I took the train out to Paraparaumu for a golf date. I am early, but I planned for this and brought my bike along. So I sort of did a loop around town before heading out towards the golf course to do more.Proud to say I have found the caches on the tops of some of our North Island mountains. I particularly liked the climb up Taranaki.Nice find here. And the golf? I completed my round of nine with a score of seventy-five! Frigging AWESOME!! Supergolfingman!! (hey, it is my second ever game, and the last one was over thirty years ago!). My golfing partner got similar so we were well matched Smile

Today was a day, and for reasons... I needed to get out and about and Geocaching was the answer. So I did just that. My decision was further reinforced by finding, amost several others, a cache that contained a bunch of motivational quotes. One was "Today I choose to be happy" which was definitely the focus of today. Here was one of the geocaches I found.I had solved this puzzle some time ago without any issues, and on arrival the hide location seemed obvious and sure enough a cache was quickly found. At which point it got a bit odd, as the log paper was blank except for the (correct) name of the cache. I wrote my name and returned as found. Back at the car I had a look at the recent activity and saw the usual suspects but no indication of a recent log change. I gotta wonder if there are multiple containers here (it happens).---Thanks to bkj97 for placing and maintaining this cache. I enjoy each and every cache I find, and it is only with Geocachers like this creating them and placing them out in the world that this wonderful game continues.[DGSc-Bulk] tagging to help me generate a list for GC30AD8 - DGSc Challenge.

Worked this one out with my sister a considerable time ago. In fact Id forgotten about it! Shes staying with us for a few days and reminded me to go look for it. Thats what I did. Found it reasonably quickly. #6873. TFTC.

26-Nov-23
My brother and sister-in-law and I worked this one out months ago so whilst Im in Wellington for a few days Im happy to find this cache. A great spot here and a favourite for this interesting puzzle. We made it a bit of a mission to find the way to this cache and walked up the hill instead of driving. Rather appropriate for the title of this cache! Thanks for setting this one up

26-Sep-22
Maybe climbing a mountain was not necessary to find this cache but I happened to do that anyway having just come back down from the hills of the Akatarawa forest before stopping here on the way home. It wasn't where I imagined this would be at all but a quick find all the same. The puzzle was reasonably fun to complete but it was a bit of a work which is why I had not attempted to solve it until recently. TFTC.

12-Sep-22
A very enjoyable challenge to test my knowledge of our geography, bit of a slog at the end to get the exact numbers right. Then the final also was an enjoyable challenge biking there with a bit of a slog at the end as I headed uphill and it started to rain!. Very worthwhile cache.

28-Aug-22
Mostly solved this several months ago. We made fast and enjoyable progress through the puzzle, fairly confident we had everything correct, only to be denied by the checker.
We put it aside and forgot all about until last week where we went through the whole thing again just to check. Turns out we just made one little counting error originally.

Had to help a friend jumpstart their car this morning in the vicinity of GZ, so thought we’d swing by to retrieve. A bit of water in the outer container but other than that all good with cache.
Thanks!

A braing-scratching puzzle that visited many of my favourite places in NZ. FP from me! But I couldn't solve the puzzle, despite a number of re-visits, until I finally noticed something crucial that I'd omitted. After that, a quick green tick. Today, all quiet at GZ, so a quick find. Thanks, bkj97, I've really enjoyed working this puzzle! Tftc!

05-Mar-21
solving this should have been straight forward but some how i got one mountain range confused with another. . same no of letters even, but once my error was pointed out with help from the C O i came up with suitable co ords and then it was a matter of waiting until a day was set aside to go down and visit paraparaumu and attempt some of the Wherigos there at the same time.
Thank you for this interesting puzzle and deserves a fav point from me, thank you.

05-Mar-21
It was a good day to go with haydn.seek to the Kapiti area today leaving the rain behind us as we travelled south. Today's caching was not about numbers but rather to focus more on special caches, particularly Wherigos and learn more about doing them. SearchSteve joined us when we got down there and later we had the very helpful support and assistance of Flowerydaze and Tallia64 in learning how to do a reverse Wherigo. This was much appreciated. Smile

This cache provided a good little test of some NZ geography and was a bit of a mission to solve at times, but just like climbing a mountain you get there in the end if you keep going! Smile The find was quite straightforward and actually somewhat easier to get to than it had seemed when viewed on the map. Thanks for the puzzle and the cache. Gets a fav.

