As there's been no cache to find for months, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. If you wish to repair/replace the cache sometime in the future, just contact us (by email), and assuming it meets the guidelines, we'll be happy to unarchive it.

I've been here twice for an hour each time but no luck what so ever. I feel as if it's not even there. Can somebody check to make sure it's in place?

18-Dec-10
Looked around and around and high and low but no luck today - unless the cache container was a beer bottle... Good day for CITO (had a bag + gloves with me today) but not for finding.

05-Dec-10
Wandered into the park Sunday morning wondering how we were going to get this one, given all the muggle activity ( it appeared every man and his dog/horse were in the park) but thankfully GZ was in a quiet location and a quick find/log was acheived. TFTC

I had a good look for this one, even used a torch for a deeper look but it eluded me. I ddin't want to spent too much time looking as it was probably only a matter of time before I poked my eye out on the barbs. Thanks HenryCP!

Not sure the last time I was in Centennial Park. I was on my way home from Bondi and took a short detour. All kinds of muggles out and about even muggle horses. Approaching GZ a small girl was taking photos and soon left and I made a dash for the cache. My first look revealed nothing and for some strange reason I felt "watched" so I reappeared to have a look over my shoulder and there out yonder near the pond was a man. Oh no... what must he be thinking and now he is coming this way. "tronador?" he says. "Yes", I replied sheepishly. At least I felt a little relieved cause at least he did not think I was a nutter. It was gd_. Now how that for caching karma, running into another geocacher in the wild. That doesn't happen to me that often, in fact I think I can count that on one hand.
We combined forces, and not before long gd_ found this well concealed cache. Nice work, at least i didn't have to scrounge around in the prickles any more.
We bid each other farewell and I continued on my way. I saw lots of ibises but no turtles. They must have all been asleep.

I was in Sydney to watch the Jets play Sydney FC and had just enough time to find a cache before heading to the ground. After searching around GZ for about 10 minutes I noticed a lady heading my way so I backed away from GZ in the opposite direction and circled around only to find they had disappeared into GZ. I stood and watched as she stood up from searching and saw me watching, seeing the GPS in her hand I walked over to say hello and as I got closer I thought I recognized the face and said hello. Tronador and I then resumed searching and I soon found the cache.

Tronador wa then heading off to do some more caching and I was off to the football. Nice to catch up with you again Tronador although we probably had more time to talk today than than at the two events we've met at before.

Thanks.

Hunt Time: GZ 10mins
Muggle Factor: 2 (Low)

Cache Status: Good Condition

Report: Second time (and in daylight!) lucky. Past through here again completing a Long Multi in the park (Busby's Bridges, I Highly Recommend it!) Took a bit more hunting but this time I got lucky. There is no need to tear things apart, just move the right frond and the naked cache in good order will appear. I did see a few Turtles! Most hid from me but the park Volunteers who were fishing for Carp nearby accidentally caught one so I got to watch as they released it again.

Yay! Found our first geocache ever! Lovely spot by the pond.

Sad No luck here; nearly got a really nasty stab in the eye- would recommend glasses and gloves- very painful! Strangely, youf on bike decided to go to sleep right next to GZ- was he being difficult? Don't know. Kind lady returned turtle to pond- it had been trying to cross the road- "Why do turtles cross the road?......." TFTC!

Operation: Zalgar's Geostreak Day 144

Cache Hunter: Zalgariath of Sydney
ICD^ Location Number: 151010#DNF2/2
Mission Status: FAILED
Hunt Time: GZ 10mins
Muggle Factor: 0 (Nil)

Report: Arriving at GZ after stumbling on Busby's Bridges I was still on the hunt for a cache to continue my Geostreak today. Unfortunately when I saw GZ I wasnt terribly hopeful as I was losing light fast, have only one arm and was in a rush. After some futile moving of the haystack around gently not wanting to cause any damage I gave up and will have to return when there is more light.

Thanks for a cache in a great location.

Found this cache with Buddha Belly and one of the Squints (Monocle). This was the first cache I discovered personally so pretty thrilling for me! Nice spot to spend a Sunday afternoon, thanks.

One third of 'The Squints' with guest appearances from Mazerati and Buddha Belly found this sucker on a sensational winter day in Centennial Park. Credit where it is due demands that I reveal it was a Mazerati find but all group efforts are valid Smile

I did this cache to complete the geocaching Australia cache "Truth or Dare" GA2284 - how lucky as I get 2 caches for the effort of one Big Grin

I've been saving this cache for a lunch time walk as it's the closest to work not yet found. So today was the day as I had almost no sleep last night and needed a cool brisk walk to keep me awake for the afternoon Surprised The gardens are lovely at the moment and all the ponds full of various aquatic birds so it was a very enjoyable walk. And just in case I wasn't quite awake enough yet, the cache camo spiked my hand as I reached for the container! Great spot for a cache, thanks for the enjoyment Smile

Mr H had taken the kids to the Imax in the city only to find the place fully booked out. Oh no! What are we going to do instead? Hmm? Might as well go caching for a couple of hours hehe! Not wanting to pay any more for parking we decided to head out of town and did a few caches around this area before picking Mrs H up from work.

