Great day for an adventure for a quick cache or two. Nice little drive to this one and was quickly discovered by geohubby.TFTC

31-Dec-23
We had a very good look around the general area the GPS was taking us to but we could not locate the cache. We didn't end up completing the rest of the series, due to a patrol was stuck on Robinson track and we ended up winching them out that took a bit of time

31-Jan-23
Due to unforeseen circumstances Mr Smokey Bear will no longer be a part of Team Smokey Bear and will continue his adventures as "SmokeyBearOG".

So I'm relogging all previous finds under my new account.
Unfortunately this log will not show the original logging date.

**Thanks to Team Crackers for this adventure, looking forward to many more.**

These ammo box caches are great, nice an easy track this time of year still need a 4wd though

we love a high-terrain treasure
so much so that when we felt ourselves losing our passion for this game, we set ourselves a challenge:
for the year, only find treasures of terrain three or more

often other treasure hunters seem to feel a little strange about this self-inflicted parameter
like we are doing this to prove a point
but we are not saying you should play like this
we will not play like this forever
it is just for the year
it is just to remind ourselves of what we want to get out of this game

so far, we have found about four hundred caches this year
another forty or so and it will be our most-finds-in-a-year record
for ten years of playing this game, that speaks to our enjoyment of this challenge and what it leads to

so
thanks for bringing us out here
thanks for the adventure
thanks for adding to the challenge

After two days of solid rain and grey skies, we were finally presented with some decent weather So I had to escape the house. I wished to go for a long walk in a nice area with no muggles.note: Bush bashing was not on the list. So after chatting to a GC friend who reassured me the 4×4 series could be done on foot and that the track although steep should not be muddy, my plan was set. The drive in wasn't bad I'm a Sunday driver on these stone roads so the bouncing Kangaroos had plenty of time to hop across in front of me. Their was plenty of room for me to park beside the road just Infront of the track. I deeted up grabbed my hiking poles and my backpack and headed off. To my suprise the whole track was fairly dry any muddy patches could be avoided, I was dam glad I brought my poles though as the whole track up to the half way point is fairly step but doable with a medium level of fitness. Cache number 1 approached I dove it but couldn't see much ..GPS was showing me the one area each time I came back out to the main track ..once again dove in...their wasn't much room to do the Geo circle dance but the Geo gods were looking after me today and as I turned, I spied metal you beauty. The clue was spot on but not so obvious when their is a lot of bush growth...did I mention that Bush bashing was not in today's agenda. Cache in great condition ...it's still got a few swaps in their.

Over the years, geocaching has taken me on many adventures, including interesting destinations all over my home continent of Australia and many overseas as well. It has also introduced me to a diverse group of like-minded caching tragics, many of whom I now call close friends.

Today, I was lucky enough to be out and about searching for caches, something I do on almost a daily basis. This was one cache that was targeted and found.

Sorry for the late and generic log, something I am notorious for. Thank you Team Crackersfor adding to the adventure that is geocaching.

08-Feb-19
Found with Geoturtle37, The Tritonz, beckNmonts and micaparamedic. We had been eyeing off these caches for some time, so when we received an invite to join a small but intrepid band for the day we were all over it. The CO was set to join us as well, but a postponement due to rain unfortunately threw a spanner in that plan. The rain stayed away this time around and a great time was had by all rumbling around the Bunyip area. We tackled all but one track in our vehicles, that one was deemed too risky by unanimous vote. There was a bit of slipping here and there, but only one winch recovery required and everyone stayed shiny side up so that is just part of the fun. Thanks Team Crackers for bringing us out here for a great day out. We look forward to hitting the trail and sharing a cold one over a tall tale down the track somewhere.

08-Feb-19
We had spotted these series quite some time ago but didn't feel that we had enough experience to attempt them on our own. So when we got an invite to join in with others, we were very pleased. Unfortunately, due to the weather, it was called off.
Then we were told that another date had been set so it was on again. We had been watching the weather, and although it didn't seem to bad, we weren't sure if it would be called off again. It wasn't, YAY. We met up with two other vehicles at a fuel stop, struggled our way through Friday afternoon traffic and road words and were soon on the road to adventure. It was a shame that the 4th vehicle couldn't make it (but I'm sure the CO has done these tracks more than once.)
There were some awesome views and great tracks. There was only one that was undriveable, (in everyone's opinion) although an alternate route was chosen for another cache. Considering that there had apparently been rain only a couple of days earlier, we were lucky with the tracks. We only found one of them to be a little slippery but no worries.
A winch was needed in one place but nothing major and no damage or harm done so really doesn't count.
I had a fantastic afternoon out so a huge thank you to our awesome travelling companions for the invite and another huge thanks to the CO's for placing these caches.
Really hope that we can get out to do some more.

