I arrived on the big island a few days ago with the main intention of attending the Cache Crawl next weekend. Today as I am staying in the vicinity of Ballarat I decided to look for this old cache. It was in good condition and quickly found. Thank you chooknchunk for adopting it to keep it in play.
After losing signal on the way I got it up and walked to the cache. Very important month for my ausmerThanks for the adventure
bunadoorian and I came here after a nice lunch in Ballarat. I was on a mission to pick up some older dated caches today. This was our 3rd one on the required list. It was a lovely walk from the carpark in an area new to us. TFTC and for bringing us here Wanderers and chooknchunk for adopting it and keeping it in play for us all to find.
Grub62 was targeting older caches around Victoria and this one was in her sights. I tagged along for the ride and the extra caches. A nice find after a short walk and search. Thanks for creating and maintaining this cache and TFTC.
I came out here seeking old caches with ones placed in 2001 as my goal and I had created a list last year with this one on it.I was able to drive almost all the way to the cache with just a super short walk at the end and I could smell smoke in the air as a mist of rain fell. I was on a bit of a time crunch not wanting to be visiting these sites if it was raining due to the dirt roads and also I didn't want to end up driving too much of the highway in the dark to get back to my accommodation.Good to grab this cache and see it in decent condition. Thanks For the Cache (TFTC).
The Adelaide Leap Day Mega and Canberra Geobash gave us a great excuse for a road trip. This trip has shown us so many new and interesting places as weve chased LGAs, oldies, challenges, interesting D/T combinations, rarer cache types and favourites.Meeting up with friends old and new along the way, we sometimes cached together and sometimes alone but always had a great time. For a few days we have based ourselves in Avoca to explore the goldfields area, attend some events, climb some hills, visit out of the way places and learn some history.Took a little detour on the way home from climbing Mt Beckworth to find this oldie. Thanks to the CO for placing and maintaining this cache and adding to our enjoyment.
I headed up to Dimboola for a CITO yesterday and did not realise it had been cancelled on Friday evening until I was checking what time it was planning on starting when in Stawell. It was cancelled due to the heat and the total fire ban as well.It was going to be hot picking up rubbish so it was for the best.I did some caching in Stawell and still headed up to Dimboola to do a small I Spy Series. On the way back I tried booking some accommodation for the night. After finding out that all of the accomodation is booked out between Stawell and Ballarat for night I stayed in Avoca for the night and now it is a different way home. After touring the Perydale historic area and finding a mine I got out of the bush only to find I was heading back in again but in a different direction.Back out of the bush again and I was actually heading to the reservoir for an earth cache but noticed this one.I used the waypoints to gain access to the area then to the parking spot to park the Geocruiser. It was not untill I read the cache notes that I realised it was a golden oldie.Wandered off to GZ but did not spot any animals.Maybe it was the heat keeping them hidden.Cache soon located, signed and returned. Thanks for keeping this oldie going. Thanks chooknchunk TFTC.
Very grateful for the waypoints to get in here thank you. Finding the cache was no problem. All is good and dry here. Thank you for showing us this place
Thanks for bringing us to this nice spot by the reservoir! A couple of people fishing whilst we walked in to get the easily found cache!! TFTC!!
A quick find after a lovely walk to GZ. Found with Lionjrb. Tftc and keeping this old cache active.
Out caching with Lumpyjrb, making an effort to come and get this old cache. Such a nice spot for it. Thanks for maintaining the cache over all these years. Thanks for the cache.
Its day 2 of Peppas plan to traipse around Ballarat and surrounds chasing the geotour and easily getting sidetracked by shiny things. BM75 is driving and after walking up Mt Beckworth its back in the car and we are heading further west. We used the parking coords and had a short walk in the bush to GZ. No trouble finding the cache, nice to tick off another oldie. Tftc chooknchunkFind #5255
Day 2 of our Ballarat Boys BreakAn early start sees Breadman75, Davinells and I cruising the mean streets of Ballarat and surrounds in our hire car, the Peugeot Party Prowler We still havent worked out how to unlock the doors from the inside thoughWeve taken care of the challenges so now were back to oldies and the repeating if we go another xx minutes this way, its another LGA god damn challenges 2 years ago I thought LGA stood for Lesbian & Gay AllianceThank goodness for the waypoints, even though the PPP had other ideas on where to parkThanks chooknchunk
A short walk from the car park and a quick find. Found with Peppa and Davinells. Thanks for the cache chooknchunk
**07/11/2023, 08:30:00****Find #5627****Traditional Find #3363**Day number four of my road trip. I got off to an early start and still the weather is fine, but that's not going to last. I needed this cache for October 2001 in the Ausmer Challenge and I can't resist an old cache in any case. Once I found my way into the reserve, it was an easy and pleasant walk in the morning sun beside the lake to an obvious hiding place where I made a quick find. Many thanks to ChooknChunk for adopting this cache and keeping it maintained. A favourite point from me.**Thank-you to chooknchunk for placing this geocache**
Out for a country drive today with the added bonus of picking up a few caches along the way. This oldie fills a spot in our Jasmer.
A lovely short walk in the bush. No echindas spotted today.
Added lots of swaps and placed log book in zip lock bag to keep dry.
Thanks chooknchunk for keeping this oldie going.

