Im currently on the great novo Leap Day road trip of 2024 which starts in the north east of VIC and heads to Mildura via Echuca and Swan Hill, then on into SA through the Riverland and Barossa before heading to Adelaide for [The Leap Day event](https://coord.info/GL1BKDZBZ), and then the Adelaide Hills and greater ADL area for some cache cherry-picking before heading south to Millicent via the Fleurieu Peninsula. This is probably the biggest geocaching road trip I have undertaken to date with around 200 finds planned!A shorter caching day today after having an awesome overnight stay with a long-time muggle friend in McLaren Vale. I had a look at this puzzle a few months ago in anticipation of an imminent trip out this way. Got it first shot after doing up a quick spreadsheet, earning me green tick #101. I would love to have had time to do more puzzles on the Fleurieu but the last three months or so have been insane - there's always next time. Anyway out here today on a lovely 29 and sunny kinda day to do some serious rock-hopping. I live on the NSW central coast and so I'm fairly familiar with a bit of rock-hopping but this was next level! As I approached the final bit, I had to navigate my way around a dead cow which I'd say had recently fallen from above. Once past it, the stench was coming up with me with the draft up the gulley and it was horrendous. So the hint in the checker proved helpful in order for me to find it relatively quickly so I could get moving outta there after a quick selfie and pic of the log. I was really bummed that I didn't have a spare container with me in the back pack; I should have read the previous log first as I have a number of spare Sistemas with me on this trip in the car. So sorry to the CO as I SL but had to just put what is left of it back how I found it. This slope is so incredibly steep - quite tough getting up and down as the small rocks like to move under your feet! Great journey and location for a cache, and unique little puzzle earns a FP. Definitely adding more of this CO's caches for a next trip. TFTC and puzzle, Zytheran.#1893

I was in the area to attend the Rapid Bay CITO. After picking up some rubbish i so I stopped here for an adventure. The puzzle was solved years ago but I havent spent anytime in this part of SA so had not previously had the opportunity to go for the find. This was an awesome adventure. Amazing rock formations and dramatic coastline followed by a pretty decent scramble up some steep terrain. Cache itself is not in great shape and could do with replacing but I didnt have anything suitable with me. It was most rewarding to find a high terrain Z cache in such a beautiful part of SA. A favourite point from me. Two years without a find. Hopefully the next finder doesnt take as long. Thanks for the cache Zytheran.# # SmileSmile #13940 SmileSmile # #

A nice walk with Tallbikestan. The cache container is smashed and there is no protection for the logbook. Sorry we didn’t have anything on us to fix it. We have covered what is there with a rock. TFTC Zytheran

This geocacher reported that the container is damaged.

Tried but failed. Calculated the lowest tidy. Spent 2 hours on car, 1 hour on foot, half an hour searching, 1 hour to walk back, and 2 hours to drive home. Risked life to climb to the GZ, flipped rocks and checked bushes, found no cache. Considering the cache size, it should be easy to find. I just ran out of luck and time. Will try it again next time. Thanks for the view and the experience.

It seems like 6 years since we solved this one.
Probably becaause we solved it in 2014...
We are both competent at sums so even back then when reasonably inexperienced in puzzling this oen wqas pretty straight forward.
However being in the area with the appropriate tide and some time never seemed to happen.
Until today.
Brad had dived with a couple of friends under the Jetty at Rapid Bay and checked Willyweatehr as he was leaving Rapid Bay. It said low tide was about 90 minutes away. That seemed perfect.
On arrival it appeared that there are low tides and low tides. This one was clearly not the lowest but was still ebbing so off he went.
Finally and with only one wet sock he arrived at the right valley.
He had spoken to a recent finder and a very early finder both of whom suggested the GPSr would be less useful near GZ and that Brad should look in a bush.
After searching a few very thorny bush Brad found the container under a pile of rocks where the geocheck hint suggested it might be. But metres away from any bushes.
In the logbook he did not see the name that logged it online in 2021 but he did see a number of muggle families who had wirtten in the logbook together.
All was replaced as found.
And a long trip back was begun. Brad took the high road from a spot a bit further south. Definitely a steep climb but great views.
Brad was very tired by the timne he got home!
A great cache for our 6000th find Smile
Thanks yet again Zytheran Smile

This Zytheran puzzle was rather enjoyable, and since it was completely logical, I knew immediately what I needed to. I setup a simple spreadsheet, and started performing some trial and error. Not before too long, I had the solution. This solve was done a few years ago, and hadn't had the opportunity to visit this one until today.