Find number 7250. I was on a mission to Wellington to watch a horse I have shares in race at Trentham tomorrow so I cached in this area. I am not a peak bagger but I was pleased to bag this cache. Thank you for the placement.

#8825. I had to come up to the Kapiti Coast today to do some maintenance on one of my caches. So decided to pick up a few others while up here as its a while since I last searched this region for geocaches. I looked at this puzzle either during lockdown or soon after. Printed out the page so I could do the crossword. I was rather pleased my knowledge of NZ geography is quite good and I could answer 90% of the questions without phoning in my friend Mr G.O.Ogle. Soon had the coordinates and the coveted green tick. Arrived at GZ to find a taxi parked nearby. So I parked down the road and was able to approach so I was not too obvious to the taxi or neighbours. Quick find of the cache. Moved away. I signed the logbook and replaced the cache hide as found. Thanks bkj97 for the fun and educational puzzle cache.

15-Aug-20
Failed this one last attempt so took plenty of time and was careful this time. Still wrong! On a whim, added a number and - bingo - success! Don't know why, but was mighty pleased to finally get the tick for this one. Cache all good. Thanks very much for the puzzle and cache.

Quick TB visit.

Almost felt like pass the parcel when trying to log it. Had to do this puzzle twice as got the first time wrong so went back to square one. In the end, checked them and got the green tick. Came to find this one in the dark and just as I was about to give up, found it. Thanks for the puzzle cache

Thanks for the puzzle cache bkj97
I enjoyed solving the crossword and then finding the coords for GZ... it was cool
After a multi today in Kaitawa Reserve and then a disabled troll's treasure, I found this an easy find at GZ.

TNLNSL... Thanks for the cache bkj97!!

Enjoyed the crossword and puzzle, found the cache quickly, log is soaking wet and I couldn't sign it so added in another sheet of paper (the back of my crossword!)

Up in Kapiti for a couple of days for work. This one had been sitting on my solved pile so this evening headed over to make the find. Nice quick find at the top of the mountain (nearly). Now to head off and grab a few more. Thanks for the puzzle and thanks for the cache.

20-Apr-17
I finally sat down to solve this a few months ago. The crossword was quite tricky (hence the difficulty rating!). Once that was done it was a bit simpler to get through the rest of the puzzle to come up with the final coordinates. I was in the area today so decided to come past to make the find. Quite simple in the end. Picked up the trackable. TFTC

17-Dec-16
TV visit.

11-Dec-16
TB drop off. Hope the owner checks out the page and learns a bit about our mountains

06-Dec-16
A mission in more ways than one. It took me an age to gather all the answers to the crossword and another age to match them to the map. Thankfully, Geochecker liked my answer first time (Yee-haa!) and I headed off for a relatively quick find. The cache hasn't been disturbed for a while so it took a bit of digging to uncover it in its hidey-hole.

TFTC, FP awarded for the geography lesson!

18-Feb-16
Gee whizz, no visitors since 31 Oct 2015.
Had the puzzle all sorted and then the opportunity to visit GZ.
As you can imagine, given the period of time between visits it was necessary to do some 'deep divining' before I could surface with the goods. But made it in the end.
Cache in order; yes, the log is a tad soggy, but OK to use. So, signed and then safely re-hid the cache just as found.

I had printed this out a couple of years ago, but did not complete until this week. A few of the answers I knew, but google searches helped a lot, and with a bit of time, eventually I had the co-ordinates.

We are in town for a few days, and this cache was a must find! I did not even turn on the GPS thanks to google maps I knew where I had to look, and with a reach I had the cache. A little damp inside, but no problems with signing. Thanks for the puzzle and bringing us to this lovely spot (our friends used to live on this road - so close!) Big Grin

22-Aug-15
An interesting puzzle - I'm a little ashamed to say I had to Google every question except two.
A quick find of the cache in its mountain hideaway this morning. Thanks very much for the cache.