I'm almost finished my JASMER and this cache filled a hole. We were in the area camping in Creswick over Easter and I detoured to find this cache. Thanks for maintaining it.

Next adventure - work trip to Ballarat so came a couple of days earlier to cache in the area. With so much to choose from my priority is the GeoTour, some oldies, and some ALs. And of course, what cacher can resist the other one here and there that you just simply can’t drive past!!
Day 1 - windy as all get up today. Supposed to get to 37 but the wind is making that seem unlikely. Nevertheless, I’m pushing on with my target and thoroughly enjoying exploring what for me is completely new territory.
Another one for the Jasmer Quick and easy find here today.
Thanks so much chooknchunk for maintaining this oldie, and for getting me out and about and enjoying this area

Ballarat and Rutherglen Christmas 2022 Trip. Day 3. Yesterday was a full day completing the Ballarat Geo Tour caches. Today Fitzy_1965, Smitten Granny, Kitty Katch, Joolay and albida33 jumped in one car and headed a bit further afield to do the Christmas tree puzzle series and a few older caches well to the north of Ballarat. Next on the agenda was getting to the challenge Caches that could be driven to a bit south of town. The final activity of the caching day was some of the LAB caches around town. At then end of the day we met up for a great dinner before retiring for a well earned night.
With old caches in mind we did a loop to the north of the region and collected three old caches. We were happy the rain had stopped as we made the short walk to this cache. It is still safe in this environment.
Thanks for the cache chooknchunk

With a main aim of the Ballarat GeoTour, the Rutherglen Easter Series, Brolga Bill's Bike Trail (BBBT), and Brolga Bill's Puzzles (BBP), a group of us headed down from Canberra/Goulburn. What a great day it was driving around the Ballarat region. A Beautiful City. The next cache on our list. Quick find once at GZ. Signed the log, replaced the cache as found, them continued on to the next cache on our list.
Thanks Wanderers / chooknchunk !! Great to see such a Golden Oldie still going.

A much cooler day today with scattered showers while travelling with Albida33, Fitzy_1965, Joolay and Kittykatch. First up we attacked the presolved Christmas Series then headed north for some older caches before returning south for the challenge caches and whatever else might pop up.
Thanks for the company to my geobuddies and the caches to all COs. Logs were signed as BCI 22 as it stands for Ballarat Christmas Invasion.

Found on a caching trip to Victoria with a group of Canberra cachers (Joolay, albida33, fitzy_1963, Smittengranny). Signed as Ballarat Christmas Invasion 2022 (BCI22). Great to follow the waypoints to find a gap in the fence.

