As time goes by the likelihood that the poor old building will implode becomes greater and greater so I'm following Health and Safety guidelines and have removed the cache. Actually I doubt the building even complied with H & S guidelines the day it was built.
Although the coordinates and hint were both accurate, it took us a wee while to discover the cache at this interesting, if somewhat past its best, old building. TFTC
Nice house. Or at least it must have been at some time. There is broken glass at GZ, so be careful. TFTC.
I'm glad I stopped here and checked out this old building. When I was a kid I thought this was the old post office where my great grandfather worked. Haha, I have no idea why but this belief persisted until today! Thanks Sidewaze ... awesome location for a cache. Have a favourite point.
Found with NZDi. It is Easter and NZDi decided she wanted to go to the Mapua Easter Fair seeing she missed out last year due to Covid-19 Level 4 Lockdown. Also we purchased a caravan late last year and as Easter is traditionally the last outing of the season before caravans are closed up for winter, we didn't want to waste this opportunity even though we have another trip planned next month.
So the plan is to set up at Motueka Top 10 Holiday Park for three days going to the Fair on Sunday, then on Monday look at the weather and decide whether to spend another three days in Golden Bay or head down the Wet Coast. In the meantime there is some caching to do.
Today is Day 4 of our expedition over the hill. On Friday we managed to get what the purists would say was 17 caches, but two of them were Lab Caches so GCHQ says the tally is 25, and who are we to argue with that. Saturday the purists tally was 20, but one of those was a Lab Cache so GCHQ says 24. Yesterday we went to the Mapua Easter Fair so only had the afternoon to cache and only managed to grab 12 with no Lab Caches. Today we are going to head out to Upper Moutere where NZDi spent her formative years living in Blackbird Valley and going to Neudorf School.
We had no plans for the day, just drive along roads and pick up caches as we could on the way to Upper Moutere. We turned into Neudorf Road heading for NZDi's old home up Blackbird Valley. When we got here, I couldn't believe this old place was still standing. When I first started going out with NZDi 40 years ago, this place was a dilapidated ruin then. I never got as up close and personal to it then as I did today looking for the cache, but I guess there must have been some changes over the past 40 years. The 'new' place across the road must have been started over 20 years ago as well. I wonder how long it will last.

Incredible piece of history! Amazing it's still standing, glad to have stopped at this one!!
#8582. I have been over in the Nelson region for the past week, mainly up in Takaka on a work trip but managed to squeeze in some geocaching on the weekends either side and on a couple of other days. After driving back to Nelson last night and staying with a friend I had some time prior to my flight back to Wellington in the afternoon to pick up more caches in the Nelson area. This was one of them. My muggle friend has joined me on the trip today although she has geocached with me a few times now and knows what to look for.
This was a really interesting bit of local history. The house is barely standing but that just gives it more character. My Afrikaans speaking friend was able to make sense out of the cache name. I found the cache in about the third place checked. All good here. The logbook was duly signed and the cache replaced where found. Then off to the next one. Thanks Sidewaze for hiding it here and the local history lesson.

There’s a pretty impressive building across the road, but no-one home so a nice, quick, stealthy find. Cache is in good shape too - dry as a bone. And hasn’t had a visitor for over a year. Will add to my 1 year lonely cache find list. TFTC Sidewaze.
I disabled my caches during Level 4 lockdown to encourage everyone to do the right thing. Now we’re moving to Level 3 I’m going to leave the decision to search for a cache or not to each individual. Remember you still need to stay in your bubble and a bit of hand sanitiser before and after handling a cache would be appropriate. Keep yourself and others safe.

Left early this morning to go on a trip from Dovedale to Nelson to explore cool locations and pick up a bunch of caches along the way. This was one of the many caches we found.
Hint easily gave it away but still a good hide. Left some stickers and cards for little ones to trade.

