We had no idea of the long and colourful history of this cache - we just took advantage of a beautiful morning to drive up Mt Ainslie and noticed a cache on our device. Geotot found it easily and we eagerly signed the log. It is a very exposed position so not surprised it gets unwanted attention! Thanks for maintaining this as the other caches here are difficult for folks like us just visiting for a short time. TFTC
Wow...the horse lives!!! I'm sure it wasn't there when I last checked. Currently away but will look at having it reinstated when I return next weekend.
Good news.......
Good news.......
I was in the area because of one of Tankengine's Multi-caches. I told my Geokid the story about the disappeared Pole Position and showed her were the cache was supposed to be. And guess what? In its hiding place was a silver cylinder with a log sheet. The last signature was from 20/2/13. Does a muggle noticed his/her error and put it back?
Is it possible to reactivate the cache?
Is it possible to reactivate the cache?
Sorry, but the horse had died.......meaning that this cache has been flogged enough and can't be continued with.
Just for the record................a cache was first placed here on 1 Feb 03 by Chris, but transferred to Spindoc Bob on 30 Mar 04. FTF was..............wait for it...............Tankengine. It was found a total of 280 times and archived on 2 Dec 09.
On 4 Dec 09 Secret Squirrel-BJC replaced it, with the FTF being wink.inc. It was transferred to myself on 23 Jul 11 when SS-BJC 'retired'. Up to today the new cache had been found 354 times. Not a bad effort for the area.
Unfortunately, the cache has been muggled a few times lately, the most recent of which was before it could even be found after the previous disappearance........
So, after a total of 634 finds, The Pole Position (and again) is put to rest. I will look at another location in the area in the near future, but will leave that pole alone.
Thanks to all who found it under either version....hope you enjoyed the location.
Thanks also to Chris, Spindoc Bob and SS-BJC for the placement and maintenance over the previous 10 years.
Stayed tuned for something new..........
Cheers,
Sol de Lune

Im guessing this in meant to be in the concrete bollard. In the hole. Not there today. It might just be to high a muggle zone.
Feel free to delete this log if you replace it again sam.
Thanks

The horse was seen to move.........just a little, so the cache has been replaced and is ready to go again........

Went to check the area today...only to find Prime 7 filming something....with their gear right on GZ (see picture).
Will try again tomorrow.....

When I arrived at the given coordinates, I saw a structure with a special feature in it. Immediately the name of the cache and the additional hint made sense to me. But I didn't find any container.
OK so I came back after having discussed this cache with one who had gone before - ie I knew where it was supposed to be - IT WAS NOT. Very clever placement but I think that it has been muggled,
Will check it in the next few days. If it is gone, that will be it. You can't keep flogging a dead horse.....
Stay tuned....

This was a quick find. Ducked out at lunchtime and returned without anyone noticing.

I came specifically to get this cache but there were 2 satellite dishes set up just below the pole. I'm not sure, but it seemed to me that they were distorting the signal as my Garmin 62S was pointing to GZ at the curb across from the steps to the pole. The hint didn't make sense for that location so I decided I'd come back another day.
I picked up this cache before heading out on a walk with the Caberra Bushwalking Club. Not many muggles around so it didn't take long to grab this nice hide. TFTC SDL
Today we were traveling from Leura in the Blue Mountains to Canberra. On the way we made some stops, some were just for coffee, some to visit historical places. Berrima was one of those places and so was Goulburn. We liked the latter better, although Berrima has a very lovely stretch of river that goes behind the old church (and of course there is a cache hidden there...). We found al the caches we sought for today, so it was a good one

I didn't have the chance to find the previous cache, but I'm happy that Secret Squirrel replaced it and Sol de lune is keeping it going. I sat on GZ ready to extract the cache, when an ambulance pulled up in front of me. Seems that the driver was giving her offsider a tour of the walking tracks of Canberra, so while they were doing that and everyone was distracted, I made a quick extraction.
Thanks Sol de lune!
Thanks Sol de lune!
Quick find. I casually sat on top and soon had the cache in hand. I have seen one of these hidey holes before. TFTC.
Yup stealth involved indeed. Luckily a kangaroo turned up and distracted all the tourists!
Drove up the mountain to check out the views. Quick check to see if there is a nearby cache, double take, their is one 4 Mtrs away... Wow that is convenient on this hot day. Great location. SL..TFTC
Out showing the sites as we are having overseas guests and a trip to Canberra is a must, great place for the views, bonus is the cache. TFTC
Been to Canberra many times and always meant to come up here but for one reason (or excuse) or another, never have - until now.
Thanks for providing the motivation. It really is a top view - and no ugly transmission tower charging entry fees either.

