Logs
Went on a big adventure with Wafflekitties and geo pups, had a blast thanks for the memories! TFTC.
Not sure if I'm allowed to log this still especially as I'm a bit late with logging all my Nelson caches.. to be honest, I don't remember most of them but I do remember this one! It was a beautiful day and we liked the sound of a gorsey track to get a cache that hadn't been found in over a year as we have had good luck with similar adventures in the past. It wasn't that bad (not compared to the blackberry bush bash we done once), got to GZ quick enough and had no troubles finding the cache. Dogs had a blast too. TFTC!
Found while on a winter holiday with LCBuilder and our two geodogs. We spent 3 weeks travelling down the east coast and then up the west coast, setting our tent up at a different campsite each night. We didn't have any real plan, just went where the caches took us we saw a lot of awesome sights and will definitely have to come back one day as 3 weeks isn't really that long!
Finally made it to Sunny Nelson, definitely one of my favourite places.

The track really wasn't that nasty when I placed the cache! Honestly... Would I lie to you?
Thanks go to sherpas Troodles and Streetwalker for ensuring the path to the summit was still passable and there was a cache still to be found at the summit, although it would have taken a rather psychopathic muggle to have made off with this one!
For me there were a couple of possible hiding places. The cache was found in the second place I looked and I *know* I looked there before, obviously didn't ferret around far enough.
I was very happy to have found this one this time around so I know I need not ever come here again! Worth it for the views though!
Thanks

#9170. We'd thought about looking for this one last weekend, but had more of a work out than expected on the Grampians, and didn't end up getting here. We had taken the precaution of putting loppers in the boot, and as they were still there we thought we'd stop by for a go at this cache on our way past today. It turned out that most of the track had gorse issues, and attacking the gorse with the loppers was just going to take forever. With gritted teeth, it wasn't too bad brushing past the gorse. Blackberry canes across the track were much nastier, so most of them did get loppered. Quick find (and good views) once we got to GZ. TFTC.
The mission today was to find 11 caches before our assault on Cross Words this evening which I wanted as my 9,000th find. We popped out to Rabbit and Rough Islands this morning as there were exactly 11 unfound caches on the western side (not counting a puzzle cache which we know has gone missing).
Unfortunately we DNFed one of the newly published caches, so decided to find a cache en route to Cross Words to make up the numbers. This was chosen as it was one that I probably wouldn't be attempting before or after work to maintain my streak.
Not sure why I didn't put trousers on instead of shorts but did wear a jersey for protection. The gorse wasn't too bad as it just prickled, but the blackberry was another story as it hung on and ripped the skin. My legs are now covered in multiple scratches which stung a bit on our later mission.
Cache was a quick find - just one spot it could be really. Admired the views, drew breath, then back down hill for some more torture. Feel tempted to add a "Needs maintenance" log just for the hell of it , but container and contents were in good condition. TFTC (I think). Find #8999.

Not one for the kids this! Encouraged by a couple of fairly recent finds, I thought I'd give this a go on the way to work this morning. Needless to say, there weren't many people on the path and I did have the top of the hill to myself, but gorse, long grass & barbed wire conspired against me. Was pretty certain I was searching in the right location but nothing found for me today.
Back down the hill to tend to my lacerated legs!

The word "gorse" has had me avoiding this one for ages and its one of a very small number of traditional's in Nelson that dont require too much energy. I needed a break from staring at the computer screen so asked Nanzie if she felt like a short walk through some gorse for a cache she thought it was great idea which suited me as these days when we cache together I seem to be the chauffeur taking her to caches I've already been to and I didnt want to have to go back again if the gorse was as bad as it sounds. It wasnt really that bad as it looked like the track had been used recently sure enough the log was signed yesterday although I see it hasnt been logged yet. A quick find and enjoyed the view before heading back down again. TFTC

