Heading out to Bendora Arboretum for an event with Contesta and later probably with a group of other geocachers. We have a loose plan on finding caches after the event and eventually decided to come up here. There was a bit of huffing and puffing from my side, but I made it up in the end. TFTC
Caching around East Coast and a bit inland for a while. TFTC.Today was a big caching day. Unplanned as usual. I decided to attend an event over the Brindabellas and into Namadji Park.I left my caravan at EPIC and picked up my nephew, Boaham at 8:30 and we were off.First stop was Picadilly Circus with an Adventure Lab way point. I had to get that one ready at Uriarra Village while I still had reception and then constantly tap my phone all the way to Picadilly Circus to not let the app close and have the answer become enabled. It worked and I finally could upload the answer the next day. Also at PC I could finally finish the Wherigo that was started a month earlier. We also grabbed the close by cache which required a bit of mountain slope bush bashing.Arrived at the parking for the event to find one Cacher had camped there the night. The event was great with a nice small turn out. The birthday cake at the event was about all but a few muesli bars we ate for the day.The group then started the large multiple way point multi. There were people going all directions looking for overgrown tiny signs in the scrub. We managed to find them all with the help of those with the foresight to photograph the map. Checksums weren't working but we finally had an answer. Yay.After the event Boaham and I did all the caches from there to, and up Mount Franklin. An awesome collection of trads, multis and puzzles.Driving back past the event parking lot at dark and the camping cacher's car was still there. Planning for another very cold camping night in the mountains, I guess.Sure was tuckered by the end of the day.Back in Canberra we met up with my Son and his wife who are silent cachers for dinner and energetic challenge rooms. Phew, what a day. Finally sleep time.An awesome bit of history and a great walk.
Find # 12120Hi ho hi ho its off to cache we go Another day of adventures with like minded fun loving geocaching buddies. The main target today was GCANYMN Bendora Arboretum Event by Aquillis. With lots of extra caches to find a list was made, a collection of TOTTs was gathered, and off we went into the wild blue yonder. Travelling with isopeda. All caches located, retrieved, signed, and replaced. Thanks Tankengine for Franklin Forty and this nice little series
Out and about in Canberra with the view to collect Multies, challenges and suburban cache. Now on Mt FranklinCaching with and signing as the group 'Q3 + EA41CaminaCondigo + Buckoraider' and having a great day.TFTCache Tankengine
Trying to escape the heat SJG66 and I headed for the hills. Found as we wandered up to the top of Mt Franklin. TFTC.
Found it during a nice weekend in Namadgi NP. We walked up the Mt Franklin. We collected few caches on our way.At the top we found this amazing car. We loved the story about it. It was a quick find. Signed the logbook and put the cache back. Thanks to bring us there. +1 favourite point.
The jewel in the crown at the end of the hike up Mt Franklin!
Touched the trig as ya do, and continued along the trail until I came to this marvellously antique piece of motoring and skiing history.
Great spot for a cache Tankengine! Thanks for making me go beyond the top

Found this nice Cache together with Dino and Flintstones. Thank you for putting it out and maintaining it Tankengine.
A wonderful day trip with the family caching on Father's Day. Its that one of two days every year where you can twist thier arms to come out on a cache outing and then they all have a splendid time anyhow. I choose a hike a little further away, in this case at Mt Franklin and with some more time we went to Bendora Arboretum as well .
This was as far as we went on this first trail. A great discovery was awaiting us at the end with the old car and its history.
Quick find thanks to the hint, all in good order. I left a TB and will leave a FAVpoint for the great day we had going up here on the hike.
Thank you Tankengine for putting the cache out and maintaining it.