Find #2762 for me. Found at 7:41 am with my dog Bonnie, while on our way to the event and CITO in Smythesdale. This was a quick find for me on a glorious Sunday morning with the sun still low in the sky and the nearby wind turbines on the hill slowly turning in a light breeze. The clips on the container are getting quite brittle and it may need to be replaced soon, but all was good for now with everything nice and dry. Thanks for bringing me here today chooknchunk and thanks for the cache!
Found on the second day of a somewhat impromptu solo caching and camping trip to Victoria from Adelaide.
I had planned to spend a week travelling, caching and camping along the Great Ocean Road, but my travelling companion had to postpone it due to other commitments. I was still keen to go away somewhere this week as well, so decided to head to the western part of the state on my own.
I created a bit of a 'menu' of specific caches of interest in the broad area that I might be in before I left home and just pottered along fairly casually, taking in the sights and grabbing what I could along the way.
I don't usually bother too much with Traditional caches these days, but this was an oldie and worth a look.
Who was Evan?
Thanks Wanderers and chooknchunk for the cache.

After finding the cache, it was time to have a look at the reservoir, then have a bit of lunch before heading on my way. One clip on container broken. Tftc
Out and about today collecting a few caches. We stopped by to look for this Golden Oldie. Thanks for keeping this one going.
What an interesting cache.
I am old enough to remember when the USA turned off the SA and enabled geocaching to begin.
Thanks for maintaining the cache.

Travelled out to Avoca to join in the celebration events and explore an area I’ve not been to before.
A quick view of the lake before finding this old beauty. Log and cache were in good order and this was a quick find.
Thanks chooknchunk for keeping this cache alive for those of us that are still getting our feet in the game.

Our draft logs have reached a few hundred now. Events and caches where we wanted to write more of a story than TFTC. However they go back so far that we are losing track of the details of some. So we have bitten the bullet and have decided that we need to get the number back down to a manageable amount.
The events were all fun as usual with chances to chat with the usual suspects and occasionally new players. A great part of the game.
Most of the physical caches were part of one trip or another and were usually caches of opportunity. And there are a few puzzles in the group that we have solved in the past and finally grabbed on the way past.
This was one we felt was worth a detour as we always like grabbing the older caches. We were in the area trying to find an1850s dwelling belonging to one of Janet’s ancestors.
Thank you for the cache

The 3rd old school cache found today and another sqaure filled on at last while on a meander around the Ballarat region. This one has been on the to do list for years now, over 10 years later its finally done. Impressive wind turbines in the area.

I once new an Evan and I guess I still do. Haven't seen him for years. Interesting place. Interesting road.
Thanks to chooknchunk and **clear skies** from TeamAstro. [^] Cache the planet! [^]
We are staying in Avoca to clear out our shop so that we can sell it and buy and fit out a van to travel around Australia as Digital Grey Nomads. As it was raining, we couldn't pack a trailer, so we decided to head around the area and grab some caches. We headed towards Ballarat thinking the Geotour meetup was today. On the way, we saw this old cache and decided it would help fill a space in our Jasmer. What a gorgeous part of the world this cache is in. We took the long way in and probably walked where we shouldn't have, but we found this cache in the end. Thank you, Wanderers, for placing its cache and chooknchunk for keeping it alive

After attending the Talbot Market and not having the geodaughter complaining about going home straight away, Mr and Mrs P were able to take a slightly different route home and pick up some more caches. Been meaning to come out to this area to get this one for a long time now as it is on my list of the 500 oldest active Victorian caches. Nice to see the reservoir with good water levels for this time of the year. TFTC CIGC TNLNSL

Re-enabling now the Victorian Covid19 restrictions say we can "participate in some recreational activities, adhering to the rules". Please use common sense, maintain social distancing, attend to hand hygiene and stay safe.