Today, gridge98 and I had planned to attend the scheduled McLaren Vale CITO, and then continue heading south targeting some high terrain/difficulty geocaches hidden along the coast and within the cliffs. We headed all the way down to Rapid Bay, and then proceeded to stop at Second Valley, then Normanville/Carrickalinga, and finally making a quick stop into Aldinga. We got very lucky with great cool-ish weather, and perfect sea conditions with flat seas and low tide to scramble over any required rocks.

This was one of our targets today, and a thoroughly enjoyable experience. We estimated a 30 min round trip with lunch planned immediately afterwards. Our planning and preparation was poor, as we lucked out with walking out to this one just before the lowest tide forecast for the day, and didn't think about downloading any logs or images ready for this. We made the walk towards GZ, and walked through the arch that was really cool.

Twenty minutes later, we arrived at GZ, and started searching. I proceeded to do a difficult terrain climb thinking about the famous Zytheran scale, but after not finding too much, came back from the cliffs. We weren't finding anything obvious from our vicnity look, and then gridge98 asked if the GeoChecker had mentioned anything. I replied that Zytheran's comments normally didn't, but saw I had indeed saved some comments in my personal notes. So that narrowed down the search area, but we then spent an extra 15-20 min looking in all the places that didn't contain the cache. We had discounted a spot thinking it didn't match the note, and so we split up with me continuing to search and lift rocks, while gridge98 went back along the rocky beach searching for some data coverage to read past logs and uploaded images. I decided to search the discounted location, thinking we couldn't leave here before confirming it wasn't there. I scrambled, and as I got close, glimpses of the cache were seen. I shouted back towards gridge98, and it took him some time to come around and also mentioned he knew where it was. The container was uncovered, names added to the logbook, and an obligatory selfie with the Zytheran cache was had. It took us well over an hour in the end, but a great adventure nevertheless. Thanks Zytheran for the cache placement, a great puzzle, and ongoing maintenance.

Davidwazza has solved this and the tide was right out so we made our way rock hopping between the rocks all the way to GZ, we arrived and the search started, we used the hint in the end but nothing was to be found after about 15mins, I started to head back fo the car to get reception for previous photos, I returned about 29mims later and Davidwazza had the cache in hand. We just needed to go a lot higher oops!

Today Davidwazza and I planned to head down to rapid bay and make our way along the cliffs finding some high terrain Zythern puzzles along with the odd trad and oldie along the way cleaning it up. With the tide way out and the weather being perfect it was a great day out to find 27 caches.

Thanks for the cache.

Found on 8/1/20 after three days of searching with four and, on the second day, six people. Could not work out the riddle but brute forced our way into finding it. Once we came across the obvious spot, we checked and lo and behold it was there. One of the coolest geocaches I've hunted for with some of the best views and scenery to work around and admire.

Solved the puzzle for long time. Today we visited Second Valley, and try to find the cache. I don't know how to proceed to the GZ, and there's still 500m away. Will try it again next time.

02-Nov-19

Well this one has been sitting in Gsak for a bloody longtime!
Today was the day to go for the small trek...
Having done the 5 P's prior to starting out meant that we knew to come from south and to take the high road to within 150m, then head down to water level for last part. With tide still going out, getting to GZ was never going to be a problem!
Walked straight up to the cache and found in the obvious spot.
Alas both if us failed to bring a new container! Sorry.
TNLNSL
Thanks and rebuilt the cairn to try and keep weather out...

03-Feb-18
Can the next finder bring a replacement cache container. The current one has the lid smashed in and the log would be getting wet with each rainfall. Did my best to protect the cache under a pile of rocks.

