Unfortunately it's time for us to archive this one, it's had a good life and family life doesn't afford us the opportunity to upkeep a lot of our older caches anymore.
Even having an AI specialist with me didn’t help. She found it was barren. May need looking in to!
Found - Mrs McMike2012 & I now live full-time in our caravan & travel the country visiting places we want to visit … we were parked up in Tuatapere & were visiting a couple of nearby locations … walked this track & picked up the caches … fascinating history in & around this area … somewhere in my memory, I can recollect my mother talking about previous generations of the family working in the area, either gold mining or logging trees … this cache goes well with the ones up on the ‘Longhilly Track’ … this was an easy find, log completed & successfully returned … pleased to add another 'smiley face' to the tally … TFTC ... TN:LN:SL ... #2,014 for us.

We are slowly heading back home after finishing the hump ridge track , picking up few caches on the way. It was an incredible three days of pure magic. Thoroughly enjoyed every bit of it.
Found the cache pretty quickly but I accidently banged my head on the iron rod sticking out.. So please be mindful about that. TFTC

Visiting the deep South and doing bit of a road trip in the week before Easter. Great scenery, generally pretty good weather and plenty of caches to find along the way!

#9051. After attending a hui at nearby Colac Bay we finished up at 5pm and so I had a few hours to spare before nightfall. The rain had only just eased back by the time I visited here. Had a look at the old machinery then checked for the cache. Found it in the second place searched. Signed the logbook and replaced the cache where found. Thanks kryshan for hiding it here.
23 January 2021 14:32 Number 9109. A quick find by Ethness whilst I turned the car around. TFTC!
Interesting history. Having a short trip from Invercargill to Christchurch with Infoferret finding lots of caches, in particular the TMGT caches for me.

Cache 459 Headed out to Orepuki and gemstone beach today for some caches and to get some rocks to make garden bugs so I decided to pick this one up on the way, nice quick easy find. The magnet isn’t holding on the cache anymore may need replaced other than that cache in good shape T4TC
A road maintenance guy was working very close and I thought I might have to give it a miss but some strategic parking blocked his view. Nice easy find. Thanks kryshan

Day 15 of my 2020 NZE (New Zealand Experience).
(My apologies for the delayed logging but I'm still in catch-up mode)
Seeing as I can't be in America right now, I'm touring around the South Island instead. During my time here I am aiming to find as many of the TMGT caches as I can (preferably all 41) and also as many Virtuals, Earthcaches and Letterbox Hybrids as possible, plus any Trads or others that will fill a hole in my D/T grid, my Jasmer grid, or else the last 3 remaining Hidden Dates on that grid.
I haven't been this far south since my very first holiday to NZ back in 1988, so this part of my tour is a chance to pay Southland a long overdue visit. And of course this is my first time here as a geocacher, so plenty of scope to find caches galore! Today's plan was to spend the morning in and around Invercargill before making my way over towards Monkey Island and then meandering my way up to hopefully get to Queenstown by nightfall. Having had a bit of damp weather over the last day or so, it was good to get the sun back today.
There was no other vehicles around as I pulled up close to GZ, so I was able to walk over to the old machinery and conduct my search without interruption. No problems finding this cache and there were no issues with the cache or the log, so I was able to complete the usual caching administration before the whole lot was replaced exactly as found.
Thanks for placing this cache.

Eighth day of a two week motorhome excursion, heading via the Coast to the lower South Island, picking up a few caches along the way – eight today. Meandering from Tuatapere to Invercargill today. Found this one reasonably quickly. Interesting history at this spot! #3361. TFTC.
Lots of new digging going on threw the old tailings just up the road. Casually spotted by local farmier. Ekkk. Got the big wave. Tftc

I started my great and unique round trip over the South Island in Christchurch.
My first major stopover was at Lake Tapeko - here I hiked up to Observation Mountain.
I then planned two days in Mount Cook NP with some unforgettable hikes. My big goal was the Mueller Hut - on a super strenuous hike I reached it.
I continued my journey over the lonely Danseys Pass to Dunedin.
Afterwards I drove along the Southern Scienic Route via Invercargill to Manapouri for some days. On this route I visited many sights and enjoyed the beautiful nature again and again.
I already booked a tour to the Doubtful Sound in advance - another highlight on my tour.
Afterwards I drove on to Queensown and Wanaka. From there I continued over the Haast Pass to the lonely Jackson Bay with storm and heavy rain. Afterwards I drove along the west coast always in pouring rain.
The rain stopped the whole west coast, but I had good rainwear with me. Only high up in Nelson the sun shone again.
Soon I reached the east coast again in Picton and Blenheim and the sun was shining again.
After a few days I travelled back to Christchurch via the beautiful town of Kaikoura.
At the end of my round trip I spent a few more days in Christchurch and its surroundings.
I visited many geological sites and found many caches on my round trip. In Rangiora I visited an event.
I travelled 3418 km and take home a lot of positive experiences.
Thanks to many beautiful caches I was also shown unique locations, historical sites and geological features.
I am overwhelmed by the fantastic and ever changing nature on the South Island of New Zealand - I will definitely come back.
Many thanks to all owners

Travelling around the South Island and finding many interesting caches along the way. Thanks to all the COs for placing the caches we visited. Cheers from OZ!
Traveling from Te Anau to Invercargill today and letting caches guide our way. Thank you to all the COs who have placed caches to enhance our enjoyment of geocaching. Greetings from Australia.
Interesting article of history. I am glad it's on display. Jude-E and I are on a geocaching trip to the deep south. Instead of driving down from Christchurch we decided to get a cheap flight down. Thanks kryshan for placing this geocache 7984 find for me.
Sadly there was no large event in New Zealand in 2019 but there are a few Mega events planned in Australia. New Zealand will have another large event in 2020 in Auckland.

