Once we had decided we would be attending the NZ Mega Event, we went about updating our GSAK database for the South Island and we were surprised to find two caches placed so close together, not realising this cache had actually been archived. Well the cache is still there, with our GPS showing it to be about 5m from where the co-ords were putting us. The river seemed to be flowing quite fast, although it had rained a bit over night so that may have had something to do with it. Thank you for having placed the cache kryshan
This area has had a bit of a tidy up and the cache has gone walkabouts. We've decided to archive as there's not much left in the way of hidey holes here. Will put a few more caches out in the Gore area soon as replacement.
Nice easy find while spending an afternoon in Gore, sadly did not have time to sit and admire the river. TFTC.
Had a through look in the dark with torches, but no luck. Saw a likely hiding spot that had a stone in it and matched the hint location, but no cache to be seen.
Nice river spot, because of the muggles, we placed the cache
on the other side.

Stopped one night in Gore on our way to Te Anau. Happy to discover there were some great caches here Camperwan was parked close to the GZ but managed to find it anyway. TFTC! DallasJr from Sweden
Despite the solid hint it still took a few minutes to hunt down A case of too many options TFTC
impressive houses and nice view never stopped and looked before. Amazing what you miss when ou dont take time to look around. thanks for cache
Like daywalk i walked the whole way round and found it in the last possible spot. tftc
After working my way all around... there it was. How high does the Mataura get when it floods?
That's Gore cleaned up until next time
Time to drop our guide off back home and head to Dunedin.
Thanks for all the caches.

A nice spot for a cache which we located very quickly. River was running very fast after a lot of rain recently. The sun was shining so we had a pleasant hour by the river.

During our 4 weeks holiday in the southern island of NZ we did not only find an exiting countryside and wildlife. The many caches brought us sometimes to places we didn´t expect or planned to go to.
Thank you very much for this. Greetings from Germany.

LOTS of possible spots to look here – and without the handheld to say which end, of course Annie started at the wrong one. River not pretty at all today, but brown & fast & nasty looking. TNLN TFTC
Nobody else around on a windy Sunday afternoon. Parked the CacheMobile right beside and had a good look all around before coming across the hide. Salamat!
First stop on our 40th birthday tour around Southland
What a great thing to do to celebrate such a milestone. Kids and grandparents enjoying geocaching too.

Last time I was here there were muggles at this spot so I had to skip it. It was great to get it this time.
Found 3 of 9 today at 10:45am with WB-Holden. On holidays from Aust' travelling from Invercargill to Dunedin today. Quick stop on our way, easy find, Thanks kryshan.
Searched all around the trees and finally found in a spot the boy had assured me he'd already searched!

Cold frosty morning ,spent the regulation 10 mins looking was just about to give up, went back to the truck ,and looked at the tree and there it was.Excellent.TNLN,TFTC
Didn't read the note until I arrived at GZ - Couldn't find. the cache, then read the note/logs! As I had a coffee after finding a couple of other local caches, I decided to wait to see if the owner would arrive. 11.08am - had to mosey on. Please advise if this was a DNF or if it jusn't was there! River very high.
A big thanks to Pukekos from Pukerau for rescuing our cache and replacing it during the wet weather!
Sorry N!mrod, this was replaced shortly before 1.00pm today. The river has been right over the area where the cache was, the hidey hole very wet, and all the camoflage gone. Should be safe for another 10 years now!
Removed for safe keeping at 1435 today. Got wet feet retrieving it, and the river is yet to peak. All going well, will be returned by Saturday 11 a.m.
1600hrs GPS pointed to tree at the other end, forgot to allow margin of error. After searching a couple of times around the wrong tree that actually appeared to be the best candidate frustration drove us to the other end. All in all only took a few minutes anyway. The Italian Job was here......! Our blog www.motorhominginxs.blogspot.com
One of the many times I have looked everywhere but the cache location! Found it on about the 5th lap.

Would be a very peaceful spot were it not a bit affected by all the noisy traffic; still nice though.
Thanks.

While crossing the bridge we stopped and looked down into the Mataura River and saw 3 trout swim by. Found OK. TFTC
#1181 (3/13 Invercargill to Dunedin). Nice spot by the river. Quick find. TFTC.
This is the mecca of Flyfishing I hope to catch a few trout in the next few days. Sure looks fishy from here. TFTC
Great day for a bike ride in Gore - sunny and warm. We learned a bit about Mr Money, who donated many of his art works to the local museum - worth a visit. He was born in NZ but immigrated to the USA. Very interesting life story - I recommend googling him - could be weird enough for a movie!

My 10th find of the day! A nice easy one to find - was watched by a muggle from the bridge, but I used my stealthing to put the cache back unnoticed.
Out for a geocaching drive with Mum from South Africa. Mum found this one. Had to keep a good look out for muggles.

Found it on the way to a big 4WD trip through Central Otago and southland. TFTC.
The trees seem to be full of material from the river when it floods. The Mataura must REALLY come up when there's heavy rain!
I could stand to be corrected on some of these facts but it believe that....this area is called Longford because this was the location of the longest ford in NZ, those fording here would make a long diagonal crossing in the downstream direction.
As for the cache: Found in seconds, and the stegan juniors had great fun sitting on the bench making trades. Kids really do love trading items so a big thanks to any cacher who make a deposit!

We visiting the big trout and pressed into the GPS "closest cache" and oh my goodness someone has put a cache right outside the house that my family lived at, at the time of my birth. Great place for a cache. My dad built no 2 across the road. People said he was mad at the time but it was a great place to live. We did have the odd river flood but never higher than the base of the garage door. Great to see the old house added to and the garden looking great. Mum would be so pleased. Wonderful place for a cache. When we were kids we used to canoe right here and had so much fun living right on the river. Good place for a picnic too. Thank you for placing the cache here. Wow that tree has grown. Left The Organist's Travel Ingot here as dad showed me how to pan for gold on this river.