Trip log... GreyHams log says it best, in all its glorious detail... so it really is, 'What he said!'
With GreyHams we set out for another chapter of our caching challenge... To find all the counties in NSW. We flew into Adelaide early Friday morning with a return plane from Melbourne Monday night. Taking advantage of some super cheap car hire driving one way from Adelaide to Melbourne. Of course, as a four day road trip it leads into collecting as many counties as was possible as we pass through SA and Victoria as well, with a few side trips for those that were close enough.
The counties a high priority but many caches of interest, the oldies are always great, about 16 2001 caches found plus many others just as old. Web Cams, virtuals, great DT which would see us complete our fifth loop of the DT grid, large caches and lots of regular sizes too. The trip list also included a cache type of each we were missing for each state as well.
Simply, if we stopped for a cache that had made it onto the list, it was not just any random cache, it was selected for a quality of some type we were seeking.
One of the harder things about caching after flying somewhere is that all the TOTT are left behind...usually! So it just had to be done and we took an esky with us on the plane for all those fabulous cold drinks along the way.
The thing I love the most is that we also took a ladder with us on the plane too!
We had targeted the 'on your bike' wherigo series, so many puzzles, so many hours of them so the ladder was important if we wanted to find all the high DT, up the tree caches... which we did! Later in Ballarat we went 'above and beyond' with the ladder once again. A truly essential item to have, we may now need to invest in that inflatable Kayak for future adventures too!
Perhaps it must be said that our route was the least direct way we could have traveled via the Hay Plains and Griffith, but covered a lot of road, counties and locations leading to yet another great trip. Although a number of park and grabs, made closer by our reliable and tough SUV, we also managed a lot of walks, hills, bush, and just a great variety as we explored the different areas.
We crossed the Murray river many times, a lovely healthy looking river system. After our recent trip from Adelaide to Sydney, via Broken Hill and Bourke the dry rivers out there are a very sad sight compared with the Murray.
With so much achieved that we had set out for it was a very successful trip but also an enjoyable one with many memories made and a new batch of stories too! Thanks to all the CO's for there caches that lead us in our travels.

Aquilus1 and myself are on a mission.... to collect all of the counties in NSW! but how to get to those 'hard to reach' ones from where we are in Canberra? It would be an awfully long round trip. The answer was supplied in the super cheap car rental deals available if you drive one-way from Adelaide to either Sydney or Melbourne... I guess too many cars do it the other way and the cars need to get back somehow. Flying to ADL on points meant fuel was by far the biggest transport cost we paid for.
This trip is actually trip number two.... to drive from ADL to MEL, via Hay & Griffith! Yeah, thats logical! It was fun explaining where we were going to people, we got a lot of strange looks. The first trip was ADL to SYD, via Bourke. The bonus of course is we have also cleaned up a lot of SA & VIC counties as well.
OK, so primary goal is counties but we of course had 5 or 6 goals. Oldies was definitely a priority, I think we picked up 16 hides from 2001 on the trip along with lots of 2002-2006's. D/T of course is never overlooked and we did well there, I think we will almost complete our fifth loop from this trip. Webcams, Virtuals and Wherigo's were all targetted and finally getting all cache types in each state.
Day 1 was us arriving in ADL at sparrows, with a ladder and esky that we checked in and driving as far as Barmera. We cleaned up the 'On Your Bike' series where the ladder really fulfilled its purpose (I never want to see another online jigsaw again!) and even stopped to grab the LBH on the way out.... after 9:30pm, and after I attacked the dirt road with my body and left a lot of skin on it. Note to self: dont lunge at dirt roads! Luckily the hotel in town was open and we obtained fine lodgings. The floor creaked when I looked at it, or breathed, or changed my mind, but the bed was the finest.
Day 2 was driving to Hay, apparently on their biggest day of the year! No motel had rooms but luckily the new hotel that was supposed to open next week was forced into opening on the very day we arrived.... I like fresh sheets but how about a bed that has never been slept in! The crossed the Murray about 5 times and it was always impressive. We saw the country side change hugely from Rivers, Mallee and the Hay plain.
Day 3 was going from Hay, around Griffith and actually turning south towards Melbourne.... it felt like a long way! We cleaned up a bunch of the counties, in fact all of them, west of and including Naranderra. My map on Project-GC is going to look so green! We got as far as the outskirts of Bendigo, stopping at the first Motel we saw.... it was better than it looked!
Day 4 was getting to the airport, which we did with heaps of time to spare. Checkin closed a huge 18 minutes after our arrival. Damn, we could have grabbed another cache in that time. Ladder back in its box and checked in. I love the fact we took our own ladder!
Now safely back at home I am already suffering from caffeine withdrawal, but thats the price you pay for living on Coke for 4 days.
Sorry for the long generic log, but it was a fun trip and I wanted to share.

While on my way to the St. Arnaud mega event, I stopped by this cache for a look.
As this one is such an old cache, it’s been on my to do list for some time, today I finally made it out here to make the find now back to heading for the Mega.
**Thanks to Wanderers (adopted by chooknchunk) for placing this cache.**

A quick jaunt across from the road, and easily found.
Thanks f our keeping this oldie going chooknchunk!

