We ventured into this neck of the woods today with the grand kids, they stayed in the car with their mum while we ventured in, the oldest one 42 moths old was not too happy even though he had both legs in plaster.
Thanks for the placement and the smiley .

Managed to get the afternoon off work and on such a beautiful days headed out for some caching. Parked by the sign and wasn’t sure where to start walking. Later found a stile about 50m up the road. From there the track is well marked with pink ribbon. The track does not look like it gets much use. Once at GZ took a while to find the cache. Not sure the hint applied today as I found it on the ground. Great place to stretch the legs. Thanks for bringing us here and for the smiley.

#12,076. A good bush walk in the Kaikawaka Scenic Reserve in Rangiwahia, Manawatu District, Manawatu-Wanganui. The tracks and GZ were all quiet at the time of our visit. Relatively quick find, although it was at ground level rather than as suggested by the additional hints. The GPS coordinates were pretty spot on for us. The cache container was in good condition, all nice and dry inside. Took nothing, left nothing, signed log.

Replaced where found. We continued on the bush walk afterwards and completed the loop. Very nice bush.

Thanks for the placement, and for bringing us to this site, and …

Well F...me. I found it!
Like Marisa, I wandered up the wrong fenceline and found a spot where a tree had fallen across it. Fought my way up hill 'til I hit the ribboned track then descended to the small clearing with the huge tree where the search began.
Three years (1118 days) since the last find. About ready to give up having searched EVERY hint item. Then saw it (right next to where I'd dropped my pack) nowhere near said hint. GPS having settled down says coordinates are 17m out. I'd say someone has moved it in the past. Put it back where I found it. Walked out via the track - well marked with spray painted tags and ribbon. There's some beautiful huge old trees in here right alongside the track. The track is actually flat and in good condition. So pleased I made the trip.
I'll have to give it a FP but first I'll have to take back one I'd previously given elsewhere I so enjoyed this geocache. TFTC

I have been enjoying these hidden little walks, this one took a rather long time to just get to the track, after a few false starts trying to find where to get in, I picked a little hole and walked until we found a track, turns out we just took a short cut while using the ninja skills on the cobwebs, once on the track it doesn't seem well used but someone has tied string on the tracks as well to help, got to gz and started to hunt, we must have looked over it 2-3 times before spotting it got it and signed the log, and have lost my nice pen, not sure if it's where we signed or somewhere else. Thanks for bringing us here we even managed to get out the same we went in, such a pity more people don't visit these places.

This was always going to be a bit of a caching trip in the company once again of HKCB. Having though about it and done a fair bit of planning over the past couple of weeks this was a chance for a reasonable clean out of an area that we don't normally get to. So with families in mind, rather than setting out on the Friday evening we left home at 2am on the Saturday morning to make our way south before either the heat of the day or there was too much traffic on the road.

Some stats for the weekend
- Distance Traveled = 1457 kms
- Petrol = 3 x Fills
- Time Away from Home = 42 hours
- Straight Driving Time = 6 hours
- Sleep = 4 hours
- Caches Found = 250
- DNF's = 3

So after a straight forward drive down here this was the first that we located of what was going to be a very long day, and followed by another very long day.

While I apologize that these are 'copy & paste" logs, I would just like to say thank you to all the CO's that have have put out and maintained these caches for us out of 'non-locals' to find. It was a great weekend and we traveled though some amazing countryside.
A key learning from the weekend was that a Mazda CX5 is not designed to ford rivers.
So thank you for the placement, thank you for the cache.

On a weekend mission with Cats&Dragons, for a bit of a numbers run along the new trails around the Northern Manawatu area, and anything else along the way. As usual these types of trips mean maximizing caching time and minimizing sleep time. So with a 2am start time Saturday morning we left home and headed South, and not getting back home til 8.30pm Sunday night. Some numbers for the trip as I know we all like caching stats are:
* 1450km traveled.
* 286 caches found (192 on Saturday, 94 on Sunday) with only 3 DNF's
* 4 hours sleep
* With a 3 hour each way drive to the Caching area, so about 32 hours of caching in the 42 hours we were away at an average of nearly 9 caches per hour, this isn't including stopping for fuel and coffee!!!

So a huge thanks to all the CO's for the placements, and for the reason to see some more of our wonderful country, we saw some pretty amazing places. Sorry for the copy and paste logs. We signed the log books HKCD, or HKCBC&D.

Really enjoyed this small piece of bush. It's not often that we see a Fuschia forest, if at all around the Waikato, so it was a very nice change. Checked a couple of spots at GZ before finding the cache, took a few photos on the GPS but it was way to dark in the tree cover to get a good photo. Thanks for bringing us here, worth a fav point and I can't believe it's been nearly 2 years since this was last found.

Stayed overnight beside the hall so we could do these bushwalks in the morning. This must be one of the most obvious caches ever - no need for camo here. I'm guessing it does not get a lot of foot traffic but we enjoyed the circuit.

My main caching focus today was to find this cache and two others of angela&ian's to help me complete boxhill's 'The Lonely Cache Challenge (GC4JTJX)'. This one took me a while to find even with the hint.

Thanks for the challenging cache and for bringing me to this great piece of bush Angela & Ian, I'll be back with Mrs skindo at some stage.

Checked to make sure cache OK.

After a bit of a hike up to Rangiwahia Hut, this was the next cache we had a crack at ... Pretty chilly and damp in the primeval forest. The fuchsias were pretty spectacular ... have seen something similar (via geocacheing) but not anywhere near this scale.

TFTC!

I have a house guest from the USA, and John wants to see a bit of New Zealand. What better way than to intoduce him to geocaching via some rural caches? A beautifully sunny but cool day for a drive around the country. By the end of the day John was hooked and had created his login. Alas, he could not count today's caches as he didn't have a geonick yet to sign any logs.

Lovely bush walk which reminds John of Jurassic forest (he remembers Jurassic forest? He's older than I thought!) Wonderful fushias, but they are not in berry. Did you know fushia berries are edible? Tree fushia berries taste like grapes, domestic fushia are not quite as yummy, but should make great jam. Found the cache and carried on around the loop. The track was not well worn and badly marked our way around (anticlockwise), we lost the track numerous times - I recommend you go around clockwise. Fantastic tree with viral burls at the entrance to the reserve.

Giving you a favourite - I love bush walks!

I really enjoyed this one, the bush was quite different to anything else I have come across, a most unusual primeval looking forest. And great Fuschia trees too. Cache was quickly spotted on approach but the log book is very wet, I was only just able to sign it.

Many thanks for showing me such a great place.

I wasn't really expecting anything too interesting when I turned up to this site. However, I really enjoyed the walk with a lot of variety packed into what appeared to be a small area. TFTC.

The second reserve visited near Rangiwahia with the Manawatu Tramping and Skiing club Thursday trampers, and another team geocaching hunt. None of us had seen so many large native fuschias in one place like this before. Great to see the community work being put in to maintain these bush reserves. Thanks for bringing us here.

23-Sep-10
The second bush reserve with 21 trampers, including 5 keen geocachers, from the Manawatu Tramping and Skiing Club. With all of us looking we soon found the cache. Another interesting reserve. TFTC.

23-Sep-10
Found in the good company of Edvern, Chrissy, Possum & Cleo, and RichardHW. The track was certainly wet and slippery, but the reward was the largest and most fuschias Mr Geodatum had ever seen in one place! TFTC

Was surprized this was unclaimed after a couple of weeks so included in a trip to Ohakea.
Frustrated to find FTF had been claimed yesterday!(still be be logged obviously).
Ferns, moss etc really looking their best with recent rainfall.
Nice district to explore thanks.