04-Jun-15
Called in as I was passing, and the hunch paid off! 6th find for the 100 10 7 challenge today, and a most excellent puzzle and appropriate location. Have a FP

Thanks for the cache. I found it on 1/06/15 at 11:07 am.
Great cache. Took a few attempts to work out the clues etc but perseverance by Mary the puzzle queen saw us finally arrive at GZ on Queen's Birthday! Quick park and grab today. Thanks.

Cache # 2,483 - Enjoyed working on the puzzle over several weeks, little bit at a time. Found out a lot of new things about the NZ Mountains. THanks. Quick find this morning at the GZ - almost a lonely cache. Just-Lookin signed log on 11 December - a little more than 5 months ago. TNLNSL. TFTC!

14-Feb-15
Out collecting a few more caches in the area today with tmann421.

I actually signed the log on this one back in December, and only remembered when in the area that I had not logged it.

I enjoyed the puzzle - interesting, fairly easy and I learned new things about some of our majestic mountains. The coordinates took me straight to the cache site. Thanks for the puzzle and thanks for the cache.

10-Nov-14
Got home last night pretty chuffed after finishing snakes and ladders so flicked on my "The Masters Puzzles" filter in GSAK to see what I had left to choose from. This one popped up and I thought, I'm from New Zealand, I can do crosswords, and I know what a mountain is..... Piece of proverbial..... I got all the way to question 2 before I was looking at names I had never heard of! Well at least I know how to use Google and after a coffee or two I had things 97% complete so it was onto GeoChecker for a bit of the old "hit and miss". After half a dozen or so misses it was time for a hit and that wonderful big green tick appeared. Well done me and all in time for bed at 4:00 AM!!! Visited GZ this evening for a nice easy find. SLTFTC and the geography lesson.

10-Nov-14
I am actually so happy that my parents have taken into solving all these puzzlws, they seem quite difficult from what I've heard! A nice walk to the already found GZ (thanks, dad) so overall a fast cache for me

17-Aug-14
This was a must do as we were down this way and love the mountains great puzzle TFTC

17-Aug-14
Heading home to New Plymouth from our three day road trip to attend I.G.D. in Wellington, stopped to grab this previously solved puzzle. Love it when a plan comes together and the cache is exactly where it's supposed to be (even according to Google Earth!) Nice views from up this 'mountain'. TFTC... Number 17 today

17-May-14
Phew, as Sir Ed said - 'we knocked the bas**d off!'. Really well set up puzzle. Discovered some things I hadn't known before (which is one of the nice side-benifits of caching) and it worked out in the end (however I must put my hand up - I did as the CO to check my co-ords so I could focus on what was wrong - I found I had a small calculation error Sad ). The final is in a lesser known spot, but there is great view just round the corner! Worth a FAV for effort involved to set this one up.

10-May-14
Quietly went about solving this one last night knowing I was coming up the coast today. Drove past the GZ thinking that the spot would be right and so it proved. A nice outlook looking around. TFTC

18-Apr-14
Find #1907. Enjoying Good Friday with a bit of caching. Getting mighty hot here - 26 degrees for Kapiti today - the warm air from ex-tropical Cyclone Ita. Solved this one many months ago and was finally in the area today. Nice wee hide. SL TFTC

07-Mar-14
I'd had a good crack at solving this puzzle many months ago. I particularly enjoy these types that enable me to partially solve before I have to start researching information and learning stuff along the way.

I didn't manage to get the Geochecker tick of approval then and put the cache in the "too hard" pile. It finally made its way to the top of the pile for a second pass and I immediately discovered my error - pretty much a case of tripping over the final hurdle in the home straight! Having now read the earlier logs, I suspect at least two others have made the same error.

This evening presented the perfect opportunity to search for the cache on the way to a holiday destination further north. It was pretty much where I expected it would be and I was soon signing the logsheet. TVMFTC.

It has been brought to my attention that the original calculation for B has been subject to amendment due to new survey data. However the height used for calculation was based on the height that was current in 2009 when the cache was published. Most atlases will have that recorded height although on line data search for that particular mountain may be 30 metres less. I have amended the hint for the clue so that confusion should no longer exist. Good luck.

