No response from owner. If you wish to repair/replace the cache sometime in the future, just contact us (by email), and assuming it meets the current guidelines, we'll be happy to unarchive it.
The new coordinates are: S 40 19.466, E 175 48.438 +/- 5m. (taken from MalcolmB's log further down). Would be a shame to see this old historic cache archived.
The cache is still there. Looks like owner has abandoned. Anyone want to give updated co-ordinates to Reviewer?
The cache appears to be in need of owner intervention. I'm temporarily disabling it, to give the owner an opportunity to check on the cache, and take whatever action is necessary. This is a cache which, despite regular visits to Palmerston North, we have not previously managed to visit. Having walked all the way up, it was somewhat worrying that after a considerable time searching the two possible hint locations at the published coordinates, we were unable to find the cache. We decided to check previous logs and discovered the cache has been moved to a different location, and with the new coordinates, and hint, it was quickly found. We are astounded to now find the cache was moved over two years ago, and the coordinates have still not been corrected. Please update the cache description with the new size and hint, and get a reviewer to change the coordinates to the correct ones. TFTC

Quick find with tmann421 and Hugo the dog. Glad it was a quick find as it was a bit of a hike and I wouldn't want to be climbing up there again just yet. TFTC.
Found with Barri-Ster & Hugo the dog. Was a bit worried as last visitor couldn't find the cache, however we located the cache very quickly. Really good area for the cache and good walk today. Container and contents in good order. SL TFTC

With Peregrina. The GPS pointed us into the bushes...but after decrypting MalcolmB's hint we soon had the cache in hand. Continued on to Apiti Lookout, then headed back out to the Ballance end of the track.
[After consulting with the cache owner I have replaced the original cache with a new one. It seems impossible to update the coords so I will keep adding this note from time to time. It is in a different position to avoid the problem with high traffic around the original site and is a 200 ml systema container covered with camouflage tape containing a log book, pencil and some foreign coins together with a Geocoin. The new coordinates are: S 40 19.466, E 175 48.438 +/- 5m.

Looked and looked but could not find it. I now see it have been moved, should have read the posts before I went eh... Oh well it was a great walk and I'll just have to go back.
Possum found this while walking the Manawatu Gorge Track with the Wednesday trampers from the MTSC. It took him a while thrashing around in the bush without Cleo to help. The tramping group left him to it but at last it was located. Took a UK penny and left a star puzzle. It would be great if the details above could be corrected but the cache is exactly where MalcolmB says it should be (see log of 10 August 2008). TFTC

Clearly I should have done more research on this one before heading out on the hunt.
As a result I spent time looking for the cache in it's old location. When I did finally go back to the earlier logs to see how others had fared my printout did not go back far enough for me to see the up-to-date data so I came away empty handed. Ah well! Maybe the weather will be a bit better when I get another chance at this one.
Perhaps the owner of the cache needs to update the key data to reflect the changes made on their behalf by MalcolmB.

This cache has been moved. See my earlier note with regard to its new position and hint.
All that trek up hill and then a no find. Found two thin cabbage trees as in the hint but after an extensive search had to admit defeat. New seat and lookout area may have covered or disturbed this cache. Would suggest checking with owner before embarking on this walk or you may be disappointed.
Came in from the Woodville end & whew what a climb! Found without too much trouble but the given co-ords are not correct.

love this track! Great place for a cache. took out a couple of Malaysian coins & put in a pet rock - a cat, & a little badge.
Quick, though well hidden find on a blustery day. Moved Trampers Geocoin on. Thanks for the walk
Thanks very much to MalcolmB for replacing this long-standing cache which I have been meaning to visit for some time. The new hiding place is an excellent choice - a snug, dry spot indeed. This was the third find of the day on our enjoyable afternoon walk through the gorge walkway. TNLN.

couldn't find this one. we had read the previous comment, so wer'nt hopeful, but thought we'd look anyway. such a lovely track, hope it does get replaced. We're regular visitors so will check it out again sometime!
We didn't find this one, assume it was AWOL, going by the previous log. Anyway we just came for the walk - which was very nice.
Called in at the site this cache was located at on my usual keeping fit regime and on checking the cache couldn't find it. I suspect it has been removed by persons unknown and therefore is history. It was placed there a long time ago (relatively speaking) and maybe the owner(s) have long gone. If so i would be happy to replace it - perhaps in a new location rather less subject to being muggled. If that is this case let me know.
Did this while walking the "shortest Tararua Crossing". We last walked it 20 years ago- the track is sandal quality now. At Ashhurst end DoC is making it a metalled highway! We liked the viewpoints DoC has added to the track, but were rather taken aback by the sound of the wind turbines. Excellent choice of caching spot, though hiding place seems to be rather easily muggled.
Nice walk in and an interesting view. The windmills are pretty impressive, if not a bit of an eyesore??? - toy horse + GC TFTC
Set out with Paul303 and Snuff to get this one before it went too dark, not a good idea to do this one to late in the day!!! We arrived at 6:20 and didnt get back until 7:45!! Felt like ages getting up the track but well worth it!!

