one might be a bit tricky. Admittedly it did take a reasonable search to find but in the end wasn't as tricky as I thought it was going to be. A great place to stop. TFTC!
Muggles in bunches, wandering past and hanging about the carpark. Managed, finally, to snaffle this one. Clever little cache. TFTC.
Easy find when we put the thinking cap on. Luckily there wasn't much in the way of company on this chilly day. Great spot for a cache. TFTC.
In the dark late at night so muggles at long last. Have stopped here about 4 times but muggles thawterd each attempt, oh and one time was about -2c and wet and windy.. call be soft but it wasn't fun that time.
We have got to make this a favourite, we have been looking in all the wrong places. It was in full view and we nearly went home again without finding it. No muggles around so we sit in the right spot and had a think. TFTC
This took me three times to find it. I didn't even bother to take the GPS out of the car as I knew the area well. However this time it was an easy find - in fact it was almost exposed so I returned it so muggles would not happen upon it.
We spent a long time looking and started to question the accuracy of the coordinates. Maybe we needed to look harder - or in a different spot?
Had a quick look, it was getting dark, raining ever so lightly and then another car showed up. Went to find the other caches in the area. I'll be bach!
It was getting on for dusk and we were all alone here. It didn't take too long to find.

This is the 2nd time we have attempted this cache, but yet still cannot locate. Met another Cacher, who as well has not been able to find it. This will not get the best of us! We will find you!!!!! KCU

Oh, so didn't want to walk away from this. In the end muggles forced my hand. Next time...
This one was really tricky! But after searching for a while we finally hold it in our hands!
Thanks for this idea and greetings from Germany,

1115hrs Didn't log a DNF two days ago as we had to come back and find this one. After sitting down and looking it was seen, actually obvious. Concentrate, no tools required The Italian Job was here......! Our blog www.motorhominginxs.blogspot.com
Muggle free today, so was able to search thoroughly. Didn't take too long to find. Nicely hidden. The plant with the blue flowers there had about 30 bumble bees on it - fascinating to watch. TFTC
Enjoyed looking for and finding this.
Didn't take to long as narrowed down the spots before starting
Walked thru the stream - way cool

We couldn't find it anywhere and for a busy place, it was completely muggle-free when we were there so we had time to look.
Just a cursory hunt. Too many muggles for a thorough search. Will try again another day.
Fairly quick cache - well spotted by La Vista. Managed to park to block the nearby muggles from our activities. Cheers Gav [7358]
Nice to find it today after a DNF on the previous visit. Don't know how we missed it then as we must have looked there!!. Thanks
The whole area has been tarted up since I last visited Cave Stream and I am not sure it's for the better. Spent 10 mins looking for this cache but then gave up.
Both Drawp and I had agood look for this one, but he finally narrowed it down to the right area and it was soon found. A bit of a smile for the two tourists who slept the night in the car next door and looked a little worse for it (it was 7:30am though). Thanks.
Yes got this time but on a second visit. Helped in search with Kiwimoose and a tit bit of information. The resident sandflies as still very keen to welcome visits to the site. TFTC
This is the first time we have been able to have a decent look for this one. After around ten minutes, and a sit down, it was finally seen! Very pleased to be able to get this smiley. TFTC
Certainly a popular area!. Spoilt for choice but a bit of elimination and I came up trumps.
Thanks

Got the others nearby, but no luck on this one, even with two of us searching for over half an hour. May try again in a couple of years when we come back this way. [;(]
