Today we went to the Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve. In addition to many animals such as turtles, koalas, kangaroos, bandicot and birds, we also found a few of the geocaches laid out. Thank you for putting the caches !This cache could also be found. Thank you very much.

Visiting from Virginia USA, caching on Black Mountain on a beautiful day. This place reminds me of the set from The Land of the Lost TV series. Neat!

28-Mar-24
I did a tour of the area with a group from GeoBash and a local ranger. We learned a lot as we found some caches along the way. After that, Joolay took me on my personal geocaching tour. Isn't she the best? This was a bit of a hike uphill but it was a cool spot, so it was worth it. Thank you for the smiley and the fun!The day:Today was day 1 of my time in Canberra for the GeoBash Mega and getting to spend time with my friends. Hooray! It all started with a an awesome tour and then Joolay was my tour guide to a lot of other cool caches. What a great way to start off my time here. And the added bonus is spending time with my FRIENDS!Many thanks to all the geocachers who placed and continue to maintain their geocaches for folks like me to find. I know it's not always easy, but know that I appreciate you.

Took an afternoon walk in Tidbinbilla on a (previously) rainy saturday, and was rewarded with a nearly empty park to geocache in!

"Hanging Rock, picnic anyone"?: Years ago, I DNF'd this one after a long search conducted while trying to avoid many muggles. This time, there was noone around and my GPS was spot on - I found it in moments. TFTC!

16-Mar-22
Found at 2.50pm. A lovely walk upto gz. You could feel the history in this rock shelter.

Today is International Earthcache day - the perfect day for my first ever visit to Tidbinbilla. This place is magical!! Whilst out this way GLISS! and I explored the geology, grabbed a few caches, made friends with many birds and lizards, and I swear saw a Quokka. Such a fun adventure Smile Can’t wait to come back and explore some more! Managed to get ourselves covered in ants whilst we were searching for this one. Thank goodness they weren’t too bitey! Thanks for the cache.

Nibletricecakes and I ventured out to Tidbinbilla for International Earthday and this was one of the caches we found. Nice to find an older cache. TFTC

Cache 7866 on 20 Jun 2021.

Out on a morning caching mission with Fox in Jox - a rewarding effort with 12 caches of four different types found, 400m of elevation made, lots of sweat, lots of exercise and good company!

First cache of the day which we found after collecting information for the earth cache, and a warm up for the main event. Amazing boulders here, can imagine the many stories that would have been passed on about them. Cache found quickly by Fox.

Thanks Agent Basil for the cache and the fun!

In Tidbinbilla with AngelG27 to collect a few caches, including a walk up the spur to the 'Throne'. Great morning for it.

What an awesome rock formation. Quite special. Cache in good condition. TFTC AB

Very iconic boulder, easy to imagine a few people congregating next to a fire, hunkering down on the day's hunt. Lovely location, easy find, still in good condition. TFTC

27-Feb-21
TFTC Smile Last minute trip out to TNR to clean up a few more caches out here, mostly on the MTB today. A bit warm but not many muggles about today. Lots of kangaroos though, resting in the shade.

Grateful thanks to CO for placing and maintaining the caches to entertain me on my journey.

Grabbed this one today while on a day exploring Tidbinbilla.
Impressive rock. You can see why this would be a significant site.

06-Nov-20
Lovely day for a wander around parts of Tidbinbilla that I haven't seen yet. Find #4. This is one of my favourite places in Tidbinbilla, TFTC

30-Aug-20
I had a nice walk up to this great spot with my family and my daughter took the honours in finding it. A previous comment about a fallen tree proved very useful. Thanks for the cache.

27-May-20
Gerriactive tracked this one down after I had left the track and dragged her through the bush!! Absolutely no need and all good. TFTC

27-May-20
This is a great place up here among the rocks and despite the fallen tree the cache was a quick find. TFTC Agent Basil.

17-May-20
A plan was hatched to go for a drive with DSD and Loci612 today to visit Tidbinbilla that had just been reopened. The weather was beautiful and there were a heap of cars out here, although we didn't come across many people while walking where we went.
We personally have not been in here since 2011 so we have heaps to find in here so no doubt we will be back.

While doing the EC here decided to search for this one as well. I had two previous finders with me but I ended up coming up with the goods while they were looking else where.