On hour 4 week holiday from Canada in Australia. Visiting NSW, Victoria, Tassie, and South Australia. Discovering your country by car, bus, boat, coach, airplane and by foot. We enjoyed it so much we are already planning our next adventure. While traveling I was able to log a cache here and there and this is one I found. TFTC! Introducing our aussie friends to geocaching..
We did this cache as part of the night trip to Canberra. Found quickly and easily with lenicka.second and membsec. TFTC
Found it together with omaster and membsec on our nice evening visit in Canberra. We hae seen some kangoroos here too. Found quickly and easily. TFTC FP

Found after the midnight and a bit 12-12-12 event. We were shown the way by cachers who had previously found it tonight as many others probably did after the CITO happenings. TFTC.
Found on 12/12/12 after attending the Five Dozen CITO event in the middle of the night

After participating in the CITO event I, along with several others, signed the log and were on our way.

Found at 0035 after the CITO event - not as difficult as I thought, what with the gathered crowd and the general 'there is it' sort of tone of the conversation... . Slipped my signature in with the rest, then lingered to chat about all things caching. TNLNSL - thanks for the cache Sol, one more smiley on the mountain.
Being at the Five Dozen CITO we couldn't avoid grabbing this cache so as we thought we were on our way we grabbed the cache and signed the log before starting to chat to those near the cache. This turned into a long and enjoyable chat with AmethestPig, Chalk It Up and Boot65. TFTC Sol de lune, always love the views from up here.
Find # 5009 on arrival at the 5 Dozen Cito event with Joelisa.
Another quick find and a bit of dejavu from the first cache up here.
TFTC Sol de lune,

A cache to fill in time before the CITO. Found as the owner approached. Nice to meet you and TFTC. NOw time to pick up some rubbish in the middle of the night.
I found a couple other caches down the hill. I had to drive to the top and this one had to be found.

Found this in a cold and blustery morning whilst dodging bus loads of kids on excursions.
Thanks for the hide. Can hear the concert going on below ) muggle central here for sure
At the end of the day I came up here and have had a nice view of the city. The cache was found fast.
Thanks for the cache and greetings from Germany.

Out for a bit of touring with dvixen and tiger monkey on out trip to Australia from Canada. The views from here are spectacular, and really let you see the grand design of the city. Thanks for the cache!
This was sitting ON the pole position, not within it... strange but true. We logged and put it where I am sure it was intended to go. Thanks Sol de lune
Our second find in a 24 hour trip to Canberra. As always we use caching to find the best lookouts wherever we're visiting , and this was a great one with an amazing view of the city.
Thanks for bringing us here.
Thanks for bringing us here.
Lovely cool day today as wow lovely lookout and quickly spot cache , well hide.. thanks
Keeping with my goal of logging at least one cache in each state of Australia while touring, today I found this one. I slipped away from our bus group and found this one in the short time we were given for a photo op. Thank you. Glad you placed this one here so I wouldn't mess up my tally.
Finally, the cache is back in online. However it is now..........last chance salon for the cache.
I have made it a Premium cache in the hope that will help it from being muggled. Time will tell.

Well, unfortunately I wont have it back on line just yet....
Turns out that my containers are too big to fit.....I will need another style of that container and will need to source them from somewhere.....hopefully this week sometime.

Came up with o'cholio who had found this one before, but unable to find the container.
Suspect something has happened to the container.

On excursion to Mt Ainslie and I just happened to have m GPS. So while the kids were drawing their views from the lookout I just ducked off and nabbed this one.

The amazing zita&enzo were taking me on a light caching tour of Canberra after arriving earlier in the afternoon. My first interstate caching expedition! We headed up here to grab this one and admire the amazing views! and wow, the amazing freezing cold! My nose was an ice cube. I went to find the cache, and was handed a stick by the helpful enzo. Soon enough the cache was poked out and signed, just as a muggle arrived, who said he was awaiting snow. It wouldnt surprise me, it definitely felt like it. We returned the cache stealthily and left before the snow, so not sure if muggle snowman got his wish. TFTC Sol de lune ^^
Fourth of the afternoon with Torrevieja - GPS was being a bit gippy again, and Torrevieja sat down to contemplate the options whilst letting some muggles saunter by - and there it was plain as day. TFTC!
There were muggles everywhere at this cache... even one dancing on top of it!!
Took us some time to get our hands on it, but got it in the end. TFTC.