08-Feb-19
In the company of beckNmonts, micaparamedic, Geoturtle37 and Papi4506 in 3 capable 4WD's we finally knocked off these 2 4x4 series with little mishap. Mr. Weatherman had predicted much rain but beckNmonts convinced us that he was wrong as all previous days predictions had failed to produce said 50mm of rain that was supposed to hit Melbourne in a big way. Taking her word for it and lets face it, not wanting to have to cancel once again, we met up at a local servo and then made our way in convoy to enjoy a wonderful adventure with great mates testing our skills in the Bunyip State Park. The small amount of rain that had been through here on the Wednesday made one track slippery in spots but we managed to avoid most of it and still claim the hides. Good hints made for easy finds and our team names were all added to the logbooks held captive in their ammo can prisons.
We deflated our tyres nearby before tackling Rocky Track and our first cache.
Thanks very much Team Crackers for the effort put into both series, for us and others to enjoy.

08-Feb-19
With rain forecast I was concerned that we would again, have to postpone our quest of these caches. However, I managed to convince people that there was not as much rain this way as the news was making out. So we met at the agreed time, minus just one of the parties... the co, of course! (I’m pretty sure they will know they were missing prior to reading my log). We managed to find all the caches, and didn’t have any car mishaps. A slight winching incident, but where there is no damage done, there is no issue, IMO! Thanks so much for placing this series Team Crackers, I had a great time finding the caches today.

First of four caches for dad and son on an 11km bike. Highlights were a wallaby sighting, and finding a Thomas story in this cache. TFTC and the adventure.

Well this morning started off well, Out with The HOUND wanting a few smilies and a decent hike.....
Well STUFF ME !! I want to know who puts cashes up in places like this, they need to be TOLD !
WOW, I’m usually good on the hills but with some training pack weight today and the BRUTAL way the hill started and just continued on was incredible.
If you are going to hike then be ready .
Not afraid to admit after 15 min walking I needed a breather as I was seeing stars.
Anyway hunter obliged and we slowed the pace a little and got to the first cache. Amazing spot but boy was I cursing Team Crackers

I had been looking at this series for a long time wondering whose 4wd vehicle I could borrow, or if I should just hike it. With my wife off on a long run, I had some time to hike it. Knowing Toolman was training for a long hike, I yelled out and he was in. Took us about 3.5 hours to hike the 11km to collect these 4 caches.

First find of hike at 8am and score 1 to Toolman.

Thanks for the cache Team Crackers

BUSH BASHIN.. Out and about with the kids in tow for a spot of bush bashin and a few cache finds for mum Smile Super excited.

I completed the 4x4-1 series a fair while ago and have been waiting to get back out here for this series, It did not disappoint. We approached this cache slowly, scratched the car up a fair bit and broke the arial. Its all part of the fun, even if its not your car, right?

Cache was found after a little hunt.
Thanks for placing this cache for us to find Smile

This is what caching is all about coming to locations like this, hiking up insanely steep tracks. No mint tins here, because it would be so inappropriate. Thanks for the adventure and the hike up.

**Thanks to Team Crackers for placing this cache.**

Today tackled the 4x4 series 1 & 2 and enjoyed the journey to this cache. We would not like to tackle this one in the wet, but no dramas reaching GZ today. We enjoyed this series challeging our Geo 4x4. Cache and contents are in good condition.

Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache for our enjoyment.

With time running out for the day I attempted one final hike to get to the final 4 4x4-2 caches. As it turned out I had to leave Hell's Gate for another day, but visited the 3 closest to Forest Rd. Now that evening was approaching I finally saw fellow humans for the first time all day, namely in 4WDs, so things became a bit less fun from a pedestrian's point of view. Razz This first one involved a fairly short hike and a relatively straightforward search. Thanks Team Crackers!

Ventured up this track to have a look on our 4wd day out after doing the series 1 round. Tftc.

Found 10:52:00 AM, whilst out with Muzza on our December caching expedition, to Bunyip State forest. A 4WD expedition this time, so the Wrangler could do what it does best Big Grin

TNLN, thanks Team Crackers (F=17447 H=129).

09-Dec-15
Out and about with Biggles Bear #1 in the 4WD, we decided to take advantage of its capabilities and headed for the Bunyip State Forest to do both 4x4 series there. On advice from the CO, we attempted the second series first, then the first series in reverse order, although things didn't go as planned. This was the first one attempted and apart from a bridge not being available and a detour required, it all seemed pretty straight forward getting there.

