Too decrepit to maintain it. If anyone wants to take it over, please do.

HAPPY MATARIKI. what better way to spend this new holiday. Was regretting my decision after driving through thick fog. As I got closer to the redwoods the sun reappeared and gave me renewed hope of finding the new caches in the area. Finally got this first pop today thanks to pp log. Cheers all good here.

Two Rotorua events provided an excellent excuse to head here for a bit of a clean up. This cache however sucked up nearly half the day. The waypoints were relatively straight forward although I did have access to a help desk when I became stuck on a WPT. The final was a another story again where both my garmin & my iphone argued over whether I was 0m or 40m away. There were no shortages of hinted items and areas to investigate and ultimately the key to finding the final was keeping it simple and sticking close to the track. Very pleased to have found this one - especially considering the previous logs. Cheers daringpeter - TFTC Big Grin

Pretty sure I was in correct place. Co ords had me at a forked punga. Searched all around and extended. Nothing??? Needs checking. Thanks anyway

Ach well.
WP4 got me ...
Thanks anyway

In Rotorua for Godzone as support crew. What better thing to do in the gaps between transitions and before the race start than check out some local geocaches. Never spotted N until back at the start, but was able to figure out where Y would be so after that, apart from suffering blindness at the correct steps for WP4 necessitating a bit of a deviation til I realised it must be there, look harder! Boom. Got it. Off to the final which CO noted had been muggled. It is there safe and sound. Log a tad damp but easy to sign. Thanks for the great walk, and cache, daringpeter.

Cache has been muggled. Will replace it, but this is the second/third? time that has happened. Need a better hide.

03-Feb-21
Got thru all the stages. The second stage had me puzzling until I read that the gps was off, the other one was stage 4 were I searched the wrong set of steps . Once at gz I had a good search but could not locate.

15-Dec-20
Good geocache! GPS is pretty accurate. Like others we were looking by the wrong set of stairs

15-Dec-20
Found it Smile

Couldn't even find the first one so gave up.

04-Oct-20
Could not find

21-Aug-20
Had a go at this multi while I trained for the Rotorua Marathon.

WP1: GPS wasn't accurate so this one took a while. Would be best to look from a different angle.
WP2: GPS way off. You do not need to go into the bushes for this one.
WP3: Found pretty quickly. No problems here.
WP4: Missed this one a few times but GPS was pretty accurate.

Sadly didn't find the cache in the end but still had a great adventure. Will be back to look for the cache. Smile

Joined by a muggle friend today for this multi. Lucky that we gave ourselves lots of time and I had a full phone battery. It took us a lot longer than the 1hr estimate. WP4 took the most time as like most people we searched around the wrong set of steps first. My friend must have jinxed us by saying that that waypoint was going to be easy! After some hints from previous logs, we finally located WP4. Then it was a rush to get to the GZ before my phone battery died. Geocache is in good condition. Shame that Miss5 wasn't with me today as she would have enjoyed swapping SWAG. Glad that we managed to get to the end for my friend's first geocaching experience. Expecting heavy rain for the next couple of days, with heavy showers starting not long after we finished. Thanks for setting up this multi.

07-Jun-20
A nice stroll around the woods. Took us exactly an hour. GZ was the trickiest as there were lots of muggles out here today. TFTC

24-Jan-20
We came, we attempted, we ran out of daylight and cellphone power.
Not calling out a DNF because we never got to GZ.
If there is a bridge at the top of the steps we didn't find it as there were some tree branches overhanging the track and with failing phones we turned back.
We will be back for another holiday at some stage in the future to have another go.
Thanks for the adventure.

Finally can put this to rest. A couple of years ago we started this multi and moved through the stages fluidly, finding the waypoints up until WP 4. As others before us did we focused on the incorrect steps even though the gps kept telling us we were still 20 meters away. It took us far too long to accept that we had got it wrong and time was running out. As we headed out of the Redwoods we spotted another track an knew that thus was where we should have gone.
Yesterday we had a moment of time after returning from grandson drop off in Turangi, before heading to Ngongotaha NZMCA park for the night. We unerringly headed to the alternative track and steps. After a shirt scan of the surroundings the next hint was spotted and we were soon off to the final. Arrived at final just on dusk and started the search. Nothing fit the hint but we persevered. Darkness won out so we had to call it quits. A quick message to the CO and he quickly assured us we were in the correct area. This morning we walked in and straight to the cache. Amazing what a bit of light does. Thanks for a great multi daringpeter.

