This geocacher reported that there is a problem with this cache.

Wr stay in Waipu regularly on our way further north. We have been a bit put off with having plaques and information missing. We walked to the two places with missing plaques, so that put a real dampener on things. But after sampling the McLeod Brewery fare, we studied things a bit more and hoped that we could find enough info to find the final. We worked out some coordinates that didn't quite look right, but the logs suggested otherwise. Up and up we went on an adventure in the motor home, hoping the road didn't get too narrow, or no turning. We reached the top and admired the view and were relieved to find parking. Sadly, the local dogs weren't happy to see us and were quite threatening. I ducked into the bushes right next to a hint item and struck gold. I couldn't believe my eyes. A great outcome after so much work. Thanks for setting up this multi no fixed aboder.

You have to be a Mr guess it to solve this one..at least 2 of the plaques are not in residence and a 3 has jumped ship( found at completely different Co Ords) I asked the CO for some guidance but nah not today..after lots of deductions a position was sorta logically derived... long and winding road we arrived at possible GZ some of the logs agreed with the area we were at could be feasible...then the dogs didn't like me parking on the road side We sat and pondered as there was no obvious location as it all looked like private property along with the posted signs...Then I spied one of the hint items in the distance ..was this private property or fair game ...the electrical transformer gave me a small window of opportunity...so KL went in while I guarded the vehicle from the barking animalsshe had been gone for sometime...had she been arrested or eaten by the dogs..As I prepared for the rescue she appeared unscathed and happy to say ...it done. Sadly this cache needs some TLC with the addition of a geo checker or such to help one confirm. I guess if you are local it would not be an issue ..tftc

Finally found this one this morning, I’ve had been walking to all the waypoints for the past couple of days and after being joined by wifey for a coffee, we made a dash to the possible final location(s). Took a while to find and in the end I used the hint and check all the totara I could find. Beautiful view from up here. TFTC

Today was a geocaching day. Time to get some decent points on the board for Mt Kilimanjaro. First was a cito in town as I do like to support these regular events that Nick and Karen put on.

I then car pooled with 0B80B8 for the next part of the day. We grabbed a couple of caches in One Tree Point area for him then off to these 2 Waipu multis. I've been slowly accumulating information for these and saving the final find for a suitable time. With a couple of plaques missing some of my puzzling skills were put to use and some research done. I had two possibilities and the most logical had the cache. It was a quick find at gz. Nice views along this road too.

We then set off to our next major target for the day - the caches along the Tanekaha track in Mangawhai. We spent 2 hours walking time and went up 340m in elevation.

We had a great day, I got fitter and earned 3750 points taking my total to 5425. Two more traditionals and I'll reach the peak. Thanks for these very old multis Smile

Despite two of the plaques missing I managed to work this one out. I had two possibilities but only one that worked. Took a while to find the right hiding location as my GPs sent me too far along the line. But soon had the first cache of the day. Lovely views from the final location.

Attempted to do this yesterday but as there was 2 missing plaques and one on the ground had to go away and rethink. The missing plaques are at 1st set of co-ords and 3rd set. The 2nd set, plaque is there but not on the rock - a rock is holding it in place on the ground. The Waipu museum is aware of this but there is no ETA on replacement. It was more then possible to work out with common sense from other co-ords and answered questions. Made our way to what we thought was GZ and were bang on. Cache found quite quickly. Signed and replaced - great views up here - glad to get the Waipu multi's done, about time. TFTC.

Headed up North with Jag50 and Merlot58 to stay in Pahi for the long weekend. On the third day we headed out to the Waipu area. We certainly picked the wrong day to head into Waipu. Had issues with traffic and missing plaques, but in the end we worked out where the final was. Quick find at GZ.

01-Apr-18
I was staying in Pahi with the Jags and Aiden29 for Easter so plans were made to collect as many caches as we could while we were up north. We did a difficult U-turn to WP 1 only to discover the plaque missing (we'd missed seeing that on the cache page) but got the required information anyway. We found another plaque lying on the ground. Waipu Cove itself was swarming with cars as it was a beautiful day so parking was difficult but we eventually got all the required information and made a quick find at the final.

We decided to get way for Easter and stay in Pahi with Merlot58 and Aiden29. This cache became a bit painful having missed the entrance on a difficult bend with fast moving traffic. Having then done a U turn we discovered the plaque was missing. Fortunately we managed to locate the missing info and then discovered another plaque lying on the ground. Got to Waipu Cove which was humming, swarming with people and with cars. Seemed like everyone was out here. Made a quick find at the final GZ.