03-Feb-18
Really enjoyed this one.

The puzzle required a bit of logical trial and error and I got the coords out with some doodling in excel.

The walk along the coastline from Rapid Bay beach was great. More spectacular than the walk from Myponga to Pirates Cave. Bigger rocks, rock pools and cliffs. Strangely easier to
rock hop too - many more flatter footholds.

Getting to GZ was tricky to say the least. My GPS had me climbing on the northern rock wall. After getting stuck and spending 10 minutes trying to get down again, I decided to take 5 and read some past logs.

With sounds advise from the logs, I put the GPS away and worked my way up the guts in a very difficult scramble. I tried stayed to the left, then went across a little too high. Swore a bit, then looked down, swore some more and saw the cache exposed in full view.

I slid back down - really slid back down (!), inspected the cache, signed the log and hid it under a couple of rocks where I found it. I built a small rock cairn to protect the cache. My GPS at GZ had me 45m from the solved geochecked coords. Given where I was, I didn't trust either.

Had lunch under a rock ledge at the bottom watching the fishing boats go by. Great adventure! Now, I'm 1.5hrs past low tide, I can see it coming in, better hoof it!

This little alcove at GZ seems to be where the tide washes up the rubbish from fishing boats. I found 3 west end beer bottles, a thong, 2 squid jags, a broken fishing rod and a plastic white bucket. Took it all away.

If anyone has this on their watch list and is interested in heading out to grab it this coming weekend, please get in touch.

Saturday 3rd Feb will be perfect - 31 degrees and low tide approx 1pm. I'm up for it.

Cheers

TFTC Zytheran. Made harder work than I should have with this one. Puzzle was solved OK which always makes me feel good. But, initially decided to tackle this one from above. Big strenuous walk and trek up steep hill was unnecessary. Went all the way back down and around. When I got near GZ, I struggled with GPS signal, so started a couple of crazy climbs and backed out of them. Eventually scrambled up to the find and signed the log. A good workout and quite the adventure for me.

Have been eyeing this one off for many months, and we finally made it down here. Firstly walked the geomutt from Second Valley north to the trig point- fantastic views from up there. Then headed back down the hill and traversed the rocky coastline. Low tide was in 1hr and although there was a strong northerly blowing with moderately rough seas, I was able to scamper around the rocks to get to the cove where the cache was located. Climbed up the slope, which was rocky but was covered in sour-sobs which felt like they were holding the rocks from sliding from under my feet. Very happy to find the cache and sign it - sure put a smile on my dial, and a smiley on my map. Fav point awarded for the journey and the fun scampering around the rocks. Thanks Zytheran

Rod and I had a plan today to tackle a couple of caches. I'd worked out low tide was going to be at 12:27pm, and we arrived to GZ shortly before then. A quick scramble up the hill, searching on the way, we knew where it was likely to be, but kept looking as we went. We both took different approaches, but both saw the container around the same time. Log stamped. Another unloved Zytheran cache completed. TFTC. 25/03/2016, 12:24 Find #1832

Out and about on days caching with anymules.
This was 2/3 caches I had on my to do list today. We walked and walked and walked and walked then we climbed climbed climbed and more climbing. Found quite quickly after putting GPSr in my pocket as it was useless. Thanks Z for another cache.

11-Jan-15
Back again, almost exactly 2 yrs to the day. The tide was low....very low. The sun was out and the beach was chockas. Rocks were seen, rocks were walked along and rocks were sat on while someone else found the cache.

11-Jan-15
Final find of a triplet of tough terrain caches by Zytheran today. Had Tiger Muffin along to assist.

I recall the puzzle didn't take too long to solve and nutured my love of logic puzzles. Good one.

The trek to GZ was probably the toughest of the day, and while the tide was quite low, I could see how it could rapidly become even tougher with extra water to negotiate. At 500m to go, there was a good view of the potential areas to head to with nothing easy to be seen.

At GZ, my sat loc was attrocious, and with TM giving me a bit of guidance, I was able to avoid some of the more life threatening options and locate the hide. The slipperiness of the terrain was the worst I had experience all day, with almost no purchase available on the slop. Some of those large rocks looked like they'd slide down to the beach at a moments notice The GPS ranged from 29m to 38m to go, even while sitting on GZ.