Thanks for the hide Agent Basil

After this morning's orienteering nearby. I took the opportunity to clear on some more Tidbinbilla caches. I'd previously DNF'd this one, so was keen to turn it into a smiley. I prepared myself for a long systematic search, and found it almost immediately. Phew. TFTC.

Maybe just didn't look hard enough.

**This Cache**

In all honesty, this is probably the last cache we were expecting to find today!
It hadn't been found in over 8 months, and TikvaNZ had a DNF on it which is very worrying considering he is the 2nd top finder in the ACT at the moment, and is quite a thorough searcher!

But of course, we had to give it a good hard crack and I also wanted to do the new Earthcache nearby!

We searched for quite some time, DSD gave up before I did but then I spotted one more spot that looked very promising, but was slightly hard to get to due to the said fallen tree ontop of GZ.

After making my way into a position I could reach it from, I soon uncovered the very well hidden cache and screamed of joy! Big Grin Wooohoo we had done it! Such a good feeling to have uncovered this beauty!

In saying that, it could probably still do with a visit from the CO as he might want to move it ever so slightly just so the grab is a bit easier like it is intended to be, and not amongst a fallen tree.

Thanks Agent Basil!

**The Day:**

Myself and DSD planned a huge day out to Tidbinbilla to find as many caches as we could! An early start leaving Canberra at 7am, grabbing some food along the way and walking out to the first cache to make a find at 8:30am.

We clocked up 40,000 steps, which was 30km of walking over 9 hours! We also managed to walk on parts of 11 out of the 20 trails within the nature reserve, and didn't have a single DNF which was quite amazing given the amount of unloved, and previous DNF's a couple of the caches had!

An awesome day was had, with perfect weather and lots of fun along the way!

29-Nov-18
Sad that I have not got this cache before now. My own earthcache is only 10 meters from it. This cache took us a long time to find as there has been a tree fall down on top of it. The GZ is a mess of broken branches. But the cache is 100% there.

The Day:

Loci612 and DSD planned a huge day out to Tidbinbilla to find as many caches as we could! An early start leaving Canberra at 7am, grabbing some food along the way and walking out to the first cache to make a find at 8:30am.

We clocked up over 40,000 steps, which was 30km of walking over 9 hours! We also managed to claim 6 years of un-love in total for the caches we found during the day. We also managed to do the whole or part of 11 out of the 20 trails within the Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve, and we didn't have a single DNF for the whole day, which was quite amazing given the amount of unloved, and previous DNF's a couple of the caches had!

An awesome day was had, with perfect weather and lots of fun along the way! Thanks to Loci612 and all the cache owners for the caches. I signed all the logbooks DSD or darksidedan or darkside depending on how much room there was to sign.

26-Aug-18
I enjoyed my first visit to Hanging Rock, but I had absolutely no luck with this cache - it may be the thick tree cover that left my GPS jumping all over the show, and one large tree has come crashing down recently and the whole place is covered in wood and leaves... I looked about but could find no site that obviously met the hint. I searched for about ten minutes before giving up.

I must try again another time - it's a lovely place for a walk anyhow. Smile

08-Jul-18
No luck today. I'm sure it is there, but a tree had fallen over with the top branches right at GZ making it difficult to search.

10-Mar-18
This rock would make excellent shelter in all but the fiercest of storms. I can see why it was such a popular convergence point.

10-Nov-17
Set off early this morning with geowife and geotoddler for our first experience in tidbinbilla nature reserve. We were not disappointed. Amazing! Even better was grabbing a few caches along the loop around and the more out of reach caches will prompt further return trips.

Amazing. Loved the loop walk here and enjoyed the reading of this place. Few photos, signing duties completed and off to the next one. Favourite point added. Thanks Agent Basil

10-Oct-17
Sunday 8 - 15 October - an overcast warm Spring afternoon the low 20s deciding to take a yearly pass into the Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve to explore the park extensively and find all the caches possible over the next 12 months. Walked a leisurely 5-6 kms over 4 hours enjoying the bush and everything it had to offer. This week we found 1 EarthCache, 1 multicache and 3 traditionals. Unfortunately we had 3 DNFs and additionally access through the high fenced-gated park to 'Basil's Bush Meander' is currently padlocked for maintenance so we were unable to get anywhere near it today.

Quick and easy find in this beautiful and somewhat majestic area. TFTC Agent_Basil.

