Nice one!!! My third time up the road to Grieg's Hut and the first time for me that the river was low enough to get my Suzuki across - we brought bikes along just in case but they were not required. This cache was the main objective for today. We left the car near the hut and headed off up the track. I'd scouted some way up this track a couple of years ago with Kiwi Explorer and today we seemed to find more trail out of the stream than previously. I think we must have taken to the water way too soon last time. Anyway it was heaps of fun navigating our way up and up until we finally got to the area where things opened up and the cache was close. What an awesome location, waterfall, mountains, amazing terrain. After admiring the scenery we zero'd in on the cache, investigating a few nooks and crannies along the way until the right one was found. Cache found safe and sound. It took us about 2 hours and 20 mins up and about 1 hour and 30 mins back down again after. Thanks for the challenge and TFTC, Biggles (&DLo).
All we can say is WOW! What an amazing place and we would of never of come here if it wasn't for the placement of this cache so thanks B&W!
We have had our eye on this very lonely cache for a long time and today we finally got the chance to visit GZ and have a look for this cache. Wow what a great place! This is an amazing spot and we definitely enjoyed the adventure getting there. We made a day trip out of this one and used the trusty 4x4 to get to Greigs hut without any issues, the river level was low and the track was in pretty good condition. We set off from the carpark at about 12pm and enjoyed the walk up the valley following the stream. It was a fantastic day so it was nice to cool our feet off and even a quick dip in the stream every so often. We followed the trail which was a little overgrown in parts up the valley but as the cache description states, if you follow the stream you’ll be fine, which we did .
Once reaching GZ, the search began. After identifying the hint object and a quick search of the likely hiding places had turned up nothing we started to fear the worst. But this was also understandable after all as the cache had not been found for close to 6 years. We began digging as we thought it may be buried, still nothing. We were using sticks to dig and as one of us went to find a new stick down the hill something rattled…. could it be…. FOUND IT!!! Rang from the valley with an even bigger smile to go with it. It must had been dislodged and made its way some distance from GZ, it was only with a bit of good luck that we managed to find it. The log was in surprisingly good condition and only a little damp. We quickly dried it out in the sun before signing and hiding it back in its spot nice and safely.
We had an excellent adventure and made it back down to the hut to cook some well-deserved sausages before heading home. It took us 5 hours return from Greigs including stops and finding the cache. The views are beautiful and we loved the walk. We will definitely be back to do the multi! Glad to finally give this cache some love and we really hope more people visit this cache because it’s a great spot!
TFTC and the adventure. Definitely gets a well-deserved favourite point from us

Surprised to find we were the first here! Fairly intrepid walk-in required, not completely convinced we could have kept our feet dry, but good fun and a fantastic spot!
Note to those going higher towards Scott's Knob and wondering how to get out of this huge steep-walled basin - you take the track up the right hand side (true left) of the main stream, along a fairly exposed ridge, then around to your right and up scree slopes to a notch in the ridge to the left of the main peak. Then sidle to the summit on the other side of the ridge. Allow 6 hrs to the top from Greig's Hut, perhaps 4 coming down. Be careful.