As a tip, I can say that GZ is straight up the guts but the left hand edge is the better approach with a bit more grip.

Great area to visit, an arduous trip to get here and very satisfying to complete. Thanks, Zytheran.

June Long Week end is now coming to an end and time to head home but why not do a few more caches before leaving and a couple other caches to do before we officially leave the area. Geodad and Geodaughter we met up with Laighside Legends doing a few caches. Not sop Low tide today but they headed off to the location along hard walk for all three cahcers, but they needed to be quick on this one as the tide was starting to come in. for a few minutes could not find the cache but Geodad had been sitting on some rocks and leaning on his hand and no find so geodad climbed higher with GPS to try and work out the position the cache maybe, the a few minutes later discovered Geodad had had his hand on it all the time but did not realise it. But all good signed the log and headed off then time to do the next cache.TFTC

Found It!
Nice little puzzle that my computer had out in a second or two! That was 4 months ago. Today I finally got to go to GZ with the TheKellyGang. Low tide was 0.7m and we did the last 100m with ease just before it turned. Spend a good half hour searching around and since there was no phone signal and even GPS signal was hard to get. Eventually I got a text out to froghoppin who pointed us in the right direction (where Mr KellyGang was sitting!). By this stage the tide was well and truly on it's way back in and we only just got out without getting wet!
For future finders, I reckon a low tide of 1.0m is probably the upper limit if you get there at just the right time and only spend 10-15mins at GZ.
TFTC and the adventure!

Gee I wish all Z puzzles were this easy Smile

Mr Tardis solved this one many moons ago and being in the area for the June Long Weekend it provided the perfect opportunity to grab this one with some caching-partners-in-crime. We planned this journey the say before and arrived just before the tide turned at a 0.7 metre low tide. Some calories were burned taking the low road from the car park to the cache.

A great final location. We took one look and knew the area the cache would be hiding. As with a lot of Z caches, the sting is often in the last 100 metres or so. After getting back to "safer" land we took the high road back which was much easier on the legs.

Signed the log. Thanks for the cache Zytheran

Just loved this one, I use to rock jump in my youth so this brought back some good memories.

Solved this one with some help from fellow jumpers for the June Long Weekend.

Getting that last yardage to the final location really takes it out of you so on the way back we took the high road.

Solved this one twice after loosing the coords, with the JLW so close today was ideal with weather tides and a small group, managed to rock hop to GZ and after a climb soon had our reward the return trip was a little easier but we could not have stayed too much longer or we would have had to wait for the tides to run their course, love the hidden locationTFTC Wink

This gets a big favourite tick! I am not a puzzle person but love the challenge of trying to keep up with Sef and his Geokids. The location of this was impossible to ignore for a Seascout, so I joined the rock hoppers for about a thousand miles along the shoreline to find the prize. I may not have solved the puzzle, but i helped save the Geokids from the perils of the raging sea and in-rushing tide so am claiming a smiley.
It was hard work for this silver-haired cacher but it was fun and the kids were champions to keep up with GeoDad and gave me incentive to keep on the move. The prize at the end of the rainbow was worth it - and so was the pie and chips!! Will try do some photos. If you put another on the coast i will be there again. TFTC Zytheran

This cache has been on the radar for a very long time and finally (as we were staying in Victor Harbor for the Easter weekend) today was the day to go for a 'beach walk'. We had timed our arrival in Second Valley to perfection and even though the low tide was listed as 0.5m and the swell as 0.8 we had no real difficulties traversing the coast line to the cache. So exactly at low tide our party of four (Seascout78, the two geokids and myself) got to GZ. Initially we couldn't find any sign of a cache but as soon as we focused on the higher regions a badly damaged container was found. Luckily we were warned and had a replacement container (with cockroach) ready. After the obligatory photo session (hopefully Seascout will post a couple) we made our journey back and stopped at the local deli for a well deserved Pie and drink. Thanks Z for another awesome cache!

