Drove through the pass with friends great road to explore through ticking off a few caches on the way thanks.
After a big 3 days of 4x4 we decided on this route home. Planned to do some of Hakataramea and Meyers Pass. The rain came in and we were soaked and cold by the time we got near Waimate. Got changed and had a meal then made our way home. This is the spot the rain got heavy and we got soaked from below our jackets. Visibilty getting low due to cloud but can imagine it is quite nice here. Thanks for this cache drawp.
#19355. Good to get to the top of the pass. Great views and a quick find. No snow to worry about today. TFTC.
It's Waitangi Day, and StreetWalkerNZ and I are heading home to Christchurch after a couple of days spent exploring the upper Waitaki area. We're taking the scenic route, of course, via Meyers Pass Rd and Waimate.
Some great views as we drove towards the top. A few of the gates were open which was good as I was the designated gate opener . TFTC.

For my personal challenge of working towards getting my calendar on GC.COM to be at least the same shade of green or darker I need to sign off at least 7 caches today. I won't grumble if I find one or two more. Today I decided to go a drive to the Hakataramea River and then onto Meyers Pass.
Another great back country road. It would have been a great view if the low cloud wasn't about. It was opportune to meet the only other vehicle at a gate and not on the narrow road.
Cheers for the cache.

Found with our 3 and 5 y.o. Thank you drawp for making us stop here. Lovely spot to watch the time fly by.
The (major road trip was about to begin) that was for the Oamaru Geofest trip in the company of HKCB and iammrwalker for a bit of a road trip across to the west coast, through Haast and in a roundabout way to Oamaru.
My trip stats were as follows: 617 caches (214 Puzzles), 3300kms, 500 litres of Petrol, 21 hours sleep, 100+hours caching time. THe weather was wonderful and apart from about a 6hour period on the sunday we had fine weather all the way and feel that we made a bit of a hole in the region.
Firstly thanks to all the CO's that put in the effort to to set up these caches and to all the CO's whose caches we did not find this trip, well we are already planning our next trip.
We worked hard at getting specific caches (especially the Geo Art around christchurch and hence our concentration on this area for the preliminary 24 hours. So after a couple of running repairs to the rental vehicle (fuses not working) we were off knowing that all ports could be charged and that sleep was for the weak.
Sorry about the copy and paste logs but that is what tends to happen with a number run of this size. Heading up throught he MacKenzie Basin to cross to Kurow on the way to Dansey's Pass before heading back and up to Oamaru

Came down this way from the North for the Oamaru Geofest, and decided to add a few more days to the weekend trip and turn it into a bit of a Mega mission, starting 5pm on Wednesday 18th and finishing 3pm Monday 23rd! Teaming up with Cats&Dragons for the first 24 hours then with Iammrwalker joining the team for the remainder.
Just a few of the stats for the trip were:
- 700 caches found, including 270+ puzzles (thanks to the Christchurch Geoart)
- 3300 km's driven, using over 500L of fuel $$$
- Just over 20 hours of sleep (about 4 per day on average), and about 100 hours of caching time.
Certainly a Mega Trip!
Day 4: With the lack of sleep starting to take a toll we finished Day 3 off early and got a few hours sleep before getting back to finding about 2am this morning. Todays mission was to find caches around Tekapo before heading South through the Mackenzine Country via Hakataramea Pass, and onto Dansey's pass before coming out on the coast and heading to Oamaru for the Geofest and caching around the area.
Sorry about the cut and past logs, but that seems to happen with cache runs of this size!

I found this Geocache on a Geocaching mega mission along with Cats&Dragons and HKCB. With only just over three and half thousand Geocache finds I was very much the over achiever in training. We were in the South Island to support the Oamaru Geofest event, hunt down some Jasmar and D/T harder to find Geocaches, lonely caches (those not found in more than 6 months), virtuals and try and meet some milestone numbers. We signed the logs HIC, an abbreviation of our respective Geocaching names, (H)KCB, (I)ammrwalker and (C)ats&dragons. A huge thanks to all the CO’s who placed and maintain the Geocaches we found.
I arrived in Christchurch late Thursday evening having left straight from work and was picked up by my intrepid companions in our four wheel drive rental to find they had already grabbed about 270 finds in the previous twenty four hours. I wonder if the rental company would have still let us have it had they known we would travel 3300km in it before returning it four days later? Our trip took us to Greymouth via Arthurs pass, Ngahere, down the west coast to Haast across to Hawea, Cromwell, Twizel, Aoraki Mt Cook, Tekapo, onto the east coast up to Oamaru and back up to Christchurch via Akaroa and countless diversions and small towns along the way. We slept in the car for the first two nights, grabbing some shut eye between cache finds, taking turns to drive. We rented a small place in Oamaru for the other two nights and appreciated a bed to sleep in and a hot shower. It was an amazing trip, in which I discovered the South Island has some of the most incredible scenery in the world.