Planning for the NZ Mega 2020 event is well underway. It will be held in Auckland over Labour Weekend, 23 to 26 October 2020. Thanks for hiding this geocache.

Day 2 of a 3 day caching venture with Nosynel. We have a few goals in mind, especially the TMGT caches and Bluff Hill. Started raining solidly as we got to Orepuke from Clifden and Tuatapere but braved the elements to find the cache. An interesting bit of history. Tftc.

Ten days off in a row for the price of two leave days, how fabulous! Packed up the whanau for an adventure and headed south. Our original plans were slightly thwarted by water, but we made the trip into an adventure tikitour with a few caches along the way. Signing the logs as Team Polak or TP for brevity. Great fun, thanks to all the CO’s for the entertainment!!
A quick and easy find. Cheers
Easter holidays, and a road trip to Milford Sound. Today we drove from Invercargill to Te Anau with a magic sunny and calm autumns day

On holiday in motorhome with our cat Coco, left her sleeping while we went out for day in Suzy to GC. Our last cache was at Monkey Island so decided to stay there. This was our first for the day. Love how our new hobbie is showing us new things and places. Thanks for this cache kryshan.
Having a weekend in Queenstown visiting some friends, so decided to make a bit more of the trip and transfer a rental car from Queenstown to Christchurch and go the long way along the Southern Coast of the South Island, mainly focusing on the Virtual caches down here, and anything else I head past.
Quick find as I went past, thanks for the cache.

Today we made a trip from Invercargill to Te Anau, visiting some new sightseeing locations and looking for caches there. On this trip we searched, found and logged a lot of caches, too. The weather was dry in the morning and got slightly snowier when we approached to Te Anau, but no sun at all.
Almost no muggels observed us as they had other things to do than observing harmless geocachers.
Thanks to kryshan for showing us this location and for the fun we had at Roundhill (Southland). The search we had here today didn't take too much time.
Greetings from Germany and hope to see you soon in the forest.

Many thanks to all the COs who helped make our geocaching holiday a great success
We left home early April and returned 21 May 2018. We toured from our home base up to a wedding in North Taranaki then carried on heading south right down through wellington and on down the west coast and back up via the eastern side of the alps some times going around in circles. Our aim was to get as many smiley faces on the puzzle caches that we had solved but of course stopping for many traditionals, multies and others as we went. some time we biked the bike trails or walked but mostly by campervan. we enjoyed the quite back country roads, many of them were metal but we just travelled along slowly going from cache to cache. Most caches were in good condition and I will remark if we thought it needs maintence etc.

Auch hier bin ich auf meiner Neuseelandrundreise lang gekommen und ich danke allen Owner für Ihre Mühe.
1:38:00 PM. Out sightseeing and caching while on holidays from Australia. Found cache on ground. Signed log. It wouldn't stick back on the pipe so hid on ground under pipe. Thanks kryshan for the cache.
Niece and nephew loved this one, took them a while to locate initially, but I think with a little more experience they'll be giving us a run for our money soon
A nice easy find that involved no walking, was still trying to catch my breath after walking into the Chinese miners dam. Kids enjoyed too.
Found with VikingNav today while exploring the area. Thanks for the fun cache! >^..^
While spending a few days in Invercargill, we decided to take a drive to see the area, and find a few caches along the way. We started our day with a drive to Bluff, finding the start/end of SH1 and some great views from the top of the hill. After the visit to Bluff, we headed west along the coast to get two virtuals, walk on a few beaches, and enjoy the day. Thanks to all the owners for the caches.
Just a very quick stop to find the cache before getting back on SH99. Found the cache immediately and learnt something about the purpose of the pipe there. TFTC kryshan!

Found with Econut. Interesting spot! The cache was exposed so we put it back in a better place.
Todays trip went from Clifden down south and ended at Curio Bay.
We found some special caches on the way and it made our trip a real sightseeing trip.
Back in "goldmine" area again.

Woke up in beautiful Wanaka on day two of my long, long weekend. Looks like it will be another beautiful day, which is such a change from the Manawatu - so nice to have the chance to dry out and not come home from a day's caching with soaking wet shoes and socks. And its nice to come across nice dry logs all day too - and not a brace or power pole hide all day - another miracle! The plan for today is to head towards Winton, gathering caches on the way of course! There's a challenge cache near home that I want to achieve on this trip, so I'm hoping to collect a lot of caches on different minutes.
Heading through Cromwell to head back into Queenstown and down to Clifden, Tuatapere before heading back up to Winton for the evening. I haven't been through this way before, even in pre-caching life. Loving the scenery.
This one took a little bit longer than it should have. I had a fair idea of where to look, but I couldn't get the right angle. Managed it in the end. TFTC and bringing me to a site with an interesting history. TFTC

Day 4 on our trip around the south of south NZ. Have left our geocaching buddies and are on our own till invercargill doing the scenic road. Hardest part was getting car door open in the wind. Small hands are an advantage and loving not having to worry about red back spiders. Not much left of the old Township. Tftc