Came back today after checking the tides. Saw a starfish and loved the climb! Mads and my favourite yet for sure.

13-Feb-13
Loved the challenge of getting there with Melissa! Loved having to prepare to get through when the water was out aswell! Smile However im thinking the terrain could be increased as on the way up to the cache we saw a cow skeleton! It must have fallen from the cliff above and toppled down the hill! A bit scary as we had to keep climbing..

04-Feb-13
Phew, this one took some effort!

The puzzle was quickly solved, just in case the tide happened to be low enough when we were there. We spent a pleasant morning snorkelling, and saw the tide going out, so we decided to give it a go. Off we went over the rocks, and all went well until I thought the cache would be reachable from above. Big mistake, don't try this unless you are a goat!!! So all the way down again, hopping some more rocks to finally reach GZ. But the GPS kept pointing 15 metres straight into the rocks, no matter where we went. We had all but given up when I lifted the right rock, found it Smile!

Cache container is in dire need of replacement. Given that I had just painted up a half dozen which would have been suitable (in the traditional Z black too), I didn't even think to throw one in the pack.

As an adept rockhopper I decided to take the path of MOST resistance. The 'hop' along the rock platform was superb. An abundance of marine leaf amongst the permanent rock pools formed by the low tide.
Finding the cache was a whole different prospect. GPSr had a mental breakdown; pointing here, there and everywhere. I checked some 3 star spots and some 4 star spots and even climbed into a slightly precarious 4.5 star spot. The guys in the kayaks offshore must have been wondering what the hell I was doing. Eventually, my curiosity got the better of me and had to check this one other spot. BINGO!!

Cache container is a mess. What's left of it anyway. Could really do with a newbie. Covered with rocks as best I could to prevent intrusion of the aqueous kind. What more could you ask for in a cache?? Maths, rocks, climbing, views and all bundled into a holiday location. TFTC Z.

did the Maths and had the results checked by Emeryco. great cache, memories of exploring as a kid amongst seaside rock outcrops. With 20 20 hindsight we would have got this on the firsts attempt by saving some time. TFTC

Gathered with the Great Pink Hunters and Georated to trek to Low Tide - but after taking the rocky coastal route we arrived at GZ with time running out as the tide was coming in. So we aborted the mission, and came back the next day via the high road giving us more time. Georated climbed the required height and found the cache. So we certainly got our exercise this weekend! Great fun and adventures, thanks Zytherin.

Solved this puzzle a long time ago and it was great to finally go and find it [^].
Checked the tide times and we started out after we had lunch [8].
The rock hopping went on for a long time Razz, with speculation on exactly which little inlet it would be in [?].
Finally made it to the sea level point near GZ before climbing, and climbing, and climbing Razz.
Found the cache with no lid (hadn't read the logs about it needing a replacement container), so it still needs some repair [B)].
Took the lonesome GC. LNSL.
Thanks Zytheran for showing us this part of the coastline [^].

Tide - Low. Check. Freddo and Astro had been here before. They knew tricks http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=e501dde8-d708-41cb-9490-8ddc07c73f27 . One of the tricks they knew was the "easy" path to get close to GZ. I reckon that track was 4.5 star terrain at some points, based on the consequences if you slipped. So I just focussed on the track ahead, on not putting a foot wrong, and trying not to think about what had happened to TWDG.

We made it to the beach, and then wondered where the cache would be. I had the original solution, which put me on the beach. Freddo had the new solution, which put him somewhere that gave me the shivers just watching him. 4.5 star terrain again. Fortunately Freddo realised he had the hint from geochecker, and up we looked. That's not so bad we said. But we soon changed our minds as we inched our way there. I had the coords about 20m out, but there was a lot of rock blocking the signal.

Great location, and very secluded until a boat appeared off the beach, and guys started diving from it. We wondered what they were up to, and they probably wondered the same...

TNLN - Thanks Zytheran!