On holiday this week, so made it a challenge to get the 3 Waipu multis today. A couple of the plaques were missing, but was still able to calculate a likely final GZ, which seemed to tie in with previous logs. Headed off to check it out and quickly found the cache where described, which just happened to be right across the road from a recently deceased friend's house...!!

All present and correct! Managed to work out the co ordinates from the clues that we could work out and lo and behold there was the cache! I'm sure the view would be spectacular if the weather was less wet!! Now off to Pizza Barn for a celebratory drink! Thanks so much for these multis- good fun on a day like this. SL TNLN TFTC

(1616) Finally had a chance to drive around the Waipu area to collect the require numbers. Great veiw from GZ. TFTC

With a bach at Langs, I've had my eye on these for a couple of years. Got the walkabout a while ago and have collected a few of the other plaques since then. Only had two for this one though but a process of elimination on the sofa today gave me good enough coords to attempt. On the way back from Steve Price's place with my groceries I stopped for one more plaque before making my ascent to GZ, just for confirmation. That info matched my projected GZ so off I went. I respect the cyclists who've got this one!!! Quick find at GZ in the rain. Camo is perishing quite badly and the logbook's bag has split, but all is fully functional. I can tell that the view would be good from up here on a fine day, but I could barely see the houses on the other side of the road today!!! One more ride around to go. Might save it for summer though to get best out of it. Thanks!

Nice drive about. Good day to do this cache as it was raining and we did not have to get out of the car. The final grab and the sun came out.

Holidaying wiht my parents. We visited the Waipu Musium, grabed some lunch then set of in hunt of this cache.
Bit worried whenwe couldn't find the fist bit of information, but were fairly cetain we had worked it out anyway, so carried on.
(It was later on that we noticed the note on cache page re this - much releived). Bit futher on we couldn't find another bit, however as we were leaving the area (up the road from where co-rds had us (not sure what we did wrong) I happened to look back and spot the answer, whew!
Stopped for an Ice cream at the final wpnt, before heading of for final. Great view, great cache, thank you for showing us the history of area. TFTC picked up coin

Picked up the required numbers as we headed from Mangawhai to Ruakaka. No problems in getting some the correct co-ords using what was on the cache page and assuming certain numbers. Picked this one up on the way back to Mangawhai and the views from GZ were amazing. Thanks for the adventure.

Another enjoyable historical tour of the Waipu area. Seeking out some information from the museum the word geocaching inadvertently slipped out. This resulted in a long discourse with museum lady who was intrigued by this hitherto unknown activity. Despite the absence of the bronze plate by the bridge (no doubt residing in some shady scrap metal merchants emporium) the final co-ords were determined. The last challenge was how to get there without helicopter assistance. Again the 'smart phone' came to our aid and revealed a hidden road, which might lead us to the spot. Indeed this proved to be the case and we triumphantly extracted the cache, despite the vigorous protests of a large black dog across the road.

We finally made it today!
The first time we tried it, we did not expect, that it takes some time to do it by bike.. So, if you want to do it by bike, plan with a big enough time-window and some trained bicycle-calves Wink
But as a reward you get really nice views in the end Smile

After a day of relaxing and reading, we decided to pop out and see if we could complete the 3 Waipu multis.

Having completed all the waypoints for Waipu Ride Around #1 and #2, we calculated the final coordinates only to find that we had missed 2 answers! Not understanding how that could be possible (we had been very diligent!), we worked out what one of the missing coordinates had to be, and then narrowed down the other number to 1 of 2 possibilities. Unfortunately, both put GZ in the ocean!

Feeling exasperated, we headed to the area where we thought was close to GZ, and found a local DRY eating establishment to rest our tired brains! Over dinner, we re-checked our numbers and realised that there was 1 further combination that might just work - and it looked logical!

After a short drive, we braved the rain and the cache was soon in hand!!!! Fair to say, that a celebratory dance that lasted for a good 30 seconds!, was witnessed by the other team member!

30km, 18 waypoints, 3 GZs, and, most importantly, 3 multis in a day! Plus, a couple of traditionals! Do much for the "lets not cache today"

A favourite point from us - for the series. Really enjoyed the challenge!

We should have checked the weather forecast yesterday!!! Brilliant weather yesterday when we did the other 2 multis in Waipu but driving rain today grrr. And we will have to revisit this gem of a place when the sun is shining, a fine example of sight we would miss without geocaching! As mentioned before one of the plaques was not found but the final coordination was easily worked out with those we did find. On our way home now... to return again one day when the weather is better to find those other enticing caches in the area. Thanks for taking time to make these interesting and do-able multicaches.

#1304, Very enjoyable multi. Lovely views at final, even tho weather today was far from good. Will have to come back to take some pictures when next in the area. TFTC

Ran around waipu yesterday and gathered the info. Plaque was still missing but still managed to get coords without any trouble. Picked up cache today, man what an amazing view. Left TB took TB .