Awesome little walk with the geokids. Nice and safe hide without disturbing nature. Found with LaurenKatelyn

21-Apr-17
Well worth the steps to the top, only a short walk and the boulders here are huge! Great area and with dty73 and the geokids lots of exploring was done. Great spot here, thanks for the cache Agent Basil glad we stopped in.

21-Apr-17
WOW! The boulders here are amazing! Aquilus1 and I brought the Geokids out (to tire them out) and this place was just the ticket before heading home. The path takes you right to the cache and the area is great to explore. The Geokids couldn't stop running, jumping and talking so much! They were silent the whole trip home though. Will definitely come back here some time to explore further. TFTC Agent Basil!!!

A day traversing Tidbinbilla. Up, down, more up, then down. 30kms and 40000+ steps. A great day! TNLNSL TFTC

31-Jul-16
Lovely spot even without any awe-inspiring views, the rock itself is more than enough. 6/7 for today, and another Pokemon card left for good measure. TFTC

07-Jul-16
Another lovely spot! Tftc Smile

31-Mar-16
My second birthday cache find. Half way up the hill a coach full of muggles arrived in the carpark. Changed gears in my legs and hightailed it up the hill. Thankfully it was a quick find. I had just tucked the cache back when the first of the muggles arrived! Beautiful spot here. Thanks Agent Basil

12-Mar-16
Beautiful spot and great to learn about the Aboriginal people of the area.

05-Mar-16
The first of four finds for the day. It was the last weekend that the Japanese exchanges were in Canberra so my friends and I decided to take them out to Tidbinbilla to check out some Aussie flora and fauna! We visited the koalas first and then headed over to the Hanging Rock walk to have a look around there. My GPS was taking a very long time to pick up a signal so I was worried I wouldn't be able to find this one.

As we arrived at the rock shelter, my GPS finally picked up a signal and said the cache was only 20m away! How could I resist! The GPS jumped all over the place at first but then it became obvious where the cache was. I headed over and found it in the first place I looked! Log signed by myself, Auskid and Gouldclan. Cache replaced just the way we found it. TFTC Agent Basil, it was fun climbing all over the rocks!

05-Mar-16
We were visiting Tidbinbilla with some visitors from Japan and came to see the hanging rock. Signal jumped around a bit at first but found in the end. TFTC Agent Basil!

05-Mar-16
I hanged rocks with my many friends like a movie!
TFTC!

20-Feb-16
Today was a picture perfect day for a bit of geocaching in Tidbinbilla. The nicest thing about this visit was that I ended up walking quite a few trails that I hadn't walked before, despite many visits out here - thank you geocaching!!

My second stopping point of the day was Hanging Rock. I've been here before, but this was the first since I started caching (not that I really needed an excuse to come to this fascinating and oh-so-easily-accessible spot). It was very quiet at Tidbinbilla today, perhaps due to the heat (although it wasn't that bad) and I made an easy and muggle-free find while enjoying the beauty of the granite. TFTC Smile

02-Jan-16
Nice place and had a nice view and enjoyed my walk, nice hide. Thanks Agent Basil

Found it today with smjbmel, becstar boodle and all the kidlings

09-May-15
Eerily similar to Hanging Rock actually, right down to the spooky mist floating around the walking track. The rock formation maybe not quite so similar Razz but I can see where it gets its name. Of course Loki decided this must be off track so made this harder than it needed to be navigating the flora on the way up. Until we rejoined the track. We were a bit concerned for the cache's safety given the evidence of recent fires through the area but you picked a great hiding spot and the cache is in excellent condition. Thanks Agent Basil Big Grin

07-Mar-15
We were making good progress around Tidbinbilla on this summery arvo and this was our next target. Tidbinbilla has no shortage or granite and this one had some fine specimens indeed ...that is one big rock up there! Enjoyed the loop path, the geology, and of course the cache. Spotted plenty of lizards and thankfully no snakes (last time we were out here Mr Stormcatcher almost stepped on a baby brown in a similar area). Now for a slightly longer walk....thanks for the cache Agent Basil.

25-Jan-15
Found with Boot 65 on Australia Day long weekend. A great little walk and well worth the stop. Fascinating to find such a wonderful landmark in our own backyard.