The tide is low but I'm holding on
I'm gonna be your number one
I'm not the kind of geocacher who gives up just like that
Oh, no

It's not the things you do that tease and wound me bad
But it's the way you do the things you do to me

I'm not the kind of geocacher who gives up just like that
Oh, no

The tide when we approached GZ was officially 0.1m. Nice and dry. No wet feet this time. Wow this is a scary place. My GPSr says go over there. Aggh. I don't want to go there. That is nasty terrain. I got to within 5m of the possible location but it was too scary to go the next 5m. And live. Now you know you are doing a Zee cache.

Damn it should not be this hard. Then we read the cache notes and realised that the congratulations message also tells you where the cache is located. The calculated coords are only a starting position and should not be considered to be the final location. Now you know you are doing a Zee cache.

So we headed just up there and damn that is hard terrain on the scree slope. Not as scary as the location I had visited but worth every star. Now you know you are doing a Zee cache.

Cache found and logged. The lid has disintegrated and the cache needs replacing. There was a muggle find on 8/8/11. A family of spiders has moved into the cache. Now you know you are doing a Zee cache.

On the way down the scree slope I slipped and put my hand on a thorn bush. Drilled a hole in my finger. There was blood. Now you know you are doing a Zee cache.

Second bite at the cherry. This time the glass was less than half full. So we hopped to it right on super duper low tide (see app pic). Heed the warning players. (see pic last log and compare if you are planning this).

The approach being well rehearsed was appreciated by the Dragon man. Blood was lost finding this path.

We arrived at GZ with little more than a splash from the puddles. Then the fun began.

I could not look at the frog as he defied gravity on the ledge. I'm glad G forces did not kick in. Well below him were the signs of the numerous bovine and skippys that had taken the final leap of faith. Let's just say that the ants were feasting on broken heads of femur.

Then some geosense kicked in. Surely it's not there. So we checked there out. All 3 of us made it there on all 4's.

The container was 90% all good. perhaps the next person can bring a freshy. No no no Zee, no need for you to go back anywhere near here. Let someone else have the joy. Big Grin

It really is a beautiful spot when the tide is in or out. So if you are in the area, checkout this lovely spot. IF you don't make it to GZ, post a photo anyway.

Clear skies!!

After trying this cache unsuccessfully last October, we came back with the puddleboys today armed with the answer to the puzzle.

Glad it was it low tide, because you definitely can't make it otherwise unless you want to abseil down. A calf tried and failed - the carcass was certainly very smelly.

Well... persistence finally payed off. This was my 3rd visit to find this one and with Sneaky Seeker, we walked across the hills, rocks and rockpools and found it. Yes, it was an easy find, especially when you have done your homework twice before AND you have your big bro to climb up the schale!! Beautiful day, yachts in the bay, water crystal clear and it wasnt too hot either ...... perfect.

SLTN.... thank you Zytheran, delightful spot... and what a workout!

Nice easy find on a nice sunny day. I grew up around here so I know all the hills , gully's, rocks and creeks.

Went for a wander at a lowish tide today and made it to the cache.
Sat lock is terrible at GZ even with a good GPSr however coords have been revised and should be much closer now.
If you can get sat lock you are not far enough up the gully. Twisted
Note that puzzle has been revised too.

Another day, another DNF...
We arrived in the car park at 10am, an hour before low tide and this time the walk was much easier, although still a lot of rock hopping required. Mrs Indaweeds and the kids only made it to the end of the sand, so I continued the trek to GZ by myself.
The GPS was useless at GZ, so I spent about 20 minutes clambering up and down the crumbly cliffs but eventually had to admit defeat and return before the kids got too upset (it was REALLY windy, and the beach wasn't anywhere near as much fun as I'd promised them!)
I'll be back another day without the wife and kids for a longer search...
Thanks Z.

For those watching this cache , I will be zipping down to check the coords tonight, Monday.
Should be at the carpark around 7pm.
As it is a crazy HIGH tide (2.3m) tonight at 8:12pm this will an an "interesting" walk.

..oh great , theres also a coastal wind warning and it looks like a 2m swell.

All welcome..