Found this one nicely nestled between the snow. This is the most remote cache I found so far, a really nice location with beautiful views. TFTC
Warm after climbing the small hill, but that is the coolest cache today. TFTC
We were looking for somewhere to go caching today, and seeing a new chache still unfound made me look a little closer, and it was in an area full of unfound caches...and it was in a county that neither of us have a FTF in....so early start was had, and with McMuffin in hand we set off for Mt Franklin.
Still a little ice on the ground when we got out of the car but the slope of the hill warmed us up. All info gathered easily, passing all the trads on the way up and some nice looking coords were had. OK, FTF out of the way we set about trying to at least start multi's, solve puzzles, admire earthcaches, grab trads and even a Wherigo.
A sidetrip down to Bendorra dam was made, on a road that was a little scary at times. Very impressive dam and nice little set of caches to find there too.
After that it was mostly park and grabs on the way back...saw GLISS! and nibletricecakes pass in the other directions after the briefest on-the-road chat.
All in all, a great day with some great variety. To all the CO's, thank you for placing.

Teamed up with AngelG27 and TikvaNZ for a Mt Franklin geomission The wander up to Mt Franklin from the carpark was easier than we expected and the views on this sparkling day were amazing! Nabbed a few others around the area on our way back which topped off a fun morning of caching!
I loved the wander up then the wander slightly down to this one. Love this old car wreck and the fun it provided in the snow all that time ago. Fave point for the car, the views and the enjoyable wander!
Thanks for the hide, Tankengine!

Cache 8121 on 9 Oct 2021.
Too nice a day to not get out for some caches, so joined up with TikvaNZ and SpecimenX to grab a few caches along Mount Franklin road. Had an easy walk up Mt Franklin which was gorgeous and then picked off a few other easy caches along the road. Definitely will have to come back for some of the harder to get to ones. A fun morning out enjoying the reserves all the more now we are allowed back into them!
I enjoyed all the signs along the way, and the sign at this cache particularly! What an innovative bunch that ski lodge group were! Quick find
Thanks Tankengine for the cache and the fun! Fav point comin at ya!

Our party of bushwalkers was bound for Ginini Falls, but this was done as part of the return trip... many hours later in the afternoon. We met a few folks from the Canberra Alpine Club were weeding the lower part of Mt Franklin. One mentioned the bonnet of the A40 occasionally got blown off, and was even used as a sled. That probably explained why it was dented in spots!
After being defeated by a locked gate at Bull's Head on my previous visit up here last month, it was lovely to have Mt Franklin Rd open and all to myself on a cool, and quite foggy, autumn weekday.
I do love the walk up Mt Franklin, and the historical signs (and, in fact, evidence of that history!) make it all the more interesting. Not much of a view today with all the fog/cloud, but a lovely bushwalk regardless.
This cache was found without issue in the obvious spot.
Thanks, Tankengine.

Amazing views today and an odd spot for an old car wreck. Thanks for taking us here. TFTC
Found with my mate Amr 'The Mountain Goat' while on our walk up Mt Franklin - a first-time for both of us. Arrived at the trig, did the obligatory pull-up and admired the views before wandering down to this cache. Awesome little hide and a seriously spectacular piece of history. How special would it be to come up here during a Canberra winter and enjoy a few days hitting the slopes in the Brindabellas! Thanks for taking us here Tankengine.
Absolutely love finding old rusty cars in the bush, but this one is extra special! It was put here for a purpose and not just dumped / left behind! I was also intrigued to see the old wheel nearby which would have been part of the pulley system, and the posts heading down the hill. A truly unique location, can't believe I have never been here before but enjoyed it very much! All the information signs were interesting too!

Beautiful day to be out and about. Awesome views from up here. Glad we made the effort.
Found 13:44 5/7/20. A beautiful day for a walk with a good amount of snow about. I don’t think this car will be going anywhere soon. Quite a few out walking up Mt. Franklin today. Thank you Tankengine for the cache and bringing me to this location.
It have never seen it so busy down in the carpark as it was today. Some were even parking out on the road.
I've been wanting to come up here for some time now to see this old car. My parents used to own one of these old Austin A40's and I can still remember being driven around in it as a young teenager. It certainly brought back some memories.
Views from up here are spectacular too.