Found while on a weekend leave pass with Karma Reprint, heading up and down the Waitaki Valley with a few bike rides and wanders on the way. The top! Tada, good road up to here, lets see how the other side goes. Cheers
Nice views down the Haka, and a quick find at the top. Cheers.
Off on a caching weekend with Kiwi Moose, to the Waitaki and slightly beyond. Great weather, great place to be, great company, and more than a few little plastic boxes.
Thanks to all of the CO's for the hides. Cheers.

Tiki tour Tuesday for me , still recovering from a recent caching spill a couple of weeks ago with a sore knee so good excuse to head out on the road for all those wayward caches you just don't get round to finding , headed north to the raiakia last weekend so today it was the waitaki's turn .couldn't have picked a nicer day.
nice road giving hadden paddon a run for his money could have done with a gate opener today .tftc

well what a mini adventure we had today, over the McKenzie pass, the Haka and finally over Meyers pass in the mini cooper, a bit bumpy but we all made it. Cheers for the cache. if this road was in the UK it would be under tarmacadam and easily accessible, however it was a bit too bumpy in the Mini, I will return on the bike
In Dec 2012 I drove through the Hakataramea Valley (via the McKenzie Pass) ; I saw The Organist at an event soon after and he recommended Meyer Pass as a good detour. Ever since then I've been keen to come this way - and today I had the time.
Great scenery - especially about 100m before GZ, to the West.
Another car actually passed by as i was parked near GZ - but that was the only other vehicle I saw on this road.
Thanks, drawp - this cache was really the impetus for me to drive this way and it was well worth it.

.. another quick and easy find. Beaut scenery. TFTC!.. collected Penelope the Pig!
Due to popular demand, the intrepid WGHS Jungle team left a TB here, clearly inspired by the amount of farmlife on the road! TFTC.
We took a german tourist up to look at the view, while parked at the top my children went looking for lizards but found a cache instead! Hope you like the dinosaurs my son left!
We enjoyed the day caching in this area
Tftfun
So many caches done to remember all, but got a kick out of all that we found (0ver 600 in 8 days)

Top of the Pass and a nice easy find. Very windy up here today. Were surprised to find it was found yesterday when all the others in the area haven't been found in months. Dead wallaby by the gate. Our first wild wallaby, pity it wasn't alive.
This has been a bit of a "don't mention it" for a while as I missed listing it when we did Meyers Pass earlier in the year. So tonight was the time to rectify the situation. Very windy so need to find a calm gully to boil the billy. Onward we go. TFTC
It's been a while since this one was logged - but we stopped on the way over the pass and yes this one's still here, and in good condition. TFTC
What a brilliant day! Enjoyed the trip and happy to find at least one cache on the long way. TFTC
Very foggy and cool up here today! Glad it was a quick find and back into the car! Cheers Gav [7480]
A few gates to open & close as the weather closed in. Bit foggy around GZ and the temp had dropped TFTC
worker had the gps so was keen for the drive....worth it too for the views. Farmers using the road but sweet drive.
An interesting road to drive over, to a very peaceful location. Like The-Organist we're glad we didn't meet anyone coming the opposite direction. TFTC
Great road - although I'd hate to meet opposing traffic on a corner! Great view. Right... Off into the cloud.
Glad to have found this after quite a long drive and opening a few gates. Nice and quiet so time to relax for a few minutes.
Thanks

I have always loved this road. It has a remote feel. I "Discovered it many years ago on our first wallaby shooting expedition. We thought it was the back of nowhere.
Found while taking the long way to Twizel.
Cheers and thanks,