Hitched a ride down with Zytheran and we (Indaweeds also came along) confirmed this cache is best done at or around low tide. Certainly not right AT high tide! We got most of the way there down low...but then vertical sea bluffs stopped our progress. Tried from up high too...but living to cache another day made more sense than the huge risk it would take on the steep and loose slopes above. Despite all our efforts we used good judgment and bailed. Bummer too...because we had the cache in sight...just couldn't find a safe way to it.

However...without a doubt...it was a good time with Zytheran and Indaweeds.

I'll happily take a DNF on this!
I solved the puzzle when it was first published, but never got down this way. I thought I'd take up Zytheran's offer of a guided tour of the cache site tonight even though it went against his own recommendations of not doing so at high tide. His comments as we arrived in the carpark to see waves lapping at the rocks did not bode well for the journey ahead, but as we'd driven this far we had to give it a go.
We started by trying the low road, but with no beach to be found and not even any rocks to hop that idea was soon shelved.
So we backtrack a bit and head up to the high road...and a mighty high road it is!
We arrived at a point WAY above the cache location and I knew straight away I wasn't going any further...I know my limits.
Zytheran and Birddroppings' limits are apparently higher that mine however, so they headed off down the cliff to try to find a way to the cache from above. This approach was also unsuccessful so we reluctantly headed back to the car just as the sun disappeared below the horizon.
Despite the DNF it was still a most enjoyable walk, and I shall return...next time definitely at low tide!
It was a pleasure to meet Zytheran and Birddroppings...thanks for the adventure!

OMG, that was not the beach I left last time here! As soon as I stepped out the car that last coastal bluff came to mind...how vertical was it and how much water would come up to it? The beach rapidly ran out and we headed high, then down low and along the cliff face 10m above the water until a chasm blocked our progress just before the final bluff. Then up to the top, a long, long way above the waves and spotted a possible way down. I'd say we got half way down when the crumbly rock simply became too dangerous without ropes as large chunks of it disappeared down and seaward. We seriously needed some black jugs rock, not the crumbly crud supplied. I think this is the first cache to physically beat me but even Z has his limits. From what I can tell the cache is much further up the gully than people have been looking. Still, it was a great evening and discovered some goat tracks I didn't know were there.

My one chance to find this puzzle cache...and I blew it. I flew over 8000 mi one way to do this. I got here right about low tide and the walk along the bottom was easy except for the irregular rocks. Still...this is my kind of cache hike! Loved getting to the GZ zone. Once there I flopped on finding the cache. GZ was in a place that regularly gets inundated so I don't know what to make of it. I know my coords were correct...Z said they were. GPS was a little loopy while there giving me two GZ's about 45 ft away. Still spent a good hour there and watched the tide get ever closer to my exit track. Finally gave up and hoped back to the jetty dejected.

After a day in Victor Harbor.. we (NormyCrew & Sneaky Seeker) headed back to Second Valley (our vacation homeland since the 50's). Over the hills and down the dales... til we reached our destination bay.... and do you think we could find it? NO. I wasnt leaving til we did, and after we had turned over every rock, looked under every plant... I decided that I needed a beer!! I NEED HELP... Sad I am going to check my coords with Zyg and make sure they were right before I hopefully find it on the trifecta run.

Well... for a couple of geocachers that thought they had the final coords right... I dont think we did. Walked all the way there to where we thought but to no avail. Anyway, Sneaky Seeker, was staying at Rapid Bay with the fam for the night, so after we got back, we had a look and realised that me, 'NormyCrew' had got one of the numbers wrong... "but not too wrong"... so decided we would try again the following day.... tomorrow actually. Off to bed for a good night sleep and a find.....!

Another interesting expedition! Set off early with The Penny Drops and Jimmy01 to catch the tide and beat the heat. Once in the area we decided to go for a high road approach to get a feel for what we where up against. While the views are highly recommended (including the beautiful blue green sea and dolphins just off shore), it dented our confidence. Definitely a 5 star approach. We retraced our steps a little way and came in along the low road. It was great to be walking where grass seeds don't grow! And compared to the climb up, walking on rocks was level! The cache was located without any difficulty, except for some slipping and sliding. Uni's photo did help. We left with a sense of relief and achievement. A great start to the day. And another Z cache under our belts. Thanks Z

Great day fantastic all around, thanks Pikapene & Jimmy 01
As per Greg we took the high road and followed the needle about 30m down the slope towards the water and the cache.
I stopped about 20m along as my legs were starting to get the wobbles, James and Greg were still keen to move downward until the cliff face dropped completely away.
Phew! we have to go back, what a shame. I am so glad to have spent the time up here the view is obviously worth the trek up the skinny track.

