Work was canceled for the week so time to head up country for a couple of off the beaten track. Well I made this alot harder than it should have been approached this from further down the valley making a 1h cache into a well over 3h . Lost count how many times I has to cross the same side stream was battling a song head wind so decided to pull the pin on going further up the valley and headed back to the road the more direct route. Surprised the cache was still there given the wind and the fact it was exposed added extra weight when I left . At least I know which way to come next time

Found the geocache where I expected it to be. Walked across the open flats and up the valley past the lake to the Bivvy then back to the car by going downstream from the Bivvy making it a loop trip. Lovely hot day to explore beautiful country. Thanks for placing it - not many have been to it- more should make the effort - it is a lovely spot and an easy day walk.

Found on the way back from Snowy Gorge Hut.

My coordinates came to within about 5m of the cache, but because there were almost infinite hiding spots it took a while to find.

Take care, the actual location is slightly exposed to a drop over a cliff ;0)

When we found the cache it was in good condition.

Found on a day tramp with seven friends - all of us from the North Island and thoroughly enjoying the scenery of the Ahuriri Valley. We had to think carefully where to cross the Ahuriri River but managed it with linked crossings and it was only knee deep at the most. Hideaway hut was a great destination for lunch - such interesting history. Clambering up to get the cache was fun. No problems finding it and the views from here were excellent. A deserved favourite added, thanks iguana.

A great wee adventure... I decided (based partly on the mention of a 4WD track) to take the MTB to do this. And it also helped that I had the canoe at the bach. So, all loaded up, the bike tied to the canoe, a quick crossing, then off. The first problem was that the first 400-odd metres were swamp, which made pushing the bike very difficult. The next problem was the crunchy surface for most of the way, which made the cycling very difficult too. And as far as 4WD tracks go... I would concede that possibly a couple of sheep tracks ran parallel for a few metres - but that's as close as I ever got to finding a track. Next issue was demolishing the item in the hint, expecting that to be the hide! Luckily I did read the hint after I'd found the cache, as otherwise I wouldn't have bothered rebuilding it. Then, on the way back, the inevitable happened, and I got a couple of matagouri punctures. By the time they were fixed, it was dark, which slowed travel even more, and the 400m across the swamp was a huge effort - in the dark and exhausted. A great challenge, and well worth the effort. TNLN, Thanks.
