It's been a while since I'd dragged the old bike out, so I figured I'd head off to Fishers track for a bit of a ride. There were some decent ups and downs along the way but it wasn't a very long ride so the old legs coped fine.Once at gz, the find was pretty quick thanks to the specific clue.I left an alphabet stone - the letter 'O'.Thanks for setting this up

After doing the sash and door ride we did some of the fisher track
Thanks

Nice quick find here today with 2Bulbars , as we had just ridden Marton sash and door and are now heading down to this cache.
All good here signed the log and replaced as found.
Thanks for the placement and the smiley.

On the way from the todays Teararoa track we found this Cache. Thanks for that. Beautiful View.

My 10,000th cache milestone is coming up tomorrow and I decided to tag along with rustynz, on a big trip down south to Mnt Ruapehu to land the milestone on the virtual cache ‘Virtually Stunning’ up on that mountain. Later we’re planning to head to Waiohine gorge to do the old T-2 cache and stay a night in Totara hut. So much is happening.

I have done this cache years ago, but walked to it. I brought along my e-bikes in my van especially for this cache, I knew rusty would appreciate riding here rather than walking!! Cool Took us no time to get here and back to the carpark.

Had a bit of fun on an electric bike belonging to gorby. Much easier yhan a walk to GZ, and what a view

Thankfully I did not falls off, and the return journey seemed to go quicker. Got to gz and spotted piles of dirt. Thankfully cache wanted to be found, nd was not buried, all safe up and away, and the cache contents were safe and dry.

Thanks for the hide, and for bringing us here

With Gap (of Fap and Gap)… On a road trip caching our way through Taupo, Turangi and Tongariro. This roadie has been a few weeks in the making, and marks our first real mission in a little while.

We’ve talked about doing this isolated cache, but the effort to get in here seemed a bridge too far… We thought we’d have a look at the track and discovered an open gate. Never one to look a gift horse in the mouth, Gap drove us in…

Ground zone was especially stunning given the rough terrain that spread out as far as the eye could see. We took in the view then got down to business. A pen was a red flag - The cache must be nearby… We couldn’t believe our luck on this hide, and the gate was still open on our way out. Thanks evilC and TFTC.

another old cache that we have talked about several times.
read up about this one and noted we had a walk to get to it.
day was fairly hot when we arrived at a open gateway.
nothing telling me that we could not entered so drove right to cache.
great view here and a new pen laying on ground by cache container.
signed log and returned back to hopefully still open gate.
all good when we got back.

Happy New Year to all and TFTC

A nice quick find thanks. I jumped onto my bike for a quicker journey, and was glad that I didn't have go head too far down into the valley. Last for the day as the rain started spitting and the Falls were a wee bit far away for today.

Ms_KR and I are off on a wee tour of the North Island. A quiet day around National Park today, feeling glad we went up to the Top of the Bruce yesterday as tday is blowing a gale, with a bit of rain..

Thanks to all CO's for publishing and maintaining their caches. Cheers.

02-Jul-21
Got the day off work so heading up to National Park. Lots of new caches here since we last visited which is great. Heading out to Tupapakurua Falls to get a FTF then thought I should collect the other caches nearby. Enjoyed the view of Mt Taranaki from GZ. Cache and log all fine. Thanks

Biking the Fishers and I have a few helpers providing extra eyes. Very efficient, and the GC was quickly at hand. TFTC

09-Feb-21
It's our last day in the National Park area and we walked up here to pick up the cache. Great hint to follow and the 'gardening' appears to have been successful as there was no blackberry in the cache vicinity. I'm glad that we were on task early as there are trucks up there now to add gravel and grade the road now. TFTC Smile

Coordinates changed to:
S 39° 9.934 E 175° 21.527

Distance from original: 12.0 feet or 3.7 meters.

Adjusted slightly in line with small move made 30 Jan 2021.

30-Jan-21
Visited again today and moved everything about 3 metres north-west to get it into a more open position, hopefully easier to access, and away from the blackberry.

Also did some "gardening" around the new position to remove blackberry shoots in that vicinity but I'm sure it will come back soon!