Took the 40 min option which I managed in 32 minutes and another 20 mins back to the car so happy to save some time and go find some more caches
Great track and great spot where the cache is placed. After driving the gorge so many times it was a suprise to see what was up above. Would really like to do the whole track end to end one day.
No one about at GZ so quick cache find but only just got it tucked away again before some muggles arrived on the scene.
TNLNSL, many thanks, thoroughly enjoyed it.

It took me an hour to run in to the cache and back from Ballance Bridge.
There is great view from the cache.
I have run the gorge track several times, but I have never stopped off at this lookout before.
The cache was intact and dry.

This is a lovely place to look for a cache, but disappionting as it had been muggled. Found open, spralled over the ground and very wet. Someone had signed the book on the 1-1-07. The three of us cleaned and dried the contents as best we could and double bagged it and put it back where we believe it should be.
Contents now-
PC chip & fan
1 AA Cells
Three screws
Two Airforce stickers/tatoos
$3.00 postage stamp, torn
Miniture clothes line peg
Note book
Instructions
1 working pen
We tidied up the area on a beautiful morning

Paco, Red and Pepsi the dog arrived on the lookout just behind some trampers who decided to have their lunch on the spot.
While we waited for them to leave, we managed to find lots of the landmarks on my GPS on the landscape down below us.
35 minutes later, the trampers left and we had a chance to find the cache.
Just as we were deciding what to take, we heard the next lot of muggles making their way up the track. We had very little time to make our choice, close the cache and hide it again.
The notebook is damp. Fortunately, two of the pens still work.
Beautiful place, great views, wonderful weather, ah, this is a great way to start Queen's Birtday Weekend.

Took the long way in and used this as a late afternoon workout on Anzac day holiday, after all the rain had stopped. It was a cracker too, and bonus was I had the whole place to myself, not another soul in sight.
Found the cache OK at 5:00 pm then had to scoot to get to the carpark before dark.
This is a great site, well worth the effort to get to it, I recommend it.

Bit of a slog up the hill but we made it - need to get a bit fitter for these ones. Busy place, lots of people passing us! Was trying out my new eTrex Vista Cx - put me right on the spot within seconds - I love it (I thought the view was great too)
This was my 5th cache of the day and probably the longest one of the day to get to.I ended up taking one of the longer tracks to get there, the view from the top was well worth the hike, once at GZ it only took a matter of minutes to find the cache.
the sun was out and there was only a slight cool breeze which was great.

Did this cache on our way back from a trip to the Castlepoint cache.
Parked at the car park near the state highway bridge. Arrived at the location 50 minutes later after a good climb with light rain and windy conditions. We too missed the turnoff but after a wee bit of backtracking corrected the error. The low clouds hid the view at first but during the 10 minutes we were there the cloud suddenly lifted and revealed the fantastic views from east to west.
What a special spot and well worth the slog. (Thanks Adam and Jason)

Donna and I took two friends Shane and Melissa for a hunt as they'd never heard of geocaching. Great walk, we had a ball as did the dogs. Awesome view! Left the million Lira note from D.U.N.E. and took the destroy keyring.
This is the second time I have walked this track, and the 3rd for Bernadette (the other times were prior to us discovering Geocaching)
Started at the Palmerston North end of the track having left a car at the Woodville end and proceeded to walk the whole track - GPS reception was a bit patchy so ended up missing the turn off to the cache, after back tracking for a few hundred metres we found where we should have turned and walked out into the open. As we were walking with Bernadettes Grandparents we had decrypted the clue so not to bore them while hunting so found the cache very quickly
Took the NIB magnet and left the 'Destroy' Keyring from Pencarrow Head.
Cheers
Nick and Bernadette.

Finished the lab about 1130 this morning so decided to head out and try and grab a few caches. Following Adam's advice, I headed in from the East side of the track. I found the entrance easy enough. I wandered along the track at a good pace for around 30 minutes before finding a sign directing towards a closer car park. Bugger. Oh well, I needed the extra exercise I carried on up and into the gorge and after about 50 minutes I hit an intersection, I carried on a little, and at the next clear air I checked my coordinates and found I'd gone past it. Hmmm. I backtracked and soon found the general area, and as it clicked down to 0.00km I saw the spot where I thought the cache would be, and it was there It was a lovely view from there, of the gorge, and to the east. No exchange was made. I soon headed back down the hill and back to the car and onto the next cache. A fair effort required, but it was worth it and very enjoyable. Great cache! Cheers Gav [68/FTF]