I found the cash quickly but a lot of muggles were hovering around the area. In the end I did get it once they were all gone.

Was just able to fid a place on log sheet......lots of muggles around....new to geocaching so stoked to find one
We had targeted Climbing Ainslie as our cache to do today. We found we had a little more time than originally planned and ended up grabbing Just a Little Higher, An Anagram of Cork, Forgotten Heros, Climbing Ainslie, Mt Ainslie Quarry, Just for the View #4 and The Pole Position Again. It was a great drive and walk around the area. We saw heaps of wallabies and was amazed how close we could get ( less than 3m at one stage, almost got to pat one!)
We were going to give this one up as when we had returned from Just for the View #4 a muggle was sitting at GZ. Fortunately he soon moved on. We looked around and found the tool we needed only to find the cache wedged in and then the tool broken. We then tried again with a new tool and success. With muggles appearing again we took the cache back to the car for signing and then waited for the appropriate time to replace. TFTC

325. You are right about muggles. A very hard climb up, but worth it to get 3 more caches! The logbook was full. Thanks Sol
685. Third time lucky for this one. Previous visits had muggles everywhere. Tonight with the cold wind, I had the place to myself and just managed to find a spot on an extremely full log. TFTC.
Saturday 9 June 2012 - a magnificant sunny warm afternoon (3.50pm) without a breeze. So many muggles around but managed to extract this one with little attention from bystanders. thx p2p, thx Sol de lune.

Our twenty-third day of our honeymoon to New Zealand and Australia.
This morning we woke up in our new created bed and after having breakfast and talking to our neighbours from Melbourne we drove along the Princes Highway and the King Highway to Canberra where we did several caches. Yes, again another state where we found some caches. Today was very cold, only 8 degrees and in the evening it became around 2 degrees. Brrr! As our camera is broken yesterday, we needed a new one, so we went to Canberra to buy one. After that we visited the Australian War Memorial and the 846 meters high Mount Ainslie. Then we decided to drive to our stay for the night, the Hughie Edwards VC rest area where we discovered a group of 40 kangaroos. Let’s make that we come soon the warmer area in Australia, because now we need to become warm of our Russian Stroganoff meal with spaghetti.
We found this cache today about 3.25 PM local time.
After visiting the Australian War Memorial we drove up this mount to find our way to a nearby located unknown, which we did not find. But we had a look on the look out on the top of the mount, but as the weather was ugly we quickly continued to search for the cache. With the given hint it was difficult to find the cache as only one object suited to the hint. With the helps of two pens we logged the cache and we placed it back.

Nothing like a Geocache to motivate two kids to run up a mountain and rewarded by a good find. What a relief!
This took me a lot of searching and just as I was about to give up, I found it.
Great cache.
Great cache.
Fun find. When I told my kids what the clue was, they came back with half a tree branch! As the GPS drew us closer, my 6yr old guessed the hiding spot straight away!! Thanks. Our first find in the ACT!!
This lookout being one of my favorite places since first coming to Canberra with the school, in the mid 70's and which I visit every time I am down here, it should only be appropriate that I made this my 500th cache. Now the importance of this is that I have achieved all my major milestones in a different state of Australia, 100 in NSW 200 in SA 300 In QLD 400 in WA 500 in ACT Thanks for the simple cache, easy in the dark just sit, poke, catch! one of the clearest view up here tonight that I have seen with heaps of photographers about. TFTC hope it remains!!
Found this cache after a day out exploring the War Memorial. Easy find had to wait out some muggles.

Geo kids found this cache quite quickly, gotta love their enthusiasm and speed. Found of an evening before it got too dark. TFTC
A great spot amongst all the tourists, we used all our stealth skills on this one. TFTC
Yay easy find with no one around; tried this one ages ago but it was missing (poked around in the same place). TFTC
Amazing view, and almost muggle free. Stirfryinoz got us quite close and I found the stick. Found with beer and broccoli and muttsnuts1973 as well.

Few muggles around on an overcast Sunday morning which made finding easier. Handy stick very close by! With ptelle, muttsnuts1973 and stirfryinoz.
Nice quick find. Right there under my nose this whole time and I never saw it.
Nice hide, wasn't sure where to look based on the title but when we got to gz it all became clear, but there were lots of muggles about had go pick the right moment to retrieve and replace. Sorry for the late post but had a trip after the mega and have been back for a while but life has gotten in the way again. TNLNSL TFTC.
