Day #13 Dunedin to Lake Tekapo - The Mega New Zealand ExperienceA chance for an overseas Mega was too good to pass up. Especially with half the state seeming to be attending also. I set about some last minute planning.? Flights still available? Accommodation found? Mode of transport securedLooks like its time to cross the ditch. Ive never visited the South Island before so it is bound to be a fun filled trip. Its time to leave Dunedin now that that the mega is over. Lots more adventures though before I leave NZ, lets hope the snow doesnt get in the way!WOW, what was infront of me did not match the photos from a few days ago from posums. Snow! Everywhere! It was 5:30pm, heavy clouds and fading light, 6 degrees and I was standing in shorts and runners. The perfect combination for hiking though the snow to find some caches! So off I went! Fortunately the track was still able to be identified all the way to near GZ and the final path to the cache wasnt too bad. The cache was just able to be seen and so I was able to log my first snow cache!A big thanks goes to drawp for taking the time to add Hooker Valley View (South Canterbury) to the geocaching map for us all to find and enjoy.----------------------------------------------------------Wow! The fun just never stops.Have you logged your will attend for Victoria's first ever Block Party? (Think Mega but even more special!)Join us on 22-23 March 2025 in Sunbury to celebrate 25 years of geocaching by logging your will attend at [**GCAP417**](https://coord.info/GCAP417).?
A plan was hatched quite a while ago when the Dunedin Mega was announced to come over to the South Island again.I have only been to New Zealand twice before and I loved the South Island. So a chance to come back for a Mega was a no brainer for me.Everything was booked and I flew in on Saturday after a bit of a delay. After a great few days in and around Christchurch its time to head to Twizel for the night with a detour via Mount Cook.So Day 4 of my Mega NZ trip begins and Im on my own again so lets go find a few more caches along the way. After a couple of nice hours wandering around Lake Tekapo I have made it to Aoraki - Mount Cook. The drive in the peaks looked great covered in snow.I made my way along the Hooker Valley trail and after checking out the memorial to all that have passed I made it to the look out.A few people here but most were continuing along the trail and over the foot bridge.A great view from here but unfortunately my dodgy knee was telling me to go no further so I took in the view and headed back to the Geoloancar to head towards Twizel. Thanks drawp TFTC.
I was little worried a lot of muggles on the trail, but a quick easy grab todayTFTCCoop2000Minnesota, USA
Was busy at the vieeing area above. Darted down the track but went too far. Was searching somewhere that matched the hint until the spaniard decided to give me 3 savage pricks ensuring blood was drawn. Decided it wasnt "there" so went back up the track to find a similar location & there was the cache. Phew [TFTC]
Was here one year ago with no luck, today I have found this cache. Such a beautiful location. Glad I could get back
We were early enough to grab this one unseen. Looked in the wrong place at first. TFTC
#3832 Today is day 6 of my geocaching holiday in New Zealand. I went to Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park and found some geocaching there and along the way.I took the trail that has the most geocaches and the most popular trail, Hooker Valley Track.Found it and got poked. The cache was not under the boulder but tucked to the side between the boulder and the spiky. Put it back under and covered with rocks. drawp, thank you for the cache!-crystaloops from Taipei, Taiwan on October 6, 2024 @ 11:40:30[GC21M0M] Hooker Valley View (South Canterbury) was a D2.0/T2.0 Small Traditional Cache at the time of finding.
Seem to be kind of out in the open. We replaced it in the same spot, but slightly more hidden. Thanks for the cash.
We continued on for our short walk, stillamazed at the number of people on the track.I only have my phone for navigating, which is less than accurate. Missed it on the way down but a better search on the way back proved fruitfully.Again, thanks for the cache drawp.
Quick find! Also quick broken phone when I stood up and dropped it on the rocks..After recently getting it repaired too....