Thank goodness for the clue, because we would have spent a lot more time searching for it had we not resorted to it after a couple of fruitless minutes searching. (We could say that for almost all the caches). The area is well overgrown now, nothing like in the photos on the cache page. One down, 8 to go!

Thanks to Team Crackers for the cache.

Don't know how many times I've been up this track not knowing about caching , love this area thanx Crackers

19-Mar-15
After having some fun on series 1 we thought we would move on to the next series. The Goanna's are certainly big around here and there are plenty of Wallabies as well. Up the bumps we went until the GPSr said we were close and then out for a park and grab. Looks like this one had not been found for almost a year but is in good shape. We completed the signing duties and continued up to Well That Was Rough. Here things changed a bit as we got about half way up only to find the rear diff had not locked as we had felt it was a bit skidy on the way up and we got to a point where one front and one rear well was just about in the air so we could not climb up despite trying a few things. It was at this point we decided to head back down which in this cause meant reverse which we did somehow. TFTC.

Traveling through with rigger64 we took the opportunity to check all the caches were still in good nick.

24-Jul-13
Talked the muggle-son into going for a 4X4 drive out to the Bunyip State Park. We have been wanting to do these caches for a while now. We were a bit disapointed to find most of the forest tracks were closed for the winter. As it was a nice day for a walk thats what we did, Im not as fit as I thought I was, it was quite a climb to GZ. We found the cache in good condition, and signed the log book. We will have to come back in November to attempt the rest of the series.
Thank you Team Crackers for the challenge.

16-Jul-13
Had a magnificent day out in Bunyip Forrest. The main aim was to pick up a few of the 4X4 series (on foot) as well as explore some interesting features I had spotted from satellite imagery (as possible places to hide some new caches).

This was a great walk, but not one for the faint hearted. I really enjoyed the challenge and found the cache quickly. Thanks Team Crackers!

27-Apr-13
Negotiated the corner of the track into this series successfully and very quickly things looked like they were going to fun! The undergrowth has been busy regenerating here and it was hard to see Wal and the Chief from the road. Very quickly got a hoi and we tick that one off and prepare for the next installment of track. TFTC Team Crackers

Out for a bit of fun geocaching with Earthbound Chief and Co. We decided to head towards Bunyip State Forest and a bit of 4x4 excitement. After a bite to eat at the nearby picnic grounds it was back to the serious stuff!! Cache was easily located and we were soon back on the track. TFTC

The first of these 4x4 caches that was done today in the company of Team Crackers, Maccamob, Rebel Acts, Rabbitto, pprass, and Mr Coffee. Somehow this seemed much easier than I thought it was going to be?

13-Apr-13
In the company of Team Crackers, Maccamob, Rebel Acts, Rabbitto, pprass and Alansee we set off for this cache the first in the series for the day. We had been worked into a frenzy of 4x4 terror and the fear of the wrath of Hells Gate, Rough, Salvage etc made us put the SES, CFA, Army, Navy, Air Force, US Coast Guard, Texas Rangers, Canadian Mounties and a couple of Girl Guides on standby just in case.
After a long drive, 50 water crossings, ice, snow, blizzards, landslides, tornado's, hurricanes, floods, fires and 2oz of dust we arrived at the cache location.
The cache was found easily by Rebel Acts and we set off for more caches along the tracks of terror.
Our thanks to Team Crackers for the challenge
Regards
The "never stretch the truth" Coffee's

13-Apr-13
Found in the company of Alansee, maccamob, Mr. Coffee, Rabbitto, Pprass and Team Crackers, on a little 4WD adventure. The dozer sure made life easier. Thanks Spook for the cache and driving us around.

13-Apr-13
Found by Mary & David, in company with Team Crackers, Alansee, Rebel Acts, pprass, Rabbitto and The Coffees, at 0910. The first stop in this series as we start to climb. The track seemed in better shape than we'd feared. Rebel Acts plunged into the scrub and found the cache quickly. Amazing to see how the bush is recovering after the fires. Our thanks to Team Crackers.

13-Apr-13
Out for a days caching and some cache maintenance with Alansee, Maccamob, Pprass, Rabbitto, Rebel Acts and The Coffees. After they had found the cache we declared it safe and sound and right where it should have been, although quite a bit more over grown than when we hid it.