25-Jan-15
3855. An outing with Relish64 to TNR on a lovely summers day. Our next stop was this one. One very impressive rock!
Thanks AB for the cache and bringing us here.

12-Oct-14
Myself and SouthwellRabbit were out in tidbinbilla on secret scouting business (god damnit we sound like a cult!), this one was not TOO far from where we had a ceremony, so we went for a stroll and SouthwellRabbit came up with the goods.

I really like this one. Thanks for taking me to a bit of tidbinbilla that i never knew existed Smile

08-Oct-14
Found by a new cacher! Tftc!

23-Aug-14
Found on a Canberra Bushclub walk led by JohnnyBoyACT. What a fabulous day to head out to Tidbinbilla for some bushwalking and caching. We made our way up here after visiiting the Sanctuary. A short walk soon had us at gz and muggle Lisa made the find ! We then had to have a good look around the rock and be awed by its size and beauty. Walked around the loop and back to the cars. The muggles are getting tired and it is getting late - a couple more caches though please... Smile thanks again - great spot!

23-Aug-14
Is this geo-cheating or geo-smart? Assemble a couple of more advanced cachers, viz Kittykatch and Marmaduke Rothschild. Throw in several muggles, ranging from keen to interested. Set them running around the Tidbinbilla Valley floor and we come up with a bag of caches! I did actually find one myself. A Canberra Bushwalking Club 'Gentle Geocaching at Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve' on a mild day which promised Spring in a week. Trip report at http://www.johnevans.id.au/wp/?p=5121 . TFTC.

02-Jul-14
One quick last walk and geocache before it got too cold. Kids enjoyed climbing around the rocks

Thought I would do a few caches around Tidbinbilla before my annual entry pass expires. A few easy ones and a few medium / tough ones. Walked about 20 kilometres for the day. Need to return to finish a few more at a future date. TFTCs.

11-May-14
Easy find on mothers day with family. Tftc

21-Feb-14
Have long loved this part of Tidbinbilla ... the cache was a bonus on a stunning day out with friends. It gets a favourite because the atmosphere her is wonderful. TFTC

TFTC ! Nice find in a lovely part of the world.

20-Dec-13
Found it , a bit hard to find I have a good cache buddy today who made it look easy.

16-Nov-13
I was playing tour guide for my visiting family from Canada and of course Tidbinbilla was the first place I needed to take them. Our visit today was our second for the week and our goal was to spot a platypus and to find a couple caches (for the geocachers in the group). Both goals were accomplished and this was one of the caches I wanted to find. I had looked for this one with 2 kids back in January, (it was missing) and the hike was quick and easy. Today however, with the average age of 70, the walk was much slower. Smile I made a beeline for the GZ as I remembered where it was previously missing from last trip and found it straight away. It was fun to see a coin from the team 'eatmorchikin' as my relatives immediately knew the story behind that name. It's based on a beef commercial in the USA, with the cows telling people to eat more chicken. ANYWAY, we left the coin in the cache for the next finder to enjoy. Without the kids, and as I was the youngest in my group today, I filled the age gap and began rock hopping and climbing the magnificent boulders at this beautiful spot, while the seniors watched on. It's good to be young....ish! Wink
Thanks for the cache Agent Basil and thank you for another spectacular place to visit.

16-Nov-13
I found the walk a bit of a challenge - but worthwhile to see the rock and find the cache. GPS seemed to bounce around a fair bit but patience paid off for another grab. Thanks Agent Basil

22-Sep-13
A lovely walk around to see this rock and grab a cache. Miss E (3) romped along enjoying every minute of the walk and whenever she finds a cache all by herself the look on her face is priceless! TFTC..eatmorchikin & Stigglepot

01-Sep-13
A quick find by the Jr Cachehunters x3 on a stroll to hanging (sitting?) rock after a picnic lunch for Father's Day.

A wonderful day had by all out at Tidbinbilla.

TFTC.

29-Jun-13
We advanced to this area and up ahead could hear lots of shouting and jeering and noise coming from muggles. As we approached the site some muggles leaving the area told us not to journey behind the rock because a couple was "recently married". I marvelled at the size of the Indiana Jones style boulder but didn't want to stand under it too long just in case! TFTC.

29-Jun-13
What a lot of noisy people were up here when we headed in. We could hear multiple groups of very loud people, seeing a family group and some sort of backpacker type group on the way before we made it to the rock. What an impressive sight, can certainly see why people would gravitate here!