Looks like this wont be here too much longer but enjoyed looking over the fence and the details. Thank you for getting me out here Rats have started to have a wee nibble of the cache lid but still water tight.
Out for a drive around Upper Moutere and Dovedale today grabbing a few caches. Managed to stay mostly dry. Amazed at how busy this road was. And a bit of history on site also. Thanks for the cache.
Queens Birthday Weekend so we are off caching for the long weekend. Todays route took us from Greymouth to Motueka via Dovedale. We could hear voices coming from inside the building but we felt confident we could grab and sign the cache without bringing any attention to the fact we were even here. Or so we thought - a head sprung out while we were still looking. However they knew about the cache and quickly left to get back to their own business. Thanks for the effort in placing the cache for everyone else's enjoyment.
A quick find. But if we would have to decide which of the buildings to buy.... This certainly requires a bit of work. Thanks for the cache.
Stumbled upon this while peering inside the building, what a fantastic old building! Thanks
I have parked my cachemobile and snail shell up in the McKee's Memorial Reserve, Ruby Bay. There are several toilet and shower blocks and fresh water available to campers. There is just one hiccup with the showers in that they have only cold water available. Brrrr! All this for $6/night. Very good price.
I have set myself a challenge for this year to have at least the same number of caches on each day of my calender as the number of years I have been caching.
Today the target is nine but I just might go over that number. Very interesting article posted on the wall.
Cheers for the cache.

Yipee yehaa and yay - today is the end of my year long streak, so now we can cache if and when we feel like it. We had 0 finds for today and I noticed that this road had x5 unfound caches for us. Now it doesn't. I loved this cache - I had driven up the valley before but my eye was taken by the scaffolding on the other side of the road. Today I stopped and had a good look around. I parked my car so that I had cover while searching for the cache. I stopped on the way back down the valley to take photos (once my car was out of the way). A favourite from us. Thanks Sidewaze for the cache
Having a lazy afternoon, so headed out on a loop to pick up some caches and get our numbers up again.
Wish we had taken the camera - but next time this is an interesting old building -
Today I started from 1957 finds and chasing down 2000. What a lovely old house this used to be. This cache was find 1998. Thanks to Sidewaze for the cache.
Off on a days caching with MuzzaL53 helping him get to 2000 - well someone had to help him!! Another of the interesting old houses in the district. TFTC
One of the most interesting finds this afternoon very interesting old house interesting to read the history about it
Ah very cool stop on my afternoon cruise. Probably past restoration sadly but a nice bite of history for me, thanks very much
A quick find with TregearP during our weekend visiting Nelson.
A fabulous weekend - great vibe, some fantastic food and wine, and of course the All Blacks won.
All in good order at the cache, TNLNSL, TFTC.

A quick find as SJT_NZ and I were looking for property around Nelson / Tasman area, this would be a bit more of the doer upper than we were looking for. TFTC all in good order.
Love this old house, But I do wonder how much longer this cache will live. There is a new house going up just opposite the cache, currently getting its roof installed. Found on the way from Blenheim to Motueka. Yeah, taking the long way!
This cache was visited by one or more of the groups participating in an activity with the local Junior Youth Group. The groups were beep!, motorbooks and robots. They enjoyed the geocaching experience. .
A trip up the valley to St Arnaud and into Richmond the long way before a loop back through Wakefield, to Rabbit Island via Dovedale. Sounds like a crazy plan? Sure was. I've solved a couple of puzzle caches over Wakefield way and was looking to grab them on a single loop drive before a low-tide assault on the Bells Island caches, which got canned due to time/energy/pluck.
Having been in this area for just over a year a few of the Nelson/Marlborough COs are replacing some of my North Island ones on my 'caches placed by a certain CO' list. A few big movers up that chart today.
Great old building with write up to educate passers by. Whilst reaching for the cache I grabbed a sheet of really old sheet music. Nice hide here

Paddle chick and I were out for a Sunday drive with the thought of getting a few caches .It must have been a lovely place in its time, I quite agree with you sideways quick easy find. Tftc.
Out for a day's caching today, on a loop from Wakefield, through Tapawera and Dovedale.
With building works underway opposite, new and old are juxtaposed. I wonder which will last longer?
A love these derelict structures around this area, all with so many stories to tell.
Thanks

This was one of the most epic weeks ever, and definitely my most epic caching week ever.
Me and mum headed up on a holiday north to Nelson and very wider surrounds. In total during the trip, we found almost 500 caches! (470 odd I think, but final results are yet to be in! ) We covered about 3000 odd km I think too. Crazy! And had our absolute best caching day ever too at 160 found. Spend 9 days travelling, caching, and having the best time ever!!
So sorry about not so epic logs, as otherwise this would probably take me the rest of my life to log, especially with two big events to organise coming up! Eeek!!
Almost every single log we signed as 'Team Polak' to avoid needing to write out both usernames taking up space on logsheet - as well as precious caching time!! Haha.
Cool! Saw the boards about this in town, and nice to see it!