13-Apr-13
We found this cache today at 9:05am as the 2nd of 18 on our 4x4-2 Bunyip Tour in company of PPrass, Maccamob, Team Crackers, The Coffee Clan, Alansee and Rebel Acts. Our first cache proper on the 4x4-2 trail. Methinks that either the stories of the state of this track have been severely exagerated or the track has had a good grading since the last trip the COs made up this road. The regeneration from the bushfires is now well underway, especially for the undergrowth. Left a geocoin. Thanks from D & HA B-A.

13-Apr-13
Found at 9:08 AM GAFF5 in the company of Alansee, maccamob, Mr. Coffee, Rabbitto, Rebel Acts and Team Crackers.
As soon as we hit Rocky Track we could see that quite a bit of work had been done to the track recently and that it was in exceptional condition. This was both good and bad news as it meant that we were not going to have any difficulties like last time (read body damage), but on the other hand we were not going to experience any real adventure.
When we arrived at GZ, it was Rebel Acts who dived into the thick regrowth and pulled out the cache in no time.
Thanks Team Crackers.

28-Mar-13
Out on a motorbike ride for the first time in 18 months. Did this series in reverse since we were coming from the other direction and also heading back to where we parked the car and trailer.
This was the last for the day as we were nearly back to the car. The water runoff bumps they have put in this track are really steeper than most tracks, still easily accessible but you just have to go slow.
My muggle brother found this one while I was still mucking around with the GPS.
TFTC and my brother for stopping his motorbike ride to look for strange little boxes in the bush.

19-Mar-13
The track is in good shape at the moment, first for the day and TFTC.

03-Mar-13
Found @ 8:34am, find # 1991.
Today was planned that we would do a bit of motorbike riding, so I made sure that finding the rest of the caches in this series was also on the too-do list.
We arrived in the area and headed off, we made our way to Rocky tk and found that there has been some major works do to the tracks around here, so it was a fairly easy ride up the hill to GZ.
When we arrived near GZ we also found that a huge patch of undergrowth had also been cleared away making the walk into the cache fairly easy also, the cache was found and the log signed, now it was time to move onto the next one.
Thanks to Team Crackers for this cache and all the caching fun.

29-Dec-12
I took the rocky road and managed to stay upright all the way to GZ. Regrowth has made the search area a little tougher but ammo cans are a bit easier to spot. One of my muggle mates was interested to see the hidden treasure in the bush lol. TNLN. Thanks guys for a challenging cache.

@ 5.45pm Cache #868

[teal] Phew I’m done![/teal]

Had high hopes of attempting this series today after the 4x4-1 series of caches but grossly under estimated the time involved in completing those caches

Only had time for this one and the effort required to get up to this cache I soon realized there was no fuel left in the tank and defiantly no spring left in the legs, so I was glad to call it a day.
The area around GZ was so thick with regrowth I was surprised to find the cache so quickly, signed the log and made a quick decent back to the car on the 2x2 MTB

Thx again Teamcrackers I’m already planning my return visit to finish this series and if its anything like what I’ve seen so far it should be a cracker

After a huge 12 plus hour night of caching with the TDC crew, I had crashed at Ivanhoe with my best mate Blacklegend where we usually stay after a big nights cache run. I had the day off today so decided to leave Ivanhoe and head east to the far side of the Bunyip state forest and try my luck at some caches there that i'd been meaning to collect for a long time now.

During the journey across it would be nice and sunny, then pour with rain, at which times i'd be thinking 'time to just go home' but I continued on and by the time I arrived at the track in the weather had cleared, even though it was still quite cold. I headed in from the North down Limberlost Rd and then down Forest Rd before arriving at the point where I left the Pathy and headed in and up on foot.

The gate was closed to 4WD so I decided to head in on foot. The way up was quite steep and rocky in parts and I would have loved to have taken the Pathy up the track, and it was really dry here too, but it wasn't to be today. I arrived at the point where it was time to head 'off track' and the undergrowth was really really thick. It took a while to locate GZ but once I had identified that the cache was soon found. A machete would have been very handy, I literally had to walk and roll over the undergrowth to get here.

I think the photos of the terrain don't do it justice. An enjoyable cache all the same and the walk up was great. Thanks or the hide.

21-Jan-11
This was fun! Helped by Dylan 7a's four wheel drive, which got us near the Cache (going uphill as opposed to down which may have been more difficult). There was clear evidence on the 'track' of water erosion and the Forest still shows extensive signs of the murderous fires that roared through a few years ago. The undergrowth was lush and in places chest/neck high. Hearing the sound of Eastern Whipbirds (amongst many sounds) and sensing the varied aromas coming from delicate flowers was a treat. Following the clue, (and essentially putting away the GPSr) after a patient and careful search (being mindful of snakes and ignoring cautiously most of the small spiders), we found the Cache, early evening, which is in fine condition - snug and contents dry. I took pity on the TB inside, which 'pleaded' to be picked up in order to resume its Australian sojourn. Thank you to 'Team Crackers' for an enjoyable caching and 4 WD experience. Nice to find a robust ammo box too.

