As this cache has been out of action for too long, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. If you wish to repair/replace the cache sometime in the future, just contact us (by email), and assuming it meets the guidelines, we'll be happy to unarchive it.

I noticed that this cache has been in need of owner maintenance for an extended period of time well in excess of the period of "a few weeks" as contemplated by the cache guidelines published on Geocaching.com. While I feel that Geocaching.com should hold the location for you and block other caches from entering the area around this cache for a reasonable amount of time, we can't do so forever. Please either repair/replace this cache, or archive it (using the archive listing link in the upper right) so that someone else can place a cache in the area, and geocachers can once again enjoy visiting this location.
If you plan on repairing this cache, please log a note to the cache (not email) and then repair the cache within the next 30 days so I don't archive the listing for non-communication/action.

In light of previous log and not found so many times, this one needs to go. Nothing there for me today either.
Out and about in the Whitford area hunting for a few caches we still had not found. We were unlucky with this one although the GPS very definitely took us to a very likely spot. Whilst we were searching we had a visit from the householder across the paddocks who claimed that his land and his responsibilities included the berm, where the cache is or was, and out to the centre of the road. He was extremely concerned because of alleged incidents with folk rustling his cattle. He eventually realised that we were not doing so but nevertheless we gave up any further searching having decided that the cache was probably not there any more.
Count me in for a dnf too. Needs some attention from the owner please.
Dnf on 26 Sep.

No luck for myself and Geco72 today. Too many possible hiding places, and so many other targets to chase, so we gave up on this one after a decent search.
I dislike Flaxes, and blackberry even more, but we gave this one a go...however after a thorough search in which the flax stabbed me in the eye and the blackberry bit me a few times we gave up and moved on. A lot of spots for a lil systema to hide!
Hunted around for a while with two others but couldn't find it. There's a lot of clover now and the area's a bit overgrown.
After reading previous log i went prepared with gloves, jumper, jeans and a stick but still nothing to found, has been over a year since last found so some owner mantinace may be required here me thinks.
Found GZ easily but was hestiant to look as only had jandals and no gloves - lots of blackberry. Will come back another time when we are more prepared.
GPS jumped around a bit but a relatively quick find none the less. TFTC
XC and TK out and about on Bike to pick up a few around this area.. Nice day for caching..
Stopped here not knowing there was a bird garden here.. Will come back one day to visit.
Cache was somewhat exposed. TK signed and replaced with a little local flora to help camo.

This cache has been out on a limb for sime time. Quick find today, not sure if the cache was meant to be so exposed but returned as was found. TFTC.
We were on the wrong side to begin with. Went around to the other side and searched. Was just about to leave when i realised where it was hidden. Luckily, i was able to get to the cache without too much struggle. TNLNSL - TFTC!
On a mission today to bring up 300 finds including a hike out to Flat Island. With the mission completed, I thought I would grab a few caches on the way home. Last of the trip was yet another Gadget-tron cache. Soon found a likely spot to search. Performed an unorthodox caching maneuver and found the cache. That has never worked before! Cheers for the scenic drive up here and making me aware of the Whitford Bird Garden's existence.
Haha we were looking at the wrong site. Finally hubby told us that there where some stones "thrown" on the other side hihihi.
So mother of 84 years and me going and look. We couldn't manage by ourselves, needed some man muscles to get to the cache.
Thanks

Second time here and came right after getting an idea where it was and remembering it haha. Met the owner of the bird garden at the same time. "Are you looking for that GPS thingy? I've been sworn to secrecy" Nice guy lol
Nice sunny spot and said hi to the guy who owns the bird garden. He wouldnt give us any clues though..hahaha. TFTC
3420. The Bird Garden was shut but we did see some Lorikeets flying along the road. We found the cache quickly.
Thanks

Good spot. Local saw us and asked us "are you guys doing that GPS thing". Sprung!
Took smiley magnet and left a star ring as well as our signature eraser. TFTC.

Arrived on a rather drizzly day. At first we thought, oh no, not the dreaded plant, but it turned out to be a rather nice hide after all. TFTC.
A bit ironic that the Bird Gardens are closed due to extreme drought conditions & there I was standing in the rain trying to find the cache on my first visit. Was muggled by two house owners so had to explain my odd behavour. Was off the idea of looking too hard so returned for a easy find.
2.00pm. Not too difficult to locate. Nice rural viewpoint . Beautiful day.
Left a smiley face magnet, took a penguin bling.

After being the first to post the "DNF", was somewhat relieve to find out the problem wasn't me.
Found it quickly and easily, in exactly the place I expected it to be.

Didn't know about the Bird Gardens - too bad they were closed today. Got a fright at all the xxxx's in the cache location, but good to see it was not part of the hiding place. TFTC
Found as part of my three week caching trip from Wellington to Auckland - # 887. Thanks.
Pitty the bird garden isnt open on sunday's, but it was still a nice drive there. T4TC
My heart sank as I saw wht the GPS was pointing at, but in the end no probs.

After 2 DNFs I decided to check on the cache this morning and noted it is GONE. Grass has been cut recently and suspect the cache was spotted and "Disposed" of. I have now replaced with a 200ml Sistema. Please ensure well hidden to ensure this one is not lost. Thanks
No amount of hunting revealed the cache to me. Left no stone unturned. Try again next time, when I will probably spot it before coming 'round the corner.
Quick find on way to Ak. Was mugged by house owner asking why people kept looking around the plants. 10.00am
Out showing some relatives around the East. Had a lovely time going through the Bird Garden. Very interesting and well worth the visit. Found Cache afterwards. Lid took a moment or two. SL TNLN. TFTC.
Uploaded some photos of the birds and creatures we were stunned with.

Arrived at the Whitford Bird Garden and headed for GZ. A nice quick find, despite the abundant flax! TFTC.

Arrived at GZ...Oh no! Not in the middle of that! Had the required tool and it turned out to be a quick and easy find. Thanks.
Had to wait for a cocky to finish moving some cattle, a coin works fine as a tool.

Was already asleep last night when the cache got published.

Out with KiwiEric after diner. Quick find.