A drive around the countryside to find a few caches. We went in the car with Geodog Penny on board. Going down to Lexton then zigzagging our way to Talbot, out to Majorca for the final find for the day before heading for home.
Parked the car and off we walked after climbing the fence. We did have few muggles watching us in the distance that were camouflaging themselves as trees. Wow what you know - we found a way out without having to climb the fence. Didn't see that before. Now it is time for a cuppa and eats before continuing on.

Felt like we were trespassing on water catchment land.
However we easily gained the cache and did the usual things.
This is a nice location with the dam and the 3 wind turbines opposite the dam standing on the hill, swirling round and round in today’s heat and wind.

I had planned a big few days of caching in SA so I left work on a Tuesday evening and hit the road from Melbourne. This was my return journey on the Sunday and instead of chasing big numbers I was covering a lot of kms and targeting some specific caches to satisfy missing spots on either Jasmer or the Victorian LGA challenge. This was one I had identified before I set off from home as one of my missing Jasmer months. I wasn’t getting any closer to home by heading out here but the bigger plan was to pick up the Sunraysia Highway and head south-east from there. It was nice and quiet by the time I reached here and after parking up and dodging the construction signs I headed to GZ on foot. A short search and I soon had this cache in hand. Love finding these historic ones. Took nothing, left nothing, signed log and visited some of my own trackables. Thanks to Wanderers for placing this cache and to chooknchunk for keeping it going.
Enjoyed the walk. Construction works at the weir wall so can in the long way.

The reservoir is undergoing some construction works and is closed. But the cache is still accessible. Workers were there today when I rocked up. They thought I was going to walk into the construction area and were warning me off. I said I was going to another area of the bush to "find something". Obviously my vague response made them think something was up. I thought I was going to have to explain geocaching, but to my surprise the guy I was speaking to knew what it was. So it was a quick find in the end. TFTC
Today was a day for the old ones. Although today's haul wasn't numerous it more than made up for it in terms of quality. All were special in their own way. This in particular reminded me of the one placed in Devil Bend's Reservoir. A pretty spot next to or near the water.
TFTC. After attending the Hellooo 2018 event in Beaufort we took the opportunity to cache our way back to Maryborough. We stopped and went for a short walk to GZ. A quick easy find in a location we would not have visited. The Reservoir looked quite full and we spied a fisherman on the nearby pier.
After only recently relocating to Victoria, the old bug is back and old caches are something I like to find. I was on a bit of a mission this afternoon to find caches hidden in 2001, well 5 actually to add to the 5 I already have.
This was really cool driving to this one from Fortes Ground. I saw sheep being rounded up by sheep dogs and a landcruiser.Really nice scenery from the parking area and the short 90m to GZ from parking was welcomed. Loved how this one was hidden.
Classic Hide/Classic Cache.

Stopped via this cache today to check on the fence situation, as recent logs were suggesting trespassing or jumping fences.
This led us to wonder if the fence situation had changed. It hasn't. There has long been a fence around the perimeter of the Reservoir. However there are a few access points for pedestrians and management vehicles.
We now realise that cachers who have reported difficulties have probably parked on the roadside and tried to cross the fence.
So we have provided a parking waypoint. The cache is an 80-100m walk from the parking area via the pedestrian access gap beside the gate.
And for the fishos...
Fishing is permitted in the Reservoir as long as you have a permit from DEWLP as well as your VFA licence. This is simply because there are restrictions such as no boating, no digging for bait, no animals etc.
Cheers, and enjoy this historial Victorian cache.

We have read the comments regarding the fence and we will try to get out there in the next week or so to review.
This is such a historical cache from the very early years of caching (which is why we adopted it in the first place), so we would rather check out all the alternatives for access and/or cache placement before we consider hitting an archive button.
In the meantime, we have chosen not to disable it at this stage, and to any cachers travelling out this way to find this cache, we will leave it to your judgement as to what you feel is the right thing to do.
Thank you for all the feedback in the logs.