Anyway, the kids were great about missing Toy Story 3D (kind of!) but got their revenge at this cache! Little Mr H found the cache straight away and kept it quiet for about 10 minutes whilst dad got more & more frustrated and got stabbed over and over again by the prickly plants fruitlessly searching for the absent cache! He's in trouble now lol!

A nice tranquil spot but didn't see any turtles today. Do they hibernate?

Thanks,

The Hancock Clan

A muggle friend was coming to Australia and brought a TB to this cache for me, but she didn't leave it.

After an hour or so of performing the worst rollerblading ever undertaken by mankind, I needed to achieve something today. Thankfully it was a cache Smile

Wrist guards plus elbow and knee pads were put to good use retrieving this one. Big Grin Pity that I missed ruffasgutts4x4.

For the record, two and a half hours later I still haven't figured out how to brake on rollerblades. I am, however, quite adept at falling over now.

Hmmm darn spikey things! I was warned to where gloves too but not wanting to leg the 400 metres back to the car and back I decided to risk it, copped some pickles in the butt for my trouble as well Surprised OUCHSurprised!!!
At least we found the cache! This could have been a long haul but fortunately a phone a friend helped our search some what.
Took the coin and a geopin will move them both on soon, Thanks for the cache Big GrinBig Grin

04-Apr-10
Along with a trillion others on this sunny autumn day we were in Centennial park. Actually this was the first time we've been here - it's a nice enough spot midst the city wastes, but oh so many people. Good to have a big slab of land not built upon so close to the city centre. Nearing GZ we certainly paid attention to the big bushy spiky thing. We figured - rightly - that due to the spiky nature of the concealment that there had to be a relatively painless entry point. Which there was thank goodness. Nice spot. Picked up the fire engine coin and dropped off the Travel Bird TB.

Sorry the cache was full of water and the log was too wet and stunk! So we disabled it. We will move it.

21-Feb-10
Spent about an hour expanding our search, but GPSr and a cross-check with Google Maps places it underwater after all the recent rain. Given the manky scum along the shoreline, I wasn't really keen on trusting my gadget. Ah well, will try again later.

After a longish walk in high humidity we arrived at GZ about an hour before sunset. A magic little corner of this park in the late afternoon. We sat on the bank of the pond and watched the ibises feeding and doing family things. Adolescent birds are very noisy as their mums vomited up dinner for them... yummy. Quite a community here but I remained sceptical about the turtles having never heard of them living here after so many years messing around in this great park. We had the cache in hand after only a few minutes searching. We then sat quietly to sign the log an wait for the turtles to show themselves. A couple of huge swans came in to look at us and then... one by one.. dark shapes started to appear in the shallows.... one after another.. more and more ... their little heads poking above the water as they watched us. I counted over 50 turtles! Indeed they seem to be doing well living here. Ms. K who works in the animal health industry made the comment that contrary to the cache notes. the TURTLES SHOULD NOT BE FED! Their dietary needs are very specific. They are carnivores and should NOT be fed bread ever! (They eat insect larvae, small fish, worms water snails.) If you really want to feed them, visit a pet store and ask their advice about specific fresh water turtle food. Also, the birds should not be fed either. Their habitat is obviously providing plenty of natural food for them , so , best to just enjoy their company. This is indeed a special family of turtles and it would be a shame if they were to suffer because of us cachers feeding them junkfood. Thanks for bringing us here HenryCP and keep the caches coming! (Maybe change the cache note to omit the 'feeding ' suggestion.) TNLN SL

10-Jan-10
A nice little stroll through a good little part of Centennial Park before we found the cache after a brief search.
Whilst doing the caching duties, Little Miss Us counted 10 Turtles here today, lots of Ibis on the nearby island and a few other birds of different sorts.
Thanks for a nice little cache. Hope it stays dry if the water level rises.
No swaps.
TFTC
Cheers.

As I approached the relevant pond, struck me that the water level was quite low, which threw me off the scent a bit for the hiding place. Had to wait for a bit while the park dudes in a tree-watering truck did their thing nearby. After about 15 mins searching went back to where I’d first thought the cache’d be and searched a bit more thoroughly. There it was. Hope it’s ok after a lot of rain.
[Know Centennial Park really well, but had never been down to this particular corner and didn’t know about the turtles. A flotilla of about 5 headed across towards the end of my visit (was on morning walk, so didn’t have food for them) – dark shadow of the body under the water and their ‘stickish’ little heads poking up. Do they ever keep on coming right up onto the bank? Was quite interesting mother and chick action going on with the ibises high up in the palms on the island as well. TNLNSL TFTC, HenryCP]

Gold!!!! Dr. Gold has done it again a FTF.

Just before noon the message arrived for a geocache just around the corner. I jumped on the bicycle to head for the cache. Nobody at groundzero maybe I'm lucky today. Cache was easy found and after opening the logbook it was nice and empty. Quickly logged the cache and heading home again to log the ticket.

Thanks,

Dr. Gold