A freezing day on the mountain today!! Lucky we planned ahead and were well prepared for the weather - the wind was bitter. However, a beautiful walk in the snow, plenty of snowballs thrown, many toboggan rides down the hill and a brilliant day was had by all. TFTC
Noikmaster had orgainised a tour through the Brindabellas to take in the magnificent views afforded there and had kindly asked us along. We joined forces this morning with the tour leader, pprass,Nurse Hayley, maccamob, nanna nell,wozza9, Mr Coffee and The Drovers and took off in a small convoy.
We stoppe3d at the previous cache to catch our breath and then headed off towards this one as we really wanted to see the old 'A40" after reading all about it back at the lodge.
We stopped part way up and headed across to the cliff edge to take a few happy snaps of the spectacular views there before heading up onto the trig and then the Austin.
Once we were there we had a bit of a laugh at the "ski slope" and thought ,yep, that would be a terrain five run.
Thanks once more tankengine for a really interesting cache in a fabulous location, another favorite point from us.

In the company of Maccamob, Team Crackers Pprass, Nurse Hayley, Wazza9, Nana Nel, and The Drovers we set off for the caches in the hills.
We had a great day driving through the mountains and climbing a few hills in both the Kia and on foot.
The views from the top were amazing and my legs were reminding me that we walked upwards. Truly worth the trip and the visit.
Our thanks to Tankengine for the cache,

Went out for the day with Pprass, Nurse Hayley, Crackers, The Drovers, Macamob, Wazza9 and The Coffees, led by Jermery. Great day had by all searching for the caches. Signed log and replaced. Thanks to CO.
Found at 12:55 PM in the company of maccamob, NurseHayley, Mr.Coffee, wazza9, Nana Nel, Team Crackers and The Drovers,.
We had some relief getting to the last bit as it was not as steep. Got to the rusted out car after admiring the fantastic views and found the cache slightly exposed.
This was one of the highlights of the day.
Thanks Tankengine

Found by Mary and David, in company with pprass, NurseHayley, Mr.Coffee, wazza9, Nana Nel, Team Crackers and The Drovers, at 13:00:00. The final stretch to the summit proved easier than the previous section, and we were all rewarded with some amazing views. Also interesting was the sight of poles and wheels, and even a rusty old car body, that had all once formed part of a couple of rope tow installations when skiing was active on the mountain. Our thanks to Tankengine.
Thanks for the cache! Made a quick find while out walking the Mt Franklin track.
What was a hot muggy Canberra day was a beautiful cool/warm overcast/sunny day in the Brindabella's. What a perfect day to walk in the mountains picking up this cache and all others nearby. The flowers are currently glorious so we can imagine just how superb it must have been during this past Spring. Walked no more than 5km this afternoon over a couple of hours enjoying a little rain followed by sunshine.
Loved this general location for many reason. The wild flowers, the wind swept shrubs, the beautifully coloured rocks and the grood views that continue to show the impact of the 2003 fires.
Have now seen this car on three seperate occasions but on this occassion we found an old Moterolla radio just up the hill from here not in the best condition. The views are lovely in their own way particularly with the wildflowers visible into the distance. TFTC Tankengine.

Day 12 of my MEGA road trip up to Oz Geomuster 2018 and back again saw me starting my day in the ACT and finishing it camping on the NSW side of the Murray river. A fantastic day with beautiful weather yet again and some nice hikes thrown in for good measure.
Nice to hit the summit and see that wonderful trig. The old Austin also very cool. Dropped a Favourite point on this one.

Caching mount Franklin on the long Canberra weekend. My main aim is ginini falls but this one and a few others along the way. How the heck did this car get here? It certainly ain't coming back down. Tftc.
Out exploring the 4WD and hiking trails today. This trail was on my to do list so after beating a 4WD trail that last time claimed my rear light it was off to this trail.
Awesome hike up to the summit and once at GZ started the search.
Snake haven is all I can say... found the cache soon enough and had it back in its hide after signing the log.