I solved this Mountain puzzle many years ago. Today was the day ordained to sign it off my NI unfound list. Had to wait out neighbours talking before making my approach and signing. Thanks for the cache.

08-Oct-13
The cache container was exposed and missing its lid. Drained the container of debris and water and added a log sheet in a plastic bag as the logbook was AWOL. Have inverted the container to protect from elements and nestled it as I would expect it to be.

08-Oct-13
Found it or at least what was left. Container had lid missing and no logbook present. Full of dirty water. Left temporary sheet in plastic bag and inverted container. Covered as found. Loved the puzzle and learnt some new areas of NZ.

07-Oct-13
New lid in place. Will insert new logbook asap but thanks to last finder for the temporary log.

03-Oct-12
I solved this one a long time ago, I finally managed to track down the final today TFTC bkj97

8.30am. Did the puzzles last night and then took a while to get the geochecker to work as I had entered 174 instead of 175!! I had everything else right the first time. Took my grandaughter to the station so carried on for a frosty find. Am surprised the previous finder had not been up here for the cache that is (or was?) in the premium place. Thanks for another great puzzle, at least I can do this sort! Fav. point from me.
Thank you. David.

29-Jan-12
Down from Auckland for the day with 10centcoin, on a mission to find some caches around the Wellington region. Enjoyed solving this one at home one evening last week. Probaly about half was done from memory, and the other half were kind of "Oh, I knew that!" once googled. Only had one issue with one 'mountain' down south, where the answer is actually quite wrong - not the island's highest little mountain at all, but still figured it out, and made the find today. GPS was pointing off down the hill, which was a bit of a worry at first, but we had no trouble with the find in the obvious location. Great view from just around the corner. TFTC!!! Big Grin

15-Dec-11
Being an ex-geography teacher and keen tramper, it has taken far too long to tick this one off. Did the puzzle a few months ago but geochecker said "wrong". However the spot looked a likely one so contacted the owner who confirmed that this was the correct "mountain". A straight forward find without too much rope and tackle being involved. Thanks bkj97 for this enjoyable and instructive puzzle.

06-Nov-11
Yup, it was a bit of a mission! Took a lot of research to track down the answers. The find was more straightforward, though it needed some poking of the covering material with my walking poke to get the satisfying "clunk".
Thanks for the puzzle and the cache.

06-Nov-11
#2729. Troodles solved the puzzle, and found the cache. TFTC.

11-Jun-11
Spent quite a long time nutting this one out! But finally got a positive from geo checker, so was determined to get this one as we went past today. It was about 9.30 by the time we got there. Unfortunately our torches were spotted by a neighboring muggle, who wanted to know what we were up to. We explained, & she had heard of geo-caching, so was happy to let us carry on. Cache was then found without problem. Might pay to check on it in a week or two though - just to be sure she hasn't taken it! Left a pet rock - a chicken. TFTC & the geography lesson.

14-Feb-11
Dropped off TB from Portugal. Hope the dog enjoys the view.

24-Jan-11
Finally after hours on this puzzle, geochecker kept telling me I had the wrong co-ords, however when mapped it looked like a likely place, which ended
up taking me to the cache so I don't know what went wrong here. Big thanks to Tmann for your help here and fabulous to get a smiley face on this one. thanks so much for the cache, and my geography is abit wiser. No sign of travel bug.

06-Jan-11
Had to do a fair bit of Google research for this one - it's a long time since high school geography. Eventually had all the mountains linked to the right numbers and soon had the co-ords of the cache. Found the cache today - glad we didn't have to climb a mountain to get it. Good educational puzzle, thanks.

Figured out where this was before completing the solution, but played purist and got all the digits right before bagging it. As a result, a very quick find once onsite. Swapped travel bugs for geocoins -more than I'd intended to be honest, got the sets a bit mixed up. Will make amends by moving them on as quickly as possible. Great puzzle, very well put together.

Dropped off a couple of TBs. A jeep for negotiating off road mountain trails and a travel slug which is probably appropriate for the speed at which things move from here since Xmas. Get on your boots and check ropes and ice axes and come and clear these and other TBs out.
