Due to works at GZ which look like they are there to stay for a bit, I will be archiving this cache, its had a great run whilst in action, hope everyone enjoyed it!
Had tried to find this cache earlier this year but stopped because of snakes on a hot day. Wen back and found that GZ was completely different; thanks to the work of the Sunbury Electrification Project. I'm suspicious that this has gone to glory . I took some photos (attached) from around GZ.
On our way to Bendigo for the Flash Mob event, we dropped in to log this cache. A fair bit of road construction work being done here, but no one took any notice. Was a bit apprehensive about snakes at GZ but all was well today.
Thanks Jonti for the cache.
Thanks Jonti for the cache.
Found with gutterkat! Tnln. Awesome little spot, train passed by as we opened the cache. Mind the snails!
Found after lunch at Maccas on our way back from the Bass Coast. In sandals and shorts I shuddered when I saw the growth but it turned out it didn't matter. TFTC
Took a little while to find the cache - the coords were a little off but pointing to a likely "landmark" - expanding the seach uncovered the hiding place. TFTC
A suprising number of land snails (native?) in the area on the plants, seeing as the landscape is quite dry.

A quick find with Teamppss on our return home from a trip to the Organ Pipes and a special mission to Melbourne to place a TB at 000 - Victoria Police (multi cache). TNLN TFTC
Found with Aussiepuschaks on return from the city, very long grass about so beware of snakes TFTC
#1 of 8 today on a drive to Daylesford. Glad we didn't have to go into the long grass to find. Found with RollaB. TFTC.
Got close to GZ but the warm weather and the long grass made risk aversive , particularly toward snakes. Will try another time.
The length of the grass (shoulder height) made the Chief nervous when we first pulled up but he soon had the cache in hand. TFTC
Reperio at 1945. Stopped by here on our way home to Castlemaine from visiting the Organ Pipes, and parked at the end of the dirt road and short walk later soon had the cache in hand. Luckily didn't have to venture into the long grass.
Gratias.

1st cache on a Elwood to Daylesford, round trip, caching day. We were a little worried about Snakes and other creepy crawlies put luckily we didn't have to venture to far of the path. Found with Jackam. TFTC
Headed out tonight to do some northern suburb caching. This one brought back memories of the days I used to drag race my Chrysler Centura at Calder Park. Parked next to GZ and made a nice easy find. Thanks for the hide.
Found this cache with 2 other while done on holidays from QLD.
Location had a lot of spiders so please use caution.

Jonti from Bendigo is receiving quite a geocaching reputation. We parked at Maccas and the caching partners wanted to get this cache before we ate, so we walked to the cache. It was a funny look with one caching partner in her dancing costume and the other in her high heals. We found the cache no problem. We took a torch and left an Aldi keyring. TFTC
Found it @ approx. 16:10

#593 @ 3.40pm. Heading to rendevous with our friends before boarding the Spirit of Tasmania we decided to pick up a couple of nearby caches. Dad had to go solo on this one as we were probably parked in the wrong area so the Queen stayed with The GeoPrincess. It took about 5 mins before Dad checked a spot & Bingo!

Tftc nice spot to watch all the cars on track and highway! Dropped of coin and swapped toy for Dino.
Stopped off here while on my way to Bendigo for a 18th Birthday party.
Visited the nearby shops and went for a walk. Crossed the railway line and walked straight past the cache towards the wood pile. Had a look, but I was still a few meters away so went back and there it was. TFTC.

1st one done today on a days caching with xesist ,nice easy drive-by tnln tftc.
Another day of caching with vicbradybunch. First find for the day. Container seems to be slightly damaged and might be susceptible to the elements, might pay to place a new container for this cache. TNLN, TFTC.
Heading out of Melbourne I had some spare time so made the effort for this quick detour. Stumbled over the cache hiding location - literally - which saved some time out of the rain. TFTC.
A run along the rail line from Watergardens, along a suprisingly good "road"....for what purpose, I wonder? Thanks.
Found 14:35, during a day of caching with Muzza.

We noticed someone had carved up the track as we walked to the cache. Must have been the geocacher on friday.
A nice easy find only 70m from the main road so our car remained clean!

This was a hilarious outting that nearly ended in my own "Crash Zone". Having not read the cache page I thought it was refering to the fallen tree just nearby so I ignored GZ and went there. A quick futile search and returning to the car I spied the container right where the GPS said it should be! How Appropriate a hide! Signed Log, Replaced, Then the fun began. The saturated narrow muddy track was a slight worry in a front wheel drive ute. After deciding reverse was not the best gear to be in I took on Plan B. Drive forward through the mud until I had enough room to turn around. I could see good firm track just up the hill, but a big puddle right in front of me was blocking the way! So I gunned it and burst the not-as-shallow-as-I-guessed puddle assunder, drenching the ute in brown water but reaching the ridge safely. A quick u-turn and I faced the mud slalom. With already mud caked tyres I needed some good spin on the hard track to clean them before hitting the sludge. So I dropped the clutch early in first, over revved and had some decent speed on before hydroplaning the first part of the course. The extra grip was only momentarily of help though as changing up to 3rd was quickly acheived to drop the revs and boost the torque to stop me from digging my own holes and becoming bogged. Slipping left and right the next 100m was hairy, and twice I thought I would not be able to correct the slide towards metal fence posts but as the drive wheels hit the grass verge they grabbed enough to ease me to safety. Leaving a trail of discarded road-dirt flying behind me all the way the specticle would have been a sight to behold to the casual observer. Muddy treads would have allowed you to follow me for a mile after hitting the proper road again, and a little later I took the following photo... well done little Proton Jumbuck. You earnt you keep today!