Got to the top of Mt Franklin. Enough snow for a snowball fight next to the car/ski tow. Must have been an interesting story to get the car up this far . TFTC Tankengine and an excuse to get to the top of the mountain.
Another one done. Woo Hoo! I love the challenge of the geocache hunt - read the notes, decipher the cache requirements, and go searching for the hide. This is an amazing world-wide game of hide and seek. I love it! I also enjoy caching with my family, and meeting fellow cachers. It really is a small world when I read over cache logs. **Thanks go to Tankengine** for placing this cache and maintaining it. It's a great contribution to the Geocaching community and much appreciated.
We were out on a 4x4/hiking/geocaching day. There was a lot of snow after the past week of cold weather and we had a great day in perfect sunshine. I'm not ashamed to say I needed the hint because there was SO MUCH SNOW - up to knee deep.
I enjoyed finding this one at 2:09:34 PM. Dropped 'Golf and Travel' TB after an 8 month tour of Australia. TFTC! Cheers. *Jump Pilot*

Top spot! Up earlyish to be able to enjoy the summit of Mt Franklin to ourselves. Poked about in the snow, explored and enjoyed the sunshine. Made a brekky of bacon and eggs back at the shelter, with quite a few more CBR arrivals in their 4WD's with the kiddies in tow, to enjoy the white stuff. TFTC a Favourite from me
Out caching around Mount Franklin this weekend and we decided to drop in and head up to the top and grab this one on the way. After hunting around we spotted a tell tale sign and soon had the cache in hand.

At last.
This one has been one of those that has been on my to-do list from the very early years of my caching for many many different reasons.
It is nice to finally knock this one off my list and have some nice pictures of me at GZ for my FB profile.
Thankyou Tankengine for a lovely place to visit and a FAV point from me for this one!

The fifth find of the day. On our way back from Ginini Falls, Fox in Jox and I headed down to grab this cache quickly while the others chilled at the summit. Once at GZ, the view and location was admired and the cache was uncovered fairly quickly. Log signed and cache replaced. TFTC Tankengine!
A 'successful' 8hr bushwalking trip from Mt Franklin carpark to Ginini Falls with Cankid, TikvaNZ, ZQX, JohnnyBoyACT and Marmaduke Rothschild. This cache was found on our return from the Falls. Cankid and descended to the car. I made a quick spot and sign. Would have loved to see this tow system in action. TFTC TE
Although down in dumps from failed Ginini Falls attempt with Nickoff2, decided to stop for this very interesting GC. Great spot /history. SL Lenng
I always thought this ski run was what you could see going over Hindmarsh drive towards woden as a strip of snow when there was a dump on the brindabellas, but I think it's the adfa ski run further along Tftc!
I also wouldn't mind knowing where that track goes as it looked like it continued along from the trig if anyone knows let me know!
Found 27th March with Kittykatch and the other yowie crew after a geo event at the Cotter. Lovely day, great walk fantastic view and that amazing old car. TFTC
We didn't have much luck chasing down any Yowies this afternoon, though some strange noises were definitely heard...anyway we continued up to finally conquer Mt Franklin and check out another Tankengine cache. The views were indeed spectacular in the late afternoon sun especially with all the smoke haze about. We loved getting to the Trig and reading all the history of the area on the way up. What a cool bit of history at GZ , we tried to imagine what the landscape would look like covered in snow.
So after pulling ourselves away from the view we got down to business and quickly had the cache in hand.
Thanks for bringing us up here Tankengine, not sure why it took us so long to do so!

Found with the Yowie Team today after attending the Cotter Meet n Greet event. Great to have the CO with us to tell us more about the cache and the area. Wonderful views from the top of the mountain, and it wasn't too hard a climb. Beaut cache - loved the old car. Gets a FP from me - thanks again TE !