I had time to fill in while I waited in National Park for my daughter who was walking the Whakapapa to National Park section of the Te Araroa enabling me to grab the caches in town. Parked up and walked this area. She was finishing the day at Fisher Rd end so I parked up to grab these before taking her back to town.
It was very hot as I made my way to this cache. Thankfully is was not up hill too much. I passed a digger working on track improvements. A short search and cache was located. Pleased I signed and headed back. Diggerman had stopped for a cup of tea.
My daughter had arrived at the car and was sitting in the shade. Thank you for the placement.

A lovely outing with the CO to find the cache. I have to admit that I thought he suited the name 'evil' based on some of his hides I previously located, but now I have to say that I can reverse that! Great walk along the track and a quick find. I had the honour of being the first to sign the new replacement logbook. And I totally forgot to take a photo of the view!! I wonder what lies beyond along the track? TFTC!!

15-Jan-21
Dropped off a replacement logbook along with another (once she had found the cache!) Removed old logbook which was a sodden roll of mush and is now drying out at my home.

Maintenance of the track and drainage has made the current GZ rather ugly - might have to make another visit and see if some improvement is possible.

Day 45 of my TA adventure...
Back on the trail after a night at the yha and a bit of a late start while enjoying some comforts instead of a tent...
5km down the track and time for a break...perfect spot..cache was a quick find but log has seen better days needs some TLC.. tftc

Found with the two boys on bikes. Did the track from National Park to Retaruke. Mrs B&B picked us up from the bottom. Youngest was towed with a tailgator.

27-Jan-20
Having a great ride on the Fishers Track with a biking group from Tauranga. Only small problem was some low cloud which spoilt the far views, but also kept us cooler as we rode. Can't beat finding a cache as well! Had time for a quick search while we waited for the back markers and due to the excellent instructions, also a quick find. Log signed and smartly returned in good time to join back in. Cache is all good. TFTC

. Sometimes it is for caches like these when I wish i was a crow. Good walk to the cache and no problems finding the cache thanks to the hint. Log dry but a bit tattered. Amazing how dry it has stayed. Having a lovely weekend staying at Whakapapa TFTC

04-Jan-19
Took longer than it should have as GPS all over the place. Gave up on phone and pulled out the garmin and found it a bit further away than expected under a rock pile. Luckily the ground wasn't too damp in the drainage ditch and even my sieve-like bike shoes did not get any water in them.

22-Dec-18
Visited today (along with Vektor on the summer solstice) expecting to find it was long gone. And at first I thought that was the case with a lot of extra growth around the area. Luckily I kept looking long enough and found it nestled under some manuka that was possibly not there at all on my previous visit! Dried out the rather rather tattered logbook and plastic bag, etc., noted our visit and put it back in its place.

Please try to seal the bag bag, and leave the container upside down so water has a chance to get out as well as in.

05-Oct-18
Stopped and had quite a look for this while biking through, but no luck for me today.

22-Mar-17
Long walk for the cache and back while it was raining. Anyway, I found it! Smile Thank you very much for the cache. Like we say in the Czech Republic where I am from - Diky moc!

An easy find on a 50km bike ride. TFTC

Day 2 of Mega - Geocaching Adventure

Teamed up with HKCB to tackle a few out of the way caches around the mountains, plus a few Lab caches on the way.

An amazing day, a not too early start, already had an event plus the sun is shinning. Perfect caching conditions! After driving to get some information for the Labs we headed back this way to start finding some 'real' caches.

Parked up at the big gate and was rather envious off all the Mountain bikers flying by. Oh well, slow and steady for us and we soon made it to GZ. We had an impressive view of Taranaki from GZ so that was awesome! The slog back up the hill wasn't too bad and I was soon back at the car and could devour my chocolate!

23-Oct-16
Day 2 of Mega 2016!

Today's goal was to head around the mountain to find the Lab caches as well as the caches up the Western side of the mountains, again like yesterday focusing more on the caches a little more off the beaten track than on the side of the road. Again teamed up with 11HPG11 for today's mission!