Had a few goes at this over a period of time but eventually got there...yesterday we hunted all round the area but the GPS did me no favours...I had searched that exact spot but the plastic bag looked like some trash laying around ..so dismissed it ...also was looking for a small container not a large plastic bag with a sistema in it ..anyway a good cache that soaked up lots and lots of time I feel intimate with Red woods now some of the labels are difficult to find as time has gone on and this adds to the challenge ...thanks Daringpeter well done

26-Jun-19
Followed the trails and hunted the elusive hints until we finally found each one. It was a nice and enjoyable hike through the woods. We found the cache with no muggles around. Log is wet, but we were still able to carefully sign it. TFTC

Found whilst travelling around travelling around in campervan with my OH. The area around this cache is amazing. I highly recommend finishing this cache, it lead me to such a beautiful area. Tftc

In Rotorua for the National Indoor Bowls. None of our group group qualified for post section play today so we did the tree top walk. I suggested we do the ground track and get this cache along the way. We enjoyed the walk among the trees. Arrived at GZ and started our search. One of the party is a member of search and rescue so he directed a grid search and we soon had the cache in hand. Signed the log and replaced. Thank you for the placement.

In Rotorua with Jag50 supporting her son who was running the Rotorua Marathon. He'd finished the marathon and was resting up so we decided to collect a few caches we missed on our last trip. I really enjoyed this multi, it took us on a lovely walk and most wps were easy to find. Like everyone else we found wp4 tricky too. It pays to find the right set of steps as initially we were on the wrong ones, but once we found the right set it still took awhile to find what we were looking for as we struggled to interpret what exactly was 'the bridge'. I decided to PAF and while I was sending out a message Mrs Jag raised her eyes and spied the information we needed. From there it was an easy walk to the final which was found after a brief search.

04-May-19
Had some spare time in the afternoon, so headed into the Redwoods with Merlot58. Once we found our first waypoint, we knew what we were looking for, to gather the required information. The first 3 waypoints were quickly located. Waypoint 4 took a little longer and after reading some previous logs, we realised we were on the wrong steps. Not sure what the hint for WP4 meant, but trusting our GPS helped us to find it. No problems in finding the final which was at a beautiful location. FP for bringing us back for a walk in the Redwoods.

08-Feb-19
Nice but tricky multi in the beautiful redwood park - especially stage 4 and the final took us a while to find.

29-Jan-19
Well that was an adventure! My phone GPS was bouncing all over.
1. Not too bad once the GPS settled.
2. 50m off
3. Once I trusted my GPS, I found it.
4. Oh my. The key here is to find the bridge. Before that, however, we had quite the scramble as we dove through the bush down the hill. It can be seen from the track - the challenge is finding the right track!
Final: Hubby made the find between snapping photos. It's soggy but not too wet for writing in the log.
We loved the nearby pool! Had lunch there. TFTC!

I am very happy to have knocked this one off. Tried months ago but WP2 was missing. This is the first time I've been back since replacement. The waypoints went pretty smoothly until the final. The GPS was all over the place and there were lots of hint objects. Add frequent stops for muggles and it became an epic. However, I wasn't going home without it and, eventually, I spotted something. TFTC.

26-Dec-18
Beautiful walk through the forest.
At Stage 2, the coors were 50m in the off. Stage 4 wasn't that easy either. Nice area at GZ.

Als Abschluss unseres Besuches in rotorua den Redwood forest besucht. Diesen Cache mitgenommen war durchaus knifflig bei WP4 aber wir haben es geschafft! Das Logbuch müffelt und ist leider etwas feucht! The log book is a little wet anderen smells!

Enjoyed this multi around the Redwoods. Beautiful walk. Not sure about hint #4, but GPS got us there. TFTC

18-Mar-18
Great multi- very achievable family trek in the woods! Approx 1 hour tftc

26-Feb-18
Did this multi over two days, this first time we tried had no no luck (the plaque did not look how I had pictured it). We managed to find these all sometimes relying on the hints and others on the GPS. Was a really good multi. Thanks Smile

26-Feb-18
We did this cache over two after-work sessions... thank goodness for Daylight Savings so we could still go after work!
#1 - good hint
#2 - GPS was WAY off for us but found thanks to the hint
#3 - GPS was good and hint made it even easier
#4 - no idea what the hint was referring to but the GPS got us to the correct place
GZ - hint and GPS combined got us the final
This was a really great multi-cache and we enjoyed touring around the forest Smile

07-Feb-18
On the last morning of our family holiday in Rotorua, we decided to take a walk in the Redwood Forest and try this multi.