A Tankengine special cache! Great trek up the mountain to get here, then a little history of the cache hiding spot - darn stupid robbers if you ask me. Of the group I was given the privilege of finding the cache, as I claimed to be the eldest member of the rather large group. [:o)]

Drove in from Captains Flat this morning (passed some cachers doing the CFT) and had decided to just attend the Event as I had spent yesterday afternoon grubbing out regrowth. Once there however, the idea of a Yowie hunt was just too appealing, so thanks to the Farmers 5 for organising the hunt and big thanks to Tankengine for driving us up to Mt Franklin.
I am really glad I joined the Yowie Hunt Team as I doubt I would have come up here by myself. I had never been here before and thoroughly enjoyed the walk, the finds, the great weather and most importantly the wonderful company!
RoddyC was given the pleasure, or was that the job? of finding this cache as he was the elder of the group. CO was there also and Farmers 5 knew where it was but mum was the word! Entertainment (in the form of planking) was provided for us while we were waiting for the inevitable "Found it!" Well done RoddyC ! glad of the hint as I hate the caches hidden on car bodies, tanks and guns!!
The views and the history lessons were well worth the walk, which was nowhere near as bad as I thought it might be.
Many thanks to all the team! SL as Team Yowie

#1115. 118 days in a row.
I headed out to Cotter to attend the event. It was great to see so many familiar faces and meet new people. I had plenty of chats with people about all sorts of caching-related topics.
After the event, I went out on the Yowie hunt sub-event. We got four caches on that sub-event and most of us continued on to another one before heading back.
This was the fourth of the four, with a quick discovery being made by Rod from RoddyC.
One has to wonder how they got the car up here...

What a great walk this is . Our 3 enjoyed the trail and final GZ location as well .
Located the exact Yowie sighting spot as per co ords from Tim the Yowieman through the week.
Got some top photos and the strong wind blowing kept it pleasant for summer conditions .
Found at 12.30 as an unusual visitor on 2 legs joined us at the trig .
Fav tick from us for sure .

We definitely enjoyed the views on the way up to this one. Read the sign boards along the way and enjoyed the history lesson. A stunning spot on a glorious day. We snapped a photo at the trig before heading down to GZ. Thanks Tankengine
A Canberra Bushwalking Club trip, thankfully joined by cachers Marmaduke Rothschild, ChifleyGrrrl, TikvaNZ, ZQX and MJW1 (and 6 muggles). I rode on their coat tails, usually arriving at the cache in time to check that someone had logged my name. I am an unprincipled cacher. Trip report at http://www.johnevans.id.au/wp/16-january-2016-blatant-brindabella-geocaching/ . TFTC.
Loved the story behind this one. As I approached GZ I was wondering what the cache name meant and what the hint meant. At GZ it all became clear, of course!
The Franklin 40 had seen better days, but the cache was in good condition. Six of us found it.
TikvaNZ and I had a little discussion about coming this way again some time to find Ginini Falls. That would be epic.
Thx TE!

Mt Franklin is a wonderful place, with its fascinating history and views that I find quite other worldly. I was pleased to have the chance to come here today as part of a geocaching/bushwalking outing organised by JohnnyBoyACT through the Canberra Bushwalking Club. It's funny knowing that I have been here a couple of times previously, before I got into geocaching, and have studied the A40 in fine detail, taking photos of it. I never suspected there may have been a "geocache" there and certainly never noticed anything along those lines.
I provided the tail watch for the walking group for this bit, so the cache had been found, logged and returned by the time I arrived at GZ. I found it again, just so I could feel I could legitimately claim it as a find. TFTC

A week or so ago, I spotted a Canberra Bushwalking Club 'Blatant Brindabella Geocaching' walk for today lead by JohnnyBoyACCT, to find the caches along the western NSW-ACT border off Mt Franlin Road, so I immediately signed up and let ZQX know. I left home at 6am, and got back home at 6pm after finding 11 caches on the walk plus one other. The weather was perfect to be out in the hills. There were 6 cachers and 6 muggles in the 3 car group.
This was the second 'big' walk of the day (as opposed to near the road finds). ZQX was retrieving the cache as I arrived. Another historical spot with great views here and on the way here. Lots of lovely wildflowers around. TFTC.