Once the muggles all disappeared we headed to the cache and before long shinydragon had it out for us to sign. Thanks for bringing us up here Agent Basil!

09-Jun-13
tftc! geocaching in Tidbinbilla today (only near Ring Road and Views area) so far so good.

25-Apr-13
Nice little spot thanks, lots of muggles on this short walk on a sunny public holiday but its amazing how you don't have to get too far off the path to get away from them, this cache just safely in that position.

14-Apr-13
Well this is attempt number 2 for this cache. I was too embarrassed to log a DNF back in October as I had my baby attached to my in the carrier and thought that I was just limited in my searching ability.

Anyway, today out with the entire Geo_ junkies clan we all made our way to Hanging Rock. It is very impressive.

The Cache was very quickly in hand. Log signed now off to number 3.

I think this cache makes number 14 on the Tidbinbilla Pathtag list. .... Getting close! Smile

TFTC AB!

03-Jan-13
We thought we had this one as the GPS was zeroing in on an area that looked like the GZ, but we searched thoroughly and didn't find it. Another amazing place to visit so we'll be back soon.

16-Dec-12
Couldn't find this one at all, even with the help of several Geokids! Lovely walk though...

Searched high and low to no avail.

Great day out in Tidbinbilla. TFTC Cool

02-Sep-12
Area is closed at the moment. Not accessible.

22-Jul-12
Well, I broke the rules here, but being that I go searching for people that get themselves stuck out here, I checked the path as I went to be sure it was safe. Plus I left the family on the good side in case my stupidity got the better of me. Anyway, found the cache, and will have to come back when it reopened. Thanks.

Hard core! Not bad if you are fit but I annoy. Great hide !

Great day for caching in the always spectacular Tidbinbilla. A quick find at GZ. Signed log: TNGD. TFTC!

Collecting a few caches in Tidbinbilla NR today. This was a fun short walk up to an impressive boulder, and a tricky find as GPS was making me go up and down and up and one shouldn't take the hint to narrowly more like the root of the tree these days. Thanks for another fun Tidbinbilla cache Agent Basil

A day out here at Tidbinbilla with day out with Batgirl & Co., MtnLioness and OneHippieChick chasing a5 caches so the ACT visitors could get their pathtag from Agent Basil. This cache had been found by the rest of the group but they kindly gave me a few minutes to chase this one down while they waited in the car park. Cheers and thanks for the cache!

Loved this location and yet again kicking ourselves for not taking a camera.
Doh.
Thanks for placing it.

02-Jan-12
Even though jusojara had this one already he joined Mr Roo and I for the walk to this cache. Really nice area, there was a small family group at the base having what was a foodless picnic??

Mr Roo found the cache quickly, so we did a lap around Hanging Rock before returning to the carpark.

Thanks again Agent Basil for another wonderful location and cache.

02-Jan-12
WOW!
What an amazing and HUGE rock!!!

Wonder how THAT got there?!!

Easy cache, GREAT location!!
Thanx for a very interesting find!!

02-Jan-12
another marvelous location and a very pleasant walk despite the hot day as it was mostly in shade and a nice bridge over the creek just added. only a short distance to the cache and we lost sight of the GZ and under the rock it sort put our directions off as BatGirl started searching the wrong rock but the trusty Dakota was true and lead us to the GZ, then BatGirl got slightly disorientated with our Exit but after soon was back on track to the next cache, this was #10

02-Jan-12
Another beautiful spot in this amazing area. A lovely (slightly steep in parts) walk up to the top geomum and even geogranma enjoyed this one. As with mtrax, the trusty Dakota 20 took us to the right spot straight up.
This was number 10 for today and by now MtnLioness and I are hot, tired and grubby but we will be back next weekend to do some more caching in this wonderful Nature Park.

Nice cool spot on a hot day.

02-Jan-12
A bit of a wander up the path again. Nice easy trails to follow even if the loop at the top did disorient me....I shall claim that I was tired by this point.

02-Jan-12
Have been wanting to do this one for a while. Teamed up today with jusojara and cadda76 to get it. Got to gz and made a quick find. Lovely rock TFTC

Unsuccessful with this one previously but a quick find today. Not sure how we missed it last time around. TFTC