No problems with WP1 and WP2, but we took the wrong path from there and WP3 took a bit longer than it should have - got there in the end through. Like others, we spent a bit of time at the wrong set of steps for WP4, before looking further afield and finding the hint bridge. We walked up and down the nearby steps with no luck - not saying the plaque isn't there... but we couldn't find it today. Miss One and Mrs T were getting grumpy, so we decided to leave it there until our next Rotorua trip. Thanks anyway...

31-Jan-18
Found this cache yesterday even though i live nearby i haven't found this cache before so yesterday i was determined. All waypoints were fairly straight forward however like most we had trouble with WP4 where we found ourselves upon the wrong flight of stairs DOH. Thanks for the walk and thanks for the cache. the cache was quite soaked though may need a check up!

20-Dec-17
I'm travelling around NZ for 7 weeks, using geocaching as my tourguide.
Today I was in the mtb-trails in the Redwoods, it was sooo much fun. The bike had to be returned by 5pm, that gave me plenty of time to do laundry and relax in the evening, I was just gonna find 1 multi to keep my multistreak going....

This cache looked like it could be possible to do, since co had fixed the lost waypoint. I tought it would take 1 hour or less, but it actually took me 2,5 hours!! That's because of all the searching. Wp 1 was easy, but had some problem with the gps-signal. Wp2 was quite off the coordinates, but luckily not many hidingspots there. Wp 3 was difficult, but found it on approximately perfect coordinates, wp4 took forever, as I also ended up on the wrong trail at first. Coordinates were good here as well. Final took also forever, since the gps-signals were going crazy I had to search a big area for the cache, searching all the hint-objects. I was actually about to give up when I finally found it. I'm glad I found it in the end. I also tought my multistreak would be over at the end, but you saved me. Tftc, greetings from Norway

Replaced WP2

14-Oct-17
Will have to try another time.

03-Sep-17
No sign of WP2 today.

28-Jan-17
It was very nice

Nearly had an issue with WP4 but got there in the end. Two sets of steps make it confusing but the bridge eventually lead us to the place. TFTC and hav a fav point.

10-Jan-17
Roger found it, great multi!

30-Dec-16
2nd go at this one as got stuck on waypoint 4 previously when searching for it with someone else before I had a profile of my own. Found waypoint 4 tonight with a little help, and found the cache at GZ without too much trouble. My phone struggled with the gps in the redwoods for this multi, with some of the waypoints being 25m or up to 50m off. But a proper gps may have been a lot better. Thanks for the great multicache!

30-Dec-16
A great hike through the Redwoods!

Thanks for the Cache

No luck finding the first plaque.

20-Dec-16
Started a few weeks ago and abandoned at WP4. Came back with DotjeNL to finish the job. WP4 was the trickiest for me, and the final find had some cool bits in it Smile Added some christmas swag Smile tftc

like others be us WP4 sent us up the wrong path, so back to the next path, other than that found all the tags no problem, although the co-ords weren't always spot on, but that's to be expected in a big forest like this.

Really enjoyed the walk, thanks for bringing us here

12-Nov-16
Doh! At the starting point but can't find the 1st marker Sad there is a post with screwholes & no plaque....

19-Jun-16
Yay! Very pleased to get this one. And on my birthday. Started this one yesterday. WP1 and 2 no problems. WP3 was a bit more searching. Then WP4 just frustrated the hell out of me. So came back today with a fresh mind. And pretty much straight to it. The GZ. I must of gone over it a few times before I found it. Well covered. Left a TB and a water pistol. Tftc.

31-Jan-16
I love the redwoods! Especially on a hot day, it's nice to be in the shade of the massive trees. We were in Rotorua for a day trip with the kids. They wanted to do orienteering instead of geocaching (although I told them this multi would be like orienteering). So we went seperate ways. I predicted this to only take half an hour, giving me time to catch up to the others. However it ended up taking a whole hour, after getting stuck on nr 4 (I'd taken the wrong track) and also grabbing another cache that was nearby. There were heaps of muggles about so I had to wait a few times for the coast to clear.