As the previous finder has mentioned we would of loved to make this a park and grab however we too took the long walk in to the cache. Was a bit jealous of all the mountain bikers that past us, as that would of made getting to GZ and back so much quicker. A quick find once at GZ and we even got a view of Taranaki so well worth the effort getting to the cache. Thanks for the hide.

18-Oct-16
We didn't see a sign warning of rougher road ahead, but instead a substantial locked gate across the road, preventing you from driving further. This seems a pity, as there is a good quality gravel road all the way to the cache, and even a big parking area just before it. Never mind. We did the long walk in, and didn't take too long to find the cache, although a hint would have been reassuring. TFTC

18-Apr-16
Went for a late afternoon walk for this one, got there in time for some golden skies. Mt Ruapehu was a gorgeous purple colour on my way back to National Park Village. TFTC.

Nice spot.
They did a little bit of earthwork that day and dug a some earth on the cache but I saw the stones covering the cache and dug it out.
Everything is good on that cache but the logbook is rather wet.
Thank you for that cache
Regards from Bavaria

Metalled road all the way now that track forms part of sea to summit track system. However, you're not meant to drive further than the car parking area although the gate has been removed. We had just found the nearby Tupapakura Falls cache and then came to this one so had a bit of an unexpected road walk as well. Cache was a little damp but otherwise in good order. Thanks evilC.

11-Nov-14
I parked up at the co-ords of the carpark as offered by the C.O. I was down frm up north to do caches up on Mnt Ruapehu yesterday etc. Today (Sunday) I was up for some nice walking to this cache, from the info on my GPS, this was a 2.544m walk to the cache frm the carpark. What's that? About 50mins or so. Found the hidden cache then another 50 mins back to the car. Great day, very warm, cool spot for a cache, thanks for that evilC.

What a great view well worth the trip to this one.

04-Jan-14
Visited cache and replaced cache container and logbook after verifying with rock_dassie that she did indeed find the empty nest. New logbook started with an entry recognising her find. Thanks!

I found the spot where the cache was supposed to be, but unfortunately the box is gone. Please check if I am correct.
Thank you for showing this view. TFTC

09-Feb-13
Had a nice walk with SherlockJr, mainly because of getting to this cache. Nice view from here, even though the way to cache was sort of cloudy/foggy today. Dropped off one TB that I brought with me from Sweden. TFTC!

It was a nice walk to the point and the view was amazing, but unfortunately the box is gone. Please keep an eye on it. The spot was obvious. Sad Thanks for showing this place.

24-Dec-12
Nice long walk. New container had water in it but log was dry.

20-Oct-12
Went for a walk with visiting nephew to give this cache a check-up.

Disappointed to find Jeep TB appears to have gone AWOL. Plastic bags for logbooks have also gone west at some point so everything completely soaked. Replaced container and left with new logbook in sealed plastic bag.

Have brought home the two previous logbooks to see if I can dry them out enough to read the entries!

31-Aug-12
Log book is soaked wet, maybe a new jar, or new plastic snap lock bag or something

30-Aug-12
After so many attempts trying to find this third time lucky. By myself. Gonna go down and up back into national park village all the way no need for a ride haha takes about five hours lol yay for me

19-Aug-12
A fun trip. Staying at NP for a mate's 50th, and some skiing. The weather was pretty awful up the mountain, so decided to do some MTBing instead. Very pleasant. Thanks.

25-Mar-12
A nice, easy jog on a humid morning. Noticed several muggle entries in the log book. One of them was wishing that someone had dropped off some TP. Jeep TB in (see photo). I thought this cache route in was appropriate for a jeep.

23-Jan-12
Cool walk on a hot day. Could have possibly fitted my can am spyder through gate. Easy find thanks. 25 mins each way about right

01-Jan-12
Left the car at National Park because my memories of Fishers Track were that it was a dirt track. It's a good metalled road now!
Walked the 4.5 km to the cache, signed the logbook; sat down for lunch in rather iffy weather. And then it rained, very hard, and very long... Walked back 4.5 km in atrocious weather, which cleared as we reached National Park.

Thanks for the cache!