Hi BigglesNZ thanks for this cache. It was certainly a bit of a mission getting through the gorse but we got there in the end with the young fella on my shoulders. Not sure if anyone maintains this track but will soon be impassable. Thanks again and the views were well worth the climb. TFTC
We only got half way up the track before we were defeated by new-seasons gorse growth. Will attempt later this week with long pants and long sleeves. Might take the hedge shears too!
I've had it confirmed by a non-caching friend that lives nearby and is aware of this cache that it is still in place.
aww we looked really hard too, will have to try again. thinking it may be removed? the gorse was so worth the gorgeous view
Took geodog Fozzie for a walk up to the cache and replaced the log book. All good to go again now.
Well that was a very gorse covered track but worth it g for the views. Easy cache find at the top and got the first log for 2013. TFTC
This one's been on the radar before, in fact I drove up here in the dark one time. - - - Probably just as well I didn't chase it then, in my city clobber. - A very pleasant walk up here this morning - - - if somewhat prickly!!!! (Why must people let gorse grow - - -there should be a law against it!!!!) - - - Yep. Amazing views, though I didn't hang about for too long this morning. TFTC
Knew there was a cache up here and while out on a walk had a brief look in the general vicinity with no luck. Read up on it when I got home and decided to go have another try the next day. What do you know, first place i look - there it is! Looked here yesterday but missed it. Great evening views although it was raining a little. Thanks!!
Decided to have a bash at this one just before sunset to take in the twilight views. Stunning!!! Had to do some rummaging around in the long grass to find the cache but got there in the end. Nice hide. My poor little geopooch wasn't too happy about the gorse though!!
Bit of searching, as this one has not be found in a while and the grass is quite high. The gorse did not cause too many problems. TFTC
Good fun! Loved this one. Although the gorse looks set to one day turn this from a T2.5 to a T4..... TFTC
After dropping family off at the airport we treated ourselves to afew caches before heading home - finally headed up to this one after a couple of times when we said " we didnt do High Views oh well next time " well this was next time and we headed up here late afternoon - great views over Nelson and Stretch0 even got some photos - that only makes about 400 photos over the last week thanks for the views and the cache
Worked our way up here finally and got our chance to grab this cache before this area to goes to the developers. Great site and managed to grab a few pictures after signing the cache . TFTC
Found a break in the rain to go find this one. I survived the gorse thanks to my wellies. Zack the geomutt didn't enjoy it so much.
Another enjoyable long day hunting for some geocaches. Found cache pretty quickly (first finder this year). Track getting fairly narrow! SL Left TB TFTC
There was a nice wee track cleared up the hill for me to climb so no problem with the gorse. GPS reading was way off today but found cache after widening the search area. TNLN TFTC
View still great, gorse still prickly and the cache is still there. Went just coz i could. Hill didn't seem so steep this time on the bike.
As noted by dafran cache had been muggled and was missing. A smaller replacement cache has now been put back at same spot as before.
Found Info on geocaching, small red car, yellow marble, chewed on eraser, and bits in gorse and possible hide site, no sign of anything else.Photo attached.
Why does this happen to me! would love to log it as a find. PS Gorse not getting any better.

Found with Kwaka40.
Loved the views up here. Took the downhill MTB track back out to avoid the gorse. Not for the faint hearted!

Awesome views but the gorse is getting a bit thick.

Cool enough this morning for jeans so decided to stop by on the way to town to maintain one of our caches. It took a few minutes to find the way up but after that no worries. A very nice day for enjoying the views. TFTC.
4173 High Views indeed….. were ample reward after we forged our way through the prickly grinkle grass. TFTC
It's a case of "take your own weedeater" for this one - or at least long pants. The gorse is getting pretty thick along the access track. Lovely views from GZ though, and a road we've not been up before. Took Jetsetter TB. Thanks, Jackie and Grant and dog.
Short walking track very overgrown with Gorse. A quick find when Mr NAVFAM was nominated to loose blood by the family. Although Mr NAVFAM maintains he was the only one tough enough to crash through! We let him believe that! Amazing how the houses have mushroomed in the area. TFTC.

3162. High and vast view indeed! - Not quite so friendly getting there though!
Left the Jetsetter TB to admire the views before taking off again!
Thanks

Went for a walk on the wild side. Long trousers about to become essential. Neat spot at the top. Some great views over the back to give one a different perspective. The developers march continues.

Heeding previous logs, this cache had been removed from the pre-Xmas family caching list. But then, on the eve of going North to hunt the pristine caching grounds of the North Island, we found our count on 1099. "Hmmm. Wouldn't it be nice to start counting at 1101 tomorrow", we thought. One more then. So if Mr B had any brains, he would have put on a pair pf pants, or even socks, so he's sitting here with his legs itching. So! This is #1100, and the last South Island cache for 2009. Thanks Adam, and everyone else involved in this obsession of ours - have a great and safe Christmas and New Year, and see you all when we get back in a while.
EDIT: due to a Team Night Rider call-out, this wasn't the last South Island cache after all. Whoops!

found easily enough but for those with small children may find it a little too much gorse at the moment. Rosie the canine was not too happy about the prickles!
A lovely evening and a nice spot. Just one hill over from our own place. Can almost see cache site from home.

Slightly prickly walk up the hill, but nice views from here. No sign of the geocoin that's meant to be in the cache - the Team Butternut Laptop GC - but we left another coin anyway. Hopefully whoever took the coin just hasn't logged it out yet, although there were no other logs in the log book )
Third cache found today being our first outing. As usual after I say "it should be round here", my partner says "here it is".
Great view from up here.

Sun came out just as we walked up to GZ. Appropriate name for the cache but houses are certainly marching up the hill. Took coin and TB Left Coin TFTC
Nice One!!!!!!!!! Well and truly a great view. Co-ordinates were spot on, so an easy find with the Grandson Bryn. GZ has huge potential if a public reserve and recreational area could be develped in the future. Got to be an optimist! Well done. Left TB. Thanks
last for the day. It was great to have an afternoon caching back in Nelson after a long break. Swapped TBs. TFTC #904
quick visit to airport, so do a cache on the way home. should have taken printout for the near by one! Have wondered about this track for a while, so after signing log, went for a walk down the MTB track. Parts of that are beyond me! A jump further down is broken collarbone material! Cheers
Our second ever FTF 1919hrs .. Just finished doing the dishes and getting the junior Beansos ready for bed when this one popped up. So into the cachemobile, complete with kids in pyjamas, and off to the GZ just 1.9 K's as the crow flies from Beanso Base ... a quick scramble and couple of scratches, and bingo Miss Beanso had the cache in hand .... But what awesome evening views !!! TFTC
Nocturnal find for me and the dog. Bumped into cache owner coming back down the hill! Good one, thanks.
Need to get off the couch quicker if I want to stack up some FTF's. Great view btw.