I found the letters didn't always match up but maybe I was looking at the wrong thing? However the numbers still worked. Thanks for the awesome multi, pity I didn't get the kids on board - they would've loved it.

14-Jan-16
Finally! This is the third time I've tried to complete this multi over as many years, during my annual trips to Rotorua during the Christmas holidays. The first two times I came astray at WP3, as the marker had gone.

I noticed that the CO had kindly replaced all the markers, so I decided to try again this afternoon. Lots of people enjoying this beautiful place. I had forgotten that, in upgrading my phone since my last visit, I had lost the coords for WP3, so I had to start from scratch.

Like others, I had some challenges at WP4, first by taking the wrong route to get there (twice). By rereading the hint several times I finally interpreted it correctly and found the right location. I nearly gave up after searching and searching for the info, then finally spotting it in an unexpected location.

Then on to the final, which was made problematic by my GPSr jumping all over the place, and a multitude of possible hint objects. I was close to throwing in the towel for another year when I tried the last hint object and made the find!

Thanks for the upkeep on this cache - well worth the loooooong time it has taken me! TFTC

20-Dec-15
Lovely walk in the Redwoods.

22-Nov-15
Ok - so once I had read the cache description properly, I knew what to look for. GPS jumped about a bit in the trees but all good. Found all the WP's no problem. The Redwoods is a great area to visit. TFTC

Compass of my GPS send me in all direction and make us do detours.

We finaly manage to finish the multi walking a little more than expecting.

13-Oct-15
Checked WP4. All good.

13-Oct-15
We got up to WP4, but as much as we looked (over an hour), could not find this way point. Would be great if someone who has been there could check on it. Really enjoyed the orienteering in the park and even tried to guess where the cache is hidden.

28-Jul-15
We had started this multi while caching with Syra's_Paradox a couple of days ago, but on that occasion did not quite make it to the final before having to call it quits for the day.
Returned today and this time went almost straight to the final cache. Thanks, we enjoyed our stroll through these magnificent trees.

05-Jul-15
A great walk through the Redwoods and found the final just before sunset. TFTC Smile

30-May-15
Sorry forgot to say the pencil had split so donated a ballpoint pen to the cache. I agree the hint is perfect.

29-May-15
Thanks for sorting out number 2. My first ever multi-cache.. Went well today for a great walk in the Redwoods . Thanks very much. A favourite from me.

10-May-15
I had been eyeing this one up for a while, mothers day perfect excuse. Great multi - trickiest part was WP4, as we had bought the stroller and had to leave it at the bottom. What a big cache too! Cache log was in good condition, although plastic bag cover has deteriorated and needs replacing. Very much enjoyed this cache. Thanks!!

01-May-15
I have moved the waypoint #2, hopefully, to a safer location about 10m away.

30-Apr-15
Found the first waypoint easily but no luck with the second. Was after a storm and there has been a lot of work done in the area so could have been moved. Enjoyed the walk at Redwoods as always, and a tomtit came to see me which was lovely. TFTC.

01-Jan-15
I have replaced the missing waypoints.

31-Dec-14
Disappointed that the first WP had been removed so couldnt start on this day. Met CO the following day who was busy replacing them. Will do another time.

31-Dec-14
I have replaced the missing waypoints.

30-Dec-14
The waypoint markers have all been removed and this cache is now not available. I will try and replace them soon.

29-Dec-14
Went to start this multi, but unfortunately it looks like the first tag is missing, so we couldn't carry on. Sad See photo.

29-Dec-14
See previous log

16-Aug-14
Finally found after being muggled on about four other occasions. Thanks for a great tiki tour around the redwoods.

10-Jul-14
Checked and the cache is still in place, surprisingly dry in spite of the wet weather. The clue is obvious enough when you stand in the right place...

29-Jun-14
Found all WPs, but no luck with the final. Searched for a good 20min+. The hint does not really help, as there are a lot of matching objects around. GPS jumpy. Liked the "natural" WPs and the overall walk though. Thx.

11-Mar-14
Nice multi - thanks for the cache!