For the sake of sanity we set off with sonia26642 for a crazy geocaching trip, aiming to cache until we drop. The main destination was Nelson and the ‘surrounding’ area, but then we ended up covering a few miles in three northernmost regions, plus a few in Canterbury. We were signing/stamping the log as 'Team Polak' or ‘TP’ for the two of us on this trip to save logbook space. We found a lot of different caches, city ones, road side, park side, up a hill and on an island, and we enjoyed every single one of them. It was good to be a professional thingfinder for a few days!
The original plan for the day was to go hard out (when do we not though? ) and find max possible on the day. However, the weather forecast was not very appetising, with some high winds that could slow us down so we went a little easy…
That a cool spot! I wish someone would restore the house...
We had great fun and are grateful to all CO’s who placed caches for us to find, and help restore our sanity before returning to our other non-geocaching lives!!
Come and join us the next New Zealand geocaching MEGA event!! Register your interest now at www.nzmega2015.com to receive newsletter updates and be the first to know. It will be a great event, come and be a part of it!!

Has the road always been so close to the building? Would have risked life and limb opening up the front door! Some of the passing traffic were travelling far too fast for the conditions.
Thanks for the reason to stop and take a closer look.

#7905. Another interesting derelict building; we've come across quite a few today! TFTC.
What a fab old place. We were interested in looking through the windows at the old decor. A quick friend, thanks for the cache.
What a great spot! So glad we stopped here as it was full of quirky stories and an excellent photo opportunity . TFTC.
What a great house / inn this must have been. We enjoyed the sense of history here from olden days in Nelson. It took us a little while to locate the cache. TFTC We picked up a Beanie baby to move on its way.
What a lot of history, bet this building could tell some stories. Easy find. Left TB. TFTC
What a lovely old building. I can just imagine the horse and carts trundling slowly past in days gone by.....unlike the guy who decided to overtake another car right opposite GZ. 100kmph speed limit...really!!! Hmm.... TFTC!!
I do love these old buildings. I have driven past before but never taken the time to stop and have a proper look. TFTC

found it easy on a beautifull afternoon, fantastic old house, interesting history and fast cars :/ nice to met scotti there
One of our favourite old buildings. Last time we drove past here there was a big old villa across the road. Now there's just a big pile of sticks!
A lot of history here, which we would have driven straight by if it were not for the cache placement. Our thanks to both Sidewaze and the property owner. (You know it's a good spot for a cache when, on arrival, you are more interested in the location than in finding the cache!)
I have driven this road many many times, never noticed this though.... I must be one of those too fast drivers. Good to stop and check it out. TFTC
my german relatives arrived at Bronte landing in 1842 but stopped in the moutere where the survived in the swap and the floods for 2 years before heading to Australia for 30 years before returning to the far north
A quick stop and snatch after a great visit to our Fungi Friends on top of the hill.
Interesting to see old buildings like this still in existence and in original unimproved condition. TFTC
Found as part of a geocaching trip to and around Nelson. TFTC! Found on 29/8/2012 (but forgot to log the caches from this trip at the time!)
TFTC. A worthy place to stap and take in a unique piece of New Zealand history. You can look into the house through the unglazed windows and see the original wallpaper. Cache in good condition.
A favourite vote from me.

wouldnt even had noticed this place if it wasnt for cache, very interesting .TFTC
Looks like its straight out of a movie. Took some time to read the interesting history before moving on. TFTC
Thanks for the history lesson! Have passed this building and never really noticed it.

What a great spot and interesting old building (with a mouthful of a name) Mr Geckoh made a good show of pronouncing it for us (at least it gave us a giggle). Nice bit of history TFTC

What a neat old building. Just the sort of place for a cache so we can come and visit and check out our history. TFTC
It's been a while since anyone lived here. Some interesting artifacts were observed (from the road) gathering dust or borer frass.
Ohh a scary cache here at night! Found out some info by taking time to read the info boards. Nice big cache

Had a lot of fun trying to pronounce the name - still not sure how it should be done. Read most of the information while Jojo was logging the cache.
Found without too much trouble. Had a nice chat with the owner who was walking his dog just as I was replacing the cache. Thanks for the cache =)
While having a five weeks' holiday in New Zealand, we also want to collect a number of caches too.
During our stay in Motueka we found this one near an 'old historic building'. TFTC.

What holds it together? Fabulous to see this place and the historic record preserved,