Found with The Quiet Plodder. Thanks to Team Crackers for the great series of caches.

Also a DNF for the first attempt of the day. This was also the only cache site my Forester was able to access. It just got too rough after that. There is a lot of vegetation that's grown up around the site now.

30-Oct-10
DNF with jaffnut. Hmmmm, it has to be here, doubt if it would get muggled, but despite our best efforts, it remained hidden. The GPS was pointing in all directions with up to 20 metre inconsistancy. We resorted to the clue and we were pretty sure we were searching in the right place but couldn't find it. We were wet up to the knees and decided we had better come back another day. As jaffnut said, this was still a very memorable cache. Thanks for the hide Team_Crackers!

30-Oct-10
Well what can I say, this was almost a memorable cache. I say memorable because despite our best efforts and a fair deal of searching, 3up and I left empty handed (and rather wet). But let me digress. We approached this cache from 'Well That Was Rough' which meant we descended that rather large hill. Given that it was raining, the dirt was transforming into a clay slide fest, so we had lots of fun. (Thankfully 3up's 4WD skills were more than up to the challenge.) At the bottom of the hill we bumped into a couple of other keen 4WDers and advised them it was pretty slippery up there. "No problems" they replied. Ten minutes later, one vehicle was reversing down the hill and the other had the winch out. Anyway, back to Rocky Road. Being raining and cloudy, we had trouble getting a good gps fix, so after 10 minutes of stumbling around in wet vegetation we resorted to the clue. Unfortunately, we still didn't come up trumps. Not to worry, we will be back one day to search again and to finish both the 4x4 series. Thanks for a most memorable day and for the series Team Crackers.

After having such a great time on 4x4-1 and seeing as we all had extra food on board, my group of 3 Jeeps and 1 Holden decided to tackle 4x4-2

There were a couple of tricky sections, but even when presented with a chicken track, some of the guys decided to try the harder path with stock height and only some mud tires to help keep things on track. All went well, cache found after some searching. (very appreciative of having a clue).

We went on to look for 4x4-2 cache #2 but upon looking at the track, and looking at 3 mostly stock forbies, 2 of which had very new drivers, we all decided that there was no shame in calling it "beer o'clock", so at around 5:20pm we turned around and headed back to the Longworry BP.

It was a fun day out celebrating the Australia Day long weekend, and I am sure to be back with some more modified Jeeps to tackle 4x4-2 again!

Well now it's time for the final (first) cache in the series.
Coming down from the second cache I nearly went A over Turkey twice.
Yes there was a reason I left this on till last.
Reason:
I did these caches in the reverse order to the way they were planned.
Because I'm a rebel, no that's not it, I had looked at the maps and decided it was the best way on foot.
Also I wanted to log them from last to first in order.
I'm now glad I did it this way on foot in this order.
When walking up hill you know when you reach the top it's down hill from there.
But the problem is when walking the up hill is the killer.
But the good thing about this series is that my vehicle did not get damaged on any of the tracks.
Mainly because it was not on them I was though.
But also remember I did not get damaged either.
So my epic adventure is coming to a close.
Relieved, maybe or could I have gone on?
That's the question you can answer because I'm not telling.
I had a most enjoyable day caching and would do it again.
Well do you think I would?
So here is an update to the distance traveled.
16.5 kms (walking and driving)
Nearly forgot, found this cache at 1615 hours.
That's right the quickest find out of all five caches, just 20 minutes from the second cache in the series.
Now what do you want me to say?
I could say that this was the Greatest Series of caches I have done, but that would be tell the truth.
Or I could say that this was the best Epic Adventure I had, But that would be telling the truth.
So I will just say that this is a must do series, but that would be telling the truth.
So weather you drive or walk it is a must do series.
That's my opinion and I telling the truth.
So once again I have really enjoyed my epic adventure.
So all praise to Team Crackers.
Seriously Thanks Team Crackers for this Great series.
Ponder this!
Who needs a Four Wheel Drive Vehicle?
When two legs can do a series like this.
YOU GUESSED IT ME.
But if I didn't want to walk it, I would have left it.
So once again thanks.
Just forgot to add to the log.
Arrived back at the car at 1625 hours.
Total distance traveled was 17.10 kms (driving and walking).