Fantastic multi in a marvelous forest

29-Oct-13
Really enjoyed another visit to the redwoods, this was on our list of places to visit this holiday - it was an accidental find of a location on our first holiday here and we were keen to go back! Armed ourselves with a very appropriate map and wandered through the trees. No problems with the waypoints for us and really like the area near the final. GPSr was all over the place but after widening our search a bit we found it.

18-Sep-13
Yay at last I've found this one has been bugging me for ages I have been back here several times but been unsuccessful . This morning I thought I have to check the last co ordinates to make sure they were right and guess what they were wrong my addition must have wrong now armed with the correct co ordinates of to GZ and what do you know I had cache in hand and log signed and returned in a matter of minutes . So glad to cross this of my list. TFTC and the long adventure.

05-Sep-13
Was actually nice and protected in the forest today, with a cold southerly blowing, so it made caching much nicer today.

What a mission I made of this multi. Found WP1 no problems but only changed the calculated co ords so ended up in the middle of nowhere. Walked back to wp1 again and had another go. Phew only 200 odd meters away this time. No further issues until wp3 when I took a different track and got to within 30 m of it but a large drop prevented me from getting to it. So since I was already on a track, I continued following it and got another cache on the way. Once I found the right track, it didn't take long to find the next waypoint. Then off I went looking for the final. Got close to GZ and it was just my luck that a bus load of visitors hit the trails. Ended up taking many photos just to get them to hurry up and move on. Took a bit of a search at GZ as the trees made the GPS bounce about but after 15 mins searching I found the right spot.

Cache was damp inside so could do with some maintenance. A fav from me. TFTC!

28-Aug-13
Well I found all other wpts with no problems but when I got to GZ I had two problems iPhone was all over the place and there were approaching from both directions every minute also which made searching from the cache very hard I decided after half an hour at GZ I would have to come back another day. I will bring the kids with me next time won't look so strange if they are of the boardwalk looking through the bush.

19-Aug-13
I have always wanted to do a geocache like this and what a great day to do one. Took us an hour and 15 mins with a quite unnecessary unhill climb after WP4. Managed to get back on track. When we got to the final GZ there were four muggles we had to wait for while they took photos. Like grand central station at this time of the day, met one guy four times. But managed to find it quite quickly with the use of the hint. Didn't use any of the other WP hints. A favourite from us. And thanks also to the lady in the information centre who told us all about the area. Took travel bug.

I have logged this cache as part of 12-12-12: A Challenge? http://coord.info/GC42CNY

Found during nice morning walk throught Redwoods forest. I was there to watch the start of the Tarawera Ultra marathon. My friend was running the 60 km race.
This type of cache is very nice. I enjoyed it. I do the orienteering back in Czech Republic. Nice spots. The forest is really great for orienteering, with man different types of woods. There is so many roads and small roads and paths. That it is easy to find the spots.

TFTC

26-Feb-13
This was an interesting way to explore a familiar trail. Fantastic idea to incorporate the orienteering waypoints. Thanks for an enjoyable hour.

22-Feb-13
Everything was exactly as described, even the final 'K'. There were wedding photos being shot on the boardwalk so discretion was necessary. Lotsa fun

03-Feb-13
Waypoint 3 was not quite as described. It was about 60 metres past the co-ordinates, the letter was I (not K) and it was a red plaque (not orange). The number on it however led to the final cache.
As a result we spent about an hour looking for this waypoint - we didn't think the red one was the correct one - only when we had given up did we decide to take the number on the red plaque on the off-chance that it might lead us to the final cache.
Fantastic area to spend a couple of hours. So many really tall trees in one area. Really enjoyed our time here!!!

17-Nov-12
Bye bye trackables!

13-Nov-12
Showing Chookfarmer from Gisborne the Geocaching ropes around Rotorua. mr S made himself look a prune, by putting in wrong coordinates and ending up bush bashing. Grabbed a TB. Nice walk. We do the Blue track often, but this put in a few more curves. Nice day out.

21-Oct-12
cool day dragging friends around geocaching from Hamilton.... it was great fun Oh and not always taking the track LOL little bit of bush bashing never hurt anyone.

14-Oct-12
Ha, this took longer than expected with Roxiest1 but we got there in the end Smile

13-Oct-12
What a mission! GPS was acting a little crazy to start with, what should have been about 40 mins turned into a couple of hours. Very happy to find cache in the end. Smile