Found on a Canberra Bushwalking Club trip led by JohnnyBoyACT. 6 cachers and 6 muggles. Aim was to find a number of caches along the western border of the ACT. Looked at the explanatory photo next to the vehicle and recognised Karl who I used to work with at the Government Priting Office. TFTC.
This was one of the highlight caches of the day. A nearly-complete wreck (which Mr O defines as 'treasure') against a magnificent mountainous backdrop, and a story to go with it. Definitely a fave for this one. TFTC Tankengine.
I've been to the trig before many years ago, but not to the car (maybe the track wasn't there then). Surprised that it isn't in worse condition - I suppose being exposed helps.
Cache found OK.
Thanks

As mentioned before I LOVE the history of this place, and 'Necessity Being the Mother of Invention!!!' This is brilliant! Thanks again for the walk. A few puffs on the way up, but worth it, especially with a Wedge tail eagle circling overhead!
Tanks for the memories Tankengine! Love ur caches. Gr8 spot 4 lunch too! XXEloise @ the Plaza
Watch the storm roll in from the South but made it back down in time (just) - TFTC
Track to top steep in a couple of places, but excellent views, and an interesting location for the cache.
Big walk with the little bents and others to find this cache. Awesome spot and views. TFTC
Next stop on our expedition, with BatgirlandCo and Noikmeister.
Beautiful views up here, as the fog was starting to clear. And another interesting piece of local history. This poor old Austin had definitely seen better days!

A quick jaunt to the top of the hill to get warmed up for a day out with Doppelfrog and Noikmeister. This made an interesting stop and I pondered if this as possibly my Dad's old Austin being the manic skier that he was in the 1960's. Turns out my Dad was actually involved in setting up this ski run and doing some work on the chalet! Apparently it's useful to have a sparky in the ski club. Thankfully there was no snow in the area today as the penchant for the white-stuff seems to have skipped a generation and this Bat most certainly cannot ski.
What a climb it was to this cache - but what a reward. Stunning views and perfect weather. After a quick scout around Noikmeister located the cache and logging duties were done.
After a few minutes of taking in the scenery, we made our way back to Franklin - The Old and the New, collected our bikes and continued on our way.
Tanks for the cache TE, without it I would not have climbed this hill.

Third cache of the day for me, on what was supposed to be a special ride to Mt. Gingera culminating in my 2,000th find. Unfortunately the distance and the short hikes ate up too much time to make it past Mt. Ginini.
I am always amazed as to where you can get a vehicle if you have no intention of bringing it back. Fantastic views up here and if the road were open it would be a very easy spot to get to. Cache was snug and safe under the fender.
Thanks TE.

What a hike! But what a view! Ginini Cascades in fine form today after the recent rain. Thanks for dragging me up here!
What a awesome stroll up through the alpine country.
As a avid skier, I found this all fascinating.
Southerly facing runs for Slalom and Gully run. Can't quite make out Link run any more.
Morning run being the first one to soften up first thing and the Wood Run would have been a good decent slog back to the chalet.
I can see why they picked Mt Franklin, all slopped away from the northerly aspect. Very similar to Guthega actually.
As for the cache and that bit of history. Just awesome. Great to see these folk do anything to make it easier so they can have a slide.
I'll never take for granted the next Doppelmayr detachable lift I ride
TFTF!!

Thankfully beautiful weather, allowing a relaxing walk up from the new Mt Franklin shelter. Found this with a group of scout families (total number 33 - parents, joeys, cubs and scouts from Watson). Nailed this cracking cache with a couple of kids "helping". This cache brings back memories of growing up in my mum's A40 and really enjoyed the alpine conversion, tracing how it all worked - you gotta love the ingenuity. TFTC and the opportunity to introduce other families to the hunt.
Great spot. Third time on Mt. Franklin, but never discovered this interesting piece of history. Lift did not operate today , but still had a good run on a toboggan down the slope. Snow was very hard and fast, ended up with lots of scratches both from snow and bushes. Lots of fun anyway. Thanks for a great cache.