Tristan the Travel Turtle Tag (TTQWTC) has come for a flying visit back in time.
This was the last cache of the night.
The bf decided it would be a good idea to drive down this track which was still damp from recent showers.
Upon turning around back to the main road, we had to had to drive extra slow as the car seemed to have a mind of its own!
The tyres were caked with mud!
Thanks 379Jonti379 for this cache.

The first cache on the way up to the Echuca event. After an easy find a police car was waiting behind mine back at the road. He politely inquired if everything was ok. I showed him the GPS and said " just geocaching". He smiled and said "no worries".
We could have arranged our approach a little better here instead of bashing through the long grass but we found the cache, and a better way back afterwards. Seen some really good drag racing here in the past. Not the stuff they do today but the top Fuellers. Pretty spectacular! Don't know why that has ended here.
Thanks
Thanks
Certainly a busy little spot. We parked on the other side of the tracks, and while we were signing the log, a little train whizzed past. They belt along at a fair speed here.
Must have been a bad crash to bring this here!
Thanks, Robmc.

A quirkly place for this Cache indeed. The Quiet Plodder, after catching a V/Line Train to Diggers Rest then a Bus from there along the very busy Calder Freeway plodded forth to grab this one. Mind you, crossing the Calder Freeway around 7:30am on a weekday in dull dawn light was one of the scariest things I have ever done! After finding the Cache, waving to the sardine Commuters headed toward the City in a couple of Trains that 'fled' past, it was time to 'retreat' to the nearby 'Service Centre' for a 'nerve settling' Coffee before once again crossing the Freeway onto the next Cache - struth, it's a busy roadway. Not the place really for plodders I suspect. Thank you to '379Jonti379' for a nify Cache and hide - I'd never have gone here otherwise if not for Geocaching and one to remember for the 'challenge' in a public transport and plodding sense. TNLN. Arriving at 12.34pm after a quick bite to eat, Mrs AMM9449 found the clever cache at 12.40pm! After our little bingle earlier on this morning at the local shops, we thought it only appropriate to honour Crash Zone! Mrs AMM9449 is thankful for the distraction!!
Found at 0510 on the way to Bendigo for the 3 events being held there today .Another crash zone was the outside bend on the freeway here before it was duplicated and barriers installed and was a 2 way narrow road - that was hairy . thanks 379Jonti379
Found by Mary & David at 1025 on the way to a day in Bendigo. David used to come here to see the racing back in the late 60s/early 70s, when Norm Beechey, the Geoghegans and Bob Jane were the sedan stars. That was well before the circuit took on its present shape and the various big earth mounds were added. The place has a sorry, neglected air about it now. Our thanks to 379Jonti379.
Traveling to Bendigo to attend the events there today we had our second attempt at this cache but this time we found the right exit off the freeway. The cache was a nice easy find with no action at all at the nearby raceway. We continued on passed the cache to do a u-turn and found a very interesting blue stone culvert
Thanks 379Jonti379 for the cache

Approaching from the west we came across a rather unusual obstacle about 1km from GZ where we assume the tailgate of a truck in transit to the recycling centre had come undone leaving a dozen or so large lumps of concrete in the middle of the road.
Ah, this cache brings back vivid memories of my own Crash Zone incident at the nearby raceway.
Forty something years ago when I was racing motorcycles there was a dirt track inside the bitumen circuit. I had got away to a good start but in the first corner another rider trying to overtake me hooked his elbow in my handlebar.
By the time I had stopped flip-flopping up the track and rolled myself into a ball to avoid being hit the other riders had all safely passed but it did conclude my racing for the day.
Thanks for the cache and the memories.
Cheers

I was on my way to the Merrimu Event today and took the opportunity of approaching from the north and picking up a few fairly isolated caches on the way. I like these quiet little drive-bys and had no trouble zeroing in on the rather nicely concealed hide. I can remember Calder Raceway way back before it was the "ThunderDome" and, each time I go past, I can't help but speculate on how many dump trucks it took to pile up those huge mounds of dirt. I should actually go inside sometime, I guess, just to see what the effect is like!

FTF at 7.15am on the way to work today. Actually I had to do two U-turns to get to this one but it was worth it.