A bit muggy today but as it was finally fine we thought we'd tackle this one! Approx 25 mins each way and no problems with cache. Passed by several mountain bikers on the way back. Swapped whistle for coin. Thanks for a good cache!

03-Oct-11
It was our 50th cache!! We were excepting a walk the long of a rivere due to the name;-)! The cache was easy to find and nicelly keep by the little Monkey Wink Tftc

05-Sep-11
First attempt about a year ago and we got rained out. Much finer weather for a nice family walk. TFTC

25-Aug-11
Enjoyed the great views from the cache and now with a taste of the track, especially looking forward to doing the 42 traverse someday!

25-May-11
Found while doing Surveying for the Cycleway. Nothing left Nothing Taken.

20-Jan-11
Decided to continue onto Geo site after walking to the Falls. A pretty full-on day but well worth the extra effort and the view from the "Stone Castle". Next time we are out this way we hope to do the MTB ride to the end of the track - terrain looks very tempting!

30-Dec-10
Neat spot, loved combining my mountain biking with some geo caching!

27-Nov-10
Enjoyed the walk, great views, found an old hunters hut near the cache site. plenty of sign of pigs around. good views of Ruapehu from the rise by gound zero. Bumbed into a dozen or so MBikers.Took us just under an hour to get to the site with several stops. Took car, left Bike reflector. TFTC

30-Oct-10
Finally got around to visiting after noting earlier logs about it being wet.

Cache was exposed and wet inside. Seems it has been found accidentally a number of times by passing bikers and others. The logbook was dry today but had obviously been very wet previously and is very fragile now. Added a new logbook and sealed both old and new in a nice new plastic bag. Cleaned out some rusty bits and pieces and the geocaching note that was sodden and had turned into mush. Made some holes in bottom of container to let condensation drain away and put everything back into place where it should be. Hint: the container needs to be hidden under the... well... you will see!!

On a day like today it's a beautiful spot to sit and admire the views over the hill country to the west with the sun slowly dropping lower in the sky...

14-Jun-10
Walked from carpark as was raining and track slippery. Nice Walk, cache was very wet and log book is very wet as well. Signed as well as possible. TFTC

1416 Nice cool morning for a trek to this cache, we passed two of the most miserable trampers we had seen in awhile whilst driving up and down. Thinking they should take up geocaching, it might at least make them smile. Thanks for the cache and the exercise!

19-Dec-09
Straight forward walk - Enforced by the creator of this site. However a slight muddle in copying the co-ords resulted in a disagreement in direction pointers and distances with the "Creator
The tarn was easily spotted

I cycled in at your cache. TFTC MacBanger

We really enjoy caches like this one! The way to the cache is very lonely and beautiful. While the whole walk we met nobody.

Thanks for the cache and greetings from Oldenburg, Germany.

Nothing like a bit of sweat and labour on Labour Day. This looked like a good workout and an adventure all rolled into one. Dragged the bikes out of hibernation in the antique museum...aka the Back Garden Shed, a quick practise around the lawn to see if they (or us) fell to pieces, grabbed a packed lunch and off we went, full of excitement. This track was somewhere we had talked about in the past but never got a Round Tuit. Drove through National Park, full of buses and cars, praying they were all up the mountain enjoying the sunshine and spring snow.
Drove along the metal road to the carpark and all was peacefully quiet. Awesome! On the bikes and off we go....and it's true, you never forget how to ride a bike! Its been years since we did this and here we were, speeding along the track through huge mud puddles and thoroughly enjoying it. Met up with a road construction team, (farmers, dogs and 4WD) who were busy repairing one of the worst mud holes along the track which is their access road.
Reached GZ without any problems but plenty of mud splatters. Ate our lunch enjoying the view and then pedaled our way back enjoying the absolute isolation, until the phone rang with a call from Oz!...not so isolated afterall!
This is the sort of FTF we really enjoy, getting off the beaten track, the perfect end to a lovely holiday weekend. Thanks so much, evilC, you picked a good one here, we loved every minute of it, including coming out covered in mud....it proves we've really been somewhere! Big GrinBig Grin And Paua loved it so much she rode all the way back out to National Park while Punga had to drive the truck!!! TFTC.