Nice quick find on the shortcut route down to bridge one. My son loved taking this route up and down to the bridge. Tftc such a stunning place
Glad it was t at the actual lookout as that was packed! Nice to see the view from this quiet little spot. Easy find TFTC
Down in the south for my birthday and what a beautiful place to be Loved the walks and the scenery and collecting caches on the way. Thanks to the COs for the placements and info about the area What a view just amazing today TFTC
Its best to pick these off when its early and theres no one Easy find! Thank you for placing the cache - its in good order.
#2356 (Tontako Team) Kia Ora from Spain! We found this cache during our New Zealand / Aotearoa holidays.TFTC ??
The track was unbelievably busy, there were people coming and going constantly. After a wet start, it was a lovely day, so maybe the good weather brought out the tourists? Cache was nicely placed away from the crowds and StreetWalkerNZ soon tracked it down. Great viewpoint here. Thanks for bringing me here and TFTC.
#23592. There were muggles galore, but with the cache a few metres off the track, and a good hint finding it was straightforward. Great views today, and not much wind. TFTC.
Found together with Heureka10.Thanks for the cache.Greetings from Czech Republic.

Hiking the Hooker Track on an absolutely georgeous day! Felt like a Billy goat on this one. TFTC
Today we arrive in MT Cook. First a walk, the Hooker Valley walk, a beautiful walk. Along the way we pick up a number of caches, some places are too busy to search. Once again highly recommended. Tftc
Just getting around to logging the caches I found while visiting New Zealand from the U.S. with LaFavorite Cacher. We had a great time traveling around the country seeing the sights and picking up some caches along the way.We loved the hike. Any geocaches we found were a bonus. Thank you for being a part of our adventures!Note: LaFavorite Cacher has sent in the answers for any earthcaches or virtuals required for both of us.
GeoJayne and I made our way from Lake Tekapo to Mt Cook and then on to Wanaka. It was a beautiful, sunshiny day. We didn't get as early a start as we would have liked because I hoped to see a sunrise. Nope. No luck there. That meant we made our way to the Hooker Valley Track later than we would have liked so we spent time with hundreds of new friends! LOLI knew that the hike would be long but construction near one of the suspension bridges added time to the journey back when no one could get near that bridge while a helicopter picked up equipment. I'm not walking very fast right now, anyway, but that delay had people walking up on me more than I would have liked. We ended up not getting as many caches as originally planned because of the number folks around and my not wanting to expend any extra energy! LOLI DID make the find on this one while GeoJayne watched me with great concern. I am not as steady as usual since I am 5 months post-knee replacement and she worries. Thank you for the smiley and the fun!
Gefunden als Cache # 1873.Vielen Dank an drawp fr den Spa des Suchens, das Herfhren und das Legen und Pflegen sagt Tiggaro!
After a long weekend stay in the Wanaka area we were returning to Christchurch but diverted to walk the Hooker Valley Track. My Grandson was keen to find the caches along the way. Thanks for placing, FP awarded.
Today we are walking the Hooker valley track. Beautiful weather but heaps of people. The view was worth it. Cache found quickly with help of the hint. Thanks for hiding and maintaining the cache.
On our two-month trip through New Zealand and Australia we arrived at Mount Cook. The weather is glorious and we're going for a walk all day. This cache was found during the beautiful hike.**drawp**, thanks for the cache.
We are currently on a eight week holiday which is mostly spent in New Zealand and Australia. However, the first three days were spent in Signapore as a nice break from an otherwise long flight. Yesterday we drove from Christchurch to Mount Cook. The weather is excellent. A blue sky and an exuberantly shining sun. Mount Cook is clearly visible. We are staying in the Hermitage and plan to hike the Hooker Valley walk from the hotel. It is an excellent walk with magnificent views. Adding to the fun is that there are some caches along the route. Like this one. Nice big box and an easy found. Thank you very much for this cache.
4-week family trip through NZ - Find #141!Both the hint and the coordinates were spot on, and so my son ChrisAngel99 and I could make a quick find .TFTC!