Cache is now within a fenced off conservation area. Elected not to jump the fence as the signs declared it a no go area.
Did feel a tad uncomfortable "trespassing" but hey .... there was a cache to be found and logged - what else could a girl do!!!! TFTC
These are about my closest caches from home that I haven't searched for yet. Deciding since it was not a bad winters day and I was bored at home I would drag the muggle husband and muggle dogs out of the house the grab a few smilies. Once we worked out how to drive down to near GZ we soon had the cache in hand. TFTC!
Have to go trespass around fenced area, stupid water board fencing off hundred of acres of land around the res. Otherwise a nice area and cache to find. Thanks.
We are honoured to be handed custody of these important historic geocaches that were placed by Pyrenees Kid / Wanderers. We will do our utmost to preserve them so that future geocachers may continue to find them and enjoy their special locations.
Caches are certainly fun to find, but the friends we've made through geocaching top it all. Thank you Darryn. Jo and Glen (chooknchunk)

It is with great regret, that I am unable to look after this, and many more of my originally hidden caches. It has pained me that some have disappeared because of my inability to maintain them as I should.
I recently attended the 15-year reunion in Lerderderg Gorge and I met some wonderful people, strong in the Geocaching Scene. They helped me to understand the importance of keeping the original caches alive. One fine couple asked me if they could adopt some of my caches that they- themselves have been secretly maintaining, as they have been unable to contact me. I was astounded, and humbled- and heartily agreed that they could.
So it is with great pleasure- I hear by hand this cache over to “Chooknchunk”
They will be the new rightful owners. I trust they will do a better job than I in looking after this cache, so other Geocachers continue to enjoy searching and finding.
My many thanks to chooknchunk for taking this burden, and if you need any future assistance- you know who to call on.

This was on my to do list today. A short walk in and soon had the cache in hand. I've been past here many times but never stopped. Great to find an aged cache with great co-ordinates.

Having just found GC20D4 and successfully filling the 10/01 Jasmer square, we had this one on our list of cache to do too. Always like finding historically significant caches so we headed off to this one aswell. Having to clamber through a fence is always a worry, but since the cache was only a few meters inside and there was no one around for co-ee, we ducked over and GeoJosiah made the find whilst I looked elsewhere. TFTC!
Out for the day with the Simsfamily and Neviile Devil to find some of Victoria's oldest caches.
Another Great location I wouldn't have know about if it wasn't for caching. The area was popular width fisherman today but we were able to walk the other way out of view.
Log signed and replaced as found.
Thanks for the cache Pyrenees Kid

I have been doing some research on old Victorian caches lately so today after attending the CITO in Ballarat we decided to go the extra few km's to find a few in this neck of the woods.
A beautiful little spot that looks like it attracts a few fishermen.
The cache was found quickly with good coordinates.
Thank you Pyrenees Kid for keeping this old one going

Found with MazzyMay on a caching day. I needed an older cache to qualify for a challenge and on searching found this one was reasonably close by, so we targeted it and did some others as well. Cache was found, a larger size than many put out these days. TFTC
Bit of a Road Trip 'around the block' with SciFiRulz today. This cache was the project of the day. SFR asked if we could do this one and so we made a day of it and what fun it has been. TFTC and maintaining it for all these years. Fav pt
Found with Wozzle68 on a fairly chilly autumn day. We were very relieved to find this old cache given the previous DNF, however all was good. The reservoir is quite full at the moment. Thank you for this cache Pyrenees Kid.
Found this nice old cache in good condition with Chooknchunk during our recon of the general area.
A quick and easy find as we cache our way around the Beaufort area today. Our second last stop for the day on our way home. No echidnas to be seen here today, and we didn't get any of your other caches this trip, but we will be back. You can bet on that. Thanks for bringing us here and thanks for the cache.
We had hoped to make a bit of time and grab a few caches around Mt Beckworth to grab some older caches plus fill in a find in another region so headed over. An easy enough and pleasant walk over to GZ were it was quiet visible but also stuck so after a bit of manovering it was extracted by a different method. Great to see an old cache still going. We completed the signing duties and re hid. TFTC.
A quick find after a stroll on a pleasant day. Thanks Pyrenees Kid, great to see these old ones still in play.