Checked out the missing plaque which is suppose to be replaced soon. The questions can still be answered by looking around the area or by a close look at the cache page and the process of elimination.

Had a lovely drive along the coast road following the Heritage Trail. Though we had a bit of bother what with WP1 plaque missing and couldn't find WP3 at all.

So with a bit of caching experience I was able to come up with rough coordinates for the final.

What a great view from here on a sunny clear day.

Cheers for the cache.

I recall trying this multi after completing one of my very 1st triathlons in the area, and though very near to GZ was unable to find it due to challenges with the old vintage GPS & a pesky muggle appearing. I remember the great views!
So today after another tri in Marsden Cove, I thought it was time for another try at completing the Waipu Ride Arounds & to cross some of the older caches around off my list. My old notes are long gone, but I found the waypoints & answers easily this time ( the missing plaque did not matter) as well as the final. Today, there was no view in the drizzly cloud & fog.

So much fun to find this. Left a trackable in here

01-Jan-12
Found after a bit of searching around and thinking about the cache coords. One of the Plaques are missing, though we derived the coords easily without it

01-Jan-12
Been meaning to get around to these ones since I started caching, just kept putting it off and finally got around to doing them for the beginning of 2012.
Headed out with MiniMaxy and found all the waypoints

Started out at the first waypoint. Unfortunately the plaque is missing so we couldn't answer the following questions:
B = At site 8, the last digit in the year this site began as a landing place.
J = How many rivers meet here?

Fortunately the answers were easy to figure it out as they were where they are in their coordinates. So we kept going on and found the rest. Once we got to the last coordinates we headed in the wrong direction, the way we were heading originally, so we back tracked and found the right way to the final GZ. TFTC

We have passed by these Waipu multis on several occasions on our journeys up north however on each occasion we have never had enough time to stop. Today we made a special visit hoping to complete all three and we enjoyed a great afternoon learning about the local history. Thanks for sharing and the time spent creating the cache, most enjoyable T4TC.

#481 We really enjoyed the #1 of this multi. and looked forward to doing #2. This was just as great as the 1st. At least this one we knew what we were looking for on the side of the road!! Really enjoyed all the spots and the history to accompany it. So well done. Unfortunately we missed some of the info that we needed and had to guess the final co-ords, but feel very proud that we persisted and found the final, but took a little longer without the complete correct co-ords. Thanks for the journey and letting us see places we wouldn't have known about otherwise. SL TNLN. TFTC.

Disappointed that very little left of original structures. Well planned multi and easy to do from the car seat! Great views at GZ. Put in glitter and took the motorbike.

27-Jan-10
We enjoyed the 1st Waipu Ride Around, so decided to do the 2nd today, since we were in the area, and not just driving past late at night. We parked by the beach to do the Waipu Cove Views cache, then drove 100m to the shop for an icecream while we loaded the waypoints for this cache into the GPS. Closest waypoint? - 100m behind us! LOL. No problem getting the info from the waypoints, and we were in the perfect spot to turn off for the final when we had the co-ords worked out. Been to Waipu many times, but have never been to this spot. Thanks for showing us!
Agree with Nodo about the hint. On arriving at GZ we Immediately spotted a place that fit the hint perfectly, but no cache. Our first thought was that the cache may be missing. Further searching revealed the cache several metres away, in a place that only half fits the hint.

2.45pm. Number 1300 for us. Where is everyone? A second to find over a month after posting! We worked our way through this three weeks ago but couldn't decided on how to get to the final so went home and worked it out. First time back in the area today for a quick drive to. Great place - thanks for bringing us here. Took a moment to find though as the hint seemed misleading to us. But we got there. Retrieved the TB.
Thank you. David and Noeline.

Big GrinBig GrinBig Grin FTF! Big GrinBig GrinBig Grin

Perfect, a new cache on the already planned route for the day. Considered making this the second of the day, but that would have involved a fair bit of backtracking so just placed it logically into the route.

Answered all the questions, but when it came to working out the coordinates, something was obviously wrong. One question was easy to fix as it could only be one answer (A), and after some careful consideration of the coordinates realised that (C) was also likely wrong. Backtracked to C and checked my answer, which was correct, then realised that a slight error in the listing was possible and a more logical answer was obtained. That looked much more promising and after a short drive the cache was in hand. Very nice to see an empty logbook, and thanks for the FTF prize, though it didn't reap any rewards.

TFTC, + TB

Ooops! Thanks sp8sm8 for pointing out the errors. Have amended these so it will be a little less challenging for future cachers.