Walked back down to sea level and moved along toward the GZ. This was terrific, way to go Z
TNSL - L Penny & snapped a couple photos...Awesome thanks again.

The News article below refers to a shark attack about a kilometre from this cache . Please be careful if swimming in the waters near the cache.
It's remote, there will be lots of pretty fish and lots of shark.

A man been bitten several times by a shark at Wirrina Cove this morning will have surgery on an ankle wound.
The man, aged in his mid-20s, was snorkelling off the Fleurieu Peninsula beach when he was bitten about 10.30am.
He was able to escape the shark and make his way to shore after the attack.
He has bite wounds on his left leg and left hand.
The man is in a stable condition and he will undergo surgery at Flinders Medical Centre.
He was treated on scene by an off-duty paramedic and Ocean Rescue crews.
Other snorkellers were not deterred by the attack, with several continuing their activities in the same area the man was attacked.
Locals in Normanville said numerous sharks had been sighted in the area over recent weeks.

Found at 15:45.
An interesting expedition. We had intended to get down here early, but a very late start to the day, and then picked up our friend Yessi. I was a bit worried when I leared on the way down that Yessi had never learnt to swim, and that we were going to be there after low tide. It turned out this was not a problem, but Yessi's less than confident ability on rocks and steep slopes did slow us down. However, we eventually made it to the correct bay. The ladies paddled and explored the rock pools, and with the occasional pointer from Olga below with the GPS I clambered up every precipice for what seemed like an hour, though I think I was doing some 4.9 terrain climbing rather than 4.5. Whilst I was up on the hillside we saw a pair of dolphins swim past. Eventually I claimed defeat, and went down to the water. I even took out my phone to get a hint from Z, but there was no signal. However, standing there I looked back and realised where the cache would be, raced over, and there it was! Signed the log, and saw the girls had gone for a swim, so took another opportunity for a GA0377. What more could you ask for - a challenging cache, perfect weather, and swimming naked with two women Smile (except maybe a first-to-find as well)? The walk back seemed to be a lot quicker, so we went to the other side of the jetty, and was surprised to see the old boat sheds have been removed. Note that even though we got back to the jetty some 4 hours after low tide, we had no problems.
Thanks Z for a great afternoon.

A quick phonecall to O'Cholio late on Thurs night confirmed we would attempt FTF in the morning, based on the tides and difficulty. Upon arrival at the carpark our hopes were fading as the car next to us had a GPS on the dash. A mad scramble and no-one else in sight had our confidence growing. Finally after much searching and thinking " Where would Z put it ", O'Cholio called "Found It.....and it's a virgin". We signed the log and paused to reflect....and rest, before heading back.

As for the tides, we actually attempted a few hours before dead low tide, and had no issues.

Thanks Z for the cache. This was the first Z cache FTF for each of us. CoolCoolCoolCool

Big GrinBig GrinBig Grin FTF Big GrinBig GrinBig Grin

Ahhh, what an odyssey this was! It was JadedOptimist's idea to go south for this one and not having got FTF on a Zee cache before, Mr O was only too keen to accept! Timed it so the tide was still going out as we ventured forth. A 4WD parked next to us was cause for concern, with a Nuvi on the windscreen and a CFS sticker on the back, but with nobody in sight as we approached, we knew it was ours Big Grin A protracted search with appalling satlock eventually had us wondering "why the 4.5 stars terrain?" Mr O found out why! A lovely spot on a nice day, all that water looked (almost) good enough to drink, or maybe go for a swim in, afterwards. TFTC Z.

Is 0.47m low enough, or do I need to take a long lunch break tomorrow? Smile
